NIC Not So Nice

Mar 16, 2009

I installed Ubuntu 8.1 as a second os on my xp system. Asus p4pe Socket 478 Pentium 4 which is my motherboard has build in Realtek rtc 8137 family pci fast ethernet nic.If I boot into the Ubuntu os I have internet which is Comcast cable. If I reboot into xp I do not have internet connection. While in xp if I go to device manager it shows the nic card working. When the nic device is working there is a small green light that is on at the back of the computer where the RJ-45 plugs in. This light is on when I'm booted into Ubuntu but it is out when I boot into xp.I have voice over internet phone service which is working fine and I'm typing this on my wifes computer which is working fine on the internet connection.

I've tried uninstalling Ubuntu but this did not fix the problem. I used my back up system to reinstall my c drive but the problem has not gone away. I've now reformatted my c drive and did a new intall of xp but this did not correct the problem.Ubuntu forum, Asus forum have not been able to help.

Easy CD Creator 6 And ITunes Not Playing Nice

Apr 10, 2006

I've been having a small problem with Roxio's Easy CD Creater 6. I installed the program on my computer an I was able to burn Cds and DVDs ok. Then I installed iTunes to connect to my iPod. I then tried to use Roxio and it could not find my DVD RW drive!! I then uninstalled Roxio and then installed it again. I could then find the DVD RW drive but iTunes said it could not initiallize the drivers to burn CDs. How do I setup my computer so I can use multiple CD/DVD buring software packages?

Home And Pro Not Playing Nice Together Via Home Wifi?

Jul 2, 2009

I'm trying to share folders between two laptops set up on a home wifi workgroup. Currently, both laptops are "seeing" each other's share folders (as mapped network drives), and both laptops have full internet access I have allowed simple file sharing on the XP Pro system. I have also set the firewalls to allow access, and I'm using AVG firewall instead of Windows firewall. However, only one of the computers is allowing access to the other. The XP Pro computer can access the share folders on the XP Home computer, but not vice versa. When using the XP Home computer, I can map the shared folders on the XP Pro computer, but when I try to access them, I get denied access.
