This is more of a fun tweak than it is useful.Go to run, type regedit press ok.when that comes up go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Control Panel>DesktopNow find the orginalwallpaper, right click and select modify. In the text box type the path to the file you want to be your orginal desktop wallpaper.
When I click on desktop and select properties to change the desktop wallpaper I have a list of family photographs!I still have the desktop wallpaper folder in windows web folder but how do I put it back into the desktop and remove the ones that are mysteriously there.
I am unable to change desktop wallpaper going through properties then desktop. I right click on desktop, select properties, click on desktop tab i then go to try and browse wallpapers but am unable as the box and scroll are frozen. I also have a problem when i type into run. "regedit" as soon as the registry opens it closes again so i am unable to edit the registry or look through it? This picture is of what my desktop wallpapers looks like..
I had a desktop highjacker earlier this year, that is originally what actually brought me to TSG forums. I stopped the hijacking but until just now I did not notice I can't change my wallpaper in display properties and all that I can access is the color backgrounds. I try to click on "background" "browse" and "posistion" and can't,The text are gray not black? I also can't scroll through the wallpaper selections! What can I do to change this so that these properties are accessable and adjust able again?
I've been having this problem which started a few days ago with my desktop. I will try to be as specific as I can with regards to the screwed up situation I'm in.I'm running on Windows XP with service pack 2 installed, anti-virus program I use is Norton corp. edition and I also have AdAware 7. I've dutifully updated all my virus definitions and all that. But I can no longer change my wallpaper and it's only a plain blue screen. Funny thing is, when I go into display and select the pic I want to use, it actually shows up in the display area, but nothing happens when I click the apply button, and the background remains plain blue. However, if I click on the default windows XP theme, it changes to that theme, and if I then click back on the photo I want to use, it shows up!!! But a few minutes later, the screen flickers and all is back to plain blue screen again. But when I turn the computer off, a brief flicker of the picture I want to use flashes before shutting down, just what exactly is happening to my machine?
Nothing like this has ever happened to me before!! Also, it seems as if some settings that I've tried to change (for ex, selecting windows media player as the default player for all types of media files) do not stay that way for long. What I mean is, the changes take place right after I've selected them, but a few minutes later, they change back to the way they were which is really frustrating, not to mention creepy as hell as well.I've practically looked thru all that the web has to offer on this issue and has now officially become desperate and despondent. however, after running regedit and following the paths, I can't find the chunk after "Policies" and all I have after that path is an "explorer" folder, no mentioning of wallpaper strings whatsoever.I've also ran norton many times and have the latest updates and etc, I've also ran ad aware and nothing suspicious have to found which might indicate the culprit behind my problem, just a few cookies and trackers.therefore,
i have a dilemma with changing my wallpaper.I click on display properties->desktop tab->no response, just freezes.i click on the red cross to get out and comes up with message saying can't run rundll32.exe as app. I've tried looking for solutions but no one seems to know.I can set wallpaper by clicking on a photo then 'set as wallpaper' but i can't center them as the option is in the display properties desktop tab.
I was about to change the wallpaper on my desktop and noticed that there were dozens of photos that have appeared in the select list that I never selected before. These are spread over many folders, so I thought I would do a browse from the menu, to find out where they were as I have used search to find them unsuccessfully
I run a Dell XPS M140. I'm ready to pull my hair out. Three days ago I was infected with the "AV Security Suites" virus. I immediately shut down my computer, restarted in Safe Mode With Networking, and ran every single thing I had. I ran Avast, Spybot, Ad-aware, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, Registry Mechanic, Advanced System Care, and Glary Utilities. I thought I got it. I restarted my computer in normal mode and all seemed well until I noticed I cannot change my desktop theme or wallpaper. When I change the theme to "Windows Classic", it works, but when I restart my computer it's right back to the XP theme (green start button/blue taskbars)
I want to know if there is possible to put a specific text over the desktop and when the user change the wallpaper the text continues appearing at the same position (basically I want to do it on Windows XP).People says that an image worth more than thousands of words... Ok this is a screenshot of what I want to do
The last thing I want ANYONE to see is My Pictures. Why is this damn thing offering THAT place as first choice for dektop wallpapers? I pointed it (browsed to) Windows/Web/Wallpapers but it STILL insists on my pictures included there! And there is no obvious, clear cut way to change it, I have to google all over the place to find the damn answer! Pure wasted time. to remove that place and prevent it from ever showing up as a first choice for wallpapers?
I am wondering if it is possible to find the location of where your wallpaper pic is temporarily stored while it is your current wallpaper. The reason I ask is because I thought I saved the pic before I made it my wallpaper, but I cannot locate the file. Also, is there a way to find out the name of the file? Then I could do a search, but as it is, Desktop properties just labels it "Internet explorer wallpaper
I have a 27" Dell Monitor with a Radeon X850XT card. Never had a problem with it and this new problem has just come out of no where. All background wallpapers leave a big gap down the left hand side of my screen. The pic's are big enought o fit the screen resolution and if I choose a smaller pic and 'center' it in display properties it does not center..I have just updated drivers and no change.Have WINXP ser pack 2
Turned on other computer this morning. The desktop wallpaper showed. There were no icons or taskbar. I right click on the desktop and nothing happens. I can do a ctrl+alt+del and access the task manager but have no idea on how to restore my desktop. When I startup in safe mode all I get is a black screen.
after an attack with some bad viruses or something,i noticed my option to change my wallpaper has disappeared? and im so sick of the wallpaper i have right now..
My desktop suddenly went the default XP blue and when i right clikc and go into the properties, the desktop tab is all disabled meaning i cant change it. I am running XP SP2. Before this happened i did find some malicious software on my pc that random installed itself from a website. I think this could have lead to it. Any ideas of how i could fix this? Attacked i have my hjt log file. Any help will be great. Also if anything else has come up from the log?
I had a few adwares on my O.S. (win XP HE), but I managed to remove them all except for one little trace. I've tried many removal tools, but none seems to be helping with this last problem that is anoing me.I can't change my wallpaper. What actually happens is that when I try to scroll down the "Background" scrollbox at the "Display Properties". "Desktop" window.I believe it has something to do with policies, but windows xp Home Edition is very limited in what comes to policies and it has no editor. By regedit I couldn't find any policy key that would actually make me believe it was it. I already tried to google this issue, but I can't find anything concrete. The closest clue I have is that this was caused by a spyware installed to advertise a spyware software, which installed itself and changed my desktop wallpaper to a black image that said that I was infected with malware and I needed a spyware software to resolve the problem. The image also said something claiming it was from Microsoft and they suggested a product.
This is a friends computer she has asked me to work on so I don't know how or when it happened. When you try to change the desktop (wallpaper) the different ones are still listed but you can not highlight them to switch from one to another. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm using XP Home Edition, with all updates installed. For some reason, I can't change the background wallpaper on my screen. I right-click on the desktop, select Properties, then select the Desktop tab. There is only one wallpaper listed in the Background list, as well as the (None) option, which works. Unfortunately, I can only switch between (None) and my current wallpaper. Browse works, in that I can search my computer for other images. But when I select any of those images nothing happens. The current wallpaper remains in the preview screen, and the wallpaper I selected through browsing doesn't show up in the Background list. (I can Center, Stretch and Tile my current wallpaper.)
is there a way to completely block users from changing the wallpaper.the computer only has one account that everyone uses. i removed the "Desktop" tab from the display window in control panel but this still leaves other ways to change it.ex: right clicking a pic in IE and "setting it as background" or using paint.
I just logged into this forum...I was working on saving a template that I could use to start a website...but, by mistake when I went to save the image, it saved the image as my wallpaper on the desktop. My question is how do I restore the desktop to the factory Microsoft wallpaper?
Having problems with changing the wallpaper display under one screen name in Windows XP. All others are fine, I just went through a major clean up over in the security forum.
I got a virus. i took care of the problem but my desktop is just white. i still see the icons but the wallpaper is white. if i right click and go to properties i can change the base color but not the wallpaper design. if i go on the internet and set a picture as background it does nothing, but if i log off it will show.

Even though I'm logged in as adminon my PC (Windows 2000), I can't change anything andhave no access to the controll panel. I need to change the date and time on my PC, it's stuck on December 2002. I also can't change or delete any wallpaper, no access. I've had this problem for a while, postet it here and didn't get help, haven't been able to solve it, yesterday my PC finally blue screened with a STOP error. I booted from CD and re-installed Windows 2000, so I could at least gain access, but I need help with these issues,
1. Click Start > click Run > type regedit > and click OK.2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_USERSDEFAULTControl PanelColors 3. In the details pane (right-side), double-click the Background string value item. 4. Change the value to a 3 number RGB value, and then click OK . You have now changed the logon background color.NOTE: I went looking for this registry key after using the "Change the Logon BackGround" tweak, and that bright XP blue color kept showing before the OS had a chance to load my dark wallpaper. This way if you choose a color close to the wallpaper shown, the load of the wallpaper is less noticeable.
If I set my desktop wallpaper to a .jpg file then my profile will not retain the wallpaper the next time I log in. However, if I set my wallpaper to something like, FeatherTexture.bmp, or I believed any .bmp files then my profile will retain the wallpaper. So assuming this is true,
I was wondering if there is a way to point the Background page (Right click>Properties>Desktop) to another folder? The folder it is currently showing has pictures in it that I don't want set as a background, but there is another folder I have which I do want to be used. Edit:: I'm guessing there is just some .ini file somewhere that I need to alter, but I don't know where to start looking.

I have a HP Pavilion A1624N computer, running Windows Media Center 2005. AMD 64 x 2 Processor 2.0 GHz, 1 Gig of RAM. All of a sudden yesterday morning when I right clicked on my desktop and un-checked Show Desktop Icons (to take a print screen for my friend) the problem started. This worked fine, I did the print screen and saved it in paint no problem. But when I right clicked again and then chose Show Desktop Icons, they came back, but my wallpaper disappeared. I tried several ways to get it back
