Setup Installation :: 87% Free Space But List Disk Shows No Free Space Available?
Mar 14, 2013I installed Windows 8 Pro on a GPT partition. I have 234GB of SSD with 87% free space according to Disk Management. I am trying to create a 4GB primary partition for Intel Rapid Start but the Disk Part shows i have no space available in that drive and would not let me create the partition. Why would that be?

May 31, 2013I recently migrated to Windows 8. My music collection stumbled along the way and I had to re-fetch artwork for a few albums in WMP. I also set it up in iTunes. My default app for MP3s is WMP. As you can see below, artwork only appears when in the folder view (which somewhat defeats the purpose of libraries in the first place). I'd prefer to sort them by artist, with album art displayed without a folder, as it should and as it did in Windows 7.
Art appears in folder view but not artist or album view.
On a related note, I recently added many new MP3s to my collection. When I opened Xbox Music for the first time afterwards, it seemed to be downloading art to add it to my older albums, all of which have art. Then the process was somehow interrupted. I believe I closed the app. Then, when I opened it again, none of them had art.
Music App Lists Music Files Not Present In SSD
Sep 15, 2014I had recently replaced my HDD with SSD, So I had backed up & erased all the personal files including music, videos etc from respective folders, Actually there is no files other than system files, programs, softwares in the SSD now, I had done disk cleanup, defrag , clearing of temp, prefetch folders etc before starting the cloning everything from HDD to SSD,
After replacement, now I could see all my collection of songs/music in the Now Playing section of Music App (Modern app), No music files are actually present for me to locate in any of the folders when I go through for explorer,
I'm not able to play the music files by clicking it from Music App , & when I delete it from there by right clicking it - temporarily goes away but returns when i close the App and opens it again..
I had unchecked & checked the indexing option in the Music folder (File Explorer) - properties & restarted system, checked, But still all the music files are listed in the App, how to clear the music file listings from the Music app permanently which are not really present in the system?

Sep 15, 2014I have two Windows 8.1 boxes. The first is connected to the ethernet to the router, from the router then to my Denon amp. I can successfully see the Amp in Media Devices and even use AirFoil to stream from other applications to the amp.
But, I have a second box on Wifi (no ethernet) which is on the same homegroup but cannot see any amp listed in media devices.
Is there some thing I am missing here? Config between network adapters or something? It picked up the amplifier previously but it has now dissapeared and even AirFoil is not picking up the amp!
EZCast Media Streaming With Windows 8?
Feb 8, 2014tried to get the EZCast dongle to work ok on a Windows 8 pc. I have looked at several YouTube videos re EZCast & looked at several websites. The only thing I can get to work properly on my TV is some items on my desktop. When you attain the mirror on the TV the resolution changes, (lowers), which means when you try to open any other app an error message reads: This app cannot open. The screen resolution is too low for this app to run. You cannot put the resolution back up to its normal lever, because it automatically lowers again. Also I cannot figure how to have the dongle Wi-Fi & the web Wi-Fi to both be on, so you can mirror websites as they claim.

Mar 3, 2013I use wmp12 to share and stream all my movies to an android box up stairs using upnp, connected with rj45, works great, have prevent idel to sleep set in power options for media this also works great, but when im finished streaming, wmpntwk.exe continues to run and prevents sleep, there was a fix in win 7 to change the power flags for wmpntwk.exe but have found nothing for windows 8, have been using sleepless it works well and will put pc to sleep when it dosnt detect a pre set upload speed, so when I stop streaming after 30 min pc will sleep, but this program wont allow monitor to sleep so im worried about screen burn, why is something that should be simple so difficult stop streaming turn off wmpntwk.exe

Jul 8, 2014I have brand new MSI GT60 laptop with GTX870M ,i7-4800MQ CPU and 8gb ram.
There is a random 2-3 second freeze every few minutes while i am streaming videos(any site CNN.com - Breaking News, U.S., World, Weather, Entertainment & Video News, youtube, etc). they don't play smoothly at all , they play so laggy. during this freeze audio does not loop or freeze, it continues normally.
i have tried the following
1. i have updated all the drivers video, network, sound.
2. Tried a different browser (both Firefox and Chrome).
3. Used the killer cleaner and installed the pure drivers.
4. Tried the killer package from MSI support page, recovery disc and the version from Qualcomm site.
5. Gave up and installed a brand new windows 8.1 as a secondary boot, same issue.
6. tried disconnecting all USB devices and everything , still freezes.
This particular issue could not be a temp thing, since it starts right from the moment i switch on the laptop. Also i don't notice any lags when i am playing games or playing videos using some video player(BS player/VLN)
Its not an internet issue as well, videos would have completely buffered already but would still freeze. Looks like a flash player issue, i have tried 3 versions of flash player (11,13,14 ) all have this issue, i just cant solve this.

Audio :: Any Way To Make Volume Louder When Streaming Netflix?
Aug 12, 2013When using my computer and streaming netflix, i generally use my HD tv as my video card has audio built in over HDMI and i use it to stream movies to my HD tv ,with netflix app for windows 8. but on some movies the volume is totally Low and i have to crank my tv to here the voice leaving me with very loud music when it comes on. is there a solution to fixing this? i make my TV volume default when i watch netflix. How to make it louder. I have seen this thing called loudness equalization under enhancements on the HDMI audio would that do it or would it make more noise then do any good?.

Maintenance :: Delay When Scrolling And Choppy Streaming Of Videos?
Apr 8, 2014Just acquired my first win 8 laptop. I had a loaner win 8 and hated everything between the computer and OS. I really like this Lenovo but im still having issues with win 8. Mainly this computer and the rental one seems very bogged down. Everything from social media or streaming etc even scrolling down this forum page has such a Lag or delay. Is this typical for win 8, can i do anything about this?
the lag is a delay. everytime I would scroll down a page it would have a delay, or if i stream a video (I use chromecast) it is delayed and choppy. My Win 7 Laptop had zero issues like these.

Network / Sharing :: Media Streaming With XBox - Cannot Locate PC
Jul 15, 2013Have currently got a new laptop with windows 8, am trying to media stream from media player. Basically the xbox cannot locate the pc on the network although the pc can see the xbox. I managed to get it to work briefly but it kept resetting and I don't understand why. I keep going through the same process to try and reset. I have also tried with and without joining a homegroup.
I have been through all the media streaming.
1. deleting the media player library folder files (%userprofile%Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMedia Player )
2. turning on media streaming again, share with devices.
3. setting media sharing service in the registry to automatic.
4. rebuilding the library
I have noticed that when I look at my network I can see the media device when media player is open, but the icon is not what it used to be and has a green play button rather than the media server device. Also when I restart my PC it never loads up as a media server.
Debugging :: BSOD While Playing Certain Games Or Live Streaming
Jun 29, 2014I have recently gotten a few BSODs while using Windows 7 Home, so I decided to upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro, I did a clean install and formatted my hard drive during the installation process hoping that it will solve maybe some drive related issues that was causing some of my BSODs.
After installing I am still getting BSODs, it's fine when I play certain games or browsing the net, but when I play one particular game so far on both Windows 7 and 8 it crashes and I get a BSOD, the most recent one I got while playing the game was BAD POOL HEADER with 0x00000019, the BSOD before this one was when I was livestreaming to check if the BSODs are gone that I was experiencing while using Windows 7. I checked the event logs and I kept getting errors about DeviceSetupManager with the code 0x80072EFD on both crashes.
I Googled the code and it says it's something about Windows update error or could be caused by virus. I'm not exactly sure how to fix either of these, I ran Malwarebytes to see if it can pick up anything, but it's clean, I'm using Windows Defender.
I'm also not too sure if it's hardware related since I get BSODs on both operating systems, even though I get completely different codes, BSOD and errors to what I have been getting with Windows 7. But when I was on Windows 7, I was on sevenforums trying to work out what is causing the BSODs and I have done a few things such as:
- running memtest86 for 24 hours and it found no errors
- ran disk check and then system file checker in the command prompt which was 100%.
- ran seatools and that had no errors
- ran driver verifier for 24 hours to try and cause a BSOD, but didn't cause any.
- ran 3 different benchmark tests to see if it's the Graphics card or any overheating issue and it was fine.
- Opened up my case to have a look around, cleared any dusts, reconnected the wires and re-seated the RAM.
- downloaded and installed the latest drivers
But here's the 2 minidumps that I've gotten since the Windows upgrade if any one could take a look at them for me to point me into the right direction to fixing this issue or to figure out if it's either software/drivers or hardware related.

Windows 8.1 Pro Install - Cannot Get Any Streaming Video / Refuse To Buffer
Jan 12, 2014So I've come across a few odd issues with my Windows 8.1 Pro install (without Media Center), KMS activated. For one, I'm missing the option to get a Windows Experience score. No big deal. I'm also missing the "Add Windows Features" option.
But the big problem is I can't seem to get any Streaming video via Windows 8 Apps. Netflix, Vimeo, YouTube, etc. All of them seem to refuse to buffer and play any video. Is this a symptom of not going with the Media Center option?
C Is Running Out Of Free Space

Feb 4, 2013I have a 200 gig partition on 1 drive that I have dedicated for games. But now it is filled, and even after shrinking my C drive to make space, I find that I still cannot extend my games partition. I've done a little reading and it appears that the issue is due to the free space not being directly beside the Games partition. I'm not sure, exactly, all I know is, I want to install more games and this technicality is preventing it.
Another thing that makes the situation more complex is that I have 2 other partitions on my drive that belong to Linux Mint. One is the main Mint partition, the other is a swap partition (similar to the page/swap file in Windows). I'm hesitant to try to mess around with moving those partitions since I'm not very experienced with Linux and if it doesnt boot I know I'll just reinstall it instead of trying to fix it. But I would like to avoid that in the first place.
I have tried with Disk Management, EaseUS, Paragon, Partition Wizard and GParted in Linux but they all wont let me make the games partition bigger, only smaller.
What I would like to do is to find a way to add free space to the Games partition, but without deleting other partitions or having to reinstall Linux. And more importantly, figuring out how to handle this kind of thing now so that I wont have issues extending partitions in the future. I also just figured I would say that I've converted the Games partition from primary to logical, due to the limitation of 4 primary partitions on a drive (maybe I'm wrong , but that's what I've heard). I say this because I recently had 4 primaries before trying to install Mint and Ubuntu, and neither of them would let me install. But as soon as I reduced to 3 primaries the issue went away and I was allowed to proceed. I figured that out after a bit of reading.
It is possible to move partitions on a disk so that they will be adjacent (either to the left or right) to another partition that needs to be extended?
I'm also posting a screenshot to make it easier for people to understand. The 36 gig partition is Linux's main partition, and the 15 gig partition to the right of it is Linux's swap partition. The pic also shows that both of those lie between the C drive and my games.

Jun 10, 2014My K partition is of 24.3GB and says that only 3.80GB is free.
However in reality, the data inside is worth only 14.3GB which means 10GB should be free, not 3.80GB.
What could be the problem? I have attached the screenshot too.
Even though there are no hidden files in this partition, I enabled 'View Hidden Items'. And the size is indeed 14.3GB only. So I wonder where my remaining 6.20GB is going!
New Laptop With 256GB SSD - Showing Only 170GB Free?
Jan 19, 2014I've just been playing around with my Sony Vaio Flip with a 256GB SSD and noticed a lot of space was missing. It is my understanding that Windows 8 & 8.1 uses space for recovery files and upgrade files. I guess my concern is whether the space I'm seeing is actually normal or not.
Upon viewing File Explorer, I show my C: drive to have 170GB out of 204GB free (available) for space. This is after I remove MOST (about 90%) of the bloatware that Sony came with. I also have Indexing and System Restore disabled/turned off. What happened to my ~34GB of space?
I then checked Disk Management and realized I had recovery partitions (see attached picture). My questions are as follows:
1) While the Disk Management adds up to 238GB of space, I am curious whether having 5 Partitions is normal with 2 of them being 31.59GB and 1.44GB. Is this common? If so, what are they? Should I or can I even remove them if I do not plan on using System Restore or restoring my laptop back to its original state?
2) With 34GB of space used for partitions, I have another ~34GB space gone as well. Remember that I only had about 170GB FREE space to use after uninstalling unnecessary programs and disabling System Restore and such. I haven't messed around with any other settings (I've heard things like PageFile, Hibernation, SuperFetch, etc. can take up lots of space). How can I check WHAT is exactly taking up another 34GB of usable space and to determine if I can GAIN that space back (by deleting or uninstalling other files/features?) Is the Windows 9 install THAT big?
3) I also want to add that I did upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 on the 1st day I got my laptop. Would this only add to the problem of disappearing ANOTHER 34GB of space?
All in all, I've lost 68GB total space it seems.

I have two installations of Windows 8 (and Windows 8.1), on two separate SSDs. Let's call one SYSTEM1, and the other one SYSTEM2.
Let's say I have booted inside the SYSTEM1 Windows installation. Now I want to backup SYSTEM2, with Macrium Reflect Free. I load Macrium Reflect and select all available partitions on the SYSTEM2 disk (which are just two, the main one and a system-reserved one).
By doing like this, will also the MBR (Master Boot Record) of SYSTEM2 get copied inside the Macrium image-backup? In other words, will Macrium Reflect always copy the master boot record (if available), even if the selected drive is not the one from which Windows is currently running?
Or will the MBR get copied just with the option "create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows"? Probably not.
I'm interest about this because it would be useful to do a backup of the MBR (together with the partitions), in case a virus infects it.

May 18, 2014I"ve installed windows 8.1 from fresh on a seperate parition on my macbook pro retina 2013 via Apple's bootcamp.
I allocated 40GB which when formatted is 37GB
But now I'm downloading Call of duty on steam which is 14GB however on my hard drive apparently I've only got 5GB left..
Is there a way to free up space or to see what on earth is taking up soo much space..
Ideally I want to buy Battlefield 4 on origin soon but that needs 30 GB space, obviously I'll delete the call of duty game but how can I get all my space back.
Extra Free Space After Installing Win 8 Pro 64bit
Jun 11, 2013I am using Win 8 Pro 64-bit version for the first time.
Previously I had Win 8 Pro 32-bit installed. There was an internal 250 GB SATA HDD connected as a secondary drive. No partitions. It showed me like 150 mb or so free in that.
Today I installed Win 8 64-bit. And when I connected that 250 GB drive as secondary, it showed me around 800 mb free.
My questions is- the extra free space where did it come from? is it due to 64-bit version of the OS installed now?
How To Extend Main Partition C With Enough Free Space

Some people tell me that is because the free space is not adjacent to my C partition. I don't know whether it is right. I simply want to extend my C partition successfully.
