View 2 RepliesHow to check if i update the windows 8.1 update 1 from x64 bits systems because i download all packages from microsoft download center and install in that order and dont recive error. Every package ask me to reestart i see all packages are installed on update history and on the section installed updates but I don't see nothing related to windows 8.1 update 1 as the way as see when you install from win update. I check for updates and dont find nothing. I have my service packs and mayor updates on my pc stored because in this house all use win 8.1 x64 and we have a slow connection and because i install by this way. I must say you i see all characteristics of the update 1 but i want to know if don't have errors i ran dism online clean up image restore health and sfc scannow and dont find errors. I only am worried because if this update was not installed properly the supports ends on may 13 and want to have install by the right way.

I purchased a new ASUS LAPTOP which came with windows 8 installed. When i tried to restart after installing Gtalk i got this message.
"Failure configuring windows updates. reverting changes. do not turn off your computer ".
I got this on last friday i.e the 6th of june, ever since i am not able to do anything with my laptop. I don't have windows 8 dvd as well. How do I reboot it?
Model number : Asus 15634 Laptop Intel Core i3 .
I also tried pressing the power button for 15 secs , still no luck. Tried f8 f9 and windows + r and windows+ X keys no luck.
After a BSOD and utter failure to boot (presumably a critical OS file damaged) I ran the recovery tools for a total factory reset.
Connected to the internet and worked for an hour or two, then tried a reboot. Windows update had 104 updates to process. It did them, then "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"
This should take half an hour. After 90 minutes it has rebooted 5 or 6 times. It keeps reverting to the same "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer" message. Looks like it might want to reboot through each of those 104 updates.
I'm going to repeat the factory reset and the FIRST thing I will do is disable updates. I'm going to see how long I can work without any updates.
I just reinstalled 8 on a ssd and tried to install 8.1 from the store but it says i need to update windows first. I tried running windows update but i get an error saying "Windows could not search for new updates" error code 80240440. I tried everything I could find online and nothing seems to work. I tried restarting windows update, i tried turning off firewall, I tried reinstalling windows again and selecting "check for updates online" before installing from the cd, i tried running a check disk, and there is absolutely no program installed on the drive other than windows.

I have had to system restore 3 or 4 times in the last week or so as Windows 8 refuses to boot after installing the latest updates discovered from the last couple of weeks (though some are from December 2012)
I have unchecked all the current updates and have decided against installing them as they seem to be preventing Windows from booting.
Pattern - "Restart to install updates"
Restart locks on the start screen - Restart again and locks again (repeat this process 3x)
"Windows is automatically repairing..." - Fails
"Windows must restore settings to a previous time..." - Usually succeeds, sometimes fails.
Then I can get back into Windows.
As soon as I install these updates, I won't get back into Windows until I system restore since before the updates and my build won't remain stable unless I prevent Windows from installing these updates. What could be going on?
They are quite big updates (totalling ~740mb and have all been discovered in the last week or so though some date back to late last year)
My laptop started installing updates when I powered down for four hours I have had this message on the screen - keep your PC plugged in until this is done. Installing update 17 of 24.....
How long do I leave this or can I power off and try and restart?
Why are some of the "Important" Windows 8 updates not automatically selected for installation?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was reviewing my windows updates and saw two optional updates that were pending. First one was for MS office and it went through fine. Second one was some update to AMD vision control center. During that update screen flashed couple of times and went for re-start. After that I am unable to get into the system. I tried safe mode/debugging/low resolution mode etc.. But all resulted in the same blue screen with the 0xc000021a error message.
I am able to go only to command prompt. Nothing else (fortunately I am able to backup my photos by connecting external hard drive and using command prompt). I checked the SRT log file but it doesn't say any issue. All passed.
I tried refresh PC but it came back and said "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes made".
I tried using win ISO image bootable flash drive. It couldn't get through me in (I just tried with PC repair option when I booted with ISO image).
Is there a way I can get over it without re-installing?
I am currently having an issue on my laptop at the moment where it's stuck in an infinite loop of 'reverting changes' after having tried to update and failed at 30%, I have done some reading at ways to boot into safe mode however it would appear windows 8 doesn't give me the chance.
I do not have a copy of my original windows 8 disc and am at a loss!
I have tried spamming F4, F8, F10 buttons and none are allowing me to enter boot mode.
So I restored my system because I had no other choice from it not booting before and it was working for a day, then when I restarted it said 'installing XX / 93 updates' so I let that run, and when It finally finished, it restarted said 'configuring windows updates XX% complete...' and then it suddenly said "Failed to configure updates. Reverting Changes." and then it looped this by restarting, trying to configure them, and then saying "Failed to configure updates. Reverting Changes." again...
I've got back into safe mode, what should I do to make it update properly again?
Someone suggested toggling "Secure Boot" in the BIOS, is that worth a try?
After I installed Windows 8 I started having the "0 KB Total, 0% Downloaded" issue while attempting to update, sometimes it does work, but most of the time it doesn't
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm constantly trying to update my Windows 8 but I'm unable to do so, because everytime I try to update it, it fails to install because of an errors. To be specific, its two updates with different errors 8007371B and 80073712.
Those two updates are the only one showing up. Their id is KB2856373 (Update for Windows 8 on x64 CPU's) and KB2781197 (Security update for Windows 8 on x64 CPU's).
I have already tried sfc, chkdisk, Windows update diagnostics from Microsoft website, resetting the services, Windows build-in tool to fix Windows update errors and nothing worked.
So some background. I had issues with being able to install ANYTHING from an MSI file. Then I wasn't able to install any updates from Windows Update. I then reinstalled Windows, and am now facing the same issue after a few days. I would rather not reinstall yet again.
I tried doing System Restore, but it just hangs. Windows Installer hangs on "preparing to install".
I just bought new Asus Vivotab Smart Windows 8 tablet, after the very first windows update it failed to install some of the updates, and then after the reboot I am now stuck with the message "Failure configuring Windows updates, reverting changes".
It never gets any further than this, it never reverts, I have left it running for an entire day and have restarted several times.
This is a tablet, so there is no keyboard so I cannot press any F keys to get into recovery mode, and no CD to boot from etc.
When I run Check for Updates it just hangs. It says it is checking for updates and green progress bar is repeatedly running across, but nothing happens.
Before this problem arose I had just run disk clean-up including remove installation files and windows updates. The disk clean-up process removed about 59 GB including a large Windows.old folder.
I upgraded to Windows 8 from XP about 10 days ago. Windows update was working fine until the disk clean-up. I ran Check for Updates frequently after the upgrade to make sure I got all the updates, it worked perfectly well for both update and install.
I have tried Checking for Updates several times since running disk clean-up.
First time I ran it I had this error message: Windows Update error 0x8024a000 (only seen that one time)
I ran the Update Troubleshooter after that and it found/fixed the following:
Potential windows update database error detected 0x80070490 -Fixed
Windows update components must be fixed - fixed
The troubleshooter did not resolve the issue. I have run Check for Updates many times since with no more error messages, but it just hangs. When I run the Update troubleshhooter it fixes the same two issues as above.
Since the disk clean, Windows Update shows:
Most recent check for updates - Never
Updates were installed - Never.
As my Windows Updates were previously all succesfully installed, the history must have been cleared.
No error messages have been seen since that first one which has not repeated.
When I was having problems with KB2975719, and going thru solutions, it drove me nuts trying to find if I had certain updates installed from the Installed List in Windows 8.1 since they are not in numerical order. (Contol Panel >Uninstall A Program > View Installed Updates)
I finally figured out where to find a numerical list which I could check much easier in determining if the updates required in some solutions were installed on my pc.
1. Install Belarc Advisor
2. Run and open Belarc Advisor
3. At the bottom of the opening page of BA, click on "click here to see all installed hotfixes" - a numeric order list.
4. Just to be sure all were there, I printed this list and manually compared it to my Control Panel Installed Updates one time.
I then had a numerical list to compare to all the KB's required for installation of KB2975719. Much easier for this simple brain than remembering a number and looking for it jumbled list.
I am trying to get things going with my Dell Venue 8 Pro, and I go through the initial setup fine. However, when I do Windows Update the network fails to connect after the following reboot.
When I look at the device/driver, it says it is working, but when I do a network troubleshooting it claims it must be a bad driver.
The driver doesn't seem to have been updated, based on the fact that the button to roll back is grayed out.
When I do a restore of my system, it works again until I do the Windows Update.
I have done this a couple of times, once with all updates, including the optional updates, and once downloading only the critical and important updates.
Other than doing each update individually, is there a reasonable way to figure out what is causing my issue?
Is it normal for Windows 8.1 to show "Applying Updates" after a BSOD crash? I saw this happen on my desktop earlier this week and now on my laptop. I checked the update log and there was no update applied immediately after the crash.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't see any option to hide the updates which you don't want to install. In windows 7, one can simply right click and choose hide the update, but no such thing in windows 8.1.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOn Win 8 (not 8.1) will be first -time user soon - How do i do the updates for Win 8 once new computer is set up and 'running' ? Because it's been sitting on a store shelf i'm sure there are Win. updates required ..not familiar how to find 'that' section inorder to do the updates ! Guess i want to do that before signing onto internet - right ? this will be a whole new world to me - been using XP for eons
PS any other 'hints' as a newby to '8' even if i haven't thought to ask ! PPS: do you recomment i just set options to ''automatic' updates? with XP i know how to find Control Panel to set that but how do i find Control Panel (if that's where i do it ) on Win 8 ... boy am i 'green' !
I have installed the updates for the above, both with automatic updates on and off.
It gets to 15% then fails
How do i get them to configure
It seems that Windows 8 will only install some updates after a restart. No surprises here. However, since the Windows 8 "user" shutdown is not a real shutdown, but a hibernation (hence it will not be followed by a restart, and will not install updates), Windows 8 forces us to an extra restart/reboot. Is there a a way to simulate the logical behaviour of all previous Windows editions? That is, when updates that require a restart are installed, if the user shuts down, the updates get installed and the pc shuts down...Currently, my only away around this, is to select restart, wait... then enter the BIOS and turn off the pc there... Not intuitive.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed the 13 updates & they fried my computer.
I had to resort to a Macrium image to get it to work again.
Am making a new image now. Made some other changes I want to save.
Then I'll try the 13 updates again.
Today I installed Windows 8.1 on my notebook. I have 60GB SSD on my notebook so basicly just for windows and some programs (no movies etc. that's all saved on external hard drive). However, when I installed windows, it took wery little space. I still had 44GB free. After updates and installing MS Office, I now have only 22GB free. So I'm wondering, how can some updates and MS office take 22GB of disk space? Is here anything I can do, to get more space on my computer?

I realised the lack of computer restarts for updates, and I noticed that I have updates that need to be download. When I tried to download the updates, The progress seemed to stop. Thinking this was normal, I left the download to be. When I came back to it, It said that windows could not install the updates. want to try windows 8.1
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy laptop has been updating since 7am and it's now 3pm. It's still on ONE of TWENTY ONE updates. It says do not unplug, which I did not but I did shut it down because this is ridiculous. This is also the 2nd time it has happened. The first time I shut down (A couple of weeks ago) and when I turned it back on it took me to my desktop and everything was fine. But now, it's not taking me to my desktop. The instant I turn it back on it says Installing ONE of TWENTY ONE. How can I get this to stop? I have important documents on my laptop and I take online classes. I don't want my computer to install ANY updates.
