I am trying to install windows 8 32bit on my Optiplex GX270 but every time when file copying completes and system restarts to complete installation, screen goes blank and then nothing happens.

I'm making a rebuild soon and I think 64bit would really benefit me, apart from some programs I use that are being discontinued in 32bit. A friend of mine recently upgraded to Win 8 too, but he bought the CD. Could I use his CD to overwrite my Win 8 32bit with a 64bit one? And another question: if I could (and I hope I can) is there an option during install to leave some free space for Linux? Having Windows 8 only is not safe ..

The laptop is so old it won't let me install 64 bit, is there a 32 bit version on the disk hidden away I could install or are they totally separate disks?
Is it possible to download a copy which would work for 30 days without entering a serial number or even an old beta copy.
I have been given a dell inspiron 531 with 64 bit AMD processor, running 32 bit vista home basic, that has responded well to RAM upgrade to 4GB.
I want to install 64 bit win 8 pro media centre which I have on an original MS CD. either over current vista or on separate partition as dual boot.
For some reason the dell wont read the MS win 8 64 disk (or any other original MS OS disks I have (vista-32/7-64/8-32)) but reads pretty much everything else (DVD's excepted as currently has no DVD reading software.)..either through explorer or during boot..it is not only original ms discs that are a problem as dell won't read Windows 8-64 enterprise trial iso I burned myself either.
I have tried turning off security software (MS security essentials/MS firewall)..no change.
CD's all read fine via explorer on my lightly hopped up HP tx1340ea running win 8-64 pro media centre.
I tried to install 32 bit Windows 8 in my friends laptop through bootable usb. It has win7 preloaded. I tried for the dual boot. But when I select the partition drive it said that windows cannot be install in that drive because the selected drive is GPT partition style. How to install Windows 8 os in that GPT partition style hard drive.
Laptop has Hard disk-500 gb,64 bit win7.
I've been salivating at the idea on installing W 8-64 Pro on a Dell Optiplex 755 at work. But a sudden reality check came over me & I realize Windows 8 doesn't necessarily work on older machines. The Dell is a Vista era machine. So maybe W 7-64 Pro would be a better choice?

I am trying to upgrade my sons win 7 32 bit to windows 8 32 bit he had bought a few days ago.I have tried 5 times .All 5 times it installs fine and reboots and gets to the point where it says 89% getting ready it then reboots and crashes with a blue screen from windows 8 ,the new one.What could be the problem, I have tried no startup items,checked off hide Microsoft services and disabled the rest.The mobo is a Asus P5LD2 . View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded from Microsoft (so no disc) Windows 8 32bit. Didn't realise my 64bit compatible Dell laptop was not using all its 8gb of RAM then found out it couldn't with a 32bit OS.
Its just when I run some tasks like Handbrake conversion or DVD conversion processes it slows my web browsing to a snails pace and someone suggested I needed more RAM!...thus my investigating why only 2.99gb was being used.
Have I got to fork out for a totally new licence?..I can't remember if when I bought this version it asked me if I wanted 32 or 64 version!
I already bought and installed Windows 8. I have a i7 laptop with 64bit proccessor but somewhat the company decided to pull it out with win7 32 bit OS. When I upgraded to Windows 8 I wanted to switch to 64bit but didn't find the option for that during the installation proccess. View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got a new laptop, a Lenovo X230, for which I paid extra to have the OS on it as Windows 8 Pro.
So--now I have it, and Win 8 Pro 64 is installed and activated on it. I am a legal owner of Win 8 Pro.
However, I would like to do a clean install of Win 8 on the computer, to have it free of bloatware, etc. (In fact, I would like to set up a multi-boot with Win 7, and perhaps even triple boot with Xp as well. (I have installation media and my product keys for XP and 7 though, so those are not really a problem.)
The computer came with no discs at all. There is a procedure to make recovery disks. I may do that, but I think those will be to restore the computer to how it came from the factory, and therefore not usable for a clean install.
I don't see my product key for Win 8 anywhere. Not on the computer, not on any kind of card that came with it, etc.
I looked at the tutorial here for clean install of Windows 8, but it requires an install disc and product key. I have neither, although I am a legal owner of Windows 8.
Is there a way I can create (from my installed Windows 8) a win 8 install disk, that can be used for a clean install? Or a link to download one? Is there a way I can get my product key?
when I installed it (Windows 8 32 Bit DP), I now don't have the option to select Linux on my Boot (Linux Wubi Desktop 10.10) and with Windows 7 I did.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm well aware that the gx270 is an older machine but I've upgraded it several times now with various hardware so I'm happy with it's performance. What Ii'm not happy with is it's inability to run W8 and Dell's lack of interest to keep up it's bios upgrades to adjust to new os or software. I've tried installing W8 and found that i hadn't got NX bit enabled on my processor.
I looked for it in the bios but couldn't find it so I ran coreinfo.exe and found my processor has nx bit capabilities but i can't turn it on or off in the bios. I've tried installing W8 from the setup in sources file but it failed on reboot with the same nx bit error code.
I am trying to upgrade from windows 8 pro to windows 8.1 on a samsung laptop. The download completes and installation starts.
After a while the following message appears "you cant install windows on a usb flash drive with setup"
I am not actually trying to install to a flash drive. I contacted Microsoft and after 5 hours they said that I should connect to the internet with a cable and not by wireless in order to solve the problem (this didn't work of course and I had told them that it was an install problem and not a download problem).
Until very recently i was running Windows 8 with a 240 GB Sandisk SSD as a primary and a 2 TB Western Digital Green HDD as a storage. I decided to set up a RAID 1 setup so i purchased a second 2 TB HDD and installed it.
My intent was to run windows 8 off the 240 SSD as a primary and have a RAID 1 setup for my 2TB HDDs.
I learnt that my data configuration was set to AHCI. I decided to do a complete clean install and change the sata configuration in BIOS to RAID.
After successfully creating a RAID volume using my 2TB HDDs i proceeded to install Windows off my primary. I am however having difficulties in that it will not allow me to install windows on either drive.
I bought yesterday an OptiPlex 7010 with windows 8. Product key is in the bios as I have read on the internet. Due to a crash of the os I had to reinstall windows 8 using the operating system cd included in the package. I have booted from dvd. After a clean reinstallation the os is not activated and I can not do anything about it because no product key is available. What should I do?

Device manager says it's installed properly and functioning well. My Q is this: how do I run the installation DVD from the DVD drive using the Command Prompt. On Windows Start-up I hit F12 to access the boot order, and when I arrowed down to the DVD drive and hit ENTER, Windows would just jump straight to the XP start-up process. My USB Flash Drive won't boot from it but it does my my desktop so not the USB flash drive.The flash drive was created for UEFI or MBR boot using Rufus. I tried the tutorial in sevenforums to convert the Acer to GPT but it says the boot drive is in use and can't. I tried to boot to a Command Prompt but that gives me an X: drive and I can't change it to C prompt. I have done this before from a boot drive and it worked but won't on this machine. How can I get this converted from MBR to GPT??? How can they make that tutorial work for them? They are doing it from within windows there??? This machine BIOS has nothing for legacy or UEFI or secure boot for sure. Is my only option MBR then? If it is what do I make the flash drive with as Rufus option says for UEFI or MBR but won't boot this machine. Yes I have it to boot first but it lights up but goes straight to windows.

Every time I install (Pro Disk) when it finishes and restats, it goes right back to the beginning of the install Once I can get it installed, once the first screen spins, it stays black, but if I sleep and wake it, it goes right to the sign in screen-weird.
Then, it says no updates have been searched or ever installed, when I search I get the Error Code 80248007 cannot update.
My PC got into a loop where it kept trying to install Windows 8, crashing and trying again.
Somebody advised using killdisc to wipe clean, however, I can't boot from the Windows 8 disc to install because hard drive is not found.
What steps do I need to follow in order to get it running again?
We got a nice Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook and all it needed was a hard drive. Now.. here's the problem.. I'm good with a screwdriver or a soldering iron but software isn't my strong point.
It's a genuine Windows 8 machine and as I understand it, it will have the genuine COA embedded in the bios right?
Now I've tried installing Windows 8.0 64bit OEM which I believe is the correct uk ISO, and I've tried the Pro version also but with both, neither seem to pick up the embedded COA and therefor do not activate.
Am I correct in thinking that it might be because I have to use CSM mode in the bios to get it to recognise my installation media? If I had a UEFI version would it make any difference?
