View 7 RepliesI have an HP laptop running Windows 8. On 09/15, it did an automatic update to Windows. After that I am not able to browse internet using any browser - IE, firefox, Chrome. My laptop connects to internet. Apps like yahoo messenger works fine. But browsers wont.
I searched internet and as per some forums I tried 'netsh winsock reset ' command. After that browser will connect to internet, but after a minute or so, it stops connecting. Also, I noticed that when I do a restart, the laptop doesnt restart. It shows the 'Restarting' screen for hours and I have to manaully power it off.
I have no clue what update was pushed by microsoft which messed up my laptop. The laptop is pretty new and I did not have any issues until the windows update.
(I don't use IE a lot ) I run a completely updated Windows 8.1 (home?) edition operating system so the browser I take it should be fully updated already. I have tried opening it directly from the local directory for it and also running as an administrator and neither would make it open.
There is no error message and there is no direct indication in the processes currently running under task manager that shows that it has booted up and is just not responding.
I thought maybe I could uninstall it but... then I look under program and features and I didn't see any relative program to uninstall for it. I remember a few years back uninstalling like version six or seven under a xp operating machine but that was ages ago.
I am trying to migrate my email folders (sent, saved, etc.) from OE6 and windows XP to the new Windows 8 mail. I have managed to get the DBX files on flash drive But I cannot find any info on how to migrate it to windows 8.

I have Windows 8 64 bit and I use the desktop Internet Explorer (I don't know what version it is, 10 I imagine?)
Anyway whenever I try to watch a video on Youtube or watch Netflix Internet Explorer crashes.
I have reset the settings on it and troubleshooted it and even downloaded a pc cleaner and cleaned up the pc and still nothing works.
I have the latest version of Adobe Flash and Silverlight.
Unfortunately, Internet Explorer 11 does not display Citrix Access Gateway log in window. Ive tried to change some of the security in the settings but nothings working. Also tried to install IE 10 but it wont install, saying its already installed.
Can we actually use IE10 on Win 8? Not sure why it says its there when all I see is IE11.
I have 8.1 with IE11 which will not run or open. In desktop mode the icon lights up for about 3 seconds, no window ever shows up and then the icon goes back to normal. In metro mode it spins and maximizes on the screen but then goes away before anything else happens. I've tried several things to get this fixed including...
netsh winsock reset at DOSremoving IE11 and adding back via Turning on or off Windows features in "Programs and Features"Removing any and all AV or Firewall software.Applying all Windows updatesResetting IE11 using its own reset button in "Internet Options"
Other browsers such as Chrome seem to work fine. I can ping by IP and name so I don't think its IP stack related.
I have a Desktop and a Laptop, both wirelessly connected to a router, and part of a HomeGroup. Sharing over HomeGroup works like a breeze. Occasionally I need to copy something large between the 2, so I connect an Ethernet cable.
To actually transfer the files, currently I have to : disconnect wifi from both, else step 3 won't work assign 192.0.0.0/24 addresses to each of them, setting no gateway try to browse the network, upon which I can force the conversion of network type to private upon which I might still have to manually type in the IP address in UNC format (192.168.1.3)I have to authenticate as my user account on the other machine. Then I have to share the required folders... Sometimes "pulling" the files doesn't work, upon which I have to assign write permissions onto a folder on the destination computer and "push" the files. Ugliest thing I have encountered.
I hate this process with a passion, because I have to do it every time. I have no clue how or why Windows decides a particular network to be "Identified" or "Unidentified". I would like some way of forcing Windows to treat all PC-to-PC connections as private (this arrangement is obviously VERY private, about as private as it gets), so that sharing is enabled, and so that it is recognized as a part of the HomeGroup, and then if I change the order of preference to Ethernet > WiFi, I should be able to have it automatically transfer over WiFi+Ethernet, just WiFi, or just Ethernet depending on which link is up....
I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 pro and internet explore will not open at all from any icon or area. I read where someone removed Logitech web cam to fix the issue, but I do not have that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn a Dell notebook, o/s Windows 8.1, from an icon in the Desktop or in the Quick Access area IE opens behind the Desktop. The tabs for MSN and another user specific opening page can be seen above the Desktop window. I could not find a way to alter this strange behaviour or find its cause.
The laptop is new and has displayed this problem previously and returned to normal behaviour without input from the owner/user. The problem recurred after a restart following the installation of TeamViewer and Malwarebytes AntiMalware.
Yet another Windows 8 issue. When I try to attach a file with Mail app, I get a blank screen with "Attach" and "Cancel" at the bottom right. I can't click on anything though and I can only exit the app completely. Even clicking cancel doesn't do anything.
This is not an issue about not knowing how to attach files.
My issue is that the built-in file explorer in the mail app doesn't work. It just goes blank and doesn't allow me to select anything or even show any files or folders.
I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It's updated to the latest version. I even did the Metro User Interface App Troubleshooter thingy.
I have a windows 8 laptop, and I was on internet explorer this morning when I was prompted to shut it (this is because of what I was doing, however I know what I was doing was safe as it was checked by Norton and done by may other people, not just me). However, one it shut error messages kept popping up saying internet explorer has stopped working, and the were coming up 30 at a time. As of now, I can click on internet explorer just fine from the app-like view, however what I want to do needs the desktop version, which crashes within seconds of me opening it. The error messages will then start popping up, and the internet is just unusable in desktop mode.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba laptop and Windows 8.1 operating system. When I click on the Internet Explorer tile on the Start page, either the latest accessed application's webpage is displayed, or an error message saying that the website address not found. Therefore if I want to access a webpage, I cannot enter its address in the address bar of Internet Explorer. instead I hold down the Microsoft Logo and press s for search. I works, but I do not understand the contradiction between the error message and the fact that internet Explorer is actually working.

I have just updated my windows 8 pc and it asked me about selecting my browser, I choose internet explorer. However I have now gone onto my desktop part of my laptop and the internet explorer icon has disappeared. I can still get on through the windows 8 side of things but I want the icon back on the desktop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 8.1 on my Laptop, I formatted the hard drive and did a clean install, when I opened Internet Explorer it went to my usual home page??
How is that possible? I have not set up a home page since installing Windows 8.1.
I have Windows 8 which I have been using for 4 months now with little problem.
Last night I noticed the internet address bar does not have previously typed urls there no more, all it has is the start page url. So, when you click on the down arrow at the far right of the screen to select your previously entered address like say google.com, it shows nothing. So now every time I wish to visit a previously viewed page, I have to type in the url.
How can I correct this?
when i am using IE10 my pc just hangs and does nothing, i have to press the power button to turns it off as nothing works.

So basically, IE11, independent of what the settings for Windows 8.1 is, will ALWAYS have autocorrect on and there's no easy way to disable it. I actually even encountered an official bug report were an MS employee closed it stating that "this is by design for now".
Without further ado, spell-checking is controlled by C:WindowsSystem32MsSpellCheckingFacility.dll. You'll want to rename this to something, say MsSpellCheckingFacility(2).dll, to disable this.
For those not technically inclined, note that this is a system file and it may cause some problems. Specifically, if you want Windows 8 to spell check for you but not IE11. You'll also need to take ownership of said file if you want to rename it. See Take Ownership of a File, Folder, Drive, or Registry Key in Windows 8.
I have a similar problem with EI 11 on my PC with Windows 8.1, which is fully updated. It happens whenever I try to "Save as" a download or to print a web page.
So far I have reset it, opened it as administrator and turned off smart screen filter - to no effect.
Should I try to disable EI from the Uninstall Programs - Turn Windows on or off?
I want to re-install Internet Explorer into my Win 8 pro. I am using a Toshiba Laptop Satellite. I have tried to download and install other version of Win 8 pro, but I receive an error message saying that Internet Explorer is already installed in my system. However, I have tried searching for it, and I can't find it anywhere.
Where is Internet Explorer installed in my Win 8 Pro edition, if I have deleted all of it from my OS?
Also, how to re-install Internet Explorer so that I can use it again.
I have tried to set it as a default browser, but this method does not work.
Internet Explorer 11 will only open if I right click and then select Run As Administrator. If I don't do this, the window opens, then closes straight away without doing anything. Links in Incredimail will not open in it either
.
Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox work fine (and with the Incredimail links). I have not added any programs recently. I have tried a clean boot, I have disabled all the add ons, I have checked/unchecked Enable Enhanced Protected Mode, I have made Google Chrome the default browser, then changed back to IE11, I have run Malwarebytes Anti Malware, Super Anti Spyware, Windows Defender and CCleaner, checked for Windows updates...all to no avail. Tried a system restore as well, but no joy.
After upgrading my OS to Win 8.1 Pro, (upgraded from 8.0) when using Explorer it keeps locking up and hangs the entire machine - the mouse freezes and the entire thing locks up, the only way to recover is to reboot the PC.
Looking at it, it looks like it might be caused by pop ups from the page I am viewing at the time - If I use IE it locks up on the initial page, if I switch to Chrome the point where IE locks up is the same point that Chrome opens a second window within the main window.
I cannot access anything, cannot get task manager or switch programs, nothing - I have to power off and restart.
My Internet Explorer is keep on asking for the User Name and Password.
Steps Taken :
1) Deleted the cookies and deleted the temp files too.
2) Reset the Browser and disabled all the Add-on's
3) Uninstalled and installed the IE.
Same URL is working in other browser's ( Chrome , Firefox )...
I recently encountered a problem where my browsers (IE and Firefox) and email stopped working. I know I have an internet connection - I can ping Google for example. And I have other laptops that are working fine. The weird thing is when I reboot I can sometimes use the browser or email but after a couple of minutes it stops again (stuck in waiting for google.com). This has been going on for a week now. I tried restoring from earlier but still doesn't work. I've tried resetting DNS and WINSOCK and TCP - makes no difference. I'm running Norton and Malwarebytes.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been always a Microsoft person. But I have tried any and all fixes to try and get internet explorer to stop coming up with internet explorer has stopped working will search for a problem.
I as of today have disabled it and are using another browser that does not have this bug in it. I am having no trouble with the browser I am using, and it does not stop working like ie 11. I do not think you should have to go threw all hoops and loops to get this to work correctly. Microsoft should come up with something that works correctly all the time and you do not have to check add ins, disable other items or what not.
