Win 7 Hard Drive Shows As Foreign
in windows 7 on boot-up today I lost a hard drive. It now shows as! disk1 dynamic Foreign with no option to give it a drive letter? how can I get these files back ?

Because windows gave me the blue screen of death yesterday, I had to reinstall, now it won't show my second laptop HD. During the install, I partitioned both drives, and it detected them, now it only shows my 1 HD with the windows directory in it. How do I solve this issue?

IE8 Shows Hard Drive Folders Into Favourites
I have Win 7 Enterprise installed. When I click into my IE8 Favorites, my HD folders are appearing there. I did some tests and if I try to delete them, my original HD files are deleted. Maybe it happened when I tried do bring back my favorites from my backup files (ex Win XP), and I think that IE8 added all folders of my c: hard drive instead of only my favorites bookmarks. Now, I can't even add new bookmarks. Please my friends, is there anyway to fix that?

Swapping Data Between Vista Ultimate 64 Hard Drive To Win 7 64 Hard Drive
I'm looking for a way to retain my video collection that doesn't involve moving all the files to an external drive and back again. I currently am formatting a new WD Caviar Black drive and am looking to install Windows 7 to this drive because it is faster than my current WD Caviar Blue drive. My blue drive has vista ultimate 64 bit installed is there anyway to move my data between the drives so I can reformat my primary drive (blue) and turn it into a storage disk (then make it a secondary) and use my new drive as the boot drive for windows 7? I have the MSDN release for Windows 7 Professional from my college that I burned to a bootable DVD.

Win 7 Not Detecting Hard Drive, Floppy And Dvd Drive
The bios is detecting all of them but Windows 7 is not. The floppy's power is on all the time and it is enabled in the bios. My 3rd hard drive is not being detected, however I did delete some windows 7 files and it was working before that. And I have no idea about my dvd drive. My other drive is working though.

Foreign Language Support
I notice in the compare section on Windows 7 it has "Work in the language of your choice and switch between any of 35 languages" as a feature available only in Windows7 Ultimate. Does this mean that Home Premium and Professional will not allow me to work in a language besides English if I don't have Ultimate?

Win 7 On A New Hard Drive
I've recently purchased a Windows 7 upgrade, to use on my windows vista hard drive now, I believe its an OEM version as i bought it off software4students.co.uk, but it may be retail, that i am not sure of. Any who, I'm getting a new computer, and i thought rather than buy a whole new OS, why not use my legit version of vista on my old hard drive and update it to 7? What i plan to do, is put my hard drive into my new computer whilst it still has vista, I'm guessing its going to say it won't boot, so i put the windows 7 upgrade disk in, and restart my pc and then do a complete clean(custom) install of Windows 7 over vista. My question is will this work? If you need any info about the pc im getting, every component is changing, except for my cpu, that will remain the same. Also is there an easier way of doing this?

I built a computer and added two hard drives. When I installed Windows 7 it asked me which hard drive to use. I installed onto a 1T and wanted my 2T as a backup. When windows came up, it does not show the 2 Terabite in "my computer". It does show it in device manager and comouter manager.Â

Is Win 7 Eating My Hard Drive ?
since installing win7, my HD has been making a new noise. not an alarming grinding or anything, just a new, quiet buzz, sort of like a bit of paper stuck in a fast fan. it only starts when I've been using win7 for a few hours. I have XP installed in a different partition on the same drive, and I can use XP all day and leave it on all night, and never hear this buzzing. so I have two theories: one: win7 is using a part of the drive, physically, that I've never used much before (I had a lot of free space on my XP drive, so I just repartitioned and put win7 on the last 33%) and this is simply what that part of the drive sounds like. I'm inclined not to believe this, though, because if the drive starts buzzing, and I restart and boot xp instead, it keeps on buzzing. it only goes away if I turn my PC off for a few minutes, which leads me to. two: win7 is accessing the hard drive VASTLY more often than xp does, and it's heating up a lot more. the unusual amount of heat is causing some kind of mechanical difference, and it's making a new sound. I don't know about this either, because I've used this PC hard with XP many times. I do a lot of sound work, which frequently involves constant manipulation of multi-GB files for hours at a time. I've yet to try anything particularly hard on the hardware in win7. any ideas?

I have an old IDE hard drive and it has windows 7 installed on it i need to move it to my new SATA hard drive i have heard that the hard drive companies give a copying tool with the hard drives but i just want to move windows 7 to my new hard drive without any problems and doing it with the hard drive copying tool seems too easy.

How To Format Hard Drive With Win 7 Cd ?
I am doing a fresh install of Windows. I have done this before with XP, but the options are a little different on the Windows 7 DVD. What I am concerned about is the ability to format C Drive with a "Full Format" rather than a "Quick Format". The XP disk would give the user an option, but the Windows 7 dvd does not - it just has "Format" and appears to only do a quick format. How can I do a "Full Format" of C then install the Windows 7 on it?

New Hard Drive With New Win 7 Install
I want to replace my C drive with a new WD 640. Can I disconnect my existing C drive - 3 years of XP and 1000s of files; install new WD drive; format and do new install of W7. Question: when I reconnect old C drive, will W7 have access to all those old files? Seems like a simple way to clean install W7 - start with a NEW drive.

2 questions: 1.) I want to get Windows 7 and upgrade from XP. I know about the clean install, and that's great, my question is about re-partitioning my hard drive. Does it completely format the Hard drive and install there, and if so, will it give me the option to re-partition my drive? My master drive is an 80 gig, and I have it partitioned 20 (C: ) and 60 (E: ), and I want to fix that and give my C drive much more room, and my E partition less. Will the Windows 7 installation give me the option to rearrange partitions or is that something I have to do at the beginning of the windows XP installation? 2.) I have a lot of games on my slave drive...will I need to re-install those as well, or will Windows 7 recognize them? Is there an easy way to add those to the registry again without having to install them? I have a lot of games on my slave drive..

Hard Drive Win 7100 Troubles
ive been happy with 7100 except for the only thing that is my HDD. I have 2x 500gbs 1x250 and 2x1tbs in my PC all are fine except one of the terabyters.... now its not physical ruined, it works in other PC's and in Vista. So it must be a win7 problem... basically either it doesnt let me access it at all. eg.. "I/O error" or i go into it, then as soon as i double click/run/open something it takes forever and works or freezes or freezes straight away (nto the whole PC just explorer. then i have to kill explorer.

Can Win 7 Be Installed TO A USB Hard Drive ?
1. I have read through many threads here and have not truly found anything useful. The closest things I have found were installing to an internal disk as a VHD, and then migrating to a USB HDD and modifing some settings; or connecting the HDD via eSATA.DO YOU NOT THINK THAT PEOPLE MIGHT WANT TO INSTALL TO USB BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO THE OBVIOUS!! 2. I have a netbook (Dell Mini9). I don't have eSATA, nor am I willing to spend the money on a large enough half mini-PCIe SSD to install via VHD. If my internal HDD was large enough to install one OS, then the VHD, I would either dual boot, or just install the OS on the internal drive. 3. The problem with the half mini-PCIe SSDs is that the Sequential Read/Write Access 40MB/sec / 15MB/sec respectively. With a 7200rpm USB drive, I should get about the same performance, slightly less on the read, but slightly better on the write, and balancing out the read/write times would make lag less noticeable. 4. If you answer the question with "it should theoretically install" or "it depends on your BIOS settings" or "just take out your internal hard drive" then you need to stop posting. If you have not tried to perform this task, then you probably don't have much of an informed opinion of this. We aren't looking for it should, we are looking HOW. Please understand what the question is before posting. The question is "Can Windows 7 be installed TO a USB Hard Drive? If so, how?" There are plenty of posts on installing FROM a USB drive.

I understand that to use the Win 7 upgrade disc I must run setup from within windows ( XP Pro SP3 ). In my case I will be doing a clean install on a virgin SSD drive. So I install XP and activate. Then run setup from Win 7 disc. It sees I have a legit license for XP and allows the custom installation. Once installed, I activate and I gather that my new product key takes over, and the old XP product key and license is now 'converted' to a Win 7 installation. Now what happens if I have a hard drive crash. I can re install XP, but now I will NOT be able to activate XP so I presume win 7 will install but WILL NOT activate. What do I do now ??

Installing On New Hard Drive Vista Vs Win 7
I have a quad core i720 intel processor and the asus p6t deluxe V2 motherboard and a basic 512 video card. I installed Vista 64 bit first - took about 50 minutes. Then installed Windows 7 RC1 on a second hard drive (dual boot) and it installed in 20 minutes. It couldnt find the divers for chipset but shortly after it said I didnt have them installed (they werent available on the mb setup disk nor on Asus website) and it asked if I wanted them installed and windows installed the drivers. Much more intuitive. Also I looked at the processes running on initial startup - I had perhaps 8 on windows 7 and perhaps 25-30 on vista. That alone made me a believer. Now it wont run all of the software i would like to run (some antivirus and antispyware - spydoctor - zonealarm etc) but that was the same thing initially for vista. Oh superatispyware ran from the get go on vista and does on windows 7. I cant figure out why other antispyware and antivirus companies hem themselves and make a product that is so OS version specific. Overall I am impressed with windows 7 - far less processes running in the background. The beta of win 7 crashed when I tried to join my domain. Had to reinstall then I left well enough alone. The RC1 joined domain without a hitch. Less trouble than either XP or Vista. Runs my business programs just fine. been testing those for a month. Also pleased with the try before you buy concept. I can use the win 7 setup thhrough may 31 2010. Would like to see the price of the OS come down a bit. Close to $300 is a little steep to convert more of my machines to win 7. I am running a laptop with vista, 2 desktops with vista. and three desktops with XP.

Hard Drive Failure, Uninstall Win 7
I installed Windows 7 on an old hard drive that I added to my system for Windows 7, it died, it was not my main hard drive. Now every time I boot it looks for the secondary drive and tries to boot Windows 7 first. Do I simply disable or remove the drive from the bios, or is there a more involved process?

Win 7 Accessing External Hard Drive
I pre-copied some files from my main computer (Windows XP) to a Buffalo External Hard Drive with a Western Digital 500GB in it, so that I could use some of my music and videos. On Connecting, it detected the name, the hardware, but when I went to open the drive, it said "Access Denied". I have been through all the suggestions on Google, including adding a new user to the Security Page, but all have failed. One even led to a folder being "Access Denied" back on the XP Machine. It isn't urgent as I squeezed it through the network, but wanted to point it out, as it could be dangerous in a more-critical situation.

Losing Hard Drive Space With Win 7
So, I've done what I *think* is standard to check this; no spy junk or viruses, did a scandisk and disk cleanup, but I'm still losing a few gigs at a time to the air- 3 gigs today, 3 last week, and a gig here and there- Is there a way to trace what your computer's downloaded during the day (nothing intentional, I assure you)? I also saw something about a 'shadow file', but I don't know where to check/change the settings to keep my comp from being gobbled up by gnomes. BTW,this is 64 bit Windows 7 beta, dell studio, and my computer is black (that should help).

Installing Win 7 RC To A Blank Hard Drive
Originally did a clean install on an XP system with no issues. However, the hard drive has become damaged so we have to replace it. Hard drive is SATA 500GB, original was a Hitachi, new one is a Seagate. Bios SATA Mode is set at RAID, with other choices of IDE and AHCI (not sure initials are correct). When we try to load the OS, we receive a message that drivers are needed for the hard drive. Can't find those drivers anywhere. Have tried HP and the mother board manufacturor with no luck. HP just tells how to update drivers on an existing OS and the motherboad maker has no listing for the motherboard. Have tried Google and gotten the same results. We can use the old hard drive enough to find the drivers on it but we're not allowed to copy them.

Booting From Win 7 Hard Drive Issues
I have just installed Windows 7 Beta onto a new, seperate hard disk. I have tried to remove my current hard disk with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit installed on it and replace it with my Windows 7 hard disk. However, my computer cannot boot the Windows 7 hard disk by itself, it needs the current Vista hard drive with it to boot properly. Is there a way of booting the Windows 7 Hard Drive on its own as I plan to stop using Vista for quite a while.Â

Hard Drive Problem After Win 7 Installed
I installed the Windows 7 release candidate, reformatted the hard drive during installation. After installation, all was good. I shut down the computer for the night, and the next morning, it wouldn't boot. Tried to reinstall, and I was informed the hard drive was corrupt! Damn. This is really testing my interest in wanting to upgrade to Win 7 already!
