Upgrades For Trial Version Of Windows 7

I had a friend build a new computer for me and he put the trial verison of Windows 7 on it.  I have upgraded it to the RC version of Windows 7.  Will the upgrades for Windows 7 that are currently being offered as pre-sales, do me any good since I do not have a previous version of Windows on my computer?

I do not have Vista, nor do I have XP.  The only operating system I have is the trial version of Windows 7.  Does that mean I have to buy a full copy of Windows 7 and not the Upgrades?  And if so, will there be any advance sales for the full versions with possibly discounts for uses of the trial version of Windows 7?

Warning Message For 90 Trial Version Of W7 Enterprise
I am an IT professional doing Oracle application development remotely for a client. I want to see if the business applications I am running for my client and my company work under Windows 7. What exactly does Microsoft mean when they say "We do not recommend that you install this if you are a not an IT Professional or not professionally managing corporate networks"? Is there something about the trial version that is different from the version that we will get when we purchase the OS?

When I installed the program it installed flawlessly. Yet when I go to run the test itself instead of starting to play video I consistently get a blue screen of death. I can try to replicate it more and get the exact message if it would be helpful. Anyone have any ideas? All of my video card drivers are up to date.

Discounted Windows 7 Upgrades - How Many Bits ?
Microsoft opened the window this morning for the discounted upgrade packages of Windows 7 Home Premium and Professional, but a check of the Best Buy, Amazon and even the Microsoft Store sites leave a question unansered? Is the discounted upgrade 32bit or 64bit? There is no reference on any site about the difference. It makes a big difference.

I am a Member Moderator on another site and there has been a lot of interest on this topic, one member commenting he has just ordered two packages, one for each of his two Vista machines. Unfortunately he mentioned that one is 32 bit and one is 64 bit. If he has one of the new power user machines with 6 to 8 GB of memory, he is going to be upset if he gets a 32 bit upgrade for his 64 bit Vista Machine.Does anyone have any answers?

When attempting to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 the upgrade attempt may fail with the message “This version of Windows could not be installed, Your previous version of Windows has been restored, and you can continue to use it." However, the next reboot of the machine will launch the upgrade process again only to fail with the same message.

This Version Of Word For Windows Is Not Compatible With Your Windows Version
I have installed Word 97 a couple of weeks ago and have been using it heavily since. (I can probably afford a more recent version but I prefer '97 to all the newer ones.) In any case, it is working like a charm and so is Windows 7.

There is one slight annoyance though. Every time I start Word 97, a little window pops up containing the subject message. All right, I got the message, why keep telling me a zillion times a day? Is there some way to get rid of the pesky message?

Windows Setup Cannot Determine If This Computer Supports Installing This Version Of Windows
I'm running a clean NTFS installation of Vista Business on an HP/Compaq 8510p laptop in a domain environment. When I run Windows 7 Enterprise "Install Now" from DVD the screen will display "setup is copying temporary files" followed by "setup is starting" then a pop up dialog box called "Install Windows" stating "Windows setup cannot determine if this computer supports installing this version of windows" Windows Upgrade Advisor runs clean stating Upgrade available.

The time between the copying screen and starting setup is seconds where-as if I boot into the DVD the copying process takes minutes.I'm performing this as a precursor to company wide upgrade and the outcome will have a major affect on our direction.

Requirements To Use The Upgrade Version Of Windows 7?
I'm thinking of getting the Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit "Upgrade" version. No where do I see any information about how exactly I can do this upgrade and what about my previous Microsoft OS I need to have in order to use it.I want to do a totally clean install of Windows 7 on a Hard Drive. In order to use the "Upgrade" version, what exactly do I need to do to the drive first, like do I have to install and then reactiavate a microsoft OS?Basically I am now using windows 7 Beta RC, and I want to just wipe it out, and do a full reinstall of the "Upgrade" version that I might get.

My computer orginally came with windows xp pro, installed by a OEM computer manufacturer, a smaller custom PC builder type company, ibuypower.com. I still have my install of windows xp pro on another hard drive, and I can probalby find the original reinstall CD that I used to reinstall my windows xp pro a few times on this same computer, however I do not have my CD key in any printed form, (however I might be able to extract it from my old windows xp pro install?)Basicially I'm lookning for information as to how hard it is going to be to actually do a clean install of the "Upgrade" version of Windows 7.

Is Windows 7 A Upgraded Version From Vista ?
I and my boss disagree about the 7 being a upgrade. He says 7 is a upgrade like 95 to 98 and few other previous OS after those. But I says it isn't a upgrade from Vista, and it is has more new features and way above Vista to be consider  Vista SE. Just to diffenert. But I do like Vista, I'm a Vista fan, but everyone else isn't a Vista fan like me at work. They don't care much for Vista.

So please helps us out and be a techinal as possible. I work at a computer repair store (small bussiness) so be as techincal as possible. And let us know who is right.

PS: Was Vista build from stractch from XP or did they make Vista from the very beginning? Same for 7 as well.

NVidia Drivers Through Windows Update: What Version ?
How do I know what the version of the nVidia drivers offered to me through Windows Update?  I'm currently running a beta Windows 7 driver I got directly off of nVidia, 185.n flavor. I would 'assume' that when Windows Update offers me something, it's more up-to-date than what I have, but I'm a bit reluctant to let that install.

Would I be better off using the Windows Update optional driver download presence serve as merely an indicator that there might be a newer driver out on nVidia, and go there for it?

Upgrade License Requires Activated Qualifying Windows Version ?
http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/archives/2009/07/a_major_windows_7_upgrade_question_gets_an_an.html

This states that using an upgrade license will require running from an activated OS. In other words, to install Win7 on a blank drive using an upgrade license, you would need to install a qualifying OS, activate it, and the proceed with the Win7 install. Can anyone confirm this?I'll be disappointed if it's true. It will make installing the OS on a blank hard drive even less convenient than for Vista. One thing makes me believe that it's bogus. According to:

http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Windows-Windows-7/category/102

Windows 2000 qualifies for using an upgrade license of Windows 7. Windows 2000 does not require activation. Newer hardware may lack Win2k drivers, but as long as the installation ran well enough to launch the Win7 upgrade, it seems like it ought to work.

Can Upgrades Be Done Now, Activate Later ?
Have a bunch of machines waiting for the pre-order upgrade disks coming Oct 22. Several posts have said that the RTM is the same installer that will be shipped as upgrade. Is it possible to do the upgrades from XP and Vista now without waiting for the activation, then input it when it arrives shortly?

I started to try this last night and wasn't prompted for any key after starting RTM disk from desktop, selecting custom and selecting partition to install. Is this because the Upgrade disks have special code required for reading the XP/Vista activation when asking for Windows 7 upgrade key?

Also if upgrade can be installed to a different partition, then it seems there is a way to get a completely clean install running the installer from the XP/Vista desktop on HDD and installing to another HDD? I am trying to figure out how to get the cleanest possible install here without overwriting if poss.

Can Upgrades Be Done Now, Activate Later?
I have a bunch of upgrades which need to be done using upgrade pre-order disks arriving after Oct. 22. Several posts have said these are the same disks as the RTM, so I am wondering if there is any reason the upgrades cannot be done now (when I have the time) and keys inserted when they arrive later this month.I tried this last night by starting the RTM disk from an XP desktop, selecting Upgrade which re-directed me to choose Custom, then selected second partition and was going to install but it never asked for the activation as MS specifies will happen at that step.

Is this because there is special code in the Upgrade installer telling it to check XP/Vista activation and then ask for Upgrade's key.?Would appreciate any expertise on this if u have got it. Also, does anyone know if there is a way to get a formatted install with an upgrade by starting the install from the XP/Vista on one drive and installing it to another HDD? MS has said we can install to another partition, so wouldn't a second HDD be viewed as a partition if formatted primary? My goal is to get the cleanest possible install to formatted drive if poss.

What I know for sure is that after I get the Upgrade in and activated, the finished job will be imaged using the great new Windows 7 imaging backup and saved to a primary Recovery Partition and to an external drive in case of HDD failure. So there won't ever need to be another Upgrade done.

How Does The Upgrade Version Verify You Have A Pre-existing Valid Copy Of Windows ?
First, I understand the differences between an in-place upgrade and using upgrade software to do a clean install.  My question is this: if I choose to do a clean install on a brand new hard drive with the Windows 7 upgrade software, how does the installation process verify I have a valid version of XP or Vista? In the past, the installation process asked you to insert your previous version's disc to be scanned, then it proceeded with the install.

Will this still be the case, or will I have to enter my previous version's key code to be verified online, or worse yet install Vista and then install 7 on top of that?  I need a clear answer. There have been a lot of rumors, I'm wondering if anybody knows for sure, since it is impossible to test this scenario from either the beta or RC.

Win 7 Key Not Required For Upgrades?
I've done a lot of Windows 7 upgrades for people and I've noticed that I've never had to enter any kind of key when upgrading a properly activated copy of Vista, I think even during clean installs...

Does it activate automatically or is it just a matter of it waiting a week before yelling at you about it?
