Upgrade From Home Premium / Professional Version To Ultimate Version

does anyone know if in October after retail release when having Windows 7 Home premium or professional installed you'll be able to upgrade to the ultimate version? and if so what the pricing would be from the 2 versions?

Upgrade From Test Version Of Win 7 (ultimate) To Home Premium
Can one upgrade from test version of Windows 7 (ultimate) to Windows Home Premium or do one have to start from scratch? Do I have to buy the professional or ultimate version to be able to run my 32 bit XP applications? I now have a 64 bit CPU.

How To Upgrade OEM Home Premium Or Professional To Ultimate ?
We are going to buy new 64-bit computers. Some vendors, e.g., Costco, offer machines with pre-installed OEM Home Premium or Professional. We got out A31p Thinkpads some years ago with a pre-install and this is not my favorite way to go. Also, I want Ultimate on our new machines.

Use Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade Version DVD To Upgrade WinXP Professional X64 Computer
Can I use Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade version DVDs to upgrade my Windows XP Professional x64 computers?WindowsMarketplace.com says:Microsoft designed Windows 7 Upgrade media for Windows Vista. Customers with Windows XP can purchase Windows 7 Upgrade versions but must back up their files, clean install, and then reinstall their applications.

So if I have to back up my files, clean install, and then reinstall my applications, then what's different from a full install? And what are the differences between Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade versions and Windows 7 Ultimate Full versions then?

Can Win 7 Home Premium Full Version Be Used To Do An In-place Upgrade?
Can Windows 7 Home Premium full version be used to do an in-place upgrade?

I have a new PC with Vista Home Premium that gives me a free upgrade to Windows 7 (but it will still cost 20 euros for p&p). Vista is pre-loaded and the recovery files are on a separate partition on one drive. Worse case scenario is the hard drive dies. I will need the full version of Windows 7 to do a clean install on a new hard drive, but at the moment I would just like to upgrade.

All things considered, I'm thinking of buying the full version while it's half price but need to know if I can use that to just do an upgrade. Is that possible?

Used Evaluation Copy Of Ultimate But Bought Home Version Upgrade
I signed up for the evaluation version of Win7 back and paid for the upgrade (to be downloaded when released) in Aug/Sep and D/L Win7 and was pretty happy with it after solving the problem of shutting down every 10 minutes or so. I finally narrow the problem down to my NEW HP AIO Scanner/Printer - It didn't agree with the Vista drivers. After disconnecting the printer Win7 worked just fine. (HP finally came out with Win7 drivers and now everyone's happy with the arrangement.)

Anyway, when Microsoft notified me that Win7 was released and I could now D/L the released version I did and tried to install it BUT (and here's when I discovered my error in paying attention to details) I paid for Win7 Home and had been using Ultimate. So of course I got the message that "Sorry Charlie, but you can't install Home over Ultimate. So the question - Is there anything I can do besides

1) forking over BIG $$ for Ultimate or

2) Bitting the bullet and reformatting the HD and installing Home from scratch? I think I know the answer but sometimes there's a smart guy or female (can't call them girls any more and calling them ladies gets them riled up too so I'm not sure how to address them any more) that comes up with a clever solution to these kinds of problems.

Using License Key Code For W7 Pro Into Home Premium Version
I have pre-ordered Windows 7 Professional from the internet, but I am going to be getting a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it around the same time.

Can I type in the license key / product code for W7 Pro in to the Home Premium version and will it upgrade it? I need the features of Pro and will only be using it on this laptop, but I don't want to clean install unless I need to.

Upgrade From Vista Home Premium To Win 7 Professional
I have a valid install of Vista Home Premium, and would like to upgrade to Windows 7. I made the mistake of buying the Windows 7 Professional before I noticed this upgrade matrix:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-considerations.aspx

So, apparently, in order for me to upgrade to what I have in my hands (Win 7 Pro), it'll be a doosey (at least for me). But, I found Paul Thurrott's clear instructions on how to do a clean install with an upgrade version of Win 7 (again, I have a valid install of Windows Vista).

So here's my question : Can I perform a clean install with my upgrade package (via Paul's workaround), and keep all my files somehow by using partitions? That is, is there a way to do this install with partitioning instead of backing up everything externally and then restoring (my external drive is having issues)?

More info on my internal drives : My computer has 2 physical hard drives. One contains drive C and D, and the other has E and F. Drive C of course has my Vista OS on it, and most of my programs. Drives D, E, and F have personal data files and some programs on them.

Space available:

-- Drive 1 C: 52 GB
-- Drive 1 D: 365 GB
-- Drive 2 E: 9 GB
-- Drive 2 F: 10 GB

I have relatively little experience upgrading O/S's and playing with partitions. One thought was that I might be able to create a partition on Drive 1, do a clean install of Win 7 Pro on it, and then work on migrating over personal files and programs from the existing partitions on that drive. Would this work? Is there a better solution?

Upgrade From Win 7 Home Premium To Win7 Professional
I'm trying to upgrade from Win7 Home Premium to Win7 Professional on my new machine. I click the Windows Anytime Upgrade icon and get the dialog to "Go online and choose the edition that is right for you" "After your purchase, Windows will upgrade automatically". Well, it rejects every form of payment I've given it, so this is broken.

I call into the Microsoft Store and they have never heard of this path and insist the only way to upgrade is through the postal service (in other words, through the mail). Who can I call or talk to about buying a product key that will be given to me by EMAIL or PHONE? 1-877-696-7786 is absolutely not the right answer to my question.

Upgrade 7 Home Premium To Professional With Product Key Initially Purchased
We have a laptop that currently runs Vista Home Premium.  We purchased Windows 7 Professional and proceeded with a clean install.  After several hours of working with the drivers supplied by the laptop manufacturer (who shall remain nameless) the machine was having significant problems and lost functionality of several components.  So here is the question now that I restored the laptop back to Vista:

If I purchase Windows 7 Home Premium and perform an "upgrade" install (vice the clean install) thereby preserving the drivers and programs, can I then upgrade 7 Home Premium to Professional with the product key I initially purchased?  From reading the Windows 7 site, I know I can upgrade Home Premium to Professional via the Anytime Upgrade function, but I was not able to find any information on performing the same upgrade using my previously purchased product key.

File Version Error On Installing From Vista Home Premium X64 To Win 7 X64
I get this error message when I try to install Windows 7 x64 on my Vista Home Premium x64 HP9340F machine from within Vista x64:The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running.  Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

I can install the x32 version of Windows 7 fine, but I need to use drivers from my x64 Vista ie. IR Transceiver for Windows Media center.  I would imagine the Vista x64 drivers might work with the x64 Windows 7 where they do not work with the x32 Windows 7.

I'm not sure I'm making sense to anyone but me, sorry.  If you have any ideas drop me a bone.  I didn't try the Windows 7 x64 install from a boot, maybe that would have worked?

Upgrade Path From Localized Version Of Vista To MSDNAA EN US Version Of Win7
I'm running an OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium, and since I'm a class B netizen I only had access to a localized version of my operative system. The MSDNAA graciously makes a copy of Windows 7 Professional English and a copy of Windows 7 Multilanguage Pack available to me. Howerer there is no localized version of the former and no WinVista equivalent of the latter. The Windows installer aborts pointing out the localization conflict and links me to this unhelpful page.

My OEM seems to have disabled the option of using Windows Anytime Upgrade, so I will not pour money into this option just to get the option to relocalize my OS to English 'just in case'. Also, I would really rather not lose a week into driver scavenging, clicking through programs installers, staring at progress bars getting filled (multiple times). I'd really want to just upgrade. Is this a dead end? Do I have to cross my fingers and wait for Godot err a localized version of Win7 to appear on MSDNAA? Or is there a way around this?

Upgrade From Vista Home Premium To Win 7 Ultimate
I have Vista Home Premium  and am trying to upgrade to windows 7 ultimate. all the charts say this is possible. I originally bought Pro but i saw your chartys this  and got Ultimate but when i attempt to upgrade...the screen says this isn't possible..i need to do a full install. I think this is not very good and if I want support I have to pay for it. What about the software I already got? Why won't it let me upgrade?

Report:Windows Vista™ Home Premium cannot be upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. You can choose to install a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate  instead, but this is different from an upgrade, and does not keep your files, settings, and programs. You’ll need to reinstall any programs using the original installation discs or files. To save your files before installing Windows, back them up to an external location such as a CD, DVD, or external hard drive.

To install a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate , click the Back button in the upper left-hand corner, and select “Custom (advanced)”. I should note: this is a fairly new Pc (3-4 months) that came with Vista Home Premium . I am not happy with it and debated to drop back to XP but had already installed everything (other software). So, i decided to upgrade to 7 but now find i have to go through the same process.

In-place Upgrade To 32-bit Win 7 Home Premium Or Ultimate
I currently have vista 32 bit home premium and wish I had vista ultimate. I want to purchase windows 7 ultimate UPGRADE. I checked around and there does not seem to be a definitive answer on the issue. I downloaded windows 7 upgrade advisor and found that it reports that you can in-fact upgrade to windows 7 ultimate form home premium. Before I purchase though, does anyone know if this is correct?

I do not wanna be out 200 dollars. The exact text used by the upgrade advisor is below. "You can do an in-place upgrade to 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate. If you choose to upgrade to a different edition you will need to perform a clean installation. Go online to see detailed instructions about how to upgrade."

Upgrade From Win 7 Home Premium To Win 7 Professional
I have bought a new HP laptop bundled with windows 7 home premium. I also bought the upgrade for the windows 7 Professional. As per instructions, i backed up the laptop then run the Windows Anytime Upgrade service, entered the upgrade key and sat back in excitement. Two and a half hours later the laptop is still on the "Preparing to configure Windows- Do not turn off your computer." screen. Is this an expected and acceptable time frame for a brand new machine to run this upgrade? I have to admit i was not expecting this to take as long. i did read somewhere that an upgrade from Vista to 7 could take 1-2 hours.

Install Home Premium On Laptop And Professional On Pc
I have a little while ago build up my pc,

and bought a new system development package of win. vista home premium 64 bit.

with in my foresight i had the new 7 totally for free.

Then i got my win 7 home premium, formatted my system and installed the upgrade just fine as a clean installation.

But in home premium are some features you have in the ultimate or professional version disabled, and some of these features i just want to use.

now i do the education on school for IT, and my school has given me a msdnaa account.

Now on that msndnaa account where i can download windows 7 professional.

My question is:

Now i want to install the home premium on my laptop, and the on my pc

can i install the home premium which is of course already activated on my pc, can i install it on my laptop. i don't need a explanation of how i install a os, cause i already know such things.

Install Win 7 Home Premium Over Vista Home Premium Upgrade Edition
I installed a full version of Win 7 Home Premium, but discovered that my computer (Dell XPS 410) will not provide BIOS updates for Win 7.  One apparent result is that several HDs are not recognizable or usable in Win 7.  I would like to reinstall Windows Vista Home Premium (apparently the upgrade version) from its CD over the Win 7, at least until I can back up the inaccessible HDs.  If possible, please send step-by-step instructions.
