Upgrade From Vista On HP Pavillion PC Dv9000 - Crashes

I've upgraded my HP pavillion dv9000 from Vista to Win 7 Home Premium.   The upgrade appeared to go smoothly, however I now have a number of problems. The first is that it crashes mutiple times per day, usually when no one has been at the machine for hours, I return to find it shut down, when I boot it, it nicely tells me it crashed and asks if it should search for a solution, but never finds anything.  The second is that I frequently loose connectivity to other machines and NAS devices on my network.

When I reboot, I can access both NAS devices and my other PC on the network,  at some point along the way, I can no longer access the other PC or one of the two NAS devices (always the same NAS device.) In the Windows Explorer, I can see the other PC and both NAS devices, but when I try to open them, it hangs.

The other PC can still see both NAS devices as can other devices on my network.Lastly, I can see the printer that is shared from my other PC, but when I send something to the printer, it appears to send correctly, and if look at the printer from the control panel, it tells me it sent a page, but if I open the window for the printer, it shows no documents.

Suspect this one is a driver error and couldn't find any win7 drivers for the HP OfficeJet G85. Couldn't find any new win7 drivers for the HP9000 anywhere on the HP site, but I did run the win7 upgrade advisor which said everything would be fine. I was really hoping win 7 was going to get me past 2 years of frustration with vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I wipe the machine clean and break out my XP install disks.

HP Pavillion Dv9000 Overheating
I have been using Windows 7 RC 32-bit from the time it was released. I had no issue with the bits. But as soon as I installed the RTM, this time, with 64-bit, my laptop is heating up so soon and fast. The fan is going full-speed but it cannot keep up with the heat. Now it is shutting down at random. Have you had any reports having similar problems like mine? Is there a solution for this?

I hate to go back to 32-bit.

HP Pavillion, Performance Lower Than Vista
a few days ago, I formatted my HP pavillion dv6870ej laptop (core 2 duo 2.8, 3GB, SATA 320GB drive, Nvidia 8400M)

it came with vista and performance was really good.

I installed win 7 rc (I need it to be a legit copy, and the 1-year evaluation offer wins my attention)

I updated all drivers and ran a radersync..

I was expecting a slimmer, faster OS.

but Win 7, while acceptable still feels a little behind vista, most notable is the application launch time, office 2007 word or excel takes about twice the time to launch on Windows 7 than on vista.

GUI also feels a little bit slow, while still responsive it does not have the screaming fast feeling I had with vista.

my WEI scores are 5.1 - 5.8 in all categories, except for display , aero graphics is 2.2 (!!!), and gaming graphics is 5.1

could any of you point me to what could be wrong ? what can't I see the performance boost and why is it slower than vista ?

Upgrade On HP Pavillion M9000
I installed the Windows 7 RC as an upgrade to my Vista Home Premium. I have an HP Pavillion M9000.  The installation went with no problems. When I log in Win 7 starts normally, you see the desktop as it loads the icons, the log in screen for gmail shows, then a blue screen appears, but so quickly you can't see what it says. Then the computer reboots. I start the computer in safe mode with networking and everything starts fine. Where should I start looking for what is causing the problem?

Upgrade To 64 Bit Win 7 On HP Pavillion DV6500
I have an HP Pavillion DV6500 laptop that came pre installed with 32bit Vista.

Right now I am using Windows 7 Evaluation Copy Build 7100 32bit.

I'm wondering if there's any way to upgrade to 64bit windows 7 when the upgrade disc comes out in October or even now.

I don't mind having to reformat the hard drive.

Can I possibly reformat the hard drive now and install a fresh copy of windows 7 rc 64bit?

I tried talking to HP support about this, but they wouldn't give me a direct answer to any question.

They wouldn't even tell me if my laptop could support 64bit. (I did some research, and I think it can.)

HP M9340f Pavillion Elite Desktop Upgrade Win 7 Black Screen
I have an HP m9340f pavillion Elite desktop with 6 gb memory, lots of HD space and (had) Vista home premium (x64). I followed instructions from both this site and HP and ran the Win 7 ultimate disk ..choosing upgrade as I did not want to have to reinstall all programs, printers, scanners etc.

Everything seemed to go okay...computer shut down and turned back on, but had nothing there but a black (maybe dark navy blue) screen. Well over an hour went by and nothing, so I rebooted..then I was asked which to choose and I chose safe mode with networking..windows logo came up with the message that "setup is preparing computer for first use" and I waited and waited and waited.

A good hour or more went by and then it was just a black screen.. that was it. So, I rebooted again and this time said "normal start"..so here i am waiting and waiting and up comes just the black screen.I can see my mouse pointer, but that's it. Look like there is no windows on there at all.

Samsung Vista GDI Driver Install Crashes
I have a nice Samsung ML4500. Not that new, but then I don't use my printer very much. But it is useful at times. So... I have the Vista ML4500 GDI driver installation package for it. I run it by right clicking in compatibility mode.I've done this three times now. The first two times, it crashed my machine dead as soon as the Samsung splash screen appeared.

Video broke up, screen blanked and then only a hard reset fixed it.Third time, despite same compatibility mode operation, the Samsung installer just tells me that the driver is incompatible with this version of windows.

Unfortunately, since it's a prepacked installation in an exe file, I can't get at any of the real files, inf, sys etc to see if I can by pass the installer's front end.I've also tried the Vista GDI drivers for other similiar models, which give me similar results. If anyone has any ideas on how to resolve this, other than approaching Samsung which I think is likely to prove unproductive, I'd love to hear from them!

Edit: now, from another post, realised how I can unpack the driver set from the installer. I've done this, but the raw setup.exe still crashes win 7...  I've now also tried the right click on the inf file in the Vista 64 subdir of the install package, but it tells me this method of installation is unsupported.

System Crashes At Restart During Last Stage Of Upgrade
I have tried to upgrade 3 times and same happened: system crashed into blue screen after second restart during the final stage of the install process (installing applications, setting up system) somewhere around 65%. After this the system restarts again and indicates an upgrade failure, sets back Vista.

I have an Acer 3810T notebook with pre-installed Windows Vista Home Premium, two months old. Used official Windows 7 upgrade kit provided by Acer / Mentor Media. Ran Upgrade Advisor, but it indicated no problem or uncompatibility. Still I have uninstalled most of the programmes between the attempts.

HP Pavilion Dv9000 Laptop Driver For Base System Device

If I get the properties of these devices under the general tab I see Device type: Other device, Manufacturer: Unknown, and Location: PCI bus 9, device 9, function 3.

EXPLORER.EXE Crashes, MMC.EXE Crashes, Moviemaker.exe Error
I want to love Win7 so badly, but this is just crazy. I'm about to go back to good old XP, simply for the stability. I'm about fed up with Windows 7 after only using it for two weeks. Off of a brand new and formatted clean install, with only Norton NIS 2010, Itunes, Adobe Reader, and Firefox 3.5.7 installed, I get constant explorer.exe crashes.

Shortly followed by an mmc.exe crash, then it just gets caught up in a never-ending explorer.exe crash that only a reboot resolves, for a short time. All drivers are up to date, and all Win 7 updates have been applied.

I've even formatted and re-installed Win7 only to have explorer begin crashing a day later. This is all on a stock Dell Inspiron 545 quad core, 8GB RAM, etc. I'm very tech savvy and am about jump off of the Win 7 bandwagon. Maybe the Apple Mac commercials are correct, another fumbled attempt at a stable OS from Microsoft?

After extensive reading, it appears that many others are suffering through this ____ also. Some get it while attempting to right click any icon, some when launching apps, some, like me , for no apparent reason at all. I don't ever get the BSOD, but the computer is essentially non-functional due to explorer restarting all the time.

I've done a ton of reading and have tried sfc /scannow, which found no errors. I've tried shellexview, to no avail for the context handlers. I've uninstalled and re-installed all non-MS apps. I've tried everything that I've read, and it eventually starts crashing again. It is very random, and I can find no patterns that cause the explorer crashing.

It works for two days, then goes haywire. Sometimes it only works for an hour before the explorer crashes begin. And yes, this is a fully licensed and legal copy of Win 7 Pro that I purchased through CDW. A side note, this computer ran WIN XP perfectly. All hardware has been tested and is perfect. If anyone has found a fix for this issue, then please chime in! Below are the errors that populate the Event Viewer:

Activation context generation failed for "c:program files (x86)windows livephoto galleryMovieMaker.Exe".Error in manifest or policy file "c:program files (x86)windows livephoto galleryWLMFDS.DLL" on line 8. Install On HP PAVILLION LAPTOPS
10 days before i purchase a new hp laptop with core 2 duo processor, 4 gb ram, 512 mb video card , 320 gb har disk  with windows 7 by default installed in it. but i also want windows xp in ma system for my work. because some softwares are not compatible with windows 7 like .net,oracle etc. so i have to use xp also.

but when i called hp technical center they tell me that there is no option or no way to install xp on hp laptops because their hardware does nt support xp, and they said me that if i forcibly try to install xp then might be hardware will corrupt. then i se this virtual pc concept. here as one tool is given on Microsoft site to check that whether our pc supports virtualization or not .

and then i download tht tool and instaall it. it gives error " YOUR HARDWARE OR PROCESSOR DOES NOT SUPPORT HARDWARE VIRTUALIZATION " something like that. how to install this virtual pc if i havng problem like that? i also go to bios option to enable the hardware virtualization but there i see there is no such option of enabling and disabling.

No Sound HP Pavillion DV1000

If there isn't a driver, I can of course get a USB or Express card sound card, right?

Hp Pavillion Dv5000 Problems
So I just installed windows 7 recently on my sisters HP pavillion dv5000

There are a number of problems. First the keyboard is wack. After I type a few words it'll jump to a middle of a sentence before or 2 words before and start from there as I type. like I'll write hey how are you and it goes between h and ow and starts the cursor all the way over there or it'll be gone and start no where. and it'll go to the post button or something.

Another issue but not as big is the fact that there is a mute button if you are familiar with the HP pavillion DV5000 and when you press it the light goes on, if you turn on the mute. This always happens. It happened when I still use windows XP, now that I changed it to windows 7 however it no longer works. If I press mute or even if I don't the button is not turned on.

Any one can help? ESPECIALLY with the wacky keyboard situation. I can't type anything without it going back midway and start to type out of the wrong section of it.

Sound Issue: whenever I hibernate then restore windows the sound is gone! I cannot get it back unless I restart my PC.

HP Pavillion 751 Issues
I have an old HP Pavillion 751 desktop with a P4 2Ghz. I put a new AGP vid card in and loaded Windows 7 32bit. The OS loaded fine, but the system will not boot at all. It's just a reboot loop. I cannot get Windows 7 to even display on the screen for half second to press F8. I tried doing a startup repair also, but it will not boot. I then tried to load Vista...same exact result. I had XP running fine on here. The HD and RAM are good, no issues there. What is the reason this system will not run with either Vista or 7, even with a brand new 'aero' compatible video card?
