Upgrade Fails During Migration
I've tried four times, on a standard x200t, from windows vista business, with windows 7 upgrade advisor all green.But each time it will rollback when the migration reaches 63% (or 66% sometimes).
All the setuperr.log are all the same, like this:2009-11-03 00:51:52,
Error Number of Enumerated Devices = 15[gle=0x00000103]2009-11-03 00:51:53,
Error Failed to find driver file path.
Error code is [0x1]2009-11-03 03:37:47, Warning UI Progress text [Transferring files, settings, and programs (467530 of 618125 transferred)] does no fit in the Window. Error code is [0x1]I've tried all the suggestions I could find, no help. Removed all fishy applications, no help.Any one knows how to get windows 7 upgrade done?UPDATE: my laptop's keyboard and the red point are not usable after the lastest rollback.

Upgrade Fails At 66%
I want to test out W7 so badly but I can't get the install to get past 66% in it's final phase. I am upgrading from Vista Ultimate 64bit and I do have a 9800GTX - Once it hits 66% an error box pops up and my Vista gets rolled back. So the good news is the rollback feature is working like I charm! I've done 8 failed installs over the last few weeks and it rolls back perfectly. Things I Have Done: 1: Searched every service of the Internet for a solution. Haven't found a solid one yet. 2: Downloaded and burned (at the slowest speed) a freshly downloaded RC to see if maybe the first one I got was bad. 3: Took out my 9800GTX, uninstalled the drivers, used on-board video to try and finish the install. 4: Tried the new beta drivers from NViDIA currently on their site. Every single attempt the Upgrade fails in the exact same way. Now I have seen alot of suggestions of work around. Well not a lot actually, or else I wouldn't be posting here. Most of them were some crazy things that I had no clue what they were talking about. So I am coming to you genious computer gurus over here at the MS TechNet forums for hopefully a solution - From what I read there are an over-abundance of people that are having this issue and therefore cannot experience W7. In plain English (read: I'm not a computer guru by any means, so I can't translate some of the more advanced computer lingo) is there a way to finally install W7 on my machine?

Upgrade From Vista Fails
I'm upgrading from Vista SP1 (which was actually upgraded from XP a year ago) to Windows 7 RTM and after 4 hours the install fails with the message "This version of Windows could not be installed, Your previous version of Windows has been restored, and you can continue to use it." I tracked down the error logs and here's the log at C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther http://pastebin.com/f3b6b795a Unless someone can decipher all this I'll just wait until I can get a new hard drive and do a clean install.

Upgrade fails - different language version Started from Vista Business SP1, HUNGARIAN, Action pack I new that the non-English language version disables the upgrade So I have upgraded to Ultimate (Action pack)And then I have downloaded and installed English MUI Changed display language to English Upgrade still not working "In order to upgrade, you need a Windows installation disc that uses the same language as the language installed on your computer."So how can I upgrade?

Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade Fails
As a retail IT professional, I recieved my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate today. I tried twice to install to no avail.  The first time it hung it hung right after the reboot, at 21% expanding files. The second time it went a little farther. Both times (I think, for sure it was the second time)  the message was that it could not write to the registry.  The install cancels and reverts the system back to Vista. Facts:Compatibility Check Checked OK Current OP System - Windows Vista Ultimate Hardware HP Pavilion dv9000 Processor, AMD Atholon(tm) 64x2 Dual-Core Processor TK-57(Not many programs on a fairly clean install of Vista) IE, MS Office, Photoshop and a few chat programs Signed on as Administrator when starting the install Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Upgrade Fails And Rolls Back To Vista
I am currently trying to upgrade from vista SP2 x64 ultimate to windows 7 RTM 64bit Ultimate. However after the first reboot it at around 20-24% it fails and rollsback to my Vista install. I have checked the install source and running from an MS. A custom install is not an option for me. I also ran check disck to no avail. My setuperr.log is empty but my setupact.log isn't. I have tried the same thing on my laptop which works fine and has no problems.

Upgrade From Vista Home Premium Fails
I purchased a student edition of Windows 7 and downloaded it from the Microsoft website. I attempted to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 last night, but received an error message just after the first time my computer rebooted during the installation (during the third phase, called 'Expanding Windows files' at approximately 21%). I checked the error log and found that the setup had failed to find a file. I attempted the installation this morning and it failed again at the same place, though this time the error log is empty. The compatibility advisor finds no problems with my computer upgrading to Windows 7. I'd appreciate any help you could give me. Edit: attempted installation a third time; it gave me the same error as last time. Upgrade Fails At Expanding Files Point
Just as in previous post on this problem, system then fails to restart "Windows 7 Setup", with error: ".....winload.exe" missing or corrupted. The file is in the expected location in the temp W7 file setup location. I followed the instructions to reboot to DVD, chose "Repair" on the "Setup" OS choice, it reports unable to repair. Have done all other expected things: complete chkdsk, no av running, etc, and have tried four times now with exactly same results. Obviously, there is some issue. Using Vista Ultimate (6002 SP2). Have updated BIOS, Motherboard drivers, Intel chipset drivers, the whole kit and kaboodle, and it is still no go.

32bit To 64bit Drive Migration
I performed a clean installation of 32bit Windows 7 Beta over a 32 bit Windows XP Professional system. I am downloading the 64bit version of Windows 7 Beta and would like to install it.I have two hard drives in the system. All space on all drives was written by a 32 bit OS, XP Pro. On the first drive, 160GB, I have a partition that is 20GB where the new 32bit OS, Win 7 Beta resides. The second drive is 130GB.What happens if I install 64 bit Windows 7 Beta on the system in the 20GB partition?Are the 32bit drives/partitions going to be visible? Will 64bit and 32bit files reside next to each other on the same 32bit drive in the same file system? Will the new files be readable by a 32bit OS? Is there any way to migrate the data to the 64bit OS without first moving the data to DVDs? Once I access the drives with the 64bit OS will they then become unreadable by 32bit, XP Pro or Windows 7 Beta?

Mobile Device Center Fails After Vista Upgrade
I have installed Windows 7 on 3 computers. One installation was a "clean install". It works fine. Two installations were upgrades from Vista. For both of these installations, any attempt to launch Windows Mobile Device Center yields a "Windows Mobile Device Center has stopped working" error message. Has anyone else encountered this? Any suggestions for a fix?

USMT 4.0 Printer Migration XP To Win7 Failure
I have performed profile migration using USMT 4.0 from an XP machine to another machine running Windows Vista and successfully performed the task. However, when i performed the same onto a Windows 7 machine network printers did not migrate. PFB the config.xml file I have modified as per our requirements. Please suggest a solution ASAP as there is an urgent requirement.

Migration From Winxp To Win 7 With MDT 2010 RC
Migration from Windows XP to Windows 7 with MDT 2010 RC doesn't migrate Office Settings, Wallpaper and network printers. I have been usin MDT 2010 RC to create a Windows 7 image. When performing a Refresh from a running Windows XP, it installs fine, migrates documents, desktop files and favorites just fine, but custom wallpapers, network printers and for example AutoText in Office (2003 to 2007) does not get migrated.Aren't these settings supposed to get migrated?

Upgrade From Vista SP2 To Win 7 Home Premium Fails
Completed upgrade on first DELL Inspiron after several attemps and many hours.  Second DELL Inspiron 1705 Vista SP2 I have wasted many hours. When I insert the disk into the DVD there's activity which looks like a decompress.  There's no SETUP screen. After an hour the process completes but no SETUP screen.  If I try to access the DVD the process starts over. If I boot with the disk in the DVD the process starts again but the initialization of VISTA is delayed. The BIOS has been updated. I have uninstalled McAfee, PCTools, iTunes, QuickTime and Real Player. With all the problems recorded in this forum, I'm reluctant to proceed.  I do not want to be in the position wher I have to reinstall VISTA.

Error: Migration Plugins Host Program Has Stopped Working
Durring an Upgrade install from Vista Ultimate x64 to To windows 7 x64 I get an error dialog that says "Migration plugins host program has stopped working". If I continue the installation it runs until it gets to the final step of "Converting files, plugins, and programs" where it gets to 40% complete them hangs forever. Any ideas?

XP To Win7 Migration Tool (Easy Transfer) Error Message
When attempting to use the Easy Transfer tool I get the following message repeatedly during the save portion of the process and and nothing gets saved to the external HDD. I am using the migration tools on the beta CD. Does anyone have any thoughts on what is causing this and how to stomp on it? "Your request cannot be completed because the Windows Live ID service could not be found or did not respond. The service might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your network settings.

64-bit Upgrade Fails - Blue Screen Of Death Then Reverts Back To VISTA
I am trying to upgrade my VISTA 64-bit utlimate to Windows 7 64-bit ultimate, and at the last stage of installing settings and device drivers a BSOD appears and then it reverts back to my previous OS. After the re-boot my RAID 1 states my raid needs a verify and when vista has booted the raid starts to be repaired. This takes about 4 hours, but I can still use my files. I have tried to search for similar problems but to no avail! Can anyone help? Has anyone had the same problem!Is it worth upgrading to Windows 7! I am happy with VISTA and it seems a lot of hassle!

Upgrade Install Fails, Clean Install Is Fine - Same Hardware
When I try to do an upgrade install (from Vista Ultimate SP1 32-bit) it always fails toward the end of "migrating files, settings and programs" at about the 57% mark. The program says that it needs to reboot.The screen goes blank and it looks like it is rebooting, however the PC just sits there, the monitor goes to sleep (no video - either analog or DVI) so there is apparently not even a BIOS screen. There is no drive activity, yet the PC is still powered on. If I power off and on (or use the reset button), Windows 7 starts to load but eventually blue screens with the STOP error 0x0000007B, followed by (0x80598B68, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I know that the first error code usually refers to an inacessible boot disc. After several tries, it lets me boot, but just tells me that the install failed and is rolling back to Vista, which it does (rather well, I must say).However, if I do a "clean" install (whether or not choose to let Windows 7 wipe out the existing Vista partition), the install completes flawlessly.Apparently, Windows 7 is having problems migrating something (perhaps drivers?) from the existing Vista installation, but I don't know what. I've tried uninstalling a few various programs and hardware devices and their associated drives to no avail. Luckily, all of this testing is on a cloned drive, so no permanant damage.The hardware is exactly the same whether I do the upgrade or clean install. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas.Â

X64 Vista Ultimate To Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade Fails
I addressed all compatibility issues by uninstalling the software that it didn't like and downloaded the 3gig 64bit upgrade ISO. After it ran for a few hours and moved to what appeared to be the final stages - it rebooted. I found the screen hung right after the spinning MS logo displaying "starting windows" (or similar verbage). I gave it some time... moved the mouse, pressed spacebar, unplugged an external drive, and nothing made the silent HDD act up. Left with no other choice I killed it and rebooted. When it got to the same place it paused... but then informed me the upgrade was not successful, previous version of windows being restored, do not restart.Any advice on where to start here?

Build 7057 X64 Upgrade From 7048 X64 Fails ?
Can someone confirm that it's a general problem or have I just got a bad D/L. If I try and UPGRADE from Windows 7 build 7048 X-64 to Build 7057 X-64 it starts OK but after a while (during the expanding files stage) I get error -- some necessary files for installation cannot be copied ?? Clean install seem to wok. HA1 and checksums of my iso seem correct. Actually upgrading from a beta to another beta is not a goood idea anyway but I want to make sure that I haven't got a bad D/L before I try an upgrade from a Vista installation.

Vista X64 To Win 7 X64 Upgrade Fails
I have tried upgrading my Vista Hope Premium X64 system to Windows 7 Home Premium X64 system many times in the past few days and I am having a problem with the process aborting. I am running an Acer Aspire x1200 with 4GB of ram. System is running fine on Vista but I wanted to upgrade my home network with Windows 7 for ease of use. I have run the Upgrade Advisor and the only thing it flags is the NVIDIA nForce System Management Controller with a status of Unknown and "We don't have compatibility information about this device". I have checked and the driver is up to date. When I run the migration, I run in an update mode. It runs for about 4 hours. When it gets to the "Transferring files, settings, and programs (62%)" point, it sits there for about an hour while it moves thousands of Sun cache files. This appears to finish normally. I then get a screen that says "Setup will continue after restarting your computer". I then get the Windows Logo screen. The next screen says "Setup is starting services". Next, the process continues with the "Transferring files, settings, and programs" at the (63%) point which seems to indicate that things are going forward. Next comes the BSOD. "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. The technical information on the screen: *** STOP: 0x0000003B (0x00000000C000001D, 0xFFFFF88006277D30, 0xFFFFF880054C5EC0, 0x0000000000000000) . It then states that it is collecting data for a crash dump. At this point, to MS credit, the process rolls back to my Vista system and I am able to have my system back in an operational manner. I have disconnected all of my USB devices except for my wireless mouse. I ran scans to get rid of any spybots and ad-bots before I started the migration. I turned my McAfee security software off before starting the migration. I have the latest Vista updates applied. All of my other software is up to date.

Outlook 2003 On XP Migration To New Computer With Outlook 2007
I have an older laptop running XP and Office 2003. I just bought a new laptop running Windows 7 and will install Office 2007 (with Outlook) on it. I have searched the site and haven't found anything specific to this type of migration. I want all Outlook data to migrate. Will Outlook 2007 automatically recognize Outlook 2003 files? Can I just use the migration utility in accessories / system tools?

Install Freeze / Fails
i install the windows 7 (windows vista fails with same sympthoms), installation freeze and computer dont do anything. if i press power or reboot button, computer dont do anything. last way to reboot computer is unplug it from electricity. by the way, the bios says that temperature on cpu is 18c, but temperature in room is 25-27. on full load temperature up to 20. maybe problem with bios?

Explorer Fails After Screensaver
If I let my laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-FW139E) sit for long enough that the screen saver turns on while the lid is closed, when I open it I can see my desktop wallpaper, and my mouse pointer, but nothing else. It is impervious to mouse or keyboard input, Ctrl+Alt+Del included, and I have to do a hard reboot to get back to work again. Also, Internet Explorer is WAY less responsive since I upgraded from Vista, but that's most likely unrelated. I just wanted to complain about it. Any ideas?
