Upgrade Fails At Expanding Files Point

Just as in previous post on this problem, system then fails to restart "Windows 7 Setup", with error: ".....winload.exe" missing or corrupted. The file is in the expected location in the temp W7 file setup location. I followed the instructions to reboot to DVD, chose "Repair" on the "Setup" OS choice, it reports unable to repair.

Have done all other expected things: complete chkdsk, no av running, etc, and have tried four times now with exactly same results. Obviously, there is some issue. Using Vista Ultimate (6002 SP2). Have updated BIOS, Motherboard drivers, Intel chipset drivers, the whole kit and kaboodle, and it is still no go.

Install Freezes On 0% Of Expanding Windows Files
I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my mom's laptop. I got to the custom install and I selected the HDD. I pressed the button for additional options and clicked format. After about 4-5 seconds it said it has been formated (although it seemed a little bit too quickly for me) and I continued to install. It gets to the install screen and shows "Copying Windows Files 0%...". It quickly and somehow, without showing 100% done "skips" the step giving it a tick and moves to expanding the files. Expanding stays on 0% and nothing else. No indication of the DVD reading, no indication of the HDD writing. It just stays like that and...

NOTHING!!! This Windows 7 is from a torrent and the exact same edition is running on my PC, installed just fine. I tried several other CD's and on one of them it just got to the second restart and IT DIDN'T REBOOT! Even after waiting about 10 minutes it just did nothing. I restarted the laptop manually and then the install started from the beginning... Got any ideas what to do??? Please help, this is very VERY important!!!

Win 7 Install Freezes During Expanding Files
I have the same problem as some other people have experienced with the Win7 beta, system hanging in the expanding files state. Note, there is no error message or BSOD, it just hangs. Mouse doesn't move and the ... animation freezes, and dvd drive accessing stops. Only way out is to reset the machine.

This happens on various different percentages (0, 12, 85 etc.), but happens without a fail. I have tested my ram, tried with both 32bit and 64bit betas, burned with different applications on different speeds, nothing helps.

Installation Extremely Slow - Hangs On Expanding Files
I'm trying to get 7 to install and I'm having a bear of a time.  It has taken a tremendously long time to cycle through the steps and after a little more than an hour, it was only at 6% of Expanding Windows Files.

I've taken a stick of RAM out bringing me down to 2gb, have tried three burns (one at the slowest speed and verified), neither has helped.

Install Hangs At Expanding Files 36% With Blue Screen Of Death
I am trying to install Windows 7 32-bit on my XP machine.  I know you can't upgrade so I'm trying to install on my other HD that I have reformatted.  I have tried booting to disc with my XP HD disabled and just running my clean HD and also trying running the Windows 7 setup from within XP, saving file to the reformatted HD.  Both ways I am getting stuck at Expanding files 36%.

It will hang there for awhile and then goes to the blue screen of death.  I'm trying to do this install on a old Dell Dimesnsion 4600 (upgraded memory) so i'm not sure if thats why i'm getting this error.  Please if anyone has any ideas, I don't know how many more times I can take trying to install this.

Installation Freezes On "Expanding Windows Files"
I am trying to install Windows 7, but system installation hangs on stage "Expanding files". Ok, i downloaded ISO four times, 64 and 32 bit. I have burned ISOs several times on DVDs with different programs, on different speed (last one on 2.5x). I have cleaned up whole my HDD and created a big partition for Windows. No result.

It's hanging all the time on "Expanding files", sometimes on 0% or up to 20%. I have reset my BIOS to default. Still no. Then i took out one of two my RAM modules. No result. My specs:Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 1.86 GHzFoxconn P9657AA motherboard4 GB RAM (2x2)Geforce 8800 GTSSamsung HDD 320 GBPlease, give me an advice, why Windows 7 can't be installed on my PC?UPDATE:Updating a BIOS solves the problem.

Win 7 Setup Freezes At "Expanding Files"
I have a HP Pavilion a1748x desktop PC that originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium preinstalled.

Product specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00841366&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3352647Motherboard specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00757531&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3352647

The BIOS is updated to the latest available version.I installed a second SATA hard drive and cannot complete a successful Windows 7 or a Windows Vista "clean installation".Setup always freezes at "expanding files".

Sometimes I get an immediate blue screen, other times the computerjust reboots. I have no hardware peripherals attached to the PC other than the monitor, keyboard and mouse.  The BIOS settings are correct.I have tried different video cards and even tried the onboard NVIDIA video - same result.

I have performed numerous extendedmemory testing of the installed RAM modules and all tests pass with no errors.I have replaced the CPU, PSU, RAM, DVD Drive and all internal cables.  Still, I cannot get passed the "Expanding Files" phase during setup.A have tried different brands of DVD discs also and burned at the lowest speed with no errors reported.

I have also tried a MSDN Windows Vistadisc and still the same result. Now, the strange thing is I can install Windows XP with no problems!  Why can I not now install Windows Vista or Windows 7?I have tried upgrading from Windows XP to Windows Vista - same installation failure.

I even tried to install Vista or Windows 7using the "flat installation" technique described in KB928902.

See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928902

I'm looking for some ideas as to why neither Vista or Windows 7 will not successfully "expand files" during installation.

Upgrade Install Of W7x86 Fails And W7x64 Fails To Clean Install
Clean installing Windows 7 x86 is no problem. But

1) upgrading Vista x86 to Windows 7 x86 fails and automatically rolls back to Vista, and

2) attempt to clean install Windows 7 x64 results in BSOD when rebooting to finalize the process.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Copying Files Over Network To Home Server Slow / Fails
I have Win7 RC installed on my media center PC (MCE) and I have a Home Server, (WHS) both with 1Gbs NICs.When I try to copy large files using the MCE to the WHS it starts well, but it sudently stops and fails. other times however, works but it is very slow. On the other hand, if I login to WHS and copy from there, it works fine, using around 40% of the network bandwidth.

If I copy between 2 Win7 machines (using my laptop) it work great with a fantastic performance.I've also used IOMeter between the two machines (MCE and WHS), and I can get continuous traffic between the 2 PCs with 80% usage of the bandwidth. I've tested using a crosscable, and the symptoms remain. I'm running out of ideas. Any hints/suggestions?

Upgrade Fails At 66%
I want to test out W7 so badly but I can't get the install to get past 66% in it's final phase.

I am upgrading from Vista Ultimate 64bit and I do have a 9800GTX - Once it hits 66% an error box pops up and my Vista gets rolled back.

So the good news is the rollback feature is working like I charm! I've done 8 failed installs over the last few weeks and it rolls back perfectly.

Things I Have Done:

1: Searched every service of the Internet for a solution. Haven't found a solid one yet.

2: Downloaded and burned (at the slowest speed) a freshly downloaded RC to see if maybe the first one I got was bad.

3: Took out my 9800GTX, uninstalled the drivers, used on-board video to try and finish the install.

4: Tried the new beta drivers from NViDIA currently on their site.

Every single attempt the Upgrade fails in the exact same way. Now I have seen alot of suggestions of work around. Well not a lot actually, or else I wouldn't be posting here. Most of them were some crazy things that I had no clue what they were talking about.

So I am coming to you genious computer gurus over here at the MS TechNet forums for hopefully a solution - From what I read there are an over-abundance of people that are having this issue and therefore cannot experience W7.

In plain English (read: I'm not a computer guru by any means, so I can't translate some of the more advanced computer lingo) is there a way to finally install W7 on my machine?

Upgrade From Vista Fails
I'm upgrading from Vista SP1 (which was actually upgraded from XP a year ago) to Windows 7 RTM and after 4 hours the install fails with the message "This version of Windows could not be installed, Your previous version of Windows has been restored, and you can continue to use it."

I tracked down the error logs and here's the log at C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther

http://pastebin.com/f3b6b795a

Unless someone can decipher all this I'll just wait until I can get a new hard drive and do a clean install.

Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade Fails
As a retail IT professional, I recieved my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate today. I tried twice to install to no avail.   The first time it hung it hung right after the reboot, at 21% expanding files.  The second time it went a little farther.  Both times (I think, for sure it was the second time)  the message was that it could not write to the registry.   The install cancels and reverts the system back to Vista.

Facts:Compatibility Check Checked OK Current OP System - Windows Vista Ultimate Hardware HP Pavilion dv9000 Processor, AMD Atholon(tm) 64x2 Dual-Core Processor TK-57(Not many programs on a fairly clean install of Vista) IE, MS Office, Photoshop and a few chat programs Signed on as Administrator when starting the install Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Win 7 Download Fails: Download Files Are Reported Being Bad
I've been trying to download the german version of win7rc from the microsoft website, but unfortunately, this hasn't worked. Each time the download is finished, i get informed, the integrity check wants to get sure, that the file I just downloaded works correctly. After having checked it, it reports that the file is damaged or bad, and I therefore need to download the file again or to abort. In both cases, the old-download gets automatically deleted.

I've tried it again for at least 10 times, but I still have no Idea, why I'm not being able to download Win7 successfully. Do you have any ideas? My OS is WinXP SP3 32Bit.I tried the download with IE7 and IE8.

I have checked the install source and running from an MS. A custom install is not an option for me. I also ran check disck to no avail. My setuperr.log is empty but my setupact.log isn't. I have tried the same thing on my laptop which works fine and has no problems.

Upgrade From Vista Home Premium Fails
I purchased a student edition of Windows 7 and downloaded it from the Microsoft website. I attempted to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 last night, but received an error message just after the first time my computer rebooted during the installation (during the third phase, called 'Expanding Windows files' at approximately 21%). I checked the error log and found that the setup had failed to find a file.

I attempted the installation this morning and it failed again at the same place, though this time the error log is empty. The compatibility advisor finds no problems with my computer upgrading to Windows 7. I'd appreciate any help you could give me.

Edit: attempted installation a third time; it gave me the same error as last time.

The error log says: 2009-11-11 13:43:14, Error      [0x06413c] IBSLIB FindVolume: Unable to find volume marked as [$Setup_InstallVolume$][gle=0x00000002] 2009-11-11 13:43:14, Error      [0x064225] IBSLIB FindVolume: Failed while looking for [$Setup_InstallVolume$]; hr = 0x80070490.[gle=0x00000002]

Copy And Move Over A Network Fails To Copy The Files
Windows 2008R2 file copy or move to Windows 7 RTM

When copying or moving files from a network location e.g. 2008R2 to a Win7 computer

The copy operation may finish half way through

thus you can end up with files that are the correct size, but don't have all the data, or files don't get copied at all

even worse, if moving, windows thinks the file has been copied, and deletes the original

Upgrade From Vista SP2 To Win 7 Home Premium Fails
Completed upgrade on first DELL Inspiron after several attemps and many hours.   Second DELL Inspiron 1705 Vista SP2 I have wasted many hours.  When I insert the disk into the DVD there's activity which looks like a decompress.   There's no SETUP screen.  After an hour the process completes but no SETUP screen.   If I try to access the DVD the process starts over.

If I boot with the disk in the DVD the process starts again but the initialization of VISTA is delayed. The BIOS has been updated. I have uninstalled McAfee, PCTools, iTunes, QuickTime and Real Player. With all the problems recorded in this forum, I'm reluctant to proceed.   I do not want to be in the position wher I have to reinstall VISTA.
