Stuck At ' Completing Upgrades ' Of Install
I'm am trying to install Win 7 from a current system that has Vista, and it has been stuck at "Completing Upgrades" for 12+ hours, do I just have to wait for the computer to do its thing, or is there something wrong with my install? Am I basically stuck until it finishes? What is going on at this time of install? What would happen if I was to shut off my computer?

Explorer: Changing Default Path From 'Libary' To 'Computer'
I even tried replacing the quick launch icon with the Windows Explorer Desktop icon. It still thinks I need to use the libary. When I use programs like Mp3tag when I return to the menu after editing an album, I have to change the path back to the drive where I am working. Is there a way to change the default folder view from 'Library' to 'Computer' ?

Backup Stuck, Doesn't Move Past 48%
I tried starting a backup last night around 1030pm, I left it all night and woke up this morning and found the backup process still at around 50%. Â it's been around 12hrs and nothing. I'm only trying to backup about 350gb but 12hrs seems way too long. Â is there a reason why my system won't backup?

After Nvidia Driver Install, Get 'windows Not Genuine'
i was trying to get drivers for my printer. After restart, screen went black. I restarted in safe mode with netwking to find out what to do. So I eventually found out my graphics card had no driver; it had a generic vga adapter. So I search for my graphics card to find it is an Nvidia GeForce fx 5200 and I get the drivers for it. I restart in normal mode: no success. restart in safe' with net' . starts and am notified that drivers have installed. Now on next restart in normal mode, application error 0xc150002...press ok. Then i get a message in the bottom right hand corner that says 'windows is not genuine build 7600'. I have seen how to change it with/without cmd, but either requires normal mode. So how do I re enter my product key?

'doesn't Have A Valid IP Adress' Error
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. Evaluation version 7100. The driver for the ethernet connection is some sort of Intel driver built in with the Dell E520 Motherboard. The thing is, the wireless works. I use a D-Link Xtreme N Desktop Adaptor (DWA-552). But my computer is in such an awkward location in the house that it's not really an excellent option, so I got 20m of ethernet cable to hook up my PC to the router which is a D-Link DI-614+. The Router and modem are connected to a PC that is running Windows XP. When I plug in the cable to my computer it sorts it out for a while but it ends up saying it doesn't have a valid IP address? This only occurs with the ethernet cable and not the wireless. Could this be a case that my computer is too advanced? What if I rolled back to 32-bit or XP? The drivers for the DI-614 are already at the latest, and D-Link discontinued support for it like 5 years ago. There are several other computers in the network and they work with the ethernet cable and wireless too, but they're all XP. So it's probably something with Windows 7. Having stable connection to the internet is just the main goal I want here.

Install Freezes At Completing Installation
When installing Windows 7 Beta v7 I encountered several times where the installer would freeze. The solution was simple and I hope it helps. Turns out the installer has trouble if you have overclocked your computer. Put it all back to stock and it shouldn't freeze.

XP And 7 Install Issues (Won't Boot Into Win 7 Install)
I have XP SP2 installed. I used EASEUS Partition Master to split my drive in half, one half being XP, the other half being a future install of Windows 7. Put DVD in, selected the blank partition, began the install. Once it gets to the first reboot, it will reboot and go straight into XP. There is no option to choose Windows 7. The XP boot.ini has only one entry for XP. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking I need to add an entry for Windows 7, but have no clue what to put and I'm also guessing I'd have to add a few special tags because it's booting into the setup process of Win 7.

DivX 6 Encode AVI's Won't Play In Media Center
I am having a very odd problem. I have a bunch of files on another computer that I used to stream to this computer when it was Vista Ultimate running in Media Center. Now, with 7 RC Ultimate, when I try to stream the very same files within Media Center, Media Center itself crashes and has to be restarted. This seems to be on ANY AVI that I have that is DivX 6 or XviD encoded (I think XviD anyway, I have definitely narrowed it down to being a DivX problem). I can go out to Windows Explorer and choose the very same file and play it perfectly fine in the regular Media Player application. I am not understanding why it plays in Media Player, but not in the much more desireable Media Center.

No 'explorer' After In-place Upgrade (to Win7) From Vista Ultimate (both 64-bit)
After installing Windows 7 on a well-working VISTA Ultimate 64-bit machine with Window 7's 64-bit upgrade, a couple of hours later all seemed well - UNTIL ...The Welcome screen (normal - and in high resolution) 2550 x 1600 - then a black screen with only "Windows 7<new line> Evaluation copy, Build 7100".Never any progress after this - explorer won't load (or exits right after it loads).Ctrl-Alt-Delete brings up Windows Task Manager, and you can run virtually anything by selecting "New Task" and browsing to the appropriate executable. Office 2007, Outlook, the Internet, etc. can all be run without problem using this method. There are NO icons anywhere - no task bar - no start button - NOTHING. Have tried countless times. I cannot get to Windows Update (because there is NO start button).I DO get explorer to run in "Safe Mode" - but can't get resolution high.I did dual boot VISTA Ultimate and Windows 7 for several months. It was only when I delete the previous beta and tried to install Windows 7 that all "H" broke loose. I tried upgrading the video drivers (from ATI for 4890) and those installed OK - but can't get to the control panel for those either.I've tried everything. Explorer (NOT INTERNET EXPLORER) will not run in 'normal mode.'I don't want to do a complete reinstall on a 'clean' HD unless I have to. I can access all my data now using the Task Manager - but I have so many programs installed it would take days and days to redo everything from scratch.Any suggestions?

SSD Laptop Drives 'slower Than Hard Disks'
Being a laptop owner i was not happy to read this SSD laptop drives ‘slower than hard disks’ But are 40% more expensive Solid-state drives (SSDs) are becoming a more frequent storage component in laptops, and are promoted as being faster and more energy-efficient than traditional spinning hard drives. But tests prove that such drives are actually slower than standard laptop hard disks.

In Windows XP as well as in Vista, it was possible to compose and send out an email using MAPI with the default email application MS Outlook, Outlook Express or anyother. But in Windows7, it is not possible to send out mails using MAPI. The ResolveName function call prompts an error. I found that ResolveName function is deplicated. Is there anything else can fix this problem?

Win 7 - Notices But Does Not 'see' External Usb Hard Drive
I upgraded from Vista Home Premium SP2 (32Bit) to Windows 7 Home Premium (32Bit) and after the upgrade my external usb hard drive can not be seen. The system notices it when it is plugged in and/or powered on but does not show it under My Computer or any other drive display option. I have seen other posts about this all without a solution- could I have missed the solution - if so please forgive this posting and please point me in the right direction. If there hasn't been a solution posted and you know how to solve this issue I am very interested. The Windows 7 Hardware Compatibility indicates this drive is supported and the upgrade advisor did not object to it.

Router In 'Port Mapping' Tight Loop, With UPNP
Since a few days ago, I've noticed my internet service grind to a halt intermittently. Checking the router logs, I find many pages like those below. (192.168.1.100 is my Windows 7 PC. 88.97.aa.bb is the [munged for my security] internet address of my router). Has the W7 network discovery protocol gone into overdrive? My router is a Linksys Wag200G. I've got an AV product plus Defender, so malware seems unlikely? I don't play with ____, torrentz or P2P.I'd hate to see this on a big corporate network as it's effectively a Denial of Service attack!

Kensington USB 'expert Mouse' Trackball - Any Success ?
got a recently built new machine and only one relatively minor issue. Kensington Expert-Mouse trackball (gotta love their naming convention) - Win7 recognises it as a mouse and it does work, but I'd really like to get proper functionality if I can. The scroll-wheel only works intermittantly and I have no options for customising the buttons (or using the extra buttons at all). Unfortunately Kensington isn't much help with drivers, with support for nothing more recent than XP. I tried to be clever and use the Vista drivers for a more recent version, but no dice. Does anyone know if there are any hacks, workarounds, etc to get these working properly? Or if there are any plans to provide support natively in Win7 itself? It's not a deal-breaker for me, but would just be nice.

Explorer Don't Show Computer And Library's (Documents, Pictures, Music)
When I open the first explorer window I can't see any of my drives or library's (Documents, pictures, music...). When I open a second instance of the explorer, all the drives are available but then without doing anything the green progresbar on top of the explorer window starts to grow but it takes most of the time around 10 to 15 minutes to complete. When I open a drive and switch to any folder the progresbar starts all over again. It takes again such a long time. I experience the same problem with the configuration screen, none of the icons will be shown, but when I open a few explorer instances they will be reapear. Does anyone have the same problem or something similar?

Bug: Gadgets Have Sticky Alignments Even When 'Align Icons To Grid' Option Is Unchecked
Windows 7 Build 7100. When right clicking on the desktop, click menu 'View' / 'Align Icons to Grid' to choose whether or not elements on the desktop should be aligned automatically or not. This option should also apply to the alignment behaviour of desktop gadgets, which have annoying "sticky" alignments when they are close to each other or the edge of the screen. Since users tend to group gadgets near one another, and near the edges of the screen, this is a particularly frequent problem. It is also an annoying one!

Opening Word 2007 Document 'Connecting To Printer, Press Esc To Cancel'
Word opens normally, but if I then try to open an existing document, or open a document to start Word, then, in the bottom left corner I get 'Connecting to Printer, Press Esc to cancel'. It takes anything up to 30 seconds for the document to then appear after which I can work on it normally and any subsequent documents opened in the session open immediately. This is on a desktop pc with both printers connected via USB. The issue has only just started happening over the last week or so, possibly after Office was updated. This is a month old clean Windows 7 Professional installation and Office was installed at the same time. It doesn't matter which printer I set as default the problem still occurs. I've checked that I have the latest drivers for each printer (Windows had found them both on installation anyway). The pc is on a home network but it makes no difference if any other pc/laptop is connected or not. Word is the only program having this problem, Excel opens immediately, as do all non MS programs. There's no indication in Event Viewer of any criticals or warnings. I've seen this problem listed on other occasions but the problem seems to occur only on networked printers and the fix of changing the default printer to a 'non-real' one is no good for me. Anyone else had the problem & found a solution?

Disk IO Basically Stops And System 'freezes'
I have been running my machine without any problems for a couple of months, then it started to slow down - or more specifically I would initiate the move of a 10G file from one external (esatabox) to another (same box). Transfer will start at 60M/sec and run for a short time, then all disk IO will stop. Status bar is still 'pulsing' but not moving. After 10-20 minutes it will resume the move but now the transfer rate is 2M/s. Pull up taskmgr and look at performance shows zero disk IO (it doesn't even show any disks). Checked RAM Created a backup image of the OS using the Windows 7 backup, created a recovery disk, booted to recovery disk and restored the image (I didn't change any of my disk settings i.e. raid to ide). Seemed to restore ok, but problem persists. Anyone have any clue??? Or could anyone point me to something in Windows 7 that may help diagnose this problem?

Win7 + X-Fi: Can't Decode DD/DTS (Isn't This Built Into
I'm getting a little frustrated because the latest Creative X-Fi drivers say this: Added Features or Enhancements: For systems using Windows 7 or Windows Vista * What U Hear feature is enabled. To find out the Product ID of your audio device and if it supports the following feature in Windows XP, click here. * Dolby® Digital and DTS® decode re-established for sound cards that included decoding in their Windows XP drivers (Not applicable for products that included a 3rd party software DVD player license in the package). I've checked the compatibility, and my Xtreme Music supports this DD/DTS decoding. However, in the audio console I do not have a decoder tab and my SPDIF I/O tab has the SPDIF drop-down grayed out and set to "Default". How do I get my X-Fi Xtreme Music to hardware decode DD/DTS? (under Windows 7).

'wavy' Lines Across Screen (like Refresh Rate, But Not)
I built up a PC a couple of months ago. It has an ok spec, Phenom II 550 x2, NVidia GTX 250, 4b ram, 500gig HD, 620w PSU. Windows 7 Eval. 7100. From the first couple of days I noticed an issue that looked like incorrectly setup refresh rates - there are wavy lines accross the entire screen, and is particularly noticeable on highlighted text and the side edges of windows. I made sure the frame rate was correct, both in Windows and according to the GFX Card. I have tried all the settings but have settled at 75hz. This is the best setting but does not get rid of the problem. I have the most up to date drivers for my GFX Card and Windows 7 is up to date too. The intensity of the problem can fluctuate. Right now, its fairly minimal and only visable if you are looking. It can however get to the point where its becoming hard to read text, or at least tiring because you have to strain some more. This can happen at any time. The only link I have found is to games, as both World of Warcraft and Borderlands will intensify the isse, both ingame and in Windows. I am fairly sure they are set at the correct resolution and refresh rate where possible. What could this be? Further info, three weeks ago I turned the PC on in the morning to find the 'power' button unresponsive. After some waiting and several attempts it eventually turned on but I got a 'no signal' display on screen. Later I resorted to jump starting the PC without the power button, using a screwdriver to connect the prongs - after doing this, the power button has been fine although it took another day for the no signal message to go away and normal viewing return. This problem has not repeated since. During this the fans were fluctuating a lot, audibly so. This dissapeared mostly along with the above problems, but I still think it sounds like the fans are fluctuating infrequently, particularly on initial bootup. I have no software for changing fan speeds, as far as they know they run at the speed I set physically. A lot of this seems to point at the GFX Card, although I am a little more inclined to think it is the power supply, or the availability of power for each unit. But I really don't know. Either I can find the solution online or I take it to the shop and pay for a repair, not that its easy to even tell them what they need to repair. The PC runs fast and with relatively few crashes besides that one weekend and this persistant display problem.

Backup Setup Does Not 'see' Local Hard Drives
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate latest RC 32-bit. Both the C: drive and an external USB hard drive fail to appear in the choices during Windows Backup setup - but Backup does 'see' the DVD writer and if I insert a USB flash drive - that shows up in the available list as well. Have tried sharing and unsharing the drives (was suggested by a tech), rebooted after re-partitioning and re-formatting the external drive and tried again (no difference). Read in a forum that one should check a specific connection registry key for lower filters and upper filters values, delete if found, but those were not present. Deleted infcache.1 from the C:windowssystem32driverstore and rebooted based on remarks I read in a forum - let it recreate but still, no happiness. Wndows Explorer sees the external drive, I can do all of the normal things - create folders, write, read, copy, delete. Don't know what to try next - maybe it's time to format C: ?
