Run 16-bit Programs From A Command Line

Since DOS 2.0 I have written and collected command line programs. Many do things not possible without command line support. Such as run an Assembler and editor from a .BAT file (I use A86 if you want to search for it) to created and run handy small .COM programs.

But none of these 16-bit programs work on my Vista 64-bit. A friend has the same computer I have, but with Vista 32-bit and he verified a few of my .COM programs worked fine.

? Would I be able to install Win 7 32-bit and run them?

Passing Command Line Parameters To VM-based Programs
I'm trying to figure out how to pass a command line parameter to a program inside the XP Mode VM. I haven't been able to find out much info about this, so I thought I'd ask you guys. More specifically, I want to pass command line parameters to Internet Explorer 6 to tell it to open a URL. The URL can be arbitrary so I can't simply create a batch file to load IE w/ a predefined site or anything like that. (The end goal here is to use this Firefox extension:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10601 to have the following context menus:

Open Page in IE6 (will open the current page in VM copy of IE6)
Open Page in IE7 (ditto, but for IE7 in a different VM image)
Open Page in IE8 (native IE8 in win7)

) Any ideas?

Game Command Line Parameters
I simply want to add the -nointro parameter to my BioShock game shortcut.

I go to the shortcut, then properties, but where I think it should be added, similar to what XP looks like, is greyed out (the word "BioShock").

What do I need to do? I'm new to Windows 7, coming from XP.

Game Shortcuts Command Line Parameters (win7 RC)
One of the few (new) thinks I liked in Vista, was that you could edit program shortcuts with different options.

eg for a game if you click on it, the default action was taken ans the game was launched. But with some games that was not enough and you could add some extra settings. But now I can't seem to find where to add 2nd options.

And not even how to place default parameters. (Cloud make different icons for the different actions then, but that was the good thing in Vista to reduce the number of shortcuts)

eg. default as is Standard play as first action, i could make a 2nd update.

For normal program shortcuts I cans still add parameters, but in the game folder that is greyed-out.

Activate Sleep Mode From Command Line Or Via Batch File
I am trying to switch my "living-room PC" back from iMac back to Windows 7 ;)One of the problem is: My kids cannot hit the "Sleep" button correctly, because you must click exactly on the small ">" Button in the start menu and the "Sleep" Mode is necessary to have an instant active PC (like in MacOS X).

Therefor it would be very nice, if we either can change the default behavior from "Shutdown" to "Sleep" or find a way to activate the sleep mode via batch-file which can be placed in the desktop. It seems that "shutdown" has only an option for "hibernate", which is not what I want.

Most 32-bit Programs Won't Run In RTM
I've been using Win7 since the beta, and not once have I had this problem 'till now (and I've used builds 7000, 7100, 7229, and 7260 without issues).

But starting with build 7600.16384 (I have the RTM now (7600.16385)), I've been having trouble getting 32-bit programs to work. At first they were slow to start--now they won't start at all. Originally I could work around it by running them apps as Admin w/compatability for Vista SP2, but now even that doesn't work.

64-bit apps startup fine (Photoshop, IE8, any built-in app, etc.), but anything 32-bit will just sit in the Task Manager all day, with the memory usage never above 3-4MB, and simply fail to start. No error messages, no abrupt termination, just nothing. The only exceptions have been FL Studio 8 and Steam (but Steam games won't run), both of which run perfectly despite being 32-bit.

I can only last so long using IE and not being able to play any games.

Run Different Language Programs
How do i keep the OS in English, but run another program as a different language

There should be an option to have a program always run as a set language

I would like to be able to run an English, Japanese and Korean program side by side, not reset the computer just to run one app.

I Know about applocal, but some times it does not cut it and the program fails to run properly.

Windows should let me run a program from any country, not just one at a time.

Can Startup Programs Run As Administrator ?
I have a couple of programs (Logitech Setpoint is one) which need to run as administrator in order to work in some programs (e.g. Visual Studio 2005). They are set to run at start-up, however since I've set them to run as administrator, they don't run.

Is there any way to get these to run at start up?

Sound Drivers = Only Able To Run Programs As Admin
When I install the drivers for my HTO Striker 7.1 and restart to complete driver installation, suddenly, I can only run anything if I right click and Run as Administrator.. not even Firefox. Its annoying to have to get the gray User Access Control screen everytime I want to do something, as well as having to right click and left click just to start a program.

HTO Striker 7.1 drivers on their site are listed as being good for Windows 7 x64.

What could be happening here? Has anyone had this problem?

The Ribbon Interface Will Be In ALL Programs That Run On Win7
It's called the Scenic Ribbon and you can already see it in Paint, Wordpad and Movie Maker.

The Ribbon originated in Office 2007 and has been improved even more in Office 2010.

Untill now it has only been a part of Office however starting with Windows 7 the Ribbon will be a part of the Operating System. That means any programmer will be able to add the ribbon to his program instead of the current menu bar.

Microsoft envisions a future where all programs running on Windows will have a ribbon instead of the menu bar.

Cannot Run 64-Bit DVD
I wanted to install 64-Bit. I had to install 32-Bit because I could not run the DVD from boot. I was getting the driver not found error, so I had to run the setup starting from WinXP 32-Bit. Since my drive didn't work anymore after install Win7, I assumed that was the reason I was getting driver not found. I have a drive that works with 7 now, but I can't run the 64-Bit DVD at boot. It just goes to a black screen telling me to restart, insert install CD, and choose repair.  Do I need to completely remove 32-Bit before trying to run the 64-Bit DVD?

Can't Install Myst 64 Bit Programs, And Some 32 Bit
Just like it says, I have some (several) programs that can install in either 32bit or 64bit
as well as I have straight up 32bit and 64bit programs only that some install but most do not.
Why is this?

This is how it always goes, every time too.

I start the installation process and it starts doing it's thing.

All looks good so far, as the installer takes you through to each next step, like normal.
And then it comes!

After a couple of three of these first things (which all seem like they are working normal)
all of a sudden, I see that it wants to install something quite normal, a "MicroSoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (64)" file/program/whatever and as the little green process line grows it gets almost to the end, and sits there for a few seconds and then I get THIS popup error message:

http://www.md-arts.com/scrn/64bit_Windows7_InstallingError_Cxx2005.JPG

Is there something I can do to fix this?

I have even tried downloading this file off the net and installed it, but it never seems as though it did any good, since I still get these same problems.

Can't Install Programs From Run DL Option In 7077

Anyone else run into this and found a fix?

Issue: Fresh Win7 Install; Cannot Run ANY Programs
I downloaded Windows 7 from MSDNAA from my school and burned it to a blank DVD (4.90GB I believe is the capacity). Everything seemed to work fine and the burn didn't seem corrupted even when I burned it at full speed, so please keep this in mind for the following issue.

After I successfully installed Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit on my system, I ran into an issue. Certain programs will not open or execute at all, whether it be a setup file or even Internet Explorer 8. Windows Media Player opens sometimes, but bugs out too every now and then. This is hindering me because since this is a fresh install, that means I cannot begin to install drivers such as the latest Catalyst drivers for my HD 3870.

Even if I open it as Administrator, it does nothing but show the usual "Processing" mouse animation spinning symbol and after a while, nothing shows up. I checked the task manager and I see it is still running, but since I don't see anything, I have to kill the process. Again, this happens with more than 50% of the Application files/Programs that I have tried and this is a fresh install of Windows 7.

I have tried to re-install Windows 7 again to no avail.

One weird error message I got was when I tried to open the sample "Wildlife in HD" video just to test it out: "Server Execution Failed".

I don't know what else to try and right now I am using my laptop with Windows XP to use this forum since I can't even open my browser on my desktop. Is there a way to solve this problem? Sorry for my first lengthy post, but I wanted to provide as much detail as possible.

And I think my specs should show below since I filled that part out....does it?

Error When Run A 32 Bit Program
Alright, well I only saw this once before, but now it seems like every time I try to run a vintage 32-bit program it comes up.

Whether it's Cool Edit Pro, Halo (the Microsoft game), whatever. anything that uses the video card - this comes up.

In this case it's Windows Live Messenger 8.1, running in Windows 2000 compatibility, so that Microsoft lets me sign on without upgrading to their new crap they call a messenger. (That's not the point, though, if even one person tells me that the problem is that I didn't upgrade WLM I'm gonna ignore them... It works PERFECTLY on ALL the computers I've done it on, so that's NOT the issue!!)

Anyway, does anybody know what that error means and how to fix it? Google tells me that it's a DirectX9 DLL problem (Which is way outdated, right? Since DX11 is the one that comes with it)... I tried all the suggestions, from installing DX9 (which of course didn't work since it "detected" a newer version), to replacing the DLL with a fresh one.

I might try installing Windows 7 x64 in VMWare, then copy the DLL from *THAT*, but still... what's the problem? It worked fine and that error is just now coming up. I scanned for viruses last night with Malwarebytes, and it's clean.
