View 3 Replies View RelatedI have VLC Portable as the default program for opening some video files, like .mp4 and .avi. And I have Foobar (portable) as the default program for .mp3.Usually the icons on .mp4, .avi, .mp3 files get updated with the icons of the assigned media players. But on this PC it's not working. They're still the same icons as if WMP was the default player.Does it have to do with the Standard user account? (Because on other PCs I run from an Admin account and I don't have such problems.)

View 2 Replies View RelatedSomehow i lost all my mp3's in media player 12 win 7. I have tried stopping the service then restarting. I have tried rebuilding the media library. I have copied database from new user account and wmp just makes a 951 kb one under that. I have move my mp3s to a different hard drive and that didn't work when I point to that directory.I did and upgrade install and tried a restore point. I run a command to show the directory of the database files and others for wmp and deleted them and restarted the service.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOut of nowhere, my Win7 x64 Home Professional has stopped playing .mpg files and certain website audio. The response is always "Server Execution Failed"for video files, or "Server Execution Failed
C:UsersJLSAppDataLocalTempplaylist.asx" for online streaming audio.
My experience level on this sort of thing is minimal, but I have tried removing media services (media player), rebooting, and re-installing with no success. FYI I just switched from Kaspersky to Avast, which I'm assuming should have nothing to do with my problem.

the little black arrow is there but no matter how many times I click it I can't see the recently used files. The same thing affects the taskbar menu (or whatever you call it), only these two options are available although I have watched many videos with VLC. This is happening only with VLC Media Player and IIRC only with the few latest releases of VLC (I'm now using the latest one, v.1.1.1).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have holiday movie clips taken on my Panasonic camcorder. I have copies on both desktop pc and laptop. The files used to play ok on both pc's but will not now play on my desktop anymore. I have tried copying the ones that play ok on the laptop back to the pc but the problem still exists. I can also open the files on the desktop pc using nero quick media viwer but when I try to open with Windows Media Player I get an error message in a dialogue box saying " Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file." I thought I would uninstall WMP and re-install but cannot see this as an option in control panel. I have right clicked the files and associated them with Windows Media Player but this does not help. The files show up as the Type "Movie Clip" ( .MOD Extension)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 codec ..found from Win7codecs I have some movies (avi) with DTS audio.. WMP plays the movie but not the sound. so I followed the instruction half way down from the link above. (see below) If you have DTS audio in an AVI container, follow this proceedure for playback in WMP or MC;Open the appropriate settings application . . .use the 32bit application for a 32bit player, or the x64 application for MC on x64 systemsChange the AVI splitter under the AVI TAB to Gabests splitterthen rename the AVI to MP4now your file will play. After following this instruction, WMP llibrary won't list MP4 files. I have been trying to search for a solution but without a success.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI was trying to get my Western Digital Live tv player to access my video files but I think windows wont allow it to view them.I followed the instructions for the live tv player to get the files to be shared but they don't show up in the folder when browsing the files on the live tv player menuit's a known issue a lot of people are having on western digital's forum.[URL]...chapter 6 page 35 is where it shows how to get folders and files to be shared but no one on any windows machine can get it to work.from xp to 7 the folders show up blank(empty) in the browser. however if I turn on media streaming in windows 7 I can access all my files with my media player. even though the instructions says that setting is for connecting the player to other DLNA protocol devices. but that's the only way I can access my stuff on my computer. the instructions suggest we use the "network share" route instead. but no one can get it to work.I was wondering if there is a setting in windows that needs to be adressed other than what western digital's instructions tell us to do.I know it's asking a lot out of you guys/gals if you don't have one or care about it, but I just don't understand windows 7 sharing enough to get it to work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Zune and almost always use the Zune software to play my music but I also like Media Center and play music from it sometimes. So a few days ago I tried to play something on Media Center and it didn't work. I know that when you play music in Media Center on the PC it actually is using Media Player.
so I tried to play the same music in there and got a error with the code C00D11B1 I thought it was something with the Zune DRM since all my DRM protected music wouldn't play in Media Player, but this morning I turned on Copy protect during a rip just see if that would work, it didn't. So Media Player won't play any DRM music, anyone else have this problem and/or know of a fix?
Adobe readers will not open pdf files in Windows 7 with media player.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter unsolvable problems with VLC player (constant crash reports) I want to move back to Windows Media Player as my standard program to play audio & video files. But whatever I click and do, I cannot find a way to (re)associate the 'VLC'-files to WMP12.If I rightclick a 'VLC'-file in a folder, I can select 'open with' and then select WMP. But only for one instance! If i want to make WMP the default opener, I get this error message: 'This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel' - Strange message, because this file HAS a default program already, I just want to change it!I have desperately been looking for an option Windows had in the past, where you can (in explorer, I think) get a list of ALL file extensions, then select which program to use to open a specific extension, then check the box

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I have been trying to play/rip this CD I just got, but I have been having no luck at all. It will start playing the song, and continue playing the whole song, but the rest of the computer crashes so I am forced to restart. I don't get why one program would crash the whole computer like that.
I've also tried to rip the CD, and it would rip about 4 tracks and then the computer would crash and it would stop. Anyone having a similar problem or know how to fix this one? It is an imported Japanese CD by the way, not sure if that matters or not.
I have done the following:Went to "Turn Windows features on and Off", both Media Center and Media Player are checked. I unchecked and the checked them, no Media anywhere."Start menu and then in the upper right corner type in media center. It will start searching the whole computer for media center". I had a file, Media Center Programs dated 11/21/10, when I clicked on it I got "This Folder is empty". I installed this Dell computer 7/10/11. None of the newer files were helpful.Searched the Dell Reinstallation DVD thoroughly and found an icon for windows media center, I clicked it and it popped up with the following warning: Windows Media Center has lost its remote connections to Windows Media Player. Restart and try again.I don't know what to do, Windows Media Center and Player are definitely not on my Win 7 64 Bit desktop. I realize it was most likely installed by Dell but I don't remember deleting it or how.I tried to download WMC on Microsoft site but when I did it said what I had (Version 12.0.7601.17514) is newer than what would be downloaded. It seems strange the it knows the version number when I can't find the programs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two Dell laptops, both running Windows 7. I have both set up on a HomeGroup and have enabled media sharing on both as well. Network discovery is turned on for both, file and printer sharing is on, password protected sharing is off. Under WMP, I have Media Streaming on. None of my folders are hidden.
For this discussion, things with Laptop A are fine, but Laptop B is causing me some problems. I have two main issues and fear they may be related: 1. From Laptop B, I can see Laptop A in the homegroup and I can see it in WMP. I can access all of Laptop A's files and play them back with no problem. However, from Laptop A, I can see Laptop B in the Homegroup, but I can not see it in WMP. I can navigate to certain folders in explorer and see the files, but I can not play them, even though I have all sharing functions that I can think of turned on. (I do have McAfee running, but disabled the firewall in case that was the problem. It didn't help)
Also, I have a DLNA compliant device on the network that I can stream music to using the "play to" feature in WMP. From Laptop A I can play to the network speaker just fine. I can not from Laptop B. I should add that I can "see" the device in WMP from Laptop B, but when I queue a track to play, it just hangs up as if it can't communicate any further with the networked speaker.
have been setting up all the *.wma files on my music web site to stream as directed by *.wax files. everything was fine in XP Pro...but now I've gone over to Windows 7; & noticed that when I click on one of the *.wma's at my site...it doesn't stream...Windows 7 instead asks me if I want to open or save the file. no matter which option I choose...it treats it as a text file (opening the *.wax in 'Notepad')
