2nd Win7 Install, Now Vista Loading Screen After Remove
Some might remember I posted a few days ago about installing Windows 7 (64bit) separately on this same comp (different hard drive) to test what drivers worked for the devices I had, in particular the Canon scanner. Anyway it worked, and I booted into Windows 7 64b fine - but I had a few issues getting back into 32-bit one (64bit one became the active boot. even after i used diskpart and bcdedit etc. Anyway, I got the 32-bit install to again load as the default (and deleted the 64-bit partition). BUT, I keep getting the Vista booting screen - i.e. the small green loading bar instead of the elaborate "Starting Windows'. I then put in the Windows 7 dvd in and went to repair the install (to try & get the Windows 7 boot screen back), but it wouldnt even find the OS install to repair it. So basically, its back to the 32bit Windows 7 install fine - but with the older Vista loading screen. Any ideas?

BSOD During Install (vista / Win 7) On RAID
I got this problem and cannot solve it myself for over a month, ANY advice will be appreciated! The goal is Windows 7 64bit with RAID0. 1. Windows XP 32bit installs fine on RAID0 (with proper driver integrated) 2. Windows 7 64bit and Vista 64bit installs fine on single drive. 3. Windows 7 64bit and Vista 64bit on RAID0 give BSOD 0x000000F4 during completing installation stage, then Matrix Storage manager shows RAID0 ERROR OCCURRED. EDIT: 4. Windows Vista 32bit won't install on raid setup too. Its not the case with 64bits I tried everything I could think of: 1. exchanged both hard drives 2. tested RAM 3. tried install with minimum pheripherals and 1GB RAM 4. messed up with BIOS, even updated to latest beta bios 5. tried installing intel vista64 raid drivers, tho windows 7 has itself 6. RMA'd my DVD Drive and still NO GO E7200 || Abit IP35 Dark Rider || A-Data 4GB || 4850 || X-Fi Gamer || Samsung F1 RAID0 || Pioneer DVR-212 || Corsair VX450 || HP w2207h

Win 7 Wont Boot After Install Over Vista
I currently have a Vista/XP dualboot on my system. I attempted to install Windows 7 as an upgrade over Vista, thereby keeping my XP. The install runs fine however on the final reboot the PC no longer boots correctly. It displays the "Press anykey to boot from CD" timer and then instead of showing the bootloader (as it has been all the way through setup (Choose XP/Windows 7/Earlier Windows)) It simply freezes. The only way I have been able to make my sytem work at all has been to boot from the Windows 7 dvd attempt to install it again and wait until it forces a reboot at which point the bootloader is visible again and I can get back into XP. Ive tried the repair option on the DVD and no joy either.

Install Ubuntu On A Xp, Vista, Win 7 Multiboot System
I have 2 hard drives, the first has Win 7 RC1 and the second has XP and Vista in their own partitions. The Win 7 boot loader gives me the choice of Windows 7, Vista and XP when I boot up. The question is: If I install Ubuntu onto the second HD in a currently unoccupied partion, will GRUB (which is sure to take over the booting process, from past experience) still leave me with the 3 choices I have now (assuming I do not select the Ubuntu prompt). I wwould hate to lose the ability to get into the 3 Win systems !

Upgrade Install On Win 7/Vista Dual Boot
Well i am currently running Vista Home Premium sp2 and Windows 7 Ultimate (build 7100) in a dual boot config for about 2-3months and loving it. I was wondering if i could upgrade my Windows 7 install to RTM without affecting my Vista install? Do you get a choice which OS you want to upgrade or does it go by what OS you load the upgrade disc from?

Win 7 RC Install Failed, Now I Can't Boot Vista
Alright I was dual booting Vista and 7 beta just fine without any problems for months. I decided to install 7 RC and replace my beta installation. So I downloaded the iso and burned a disc. Rebooted, booted from dvd, and got into the custom installation mode. I reformatted the partition with windows 7 beta on it and selected that partition to install on. When it got to expanding windows files I figured it would take a while and went to bed. In the morning I had an error message saying installation failed. So I figured I'd boot into vista, download a clean copy and burn another disc and try again. But now I can't boot into vista. The boot manager doesn't recognize that I have any OS at all. I tried running windows recovery disc and it says it can't detect any boot sequence problems. Vista is there intact and unharmed but now how do I boot it?

I hestitate for example to set the Bios to boot from DVD while installing Windows 7 or will the Windows 7 install when rebooting during installation automatically default to the Vista32 partition?

Win 7 RC Install Over Vista Ultimate SP1 Fails At First Reboot
I've now tried several times to install the Windows 7 RC over Vista Ultimate SP1. Each time, the install fails after it gathers files with a message that says setup was unable to reboot the system. The only choice is to cancel setup and start over. The process begins at the beginning, and it takes forever, and fails at the same point, so I'm giving up unless someone can point me to specific information. My machine is a Dell XPS with 4 GB of RAM and an ATI Catalyst video card; everything is up-to-date in Vista Ultimate.

Install Win 7 RC But Problem With Vista Hard Drive Partition
I am having a pretty big problem in my mind, I am trying to install the Windows 7 RC. I first tried installing it on my external hard drive because I was nervous about putting it on my laptops hard drive, but it didn't work. So now I am being forced to partition my hard drive and put it on but the problem is. I have a 160GB hard drive, and had a 10GB partition there when I bought the laptop and it was there for recovery etc, so I deleted that and was going to extend it but I wasn't able to. So I clicked on my main partition (c) and clicked shrink but it would only go down 3GB. And tried again but it said shrink to 0, so I wasn't able to shrink it any more. I tried defragging, turning off recovery points etc etc, and I looked it up and tried a lot of things and I know its because of a file(s) that can't be moved or something, and want to know if I can get past this? Or at least try installing it on the 10 GB partition (will it work, do I really need 16GB?)

Upgrade From Win Vista Ultimate To Win 7 Home Premium
I have 2 PCs with Vista Ultimate it on and I bought 2 "upgrades" (or downgrades - you decide) to Windows 7 Home Premium (I never use Bit Locker and only need English). When I bought the upgrades (Amazon.com), it stated that I can do this upgrade. However when I attempted to upgrade it stated that I can only do a reinstall. Can I purchase an upgrade from 7 Home Premium to 7 Ultimate that works at pre install oris there a work around? There is nothing I hate more about Windows than having to reinstall applications, drivers, and updating the registry.

Vista OEM + Win 7 Upgrade = Win 7 Retail?
This is not a question about the logistics of installing the OS -- I've already found out that you can do a clean install with the upgrade media. It is more a question of what I am entitled to do with my Win7 license (does it retain the OEM limitations or is it a retail version)? When I buy the Win7 upgrade am I "destroying" my Vista OEM license and creating a Win7 Retail license OR do I now own a Vista OEM and Win7 OEM license which are both tied to the same machine?  Specifically I am concerned with the following scenario: I currently own Machine 1 with Vista OEM installed on it. I purchase Win7 upgrade, so now I have Machine 1 with Win7 on it. In a year or two I plan on building a new machine, let’s call it Machine 2. I am going to take Machine 1 out of service completely or install an old retail copy of XP on it at this time. Am I licensed to install Win7 on Machine 2 OR is that license stuck with Machine 1?

How To Remove Win 7 RC Without Formatting The Drive ?
I have a system that has Windows XP. I installed the Windows 7 RC sometime back on another drive. I have removed the boot loader option so that the system only loads to WinXP. The problem is the drive that holds the Win7 files contains other data that I can not move which means I can not format the drive. Using WinXP and trying to delete the files/folders associated with Win7 gives "Access Denied". How do I remove these files without formatting the drive?

Remove Win 7 Compatibility Mode
I have been trying to get Itunes or any IPOD software to work and recognize my IPOD. I even tried Windows XP SP2/SP3 compatibility and even though it says connected on my IPOD it will NOT show up in ITUNES. I upgraded to the lastest RC 7100 and it kept the compatibility settings. When I run the program it pops up telling me to REMOVE the compatibility mode. When I RIGHT CLICK and goto properties/compatibility EVERYTHING is unchecked. I have tried running with admin priveledges, unchecking everything.. for some reason it won't remove the compatibility. If i uninstall and RE-install it RE-applies the compatibility mode. Not sure how to remove it...

Vista Win Mail Conversion In Win 7
I think Microsoft really screwed up here. I see many people have had the same surprise when converting from Vista to Windows 7 that there is no automatic replacement for Win Mail and that emails and contacts are getting lost. I think Microsoft needs to somehow solve this situation immediately. I spent like over 2 hours with Microsoft customer service who kept bouncing me around and noone of them knew how to go step-by-step conversion to this so called no web Microsoft mail program. Now I wish I would have stayed with Vista, even if it did have problems.

Can Win 7 Professional Install Over Win 7 RC Ultimate ?
I have pre-ordered Windows 7 Professional upgrade & the more I read up on this, I don't know if my upgrade path will work. I had Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on an HP laptop, I was having issues with the Vista o/s, so I installed the Windows 7 RC & everything works just fine at least til June 2010. my question is will the Windows 7 Professional o/s install over the Windows 7 RC Ultimate? I have my Vista Home Premium license # still on my laptop, but I don't have any Vista backups that actually work, I made a backup following HP's instructions(I was only allowed to make 1 copy)just after I purchased. If I can't get Windows 7 Professional to work on this laptop I will just cancel my pre-order & save myself $99.

Install Win 7 Home Premium Over Vista Home Premium Upgrade Edition
I installed a full version of Win 7 Home Premium, but discovered that my computer (Dell XPS 410) will not provide BIOS updates for Win 7. One apparent result is that several HDs are not recognizable or usable in Win 7. I would like to reinstall Windows Vista Home Premium (apparently the upgrade version) from its CD over the Win 7, at least until I can back up the inaccessible HDs. If possible, please send step-by-step instructions.
