Problems Connecting Wirelessly To Modem

New upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista results in problems connecting wirelessly to my modem (but fine via Ethernet cable)

I've got an HP desktop (Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9450 2.66GHZ, 8GB RAM) with a Foxconn 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless system adapter.  I also have a Motorola Wireless Cable Modem Gateway SBG900 (and I have another laptop connected wirelessly to it with no problems -but still running Vista).  I am running Norton Internet Security.

I just upgraded from 64bit Vista to 64bit Windows 7 -not a full install, kept all of my settings.  At the end of the install Windows 7 asked for my wireless settings and when I entered in my WEP key it kept telling me it was incorrect.  I gave up and completed the install and my computer picked up all the wireless networks in the area (including mine) but it still could not connect.

When I click "Troubleshoot problems" it says:

If you are on a home network, reset your wireless router or access point:
1. Unplug or turn off your router.
2. Wait at least 10 seconds.
3. Turn it back on or plug it back into the power outlet.

I've tried all the windows 7 suggested fixes (above) and reset my router/rebooted my computer but no luck (though my vista laptop continued to work well wirelessly).

I updated to all the latest drivers (including one for my Foxconn wireless system adapter) and also all the latest windows updates.  No luck.

Whenever I plug an ethernet cable directly from my modem into my computer I can connect without problems to the internet, but as soon as I disconnect, reboot the modem, reboot the computer, and attempt connection to my wireless network, no luck.

Then, following the advice given gtcfanatic (which actually solved his problem), I accessed my wireless modem's internet gateway and changed the security settings several times (rebooting the modem each time).  I tried moving from WEP to WPA, to WPA-2 (with AES and with TKID).  No luck on my desktop, though each time I did this and I reauthenticated with my Vista laptop, my laptop could access the internet no problem.

Finally I removed all internet security from my modem and created an open/unencrypted network, and I still could not connect -I received the same error yet again.  (Every time I made changes I unplugged the modem for 10 seconds and plugged it in again, and tested it with my Vista laptop which worked each time).

Any other ideas? Other things to test?

Cannot Connect Wirelessly To Motorola Sbg900
I have a compaq cq60-210us laptop with windows 7 ultimate and I am unable to connect to my Motorola sbg900 wireless gateway. I can connect when I'm hardwired but when I try to connect wirelessly it says "windows 7 is unable to connect to Motorola". I've went through the troubleshooting and have reset the sbg900, nothing seems to work. I am unable to find any kind of driver that I might need for the Motorola, and I have already updated my laptops drivers and have installed the windows updates.

Share Files Wirelessly - Networking
My setup: I have a desktop running the Windows 7 RC and a laptop running Vista. The desktop is connected to the Internet via a DSL modem which is directly connected to an ethernet (RJ45) port. Both machines also have wireless networking capability. There is also a printer physically connected to the desktop machine via USB.

My goal: I would like these machines to be able to, at a minimum, "talk" to each other and share files wirelessly. It would be nice if I could also get Internet access and print from the laptop without getting a router, but this is far less important.

What I've done so far: I have set up an ad hoc network on both machines. Both computers say they are connected to it as I type this. I have also shared the folders on each machine that I want the other machine to be able to "see". I have verified that both have the same workgroup name. I have also enabled Internet Connection Sharing and Printer Sharing on the desktop.

What happens when I do this: Not much. When I go to Network on each machine, the desktop does not even acknowledge the laptop's existence. The laptop does recognize that the desktop is there, but when I double-click on the icon for the desktop which should take me to its shared folders, I get the message "Windows cannot access [name of desktop machine]. Check the spelling of the name. (etc etc)." The laptop also does not have Internet connectivity nor does it see the printer.

Other notes of interest: As of about six months ago, I was able to share files between the laptop and an ancestor of this desktop machine. (It was a different motherboard in the same case, with about 50% of the same other hardware. That box was running Vista at the time.) My recollection is that I followed all the same steps as I did now, plus another I can't remember and that took some detective work to figure out. Either this step is eluding me or it's different with Windows 7 in the picture, though. To the best of my knowledge, no relevant settings on the laptop have changed since then, but I can't vouch for the desktop which is effectively a new machine.

What do I need to do?

Connecting Two Computers Together
I have an Eee PC and my main Desktop, both are running Windows 7 (same build.)

I want to be able to use a Homegroup, I really like the idea of it, but I want to be able to access my Desktop PC like it was in the homegroup even though I'm on another network (such as school.)

Would creating a Virtual Private Networking (via Himachi) allow me to create a homegroup between the two computers?

Any suggestions?

Modem Drivers
Trying windows 7 and so far i've had pretty good luck. Only problem I have is with modems. I've tried older modems (lucent) and newer (conextant) with drivers designed for Vista/XP and no luck installing them. After 4 modems I can't believe none are compatible. Any suggestion?. (only want the to use the modem for Fax or voice mail.)

P.S. Also all are internal modems, might have to go external USB to get one to work

Certain Programs Not Connecting To Internet
A friend of mine just bought a new laptop with windows 7 a week ago and has a belkin N150 router. After setting up the network everything was running fine and fast. Internet explorer and frostwire both worked plenty fine, but thats it. Firefox and Opera browsers both say they cannot connect to the internet, nor does the uTorrent program, and when we tried to use the mcafee antivirus from comcast it keeps coming up with an error along the lines of "unable to establish connection".

Well naturally I disabled both windows and the router's firewalls...still no luck. Then I plugged in the ethernet cable directly to the laptop, skipping the router...still no luck. Unless Comcast has some sort of stranglehold on which programs it will allow to use its internet, I believe it to be a windows issue. I have only worked with XP primarily and i know little about Windows 7. What would cause only internet explorer to have connections and leave everything else out?

Connecting To Program Problems
I've recently bought a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium on it. Every program, game, etc., cannot connect to the server. The confusing thing is that my internet connection is working great and most programs that don't require using an outside network work great. I'm very frustrated because for the past two days, i've done everything.

I've allowed every program on the firewall, I've allowed every inbound and outbound rule in advanced security, I've turned off my firewall, and opened every port for my games and programs BY HAND. Please someone help me find the issue and fix it!

Connecting 3 Monitors In Win 7
I have 3 monitors connected in windows 7 64 bit; VGA, DVI & HDMI/DVI cable. The displays are all there, but I can only get two to work at one time. I can readily switch between them but not get all 3 to be as one extended desktop.

I have a feeling I'm missing something simple, like another piece of hardware to extend them as-one.

The system is an ASUS CG5270, Quad Core2 Q8300 with Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset (display).

I was pleased that I could use the HDMI output to a DVI monitor for the 3rd monitor. It doesn't appear that Windows 7 wants to allow three displays together as one expanded desktop. What am I missing?

Connecting To An HP C4580 Printer
Using a Toshiba Nb205 mini notebook with windows 7 starter. Trying to connect to a printer on my home desktop that is running Windows XP. The notebook could not find the printer but it found the router and i have Internet access. The printer also has built in wifi but the notebook does not detect it either. Any solutions?

Answer:-

Is the XP PC set to share the printer? File and printer sharing need to be enabled and the XP PC and Windows 7 notebook need to be in the same "workgroup".

Connecting To Home Network
I have a laptop with Windows 7 and I am trying to connect to my home network. My home network consists of two other Windows XP computers connected to a router. I have the Internet connection that the other two computers have, but I cannot see any of their files and they do not show up as network places. How do I fix this? I am not a tech person and I don't understand all this fiddly stuff and I'm getting really frustrated.

The weirdest thing is, I was able to access the other two computers fine yesterday but now they do not turn up?? I have restarted multiple times but to no avail.

Problem Mapping/connecting Two Computers In
Wow I am so frustrated right now I cant remember the last time I was so frustrated! I have installed two fresh installations of 7264 x64 on two desktops. They are connected to a private network. I want to share the hard drives in both of them (say, C/: and D:/ )but I was running into all kinds of issues!!!

1) Tried connecting from one, got an error username and password but I changed the username and password many times only to have the same issue. Also it said username for pc1/user but I was trying to connect to pc2

2) after finally somehow getting access to the shares on pc1 and pc2 I mapped the drives, and upon restarting the computer I was unable to reconnect to the drives! Got odd errors, unable to reconnect. Also permission errors... ???

3) Even after it seemed to be working, I shared C: drive, but could not access it!!! No permission! I granted full access to everybody, but still nothing.

Why is it so impossible to do such an easy task in windows 7?

All i want is PC1 and PC2 should have their entire harddrives shared with each other... Is that too much to ask? The guy I was installing this for, is super mad that after all that time he doesn't have what he wants.

Mapped Drive Not Connecting At Startup
On startup, I get the message shown below. If I open Explorer the network drive is shown with a red "X" through it. If I click the network drive, it connects and displays the contents without an issue. If I run any application that needs files on that drive before clicking it in Explorer, it will say the resource is unavailable.

What appears to be happening is Windows tries to reconnect to the drive before the network connection is reestablished. I believe this to be the case because the network icon in the system tray is still showing the animation for establishing the network connection when the message pop's up. There is no issue with authentication or password's, etc., as the drive connects as soon as I click on it.

My question is, does anybody know of a way to set the mapped drive reconnection farther back in the boot sequence or add a longer wait state to it so it doesn't time out before the network connection is reestablished.?

Connecting Two Wireless Computers Without A Router
This is for my parents house. They have high-speed net that can only be registered to one computer, so running it to a router and then computers is not an option. We used to have it setup with net into "computer 1" then out to the wireless router. The new computer has only one ethernet port, so this can no longer be accomplished without buying another card, which I am very inclined to do. They are getting another computer that will also have Windows 7 and would like to get wireless working again, so...

1) I've tried an ad-hoc connection. I understand the concept and had it working for awhile but found it to be "finiky." I would always have to restart the connection everytime I wanted to use it. I couldn't get it to "stick." Did I maybe do something wrong or is there no way to keep the net connection open? I "saved" the network and set it to start automatically, but it would always close the internet sharing.

2) I haven't messed with home group...will this feature accomplish internet sharing easily??...without messing with any ad-hoc crap? I need everything as simple as possible, so if they have any problems I can fix it over the phone or they can figure everything out for themselves.

Like I said, worst comes to worst, I'll get them another ethernet and run it the old way...was just hoping I could simplify things and save some money.

W7 Not Asking For Passkey When Connecting To WEP Wifi
Currently I am using a Dell laptop with XP which is connected to my house's wireless connection. SSID itself is an open WEP. I had no problem connecting with the XP laptop; it asked me for a password, I put it in and it worked. When I try connecting with my other Dell laptop with Windows 7, it won't ask me for a password and say, "Windows was unable to connect to _____."

I then tried manually connecting to the wireless connection under the network settings. I've tried all WEP options and made sure the password was correct countless times and still I'm unable to connect to the wifi.

I spoke with a Dell representative, but all they suggested was to pay for another help service.

Connecting To Home Network Printer
My WIndows 7 decktop is part of a small home network. I can access files from the network form the Windows 7 computer but I cannot connect to the printer on the network. When I run the "add printer" wizard, it correctly lists the printers on the network, all of which are attached to one computer. Of the ones listed, only one is a real printer. The others are things like Adobe, or a fax printer. I successfully connected the Windows 7 to the "Adobe printer" but when I try to connect to the Lexmark printer, I get an error message, "0.0000000a".

Also when I try "view network computers" from the Windows XP where the printer is connected, it does not show the Windows 7 computer as part of the network. THe Windows 7 had been part of the network prior to installing Windows 7 when it had Windows XP and it had no problems. THe connection to the home network seems to have survived the upgrade to Windows 7 on the Windows 7 computer but not on the others.
