Install On HP DV5 1251nr
I've got a HP DV5 1251 nr laptop. Came with Vista. Has a D:Recovery partition.
I did the upgrade install last Friday. Took 3.5 hours. Went smooth.Â
But now I want to do the clean install. I have the Family Home Premium version of 7.Â
My question is; will I be able to pass the compliance check now that I have Win 7 and am basically reinstalling 7.
Also, what do I do with my Vista Recovery Partition? Leave it alone? Is the recovery partition involved with the compliance check? I do have a 3DVD set of downloaded HP Recovery discs as well.Â
Also if anyone knows about the SwSetup Directory that has all the HP Software - should I use that or just look for all the HP Win 7 components that apply.

HP Pavilion Dv5-1004nr
All but 1 drivers were installed for the HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr. The only driver that was missing was the ENE CIR infra-red received. Since it is a Microsoft e-home InfraRed received I think that the driver should be included by default. However, I managed to make it work by installing the Vista driver available.

HP DV5-1002US Performance
Nework connectivity is frequently questionable with frequent disconnects. Tonight I got a BSOD....something I haven't seen since my Windows XP days years ago. In the past 5 days of execution I also had a critical Kernel exception. Waiting for the next set of patches...but I may have to uninstall Windows 7 and move to WIndows XP if this does not resolve soon. I need a stable system and Windows 7 is less stable on this system then Vista has been.

HP DV5 Laptop - Driver Issues
Windows 7 installed without a hitch. After installation of Windows Vista 32-bit drivers it functions perfectly. It appears to be a very peppy system with really neat improvements. Windows One Care live won't install because it does not view Windows 7 as a 'verifiable Microsoft Windows' Operating system. I have been a part of the Windows Feedback Panel for at least 4 maybe 5 years. When Vista was in Beta testing I was chosen by Microsoft to be part of that group. Unfortunately in my view I was testing Vista on a Machine that ran Windows XP very well but was not capable of Hardware rigors of running Windows Vista. I have tried for about the last six months to become part of the Beta testing for Windows 7, especially because I think I might have a better idea of what to do.

HP Pavillion Dv5 1388 N Audio Problem
I purchased an HP Pavillion dv-5 1388n Entertainment Notebook PC. It came with Vista Home, and was deemed compatible for the Windows 7 upgrade, to Home Premium. I received the upgrade disc and installed it this past weekend. The install went smoothly with no errors during the 2+ hour process. All apps worked fine, but I discovered that I can hear no system sounds or play any audio via I-Tunes or Windows Media Player. I have checked the sound properties and all is fine. There are no updates needed for anything and I have tried updating my drivers. I even uninstalled the drivers and restarted the laptop to allow the laptop to find the correct drivers. When I try to play any audio file I get an error "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file". I tried to update the media and have even tried to download VLC Media Player with no success.

Upgrade Install Fails, Clean Install Is Fine - Same Hardware
When I try to do an upgrade install (from Vista Ultimate SP1 32-bit) it always fails toward the end of "migrating files, settings and programs" at about the 57% mark. The program says that it needs to reboot. The screen goes blank and it looks like it is rebooting, however the PC just sits there, the monitor goes to sleep (no video - either analog or DVI) so there is apparently not even a BIOS screen. There is no drive activity, yet the PC is still powered on. If I power off and on (or use the reset button), Windows 7 starts to load but eventually blue screens with the STOP error 0x0000007B, followed by (0x80598B68, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I know that the first error code usually refers to an inacessible boot disc. After several tries, it lets me boot, but just tells me that the install failed and is rolling back to Vista, which it does (rather well, I must say). However, if I do a "clean" install (whether or not choose to let Windows 7 wipe out the existing Vista partition), the install completes flawlessly.Apparently, Windows 7 is having problems migrating something (perhaps drivers?) from the existing Vista installation, but I don't know what. I've tried uninstalling a few various programs and hardware devices and their associated drives to no avail. Luckily, all of this testing is on a cloned drive, so no permanant damage. The hardware is exactly the same whether I do the upgrade or clean install. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas.Â

Network Printer Install Asks For Elevated Credentials To Install
i have installed Windows 7 Ultimate x86 on some spare hardware and trying to see how it behaves. one of the things that i have noticed is that when logged with a standard domain user account and trying to install a network printer that is published in Active Directory and managed from a print server the installation requires elevated credentials to finalize the installation. this was not the case with Windows XP and users would not be able to provide credentials with elevated privileges so the print install would fail. is there something that can be configured to allow a standard user to install a printer, and the associated drivers, that is published for instance, on a Windows Server 2003 R2 print server?

XP And 7 Install Issues (Won't Boot Into Win 7 Install)
I have XP SP2 installed. I used EASEUS Partition Master to split my drive in half, one half being XP, the other half being a future install of Windows 7. Put DVD in, selected the blank partition, began the install. Once it gets to the first reboot, it will reboot and go straight into XP. There is no option to choose Windows 7. The XP boot.ini has only one entry for XP. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking I need to add an entry for Windows 7, but have no clue what to put and I'm also guessing I'd have to add a few special tags because it's booting into the setup process of Win 7.

Install Error: INSTALL.WIM Does Not Exist
Just tried a "first time" install Win7 on an XP-loaded but am booting from CD/DVD and am expecting a "reformat" choice. I get to the "Install Setup" (or whatever it said) screen, I click it and (a few seconds later) I get "Windows could not collect information for [OSImage] since the specified file [INSTALL.WIM] does not exist". I've examined DVD on another system and "INSTALL.WIM" is on the DVD... under SOURCES.Test PC is a 2.53ghz Dell, 40gb HD but only has 768mb RAM. DVD is a DVD/CD-RW. Anyone have any ideas?? Could less-than-1gb RAM cause a totally off-beat error message?

Better To Upgrade Install Or Clean Install ?
I'm finding this decision quite hard to decide on and can't decide what to do. I am very picky about wasted space or unnecessary stuff on my hard drive, yet I'd rather not install everything all over again which will take about 20 hours or so. My question is...if I do an upgrade-install, can I just delete everything in the Windows.old folder and have everything practically the same as a clean install? Or will there be still be some left over things from the hundreds of programs I've installed and uninstalled? Edit: I've ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and everything seems ok.

Install Error, Now What Do I Do?
I'm trying to upgrade my Toshiba (Satellite) Vista to Windows 7 Home Prem. edition. Everything seemed to be going well until the end and I entered into (any) user account. Windows 7 started to prepare the user account...suddenly I get a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error...that's it...no help at all? Restarted and got the error Stop 0x000000A at about same place. Gee's, this was supposed to be a simple install now; stupid MSFT. I have 2 other computers I wanted to upgrade but now...?

BSOD After Install
After what seemed to be a successful upgrade from Vista Home Premium 64-bit to Windows 7 RC 64-Bit, my computor BSOD's on the frist restart after displaying "System is Starting Services" (See attached pictures) The odd part is I then partitioned off my hard drive and did a clean install of 7, which worked great. Troubleshooting I have done: -Uninstalled all programs and drivers that conflicted with compatibility report -re-downloaded and burned the install disc -tried installing the windows 7 beta as opposed to the rc -disabled my video drivers

Error During Install
I was installing windows with a clean install and everything went smooth. The installation got to "completing installation" and after about 15 minutes, i heared few "beeps" from the computer (not the speakers). the computer restarted itself and then installed the registery files... after that, it went to a blue screen with a flower (like in the start of the install) and said: "Starting Services ". after about a 4 seconds, it said: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click OK to restart the computer, and then restart the installation" when i clicked on "OK" the computer restarted it self and repeat to show the message. i tried to redownload and reburn but it repeat it self, both 64bit ver. and 32bit ver. so it isnt a corrupted file. i got no other OS on my computer, because after 4 years my computer started to slow down, so everyone told me to format, so i formated the computer and wanted to install windows 7 so i got no other computer to play games on (im using a old laptop right now). can anybody help?

Install Keeps Rebooting
I am trying to install Windows 7. I put in the DVD and the installation starts. It expands the windows files then says it needs to reboot. It reboots and goes through the whole process again, says it needs to reboot and it keeps going in circles. I did this three times with the same results. I tried rebooting from the hard drive with the DVD not in the drive and nothing happened. What is going on?

BUG_USB_DRIVER - RC Install
When my computer reaches the end of the first section of the RC1 (64-bit) install, it doesn't reboot when it says it will. Instead, it sits for a while, and then gives me an error (BSOD) with the error code BUG_USB_DRIVER. The only USB device I have plugged in is the receiver for my (MIcrosoft) wireless keyboard and mouse. If I reboot the computer, it continues with the install but gets stuck at the Completing installation stage. Anybody have any ideas?

Install Old Applications
Love the OS and I am searching for new ways to test it so I decided to just go for it and try to install some of my old applications. The result is that I am doing a new 7 install. What I tried: I wanted to try out Adode CS3,no go could not fin a certin dll file, not a problem Adobe said it woul not work anyway. I could not get a Vista instructional Cd (from lynda.com) to play with Media player so I had the bright idea to install VLC from uberdownloads. As soon as I started the download my Norto virus protection (beta version) came up and said "you are one of the first to select this download we suggest you give us more time to check things out" Well Uberdownloads assured me that it was safe so I selected install. Norton would not give up,it repeatedly interupted the download so I selected stop the download. When the dust cleared VLC was installed but did not work and I could not access my browser or do anything online (like Rhapsody which does work perfectly). I thought I would manually remove VLC,no go I could not access control panel, things are getting bad I thought. I decided to do a system restore. It ran for about 15min but came back saying it could not perform a system restore. My OS reinstall is just about complete. So I ask for tips on what Applications I can install and check-out. System specs AMD anthlon X2 250 (dual core 3.0ghz) 8gb DDR3 ASUS M4A78T-E motherboard, using onboard video for now.
