Mail To Windows Live Mail - Import Incomplete
I have - quite stupidly, as I now think - installed Windows Seven on my old Vista on my Laptop without thinking about the Mail program at all. That is: neither did I make a backup nor did I export contact lists from Windows Mail, etc. I was, however, able to import most of the stuff from Windows Mail into Windows Live Mail anyway. I took ownership of both Windows Mail folders (in C:Program Files and C:Program Files(x86) including subs 'n files, and tried the import function in Windows Live Mail - three times, I think. I can't really tell whether or not all my messages are there, yet I can say for sure that what I find in the Storage Folders section in Windows Live Mail reproduces only a part of the filing system I had established in Windows Mail. That is to say: A lot of the folders I used to have in Windows Mail are simply missing. Are the messages that used to be in there missing, too? No idea so far... they might be in the Inbox or somewhere else. To be sure, I have everything, that is: all my messages, on my webmail-account. Yet it took me forever to work out my huge filing system (including all the message rules, etc.) in Windows Mail which allows me to have more folders than my webmail account that is for some reason limited to 258 folders. So even although I know that in the end I do have all the messages on my webmail, I would just hate to have to do all that work again! Thus I'd just love to "simply" get my Webmail stuff imported as it was. Any ideas what I might have done wrong? ...what I could do to retrieve the missing folders? Alternatively: Is there any way to "simply" (I know what you're thinking...) reactivate Windows Mail in Windows 7 so that I can start over by properly exporting everything from there? I have found some related topics but did not see anyone having this particular problem. If I simply overlooked it, sorry! At any rate: I'd appreciate any help you can offer!

Can't Import Messages Into Windows Mail
I have had Windows Mail up and running since day one of installing Windows 7 but I just tried to import our messages(Inbox, Sent, Draftes ect...) into it but it doesn't see the files in the saved folders. All files and folders were succesfully saved via Export Messages in Vista's Windows Mail. I also tried finding the folders manually within Windows Mail in Windows 7 thinking I could just copy and past the messages into the files but couldn't find them(thought like vista it would be in the hidden "Application Data" folder but it was not...

Unable To Import - Windows Live Mail
Is it just me or are you not able to import accounts into Live Mail. I have just done a fresh install for Win 7 RTM (was on RC) and I exported my mail accounts beforehand using Live Mail using the export option from the menu. However, upon reinstalling there is no import options for accounts only Messages?? Why have an export option without having an import option... Is there a way around this.

Import From Outlook To Windows Live Mail
I downloaded the new wdos mail program. After discovering there was no way to import my contacts, old emails, calendar from Outlook, I removed the program. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or have I missed something. Would like to try the new mail program to see if it's an improvement.

How To Import Windows Mail Into Windows Live ?
I have tried to import my Vista Windows mail box into Windows 7 Livemail on the 4 betas that have been available on the net. It has been afailure each time. At least not the way I would expect.I exported the messages - sent, draft, deleted, inbox - to an USBdevice. I then imported from the USB device into Windows Live mail. Toexport 30,000 messages takes about 3 hours. When the import to Livemail, say the sent items, the new sent items are now imported into afolder 3 levels down, Same for deleted items, etc, Why?

Importing Mail From Outlook To Windows Live Mail
This is quite a complex operation and MS doesn't actually explain how to do it so here goes. The trick is to get your email messages into Outlook Express (OE on XP) or Windows Mail (on Vista) before you can import into Windows Live mail. Then the import can be done directly. There isn't any way currently to import mail directly from Outlook to Windows Live Mail so you have to do it indirectly BEFORE installing Windows 7. 1) even if you don't use Outlook Express (XP) or Windows Mail (VISTA) you need to have them running on the same machine as your copy of OUTLOOK. 2) create (if you haven't already) email accounts in OE or Windows mail identical to those you have in Outlook. 3) Now import your messages from Outlook into OE or Windows Mail. 4) Change the Store Identity in OE or Windows mail to a disk that your Windows 7 can read (do this under Maintenance - data storage locations in OE or Windows Mail). Doing this saves you having to install Live Mail on Vista or XP 5) Logon to your Windows 7 system and install Windows Live mail. 6) Set up your email accounts 7) File ==> import==>messages 8) Chose Outlook express or Windows mail depending on step 3) 9) Browse to the directory where you stored the messages in step 4) 10) Job done. A bit fiddly but obviously MS don't want to make it easy for people to switch from Outlook Note also the "Send and Receive" function is calles "SYNC" in Windows Live mail -- confusing but there it is. If you also installed Windows Messenger you can prevent it from starting automatically at startup by going to the Orb ==>acessories==>run. type msconfig and unclick windows messenger in the start up box. There doesn't appear to be ANY method of importing mail directly from Outlook 2003/2007.

Windows Mail Messages Into Live Mail
I upgraded my wife's computer from Vista to Windows 7 yesterday. Before starting the process I copied old Vista info to a second drive. I did not realize that Windows 7 did not utilize Windows Mail before starting the upgrade process (dummy me!). In proceeding through the Dell provided upgrade disks, I selected Upgrade as my option. Now, I am not able to Import my old Windows Messages into Windows Live Mail. The upgrade process created a folder called Windows.old and I have my separately saved Vista info on my other drive. My question is if the old Windows Mail messages are there specifically what folder do they reside in either of the two (or both) locations, and how do I get them into my Live Mail history. Seems like there should be a way to do this, but it is not as simple as the canned instructions for importing e-mail.

Any ideas (did get any of those on my vista for over a year)

Use VISTA Windows Mail In Win7
a little tip here as I HATE webmail based type of email clients. I was quite happy with Outlook express and Windows mail. This tip works on both X-86 and x-64 versions. 1) Take ownership of the windows mail folder (it's in program files or program files (x86) depending which version of W7 you are running. 2) delete contents of the folder. 3) copy your old VISTA windows mail folder to the windows mail folder on W7 4) make a shortcut link to winmail.exe 5) set up your accounts like on Vista / Outlook express in XP 6) enjoy.

Windows Mail And Windows Live Mail Problems
I installed Win7 over Vista Ult 64 bit as an upgrade after getting a DVD from DELL. Immediately I noticed that there was no Windows Mail and I read in an introduction that email client is no longer provided with Windows. I need a pop3 client app in my machine and much prefer to keep the same setup, meaning I want to have Widnows Mail. There is an option to click on Windows Live Mail which I don't really like since it is web based and not that convenient. I clicked on that and opened the page in web browser. Everything was steel frozen. I could not open any boxes, including Inbox. Also the vertical scroll did not work at all.How can I get Windows Mail for my machine. I believe it should be available for download somewhere.

Importing Mail Accounts From Live Mail To Outlook 2007
After a clean install of Windows 7, I installed Office 2007. I also installed Windows Live Mail not to use it as an e-mail client, but only as an intermediate to import mail accounts. Therefore, I imported all my many e-mail accounts to Windows Live Mail from previously saved IAF files. Until here all worked as expected. The problem is that now, when I try to "Import internet mail account settings" from Windows Live Mail to Outlook it just answers "No internet accounts were found to import". How come? Can someone please instruct me on how to overcome this problem, please?

Mail To Live Mail - Imported Messages
I imported messages etc from the WindowsMail folder of my old Vista PC. They were all imported to LiveMail, and if I do a search for a particular word, they come up. But - I cannot find them anywhere in WindowsLiveMail. I've searched and seached. They are not in 'Imported Folders' - or any other folder. All folders are empty. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Is there any way I can click on a message that comes up in Search, and find where it is? I did try to install Windows Mail in 7, but was unsuccessful. I wonder if this is the cause of the problems. Has anyone done this succesfullly?

Live Mail - Leaving Mail On Server
Over the weekend I have installed W7 with no reported problems - anf generally pretty impressed with the RC. As W7 dosen't come with an email client, I installed Windows Live Mail. All works well but have noticed that after retreiving mail from my IPs mail server it leaves the mail on the server as 'read' and requires me to log in via webmail to clear the inbox. Is this a known issue?

Live Mail - Mail Store Location
I'm looking at potentially deploying Windows 7 to my home network but there are few concerns I have. One is a bug in the folder view/settings, which for all intents and purposes, given M$'s history of not fixing things, may result in me never upgrading. But what leads me here tonight is questions regarding WIndows (live) Mail. Will/is the mail store in Windows Live Mail located on my local machine? Are all of the rules, calendar entries and contacts stored on my local machine, or are they store on some remote system.Sorry if this is a dumb question. But this is a show stopper. I would never consider upgrading if all of my mail is stored outside my system. I can't control it. I can't back it up etc.
