Icons In Device Manager Issue After Installation Of USB Device Drivers

We had a (small) issue when installing our USB device driver on Windows 7 RC. I downloaded the newest WDK, created and signed with Authenticode a new cat file including the new OS, and built a simple installer for installing the drivers.

We used the recommended functions like CryptCATAdminAcquireContext, CryptCATAdminAddCatalog, CryptCATAdminReleaseCatalogContext and CryptCATAdminReleaseContext as well as SetupCopyOEMInf.

We created a new device class and therefore the drivers appeared in the device manager as "unknown devices". We added the registry keys for displaying the mini icon for "USB devices". This worked pretty well on Vista64.  Using the same installer script on Windows 7 (64-bit) still showed the "unknown devices" in the device manager.

As we have to prepare now our installers to be compatible with Windows 7 and we need to know if this is a bug or if there exists a workaround.

Hidden Device In Device Manager Blocking Upgrade
When running a Windows 7 RC1 UPGRADE installation (From Vista Business), everything went well until (as far as I could tell) the final boot into the new OS. A BSOD restart occurred twice, and the system then reverted back to Vista (Props to Microsoft for that - there was was a time when this kind of error would have left me with a dead computer).

I tried it again the next day, but this time a Windows 7 Upgrade Update was available, and the system would not allow the upgraded due to an "HP USB Sync" incompatible driver. It was suggested that I upgrade this driver.

AT&T Communication Manager Disables USB Device
I have an AT&T LaptopConnect (GT Ultra Express) 3G wireless card and after installing the embedded AT&T Communication Manager software on Windows 7 Beta and RC (just released) after rebooting all but two USB devices (in Device Manager) are disabled.

Symptom:

After a reboot (or hibernate wake), USB devices like my Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 dongle or (any of my three) external USB drives are not recognized. The work around is to, after a reboot or wake, in Device Manager, delete all disabled USB devices (one by one) and then Scan for Hardware Changes to force it to recognize the devices.

This happened on Windows 7 Beta (7000) also but I didn't recognize that it was only after installing the AT&T Communication Manager (with the card). I've been cruising along with RC since Saturday and only today needed to use the wireless card. Immediately after the install and required reboot my mouse wasn't recognized on start and as before the USB devices were in a disabled state.

I should, however, point out that the card works and I can get 3G speeds. This is a major inconvenience as my machine hibernates after closing the lid; as a consultant that happens many times a day.

Unidentified Device In Device Manager
I installed win 7 premium the other day and it seemed to go fairly smoothly. after installation, however, I have a device that is not recognized in the device manager and can't find out what the actual device is because there are absolutely no identifying remarks. So far, all the components seem to be functioning with the exception of the eHome ir receiver which decides to stop working after about an hour. Can anyone suggest how to find out what this mystery component is?

you can find a picture of the icon here:

i suspect that the icon database is screwed up.

same on two machines --both with ultimate, one 3, the other 64.

can't figure it out.

Why When Uninstall Drivers In Device Manager Automatically Reinstall Later ?
I have windows 7 RC 64.  I have 2 4850's in CF on an asus p5e3 deluxe.  I've been experiencing random blue screens, and after running diagnostics on mem, HD and PSU I've concluded the most likely cause is the microsoft drivers that automatically install for my 2 ATI cards in Crossfire.

I get a blue screen when I try to install the drivers from ATI's .exe, and when I try to update the drivers from device manager to ATI's most recent 9.7 ccc I'm told that I already have the most up to date drivers.

So I'm trying to uninstall the drivers through device manager, including the hdmi hd audio, but by the time I uninstall all of them and try to run ATI's .exe the drivers automatically update again.  Which is really frustrating.  Why would drivers that I manualy uninstall just reinstall 30 seconds later?

Device Manager Reports Unknown Device & Explorer Crash
How do i figure out what driver or even component windows wants software for when in the device manager under other devices it lists an unknown device and windows update cannot find anything.

Oh and is it appropriate for me to use this topic to ask another question regarding explorer.exe as while i am inside a folder i delete (by choosing delete from the context menu in the tree view) while inside that folder on this particular laptop PC explorer. always crashes, collect information, sends it and restarts explorer. I have not experienced this problem on any other pc running any version of windows 7, oh and the same happened with build 7264 x32 and the current install of build 7600 x64.

W7 Installation: Device Drivers Not Found
I bought a W7 Home Premium, the discounted version for students, and I'm trying to install it on my Acer 6930G (500GB, ram 4GB, ...right stuff for W7).

I'm actually running W Vista x86, and I know that in order to run W7 x64 (the one I bought) I must do a custom installation from the boot. And I'm doing so, well trying to...

After the window asking for my location and keyboard input, I continue but then I get stuck.

A new window pops up asking me for a device driver...it stated "device driver not found"...

I read a lot on the internet, but that's driving me mad...

how can I solve the problem and having that OS running?!

I'm going to sue Microsoft if that OS is not gonna run... xD

No Device Drivers In The Installation Media
I just downloaded the iso file from microsoft site, then popped it in the cd/dvd drive. When the installation was just about to start, I get this msg saying: "There's no device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK"

Can anybody help me understand why these drivers are not included in the iso file I downloaded from MS? What should I do now?

Base System Device Drivers Not Installed After Win 7 Pro 64 Bit Clean Installation
I've just clean installed Win 7 Pro 64 bit on a Dell Inspiron 640m laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 processor (original OS was Vista Ultimate). All appears to have gone well but on checking Device Manager there's a Base System Device entry in Other Devices group which is showing an exclamation mark. On opening this entry it shows "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" Clicking Update Driver and searching the Internet fails to locate a driver.

I didn't install an Intel chipset after the Win 7 install (this computer is almost 3 years old and Dell haven't provided a chipset for Win 7 so I'm assuming chipset support is included in Win 7 out of the box).Could anyone advise if the above is likely to cause any significant problems?

Not Loading USB Device Drivers On Lenovo T61
I just installed Windows 7 RC 64-bit on a Lenovo T61 laptop (model 6463-5BU). All of the device drivers loaded successfully, with the exception of the USB drivers. It won't detect any USB devices, and when I go to Device Manager, all of the USB controllers give the following error: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)". I tried uninstalling and updating drivers, but it says it has the latest version. Any suggestions?

Find Driver In Device Manager
What would my back panel e-sata controller be listed as in device manager?

It's not controlled by the PCH on my P55 board. It's controlled by a J-Micron chip that also controls two of my other SATA ports on my motherboard. (I think) I may have 3 SATA controllers))

I am trying to find out which driver I have now so I can update it. Which one of these would it be? (if any)

Network Adapter Not Showing In Device Manager
I upgraded from XP to Windows 7. There was no network adapter listed in the device manager at first. I went into add legacy hardware, and first it gave me options for Intel and Microsoft adapters. Playing with that, I finally got an Unknown Device to show in Device Manager. I was able to select a manufacturer for it (Nvidia), so now I have the Nvidia nForce Network Controller showing in my Device manager, with a yellow exclamation sign on it.

The error message is This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. I have tried downloading the most recent drivers (15.51), same result. I tried the drivers that were slightly older (both 15.35 and 15.23) and same results. I have tried going into the windows.old for the drivers when it was on XP, and same result. I have a wired connection.  Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

The adapter is a Nvidia nForce 5 series.

IEEE 1394 Bus Controller In Device Manager
Compaq CQ5107C PC, AMD Athlon X2 7550 Dual Core. Upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 32 bit Home Premium.

My 4-mos old computer only has one place for plug and play devices, so I removed the fax/dial up card and replaced it with a new ieee 1394 trendnet 3-port firewire card. The drivers are up to date, but it will not work. I looked at the properties in the Device Manager and it said the following:

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

I have no clue why there is not enough free resources unless, of course, the computer is still hanging onto my fax device somewhere. I don't know how to find that to disable it (because I don't know what it was called nor do I see anything that remotely sounds like it would have to do with that -- other than my Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator) ,

And if I can't find that, are there any tips as to what device to remove. I can remove a USB, but I don't know which one or ones will lose capability if I disable one of the many listed in the device manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Other than that, the only category of devices that has more than one to choose from is: system devices, and those are all foreign to me.

Explorer Does Not Display Drives Although Present In Device Manager
I am using a dual boot system to try out Windows 7 RC. I have two IDE drives and a SATA drive. I have installed Windows 7 on the SATA drive. The other two discs (one is Windows XP Pro and other programs and the other is for all my data) dont show up in Windows 7 explorer but do show in the device manager and in the disk management part of Windows 7. In the Disc management, the IDE discs show as online but have no drive letters.

Disk 1 232.88 GB online Healthy (Active Primary Partion) 8MB Unallocated This is the data disk (see above)

Disk 2 This shows the details of the SATA drive that Windows 7 is installed on.

If I right click I am only given an option to delete the drives. (other options greyed out). Clearly I dont want to re-format or delete either of the disks, how do I solve this problem? Thanks in anticipation.

Device Manager Nvidia Update Driver Issue
Don't know why but- I decided I would try and use the device manager and find updated driver- which was not very useful-

My default install on my emachine was Nvidia 195.-  but when I did the update driver it loaded Nvidia 194 - Which caused all kinds of issues- like no control panel- and also limited video resolution to 640x768-  I ended up fixing the issue by downloading the latest nvidia driver-...

Why would windows grab an early version of the file-  If I had version 195 with a later date than the one on windows it should have shown that there was not one available.

I just installed a new HDD (Samsung 1.5TB Silencer Series 32M) today, when i was running windows 7 RC1 64bit just plugged it in and worked fine, formated it with device manager and the works. So, I coppied my important files from my main hard drive(Western Digital Velociraptor 300gig) onto the new one. Once that was done I did a fresh install of Windows 7 This time it was Ultimate 64 bit seeming I just bought it.

When I went to install windows 7, it didnt show the new Hdd there but I thought what the heck, i was going to be installing it on my old HDD anyways. So, Ive now installed windows 7 but My second hard drive is no were to be found. Its showing up in Bios tho in sata port 9 where it is connected. but its not showing up anywhere else ?
