Getting Win 7 RC To Work Properly With A DVI Monitor

I know the beta would not connect properly to a DVI display, meaning no vga <-> dvi adapters. it simply would not display on a straight dvi display.

Anyone having better luck with the RC. before i go through the process of the install i'm hoping to see someone with some good news.

If MS can get that part right i'll be the first guy with cash in hand at the store...

Vista Work Properly, Win 7 No, On Same Hardware
on my pc with Vista Home Premium I installed in dual-boot Windows 7 RTM on a dedicated partition. While Vista works perfectly for two years, never a blue screen, never crashes, W7 does not want to work. Gave me now a blue screen error, now another one. Then I tried to install it, leaving only the original Ram removing the RAM added by me, I disconnected the USB stick, and everything worked beautifully. I left the PC on for a whole day installing programs, antivirus, various tools, all ok!

The day after I entered the second bank of memory and the problems begin: Errors "PCI Express", Pc locked, BSOD frequently. Why with the same hardware Vista is practically perfect and with W7 crashes? I downloaded the drivers from the mainboard site, from the site of the video card, but not useless.

DVI Monitor
I really love native resolution, but you can only go up to 1024x768 with a VGA monitor. Does anyone know where I could get a DVI monitor for, say, under $150 thats 15" or above?

Network And Sharing Doesn't Work Properly
I have a Windows 7 laptop connected via a WRT54G2 wireless router to an XP SP3 desktop. Both the laptop and desktop can see shared resources and both can connected to the internet.

In the Laptop's Network and Sharing Center, however, things are not correct. The Laptop has two connections to the router, lan and wireless. The lan's connection appears OK, but I cannot generate a map. I get "Windows cannot discover any computer or device." The wireless network is public.

I don't know why and I don't know how to change it. Also, when I try to create a new network connection, the laptop sees only a WRT160N router (which I don't have; perhaps I did a while ago, when the laptop ran Vista). No place to add a new one.

I have Cisco's Network Magic and it can correct see everything, including the right router.

Dual Monitor - GF 8800GTS 650M 512MB DDR3 DUAL DVI TV PCIE
I was having a problem with dual monitor using 7127 build. But only when I use newest NVIDIA drivers. My tv just flashes a few times, and I can see that fish a couple of times, but then it just goes to like no signal. If I use default drivers which are installed on windows install, then it works fine, but then I dont have NVIDIA control panel and some other features.

My video card is GF 8800GTS 650M 512MB DDR3 DUAL DVI TV PCIE. I would like to know if anyone else is having this problem and If it has been fixed in the newest build, so I could be arsed to do a clean install.

Switching A Monitor Between VGA & DVI-D Digital ?
As I posted in the monitors forum, I am having problems with a new LG W2053 TQ monitor. Being used with a new HP Pavillion Elite PC. Great picture, but just can't get any of the OSD or configuration screens to appear.

It has those touch sensitive buttons on the front. Have tried everything, but they never appear on the screen no matter how I press them (quickly, tapped, held for several seconds, etc.)

Other than that, the monitor is great.

Have it hooked up with a DVI-D cable for a digital connection, rather than VGA.

Was wondering if perhaps to get these OSD screens to appear, the monitor needs, and uses somehow, the analog VGA cable for this. So, thought I'd give it a try. Now have both cables in place.

But, I'm reasonably sure that the PC is still using the DVI-D digital cable for its output to the PC. Looked in all (I think all) the monitor related screens in Windows 7 but can't find where it is.

a. Is there an option in Windows 7, somewhere, to tell Windows7 which to use, and to switch the output spigots between VGA and DVI-D going to the monitor ?

b. Or, any thoughts as to why the config OSD screens won't appear would also be most appreciated.

Dual Monitor - Edge Resizing Doesn't Work On Inner Quarters
I have been very successful with my Windows 7 beta installation. My main issue at this point is that when using my dual monitor setup (which worked perfectly right out the box) with my Nvidia 8800GT video card, is that the edge effects (resizing window to half screen) does not work for the left side of the right screen and the right side of the left screen – AKA the middle of the 2 monitors.

This is quite a deal breaker since I can get half screen windows on the outer extremes of my monitors but not in the middle therefore negating the effect of the excellent feature.

Dual Dvi Or Not
I purchased the following card: EVGA GeForce 9400 GT Video Card - 1GB DDR2, PCI (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, VGA, Low Profile

It says dual dvi, but in fact was only one dvi and one vga. I have to purchase PCI and not PCI-E for my work pc - ugh.

So...

Does anyone know of a good performance PCI video card with two DVI connections?

DVI Connection Not Default At Startup
I upgraded to Windows 7, 2 weeks ago and have a Nvidia GTX275 running the system. The problem I am having is, that when I turn on my PC, I get a picture on the monitor all the way up till the logo, once it's finished loading I get NO SIGNAL on my monitor. On the back of my 275 I have 1x VGA, 1x DVI and 1x HDMI ports. Windows 7 thinks that the VGA port is the default, when I have my monitor plugged in via DVI, so of course the screen is blank. Found the standard NVIDIA drivers that come with Windows 7 seem to give me the least amount of grief, because after bootup, I simply pull the DVI cable out and then put it back in and the desktop shows up (Windows makes its "Somethings connected" sounds).

I tried the latest driver from NVIDIA, but the second I reboot, it's screwed. People have been complaining about this since Windows Vista, and NVIDIA nor Microsoft have come up with a solution. The DVI port is bi-directional, so it is telling Windows there is a connected monitor, but Windows is adament that the VGA plug should be showing something instead.

This didn't happen with Windows XP with the same card.

Suggestions? Help?

Problems With DVI/D-SUB Video Output
First I watched movies and used pc fine, but I guess it was next time I tried to watch some movies, things got pretty weird. I connected pc to projector via DVI to HDMI cable. My htpc windows user doesn't have aero, so desktop picture was excellent. As soon as I opened video file using any player (MP, MPC HC, ZoomPlayer), the whole screen will randomly start bugging out. Lots of whole screen wide green or red lines apper and ghost pictures etc really freak stuff starts to happen.

As soon as I closed video player, things got back to normal and picture is just great. I tried VGA picture via D-SUB, but it gives same result (and I can't get good/clear picture at all via D-SUB...). Then I switch to other user which has Aero in use. Well, picture gets buggy all the time (event I didn't start to play any video file) until I turned off the Aero.

Cabels and projector are ok 'cos I tested them with another source and no problem. I quess if things got bad after I installed Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, but I don't have any proofs. I'm just guessing that that was something I had differently in windows since the last time I watched movies. I also installed X700 drivers again but it didn't help.

When I play video files via DVI or D-SUB connected to my Samsung SyncMaster 225BW LCD monitor, there is no problem. Anyone else heard or had anything like this? Any ideas what to do to get video out to work again?

OS: Windows 7 Professional RTM 64bit
PC: Acer Ferrari 4600, 2gb ram, ATI Mobility X700
Projector: Panasonic PT-AE700
Used resolution: 1280x720, and several others, but it didn't matter

No Signal On Boot With Samsung HDTV Over DVI/HDMI
I have done some searching but to no avail. I have tried everything I can find/think of with absolutely no luck.

I have a brand new Samsung LN46B750 which I have connected to my desktop for use as an HTPC. VGA works fine, but I would much prefer to use a digital connection. SO, I have an HDMI <> DVI adapter and a monoprice HDMI cable connecting my GeForce 6800 to the HDMI/DVI port on the HDTV.

I have tried 182.5 and the latest Nvidia drivers as well as the generic Windows 7 drivers. It's all the same.

Everything works fine in the OS so long as I make it past the Windows splash screen. And unfortunately, that never happens. I believe that the problem lies in the auto adjustment of the screen when 7 starts loading. (If I boot without the TV connected, and then connect after the splash screen has loaded, everything is perfect.)

Is there any way to disable the auto detection/adjustment of the TV and just have the OS always boot into 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz. I am really tired of the blank or black screen every time I reboot. This is a terrible bug with Windows 7 or EDID and it needs to be fixed now Microsoft!

Will WD Passport Work With Win 7 ?
I have a Western Digital Passport #WDME1600TE (refurbished), it's drive size is 160GB, (149GB usable), at least that's what it showed in XP Pro. I currently have a XP Pro backup on it that I don't even have the laptop for anymore. I never really understood the way the thing worked. You plugged it in, logged on like you would a PC, then you could either use it the way it was (even on another's computer), or you could "sync" at any time.

I did "sync" my deceased laptop on it, but not all files were copied. I could visually see which files were and were not being copied. Fortunately, I never had to use the backup that was created on it.

Is there other software that I could install on this external drive that would make it simple to use. All I want to do is create a backup, not carry it around and use it on everyone else's computer. And I want ALL of my files to be copied. I hope that this post is understandable and that someone knows what I'm talking about.

Finding Drivers That WILL Work With Win 7
i am having trouble getting this crappy Wireless USB Adapter to work Ativa Wireless-G USB Network Adapter. I have the latest Beta* Vista Drivers from there site. Their support is complete crap. The FAQ say the supplied Drivers will work with Vista and they don't. I had to download the freaking 93MB Driver File and i had to enter Windows Vista and windows 7 with Option "Disable driver signature enforcement" to install them and i HAVE to stay in that mode at all times.

Trying to boot into Windows 7 the Device's Driver don't work cause they are not Digitally Signed. Any help in fixing this or finding other Drivers would be great! It's a pain having to enter that mode every time i have to restart.

Which GPS Hardware Is Known To Work With Win 7 ?
I want to play around with the new location support of Windows 7, maybe try writing a gadget or two.
I have an old GPS unit (Royaltek RTG-2000) that apparently does not get recognized as a sensor, so I guess I'll have to buy a newer one. I tried to find a list of GPS hardware known to work, but couldn't really find anything.

Does anyone know about a compatibility list like this? Alternatively, if you got GPS working with Windows 7, I'd love to read about your experiences/suggestions.

Does An NDIS 5.1 Miniport Work Under Win 7 ?
In the past I have been responsible for the Orinoce Wireless drivers. At this moment I am trying to get my driver working under Windows 7. I still have all the source code, so I can easily debug.
What I am seeing at this moment is the following: to access the orinoco adapter, io-ports are being used. registration etc during start-of-day all seems to work fine.

There is one register that is r/w, it simply latches the information written to it. When I write a certain value to that register, reading back always gives me 0xFFFF (and not the value I wrote to it). It almost seems as if the adapter is 'not enabled' (as PCMCIA adapter have to be via the Configuration Register. This enabling is normally an action performed by the OS (certainly up to Vista).

Firts question is: should a regular NDIS 5.1 driver (which is functional for XP and Vista) work for Windows 7 ?

If indeed the adapter is not 'enabled', what options do I have to achieve this.

Why Win 7 32 Bit Does Not Work With 4 Gb Ram ?
Today i have upgradet my ram memory by repleasing my exsisting 1 GB pices with 2 x 2 gb to use dual chanell. Windwows 7 rcognized the new memory but uses only 3 GB. To use all 4 GB should I go to 64 Bit version of Windows 7? I use my PC mostly for gaming so I am reluctent to switch beacouse of compatibiliti issues.

Curently i have instaled Fallout 3, Mass Efect, Red Alert 3, Prototype, but also older games like Diablo 2 and even older for wich i use Dos Box like colonizatino or imperialism. Also i have conected my PC with LCD TV through DVI to HDMI cable for HD Movies 720i, 1080i and 1080p. My configuration is as follows Inte Core 2 Duo 6420, Asrock 4Core 1600 Twins P35, 4 Gb Ram, 2 x WD HDD 160 GB raid edition (but not conected in RAID conection) and 1 Hitachy HDD 500 Gb also purchased today, 9600 GT 512 Mb Palit graphix and 5.1 speakers.

I use K-lite cdecs pack for .mkv videos and Power DVD 9 for hardware acceleratinon for HD .avi movies. If I switch to 64 Bit would I be able to enjoy my PC like i describet? And if I dont whill the games have benefit from the RAM?

Keyboard Does Not Work After Install Win 7
On 10/25 I downloaded Windows 7 and it turned out to be a big mistake. I lost all of my files except for the ones I put on my flash drive (now I will take the blame for this part because I did not know I had to back-up my stuff) I thankfully still had my office 2007 disc and at first.

I was able to use office 2007 without the product key, but I just now retrieved my product key from the office team but it seems to be to late for it will no longer ask me for it and no longer allow me to use Office at all [it will load up but will not allow to type anything].

The worst part about this is that I am taking online classes at University of Phoenix and cannot do my work. Another major problem is that my (C) drive is completely full now and I do not have room for anything outside of Adobe and Office.
