Difference Between Map Network Drive And Add A Network Location
In "Computer" what is the difference between "Map Network Drive" and "Add a Network Location"? In Windows XP you just mapped a drive and entered your credentials, what is this new feature?

Add Network Location Wizard Does Not Add
I was trying to connect to an FTP site. I go to add a network location (wizard) Choose FTP site (custom) Specify User Name and Password if Required Screen: BUG (unless I am doing this wrong): If I specify a user name, and finish the installer, the network place is never created. Workaround: If I leave the default option (log on anonymously) and continue through it, it will create the network location. I should then be able to log in when I open the network location. Except for that handle bug. This bug affects Windows XP (I still have this problem in SP3), and perhaps vista also.

Can't Add Network Location With Http Address
I'm trying to add a network place in Windows 7. When I go through the wizard and it asks me to "Specify the location of your website" I put in http://www.example.com ...then I get the error message: "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another."When I used Windows XP I could add a network place with http://www.example.com and then it would just ask me to enter my user id and password after that. Can someone tell me what I can do to add my network place in Windows 7?

Freecom Network Drive: Can't Map The Drive So No Drive Letter Is Assigned
I'm having difficulty connecting to my 250GB Freecom Network Drive (Model no. SSLABC) using Windows 7 RC. I had the same problem with Windows 7 Beta. I have set up shared folders and been given a code too (for the network). I can get into the Network Drive OK. When you open the mapped drive page it is blank. There is no list of drives to choose. Therefore I can't assign a drive letter to it. Is there another way to do it? Freecom hadn't any experience of Windows 7 yet. I can access the drive through it's http:// adress but can't access any data on the drive itself.

Map Network Drive On Different Domain
So, I'm connected to my college network via VPN and would like to map a network drive. When I try to access the share on the network form 'RUN', it sure does ask me the username/password credentials, but I understand the domain is the problem here. The domain it's trying to use is apparently wrong and I'm not able to change it. Any ideas? The domain it's giving is Domain : <Windows 7 system username>-PC Which is not what I want. I'm not able to change it as well Oh nevermind, I just gave the domain name as part of the username and it worked! For example : username : Campususerid

Unable To Map A Network Drive
I am trying to map a network drive with an address, It's basically a folder on the school network, I can access this folder and view its contents perfectly fine through an internet browser, but when I try to map a network drive to it, it doesn't work, I keep getting errors like this: A device attached to the system is not functioning Why do I keep getting this message? And why am I able to access that folder through a browser but not through windows? I am using Windows 7 btw.

I'm trying to user WebDrive on Windows 7 RC Bulid 7100 and i'm getting the following error when trying to connect to an FTP connection. can't map network drive: (1204) The specified network provider name is invalid WebDrive is a well know program that maps FTP connections as if they were removable drives. It works fine on Vista and XP. Any ideas?

i can't map a normal network drive from internet: http://domain/folder. I always did it from Xp and Vista, but under Windows 7 it does not function even if i do the same way. when i finishe the map drive connect proced i get the connected internet drive icon - but it does not open, and soes not rispond on any click.

Map Network Drive Fails To Retain Password After Reboot
I have Win 7 ver 6.1 (build 7600) on Desktop and I have a Linux server. I don't use a password to logon to windows. I successfully mapped Linux drives using my Linux user (which happens to be the same as the windows user) but on Linux I have a password. All the mappings were OK (4 directories) asking me on each one username + password + ticking the box called "retain credentials". All went OK until I rebooted, then a message pop-up that "could not reconnect all network drives"...appeared: => the old stupid message from win XP. Ok I opened My computer and surprise: My user and my password from the sharing pop-up window were gone! I've inserted them again and all went OK. I thought they solved the old windows XP problem which clears the user + password from the Network drive mapping IF you do not have the SAME password as the mapped drives. What can I do to retain that User+Password combination for good in Win 7 Mapping?

I curently RDC to my work computer and run the program I need from the work computer and just rely on the screen redrawing. Entered Wrong Password, Now Can't Map Network Drive
I have set up a Windows 7 machine that shares out a hard drive as a network share along with printers to our network. On another computer I was mapping the network drive and accidentally entered the wrong credentials (wrong user name) and choose the remember credentials setting, and it would not let me map the drive. I tried to go back in and remap the drive again but Windows is remembering the user name/password and I can't map it. I can map the drive from any other computer just fine. Does anyone know how to make Windows forget the credentials so I can map the drive?

How To Add A Network Drive As A Library ?
How do I add a networked drive to a Library when I get a message saying: This folder cannot be included because it is on a share that is not indexed. I want to create a Library with applications to be installed and add in our two shares with this information. This would be a very useful feature but if it has to be indexed it is very limiting.  Update: The trick is to make the drive available offline then it can be indexed. Not as useful as it could be if it didn't require indexing but still works.

All my music and photos are on a network hard drive. I can get to it fine from Explorer, but I would like to be able to add it to indexinging so I can search through by music and ideally add them both to my library so I can get to them more easily. I tried to add the folder, but it doesn't let you add network locations like XP does How can I add them to index?

Can't Add Network Drive To Library
I keep most of my pictures on a file server. When I try to add the appropriate folder to my Pictures library, I get an error message: "This folder cannot be included because it is on a share that is not indexed." The trouble is, I can't for the life of me work out how to index that folder. In fact, I'm embarrassed to say that I can't find how to alter the search indexing at all in W7! There's nothing at all in Help and Support about it. Could someone come to my rescue?

When i right-click on local drive,the context menu can add New folder, new Word, excel, text etc files. but when the same right-click on network drive or usb drive, context menu can only add new folder, the menu of add new files are hidden. Without the context menu,it is very inconvenient to add new file on the exactly folder i want. How to show the full function context menu on all drive(local,USB,network,and all other device)?

Cannot Generate A Network Map
you know how you can have windows 7 create maps of your LAN and WLAN networks. well, that does not seem to be working for me properly. I have two network cards in my notebook PC, an internal one and a PCMCIA one from 1995. the PCMCIA one shows the map properly minus the other PCs on the network. while other internal network wi-fi adapter cannot generate a network map at all for some odd reason. does any one know why this is? In Vista i just got duplicate maps, plus the computer showed itself twice on the mao because of its second network adapter, or sometimes three times if i had the LAN adapter enabled. you would really think that the OS would realize that it was on the network more than once...using multiple network adapters... now, how to fix this windows 7 issue...

Unable To Map Network Drives
I have two desktop PCs running Windows 7 Ultimate, a HP laptop running Windows XP SP3 and a Network Storage Device (Dlink DNS 343 with 3 Raid Volumes) networked via a D Link DIR-635 wireless Router. Both PCs and the DNS-343 are hard-wired to the router: the Laptop connects wirelessly. Since installing Windows 7 on the PCs, I am unable to map the network drives on the DNS-343 even though all network components are visible and functioing in Windows Network Map, Pure Networks Map and Norton Internet Securities 2010 Network Map(with Full Trust). This was not previously a problem with one PC running XP SP3 and the other Vista SP1. The DNS-343 does NOT appear as a network device in Windows 7 Windows Explorer: nor does the Laptop, on either PC. The laptop running XP is able to Map network drives as before and access shared folders on both PCs. To date I have reset the factory defaults on the router and DNS-343;disabled all firewalls and minimised security controls (eg: MAC filtering) as far as I am able. I can ping each device successfully. The problem is I cannot "see" the DNS-343 in Windows 7 Windows Explorer to map the drives.

Network Map Error After Hibernation
When restarting after hibernation, the Network Map shows a large "Question Mark" in the path of my computer to the rest of the home network and if I hover the mouse over my computer name, it only show the MAC address. The network interface seems to function normally. If I disable the NIC adapter and reenable, it returns to normal. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM, however this occured with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RC as well. My mother board is a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P (onboard Realtek Adapter). Edit: I also noticed that if no other computers are on the network, then no map is drawn. It says no computers or devices can be found (something like that).

Unknown Device In Network Map
I have installed Windows 7 RC on 3 computers and setup the network as a home network, skipped creating "home-group" I have 2 XP systems on same network that I need to access. Anyway, I cant seem to figure out why/what this unknown device in my network map is? It shows up on all the computers that have the RC installed. I have attached a pic of this. Any ideas?
