Dialogs Are Not Easily Read With A Screen Reader
I use JAWS to assist me with reading screens. A lot of the UI has text which is not easily read because it isn't a conventional dialogue.
A good example of this would be the Windows Update section. The dialog displays a fair amount of information and the user can only do one of two things to read the text (as far as I can tell).
1. They can just read links and buttons using tab to select each item (and the tab order doesn't seem particularly logical).
2. They have to send the entire screen text to the JAWS virtual buffer (Control + Insert + W) and then step through it in text.
This provides a lot of extraneous information like the search box and layout information.
Does any other blind user out there have good tricks to make the UI more readable with JAWS?
Microsoft - if you are listening - Windows XP is infinitely better for JAWS users. Some kind of dialog theme function where the user could go to "old" style windows UI would really help.

Easily Backup & Import Your Wireless Network Settings In Windows 7
One of the biggest annoyances when setting up wireless networks is remembering the security key and typing it correctly so that you can connect all laptops and netbooks to it. Windows 7 makes it easy to export your wireless settings from one machine to another. The backup of the wireless networks settings can be easily done from Windows 7, and the settings can be saved to a USB stick, and then the settings can be imported on laptops & netbooks running Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Drive Dialogs Opening On Bootup Now
I was directed to this forum with the following problem and I'm hoping someone can help. I've had Windows 7 RC installed on an i7 pc for a few weeks. I have a dual boot system with Vista64 on one hard drive, Windows 7 on the other. Now when I start Win7 something new is happening - "Windows Explorer is Not Responding" appears for a while. Also, a plugged in USB thumb drive, that used to just be automatically recognized as a drive, now gives me the pop up, along with my ipod, and blackberry drives, to choose what to use to open in each startup. Any suggestions on troubleshooting what's going on? I was thinking of msconfig and canceling one item at a time in startup but thought there might be a better suggestion.

Hard To Read User Names In Welcome Screen
In the Windows 7 WELCOME SCREEN where you would choose which USER ID to log in with - Windows 7 uses a blue color screen with white text. However, the area where the user names area listed (under the picture for it's user) the coloring of the screen is so white that it is extremely difficult to read the USER NAME. Is there any way to change the color or design for this screen so the USER ID under each User Picture would be a lot easier to read?

UPEK Fingerprint Reader In Dell Latitude D620 / Biometric Devices Screen Issues
I installed Windows 7 Beta on a Dell Latitude D620. Laptop has built in UPEK biometric fingerprint reader. Windows 7 did not automatically install a driver. I first installed the driver from Dell.com for Vista 32bit. Device manager shows driver installed and hardware running, but the fingerprint reader does not show up in the Biometric Devices screen from within the Control Panel. Next, I went to UPEK's website, and downloaded a driver dated 12/2008. Same scenario, device manager is good, but no device showing up in Biometric Devices in Control Panel. I removed driver and rebooted machine before and after each attempt. Anyone have any ideas? Or are the existing drivers just simply not supported currently by Windows 7 Beta fully?

BSOD Read Problem
I get a BSOD once a day or more. The blue screen itself lasts just enough time for me to see it and start to try to find the error - at which point it disappears. I don't have time to actually read the damned thing! I go to the event viewer and it tells me to look in MEMORY.DMP. So I download the debugging tool only to find that when I load the dump I get error messages because the symbol path isn't set properly. Damn it, all I want to do is find the problem! Why can't the system tell me in plain English what the problem is? I'm not a programmer, and neither are 99.9% of users. Give me a clue that doesn't require me to learn how to write source code.I'm enjoying playing with the 7 Beta but if the system doesn't give me enough info to even start trying to find the problem then what's the point?

How Can I Read Help Files From The Network?
I used to be able to add MaxAllowedZone=1 to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftHTMLHelp1.xItssRestrictions in order to read a .chm file from the network but this does not work in the latest RC for Win7. I also tried updating internet security by adding the remote machine to the safe zone and allowing UNC paths on the intranet, and that keeps me from getting prompted if OK to open the .chm file, but still does not allow me to see the help information where instead, I get a warning about "Navigation to the webpage was canceled". Would be nice if there was some GUI option to allow this which imo is the ONLY reason for removing this capability. Frustrating when we keep taking two steps forward and one step back with these new releases.

CD/DVD Recognised But Not Read
I have just intalled Win 7 by replacing Win XP. The Sony DVD RW is recognised and is abled. The device manager shows no problems, but the device does not recognise any discs. When I try and explore/open a disc I get the message 'Please insert disc' and the disc tray is ejected. On closing the disc tray, the green line showing the path, extends all the way and nothing happens. I have disabled/re-enabled the drive, rebooted, nothing happens. However, at boot time if I insert the install disc it does open Win 7.So while win 7 seems to work OK and there are no hardware problems showing in Device Manager, I cannot load any programs or go online without the appropriate software. This message is from my other computer using Vista Ultimate.

A Disk Read Error Has Occured
I have been using Windows 7 7100 for about a month or so now. I was using my computer like usual, nothing out of the ordinary, when it started running very slowly. I rebooted the machine, and got this message: DISK FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK THEN PRESS ENTER. I did that, and got this: "Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer. If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer. Status: Oxc00000e9 Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred. " After that, I went on to run startup repair. I fixed it, went on to using my computer until the same thing happened again. I did the same process I did above, but the power went out while it was repairing, and the computer shut off. When I started it up again, I got: A Disk Read Error Has Occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. I can't get past this point. I would really love to save the data I have on there. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

Not Booting (Disk Read Error)
Recently, I was messing around with my HDD's partitions in GParted. I resized my Windows 7 partition and made a new NTFS for Windows XP, and a new ext2 for Puppy Linux. I installed the GRUB Bootloader and all my partitions booted fine off of it except for Windows 7. I later found out this has something to do with the Master Boot Record and that I should install GRUB and then install Windows 7. I was okay with this for a while, but Windows XP couldnt boot many applications from the Windows 7 partition because I have it's x64. I eventually realized that I hadn't made my Windows XP partition large enough (only 3 gig) for anything I wanted to do with it. After a few days, I just deleted the Windows XP and Puppy Linux partitions and was back to having just my Windows 7 partition. I was hoping everything would be magically better, but when I restarted my computer, the BIOS told me a "disk read error" had occurred and "press any key to restart". I put in a Puppy Linux Live CD and opened up GParted again. GParted showed me that my HDD was now just one big block of Unallocated space. Then I looked in the lower-left corner of the screen and saw that I still had 4 partitions (sda1, sda2, sda3, sda4). sda1 is now my Windows 7 partition, sda2 is now my Windows XP partition, and for some reason sda3 and sda4 are both HP Recovery partitions. I tried everything I could think of to save myself. I popped in the Windows 7 Upgrade Disk (I had been running Vista before) and tried the Recovery tools included with it, but the Recovery didn't recognize any partitions on my HDD at all. I ran a Command Prompt and tried all the options in bootrec fixmbr, but two of them didnt work and the other two replied "Element not found". Then I tried sfc /scannow, but that told me I had to be running Windows. I booted back into Puppy, ran GParted, and tried to make a new partition, but GParted told me that doing so would erase ALL data on the HDD. There's probably some more options I tried, but I can't remember them right now. Can anyone help me out? I feel like I'm close to just backing up my personal files, wiping the HDD, and starting over. Only problem is I don't have anywhere to backup 150 gigs.

A Disk Read Error Occurred
I tried to make a small 7gb partition on a separate drive and it worked fine. I had already had this drive which is a 1tb drive partitioned as follows: 500bg and 500gb. So I booted using my xp disk and it part. and when it restarted I got the following: "a disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". Now I can't install xp because it won't find the 7gb partition on restart and I no longer can boot into Windows 7. I tried running Windows 7 startup repair but it says: "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically." The first line of the problem signature is StartupRepairOffline. Win764it Keeps Making My Drives Read Only
Win 64Bit Keeps making my drives Disk (Volume) attributes "read-only". I can Unlock the drives by using the command prompt and using diskpart to clear the attributes on each drive and volume, but this is tedious, and I have to do it almost every day. What is causing this and what can I do? I have a feeling it may be related to another problem I have. I tried to change my homegroup settings but closed down my PC before it had finished making the changes. Now, when I try to change the homegroup settings all I see is a notice saying that it is still sharing my Libraries, or something similar. This message is permanent, and I can make no changes. What can I do about this issue please?
