Can'T Boot To Dos
I've just installed Windows 7 onto my son's computer which we suspected had viruses.

Win7 installed fine then the screen went dead saying Input Not Supported.

Now the computer won't load past the BIOS screen, returning to the Input Not Supported message.

I've tried using the Win7 Boot CD, I've tried Ultimate Boot CD but none of these load.

Is this likely to be a virus or is it the screen resolution from Windows 7 affecting everything?

DOS Program Full Screen
I have a client where I replaced two computers with new Windows 7 Pro computers and I installed Windows 7 Pro on two other computers. The client has several DOS programs that they use. I had advised them that they need to replace the DOS programs with newer ones, but they opted to stay with the trusty old programs.

I got them running on Windows 7 just fine and they can print without problems. The issue is that when they run the programs they appear in a window that is about 3" by 5". It is too small to be useful.

When we hit Alt - Enter, we get the response, "This system does not support fullscreen mode."  I have tried running it in XP Mode, and it doesn't help. I still get a very small window. I have also tried running on Windows XP Pro inside Sun Virtualbox. It is the same problem. Has anyone discovered a way to make DOS programs full screen? Is there perhaps a registry tweek that might do it?

PC Locked Up And Rebooted With Legacy Dos Screen Again
This time the message was DES has been disabled. Enable it or some such nonsense. I have no clue what it means. Luckily I had a PS/2 keyboard to use to hit the ENTER key or my PC would have been disabled again.

When I got back online, every website that uses PWs had to be logged back into. Sites that I never have to log into once I've done it once.

What is this DES and is it related to cookies?

Old DOS Game - Full Screen - Virtual PC
I have an old DOS game that I would like to run Full Screen on a Windows XP Virtual PC under Windows Enterprise Build 7600 however I cannot get it to go to Full Screen mode. I also have 2 mouse pointers showing up when I try to run in the non full screen mode.

If I install the Integration Features things get worse. In addition to getting an error message (The Video Device failed to initialize for full screen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application) I am continually prompted to Log In whenever I try to do anything.

The same old DOS game works perfectly in full screen mode on my Microsoft Virtual PC running under Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit system on the same triple boot box.

Print Through LPT1 From MS DOS App In XP Mode
Running Windows 7 and Virtual XP Mode. Need to run a DOS app that only knows printing on LPT1:. On XP Pro PC this was accomplished by sharing the network printer then "net use lpt1:" on the shared port. In XP Mode I've shared the network printer that is available through the Windows 7 host.

I use the command "NET USE LPT1: TSCLIENTLJ2430" where "LJ2430" is the share name for the printer. I receive "System error 87 has occurred. The parameter is incorrect.". Any ideas for making this work or entirely different method for sharing a network printer on the LPT1 port.

Access Network Printer From MS DOS App With LPT1
Running an DOS app in XP mode on Win7. All is well except printing. I can't seem to install a local driver in XP Mode that can find the printer on the local network. Maybe I just don't understand the correct way to do that if anyone has an idea.

Neither can I access it through the printer share in Win7. When I try to execute the command "net use lpt1 \tsclientlj2430" (lj2430 is the Win7 share name) all I get is "System Error 87 has occurred." Correct me if I'm wrong, but if XP mode is supposed to solve compatibility issues with legacy apps, then that would have to include DOS apps that have been running fine on XP for years which, of course, would have to also include networked printer support for those same apps.

HP Applications Install Disk Problem - Requires DOS Commands
After spending hours trying to get the HP Applications installation disk for my new EliteBook 6930p to run under Win7RC, I finally got it to install all the programs I wanted from it (including drivers) by opening a DOS Command window and using DOS commands to explore the disk and run setup commands.  Interestingly, HP's trial CD for Office installed fine under Win7RC.

Run Different Language Programs
How do i keep the OS in English, but run another program as a different language

There should be an option to have a program always run as a set language

I would like to be able to run an English, Japanese and Korean program side by side, not reset the computer just to run one app.

I Know about applocal, but some times it does not cut it and the program fails to run properly.

Windows should let me run a program from any country, not just one at a time.

Any Way To Run Outlook 2007 In XP Compatibility Mode?
I am using Outlook 2007 on Windows 7 RC1 (7100) with Franklin Covey PlanPLus for Outlook v.6 add-on. This add-ob really gets slow at times. I asked tehir support, they said windows 7 is not supported (ah, that was easy to forsee).

Before I try the thing on XP - I want to try running Outlook in XP Compatibility Mode. When I try this Outlook starts, but cannot find my profile (or any profiles whatsoever).

Ok, windows 7 keeps Outlook data differently from Win XP. But how can I create a profile for XP compatibility mode? The craziest thing is run a control panel which creates profiels in XP Compatibility mode, or reinstall outlook (or start it with some command-line switch to pretend that it runs the very first time and force it to craete a profile while running in XP Compatibility mode?)

Anybody? Any ideas?

Can Startup Programs Run As Administrator ?
I have a couple of programs (Logitech Setpoint is one) which need to run as administrator in order to work in some programs (e.g. Visual Studio 2005). They are set to run at start-up, however since I've set them to run as administrator, they don't run.

Is there any way to get these to run at start up?

Sound Drivers = Only Able To Run Programs As Admin
When I install the drivers for my HTO Striker 7.1 and restart to complete driver installation, suddenly, I can only run anything if I right click and Run as Administrator.. not even Firefox. Its annoying to have to get the gray User Access Control screen everytime I want to do something, as well as having to right click and left click just to start a program.

HTO Striker 7.1 drivers on their site are listed as being good for Windows 7 x64.

What could be happening here? Has anyone had this problem?

The Ribbon Interface Will Be In ALL Programs That Run On Win7
It's called the Scenic Ribbon and you can already see it in Paint, Wordpad and Movie Maker.

The Ribbon originated in Office 2007 and has been improved even more in Office 2010.

Untill now it has only been a part of Office however starting with Windows 7 the Ribbon will be a part of the Operating System. That means any programmer will be able to add the ribbon to his program instead of the current menu bar.

Microsoft envisions a future where all programs running on Windows will have a ribbon instead of the menu bar.

Run 16-bit Programs From A Command Line
Since DOS 2.0 I have written and collected command line programs. Many do things not possible without command line support. Such as run an Assembler and editor from a .BAT file (I use A86 if you want to search for it) to created and run handy small .COM programs.

But none of these 16-bit programs work on my Vista 64-bit. A friend has the same computer I have, but with Vista 32-bit and he verified a few of my .COM programs worked fine.

? Would I be able to install Win 7 32-bit and run them?

Setup, Run From A Non Admin Account, Writes Compatibility Problem
I run Windows Vista under a nonprivileged account and started the Windows 7 installer through UAC elevation. However, the installer noticed a compatibility problem and claimed a copy of the problem report was saved on "my" desktop. However, no such copy appears on my desktop. The copy has been most likely written to the desktop of the Administrator user that happened to own the process and not the desktop of the user who started it.

Can't Install Programs From Run DL Option In 7077
Not sure if anyone's reported this yet, but I did a clean install of 7077 on my backup computer and anytime I start an application download and select "run" from the download menu, it downloads the program but will not start it, I have to go back and save the file, and run the .exe from there.

Anyone else run into this and found a fix?

Issue: Fresh Win7 Install; Cannot Run ANY Programs
I downloaded Windows 7 from MSDNAA from my school and burned it to a blank DVD (4.90GB I believe is the capacity). Everything seemed to work fine and the burn didn't seem corrupted even when I burned it at full speed, so please keep this in mind for the following issue.

After I successfully installed Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit on my system, I ran into an issue. Certain programs will not open or execute at all, whether it be a setup file or even Internet Explorer 8. Windows Media Player opens sometimes, but bugs out too every now and then. This is hindering me because since this is a fresh install, that means I cannot begin to install drivers such as the latest Catalyst drivers for my HD 3870.

Even if I open it as Administrator, it does nothing but show the usual "Processing" mouse animation spinning symbol and after a while, nothing shows up. I checked the task manager and I see it is still running, but since I don't see anything, I have to kill the process. Again, this happens with more than 50% of the Application files/Programs that I have tried and this is a fresh install of Windows 7.

I have tried to re-install Windows 7 again to no avail.

One weird error message I got was when I tried to open the sample "Wildlife in HD" video just to test it out: "Server Execution Failed".

I don't know what else to try and right now I am using my laptop with Windows XP to use this forum since I can't even open my browser on my desktop. Is there a way to solve this problem? Sorry for my first lengthy post, but I wanted to provide as much detail as possible.

And I think my specs should show below since I filled that part out....does it?

Most 32-bit Programs Won't Run In RTM
I've been using Win7 since the beta, and not once have I had this problem 'till now (and I've used builds 7000, 7100, 7229, and 7260 without issues).

But starting with build 7600.16384 (I have the RTM now (7600.16385)), I've been having trouble getting 32-bit programs to work. At first they were slow to start--now they won't start at all. Originally I could work around it by running them apps as Admin w/compatability for Vista SP2, but now even that doesn't work.

64-bit apps startup fine (Photoshop, IE8, any built-in app, etc.), but anything 32-bit will just sit in the Task Manager all day, with the memory usage never above 3-4MB, and simply fail to start. No error messages, no abrupt termination, just nothing. The only exceptions have been FL Studio 8 and Steam (but Steam games won't run), both of which run perfectly despite being 32-bit.

I can only last so long using IE and not being able to play any games.
