Wireless Connection Losses After Some Time
Jun 28, 2011
I have a laptop where whenever it's connected via wireless, it loses connection to it every 5 minutes. I'm not sure what the issue is so I went in and changed the setting so that windows doesn't auto turn off the wireless device but the problem still persist. no other users is having this issue when they're connected via wireless.

In our office we have our PC's connected to our inter-office network server via the Ethernet ports (Local Area Connection) with a hard wire to a hub, that in turn runs to our server. We also each have a wireless internet connection on our PC's via a USB wireless adapter. When we were using XP this was not a problem to have access to the server AND the internet at the same time.
When my PC died last year I bought a Dell Inspiron 560 slim tower with Windows 7 to replace my XP machine. The first problem I ran into was that I could no longer use the wireless internet connection AND the hard wired connection to our server operating at the same time. If I stayed connected to our server, I will not have a wireless connection. If I go into the "Local Area Connection" properties and "disable" the connection, I almost instantly get my wireless connection back. The big issue when doing this is if I leave our database program (ACT!) open while the server connection is disabled, I have to shut down ACT!, then restart it before I can connect it to the server. If I try to without closing and reopening it I get all kinds of errors.
So, in the mean time, I have just put a shortcut on my desktop that allows me to enable and disable the Local Area Connection when I need internet access.
A couple days ago, my boss's PC grabbed a virus that slipped past McAfee (that program is now gone!!) and really hosed up his PC. He bought the Windows 7 upgrade software and wiped the hard drive and installed Windows 7. He is now having the same issue as I am.
For what it's worth, he is using a Belkin Wireless-G USB wireless adapter, and mine is a Netgear Wireless-N USB adapter.
Is there any way we can have the two connections operate at the same time like they did in XP? It really becomes a pain sometimes when we are on the phone with a client and we need to jump back and forth between info that is online, and info that is on our server that we access through ACT!.

Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
I usually let the laptop go to sleep and when i wake the computer, the wireless connection takes about 2 or 3 minutes to reconnect to the network.
I have another win 7 laptop that connects as soon as it wakes up but this one does not do that. The wireless connects fine when i boot the computer but its just after Sleep and wake.
The wireless symbol right bottom of the screen tells me that there are wireless networks in the vicinity but takes some time to connect; I have set my network to connect automatically if it detects it.

I have a netgear router wgt624 v2. I've had it since 2003 or 04. when I got it my network seemed to be fast and connections to it quick.now sometimes my wireless seems to have a moment or two where it searches for a connection. I figured that was due to all of the neighbors who now have wireless too. and sometimes now devices are having ip conflicts. for example my printer is set to use a static ip and the router will often give that ip to my laptop. so then the printer will not work unless I restart the laptop.

Ok so I just got a new computer and I ordered it with a wireless adapter card. The adapter was backordered so I used an ethernet cable until it arrived. I tested the connection speeds with testinternetspeed.org (legit or not idk. results were pretty consistent.) With just LAN i got 8Mbps download. With just the wireless i got 15Mbps. For the hell of it I tried it with both in. I got 45Mbps. With such a good connection I would love to keep it like that but my question is will this setup potentially harm my new PC?

Windows Home Premium 64. my wireless connection drops about twice a day. Sometimes, it takes the wireless router with it. I have a bunch of stuff on the wireless network, but it seems my laptop is the only one causing a problem. My primary card is a intel n-1030, but I've also tried a wireless usb adapter and have the same issue. I have even tried a different router. Same result. updated drivers, flused the DNS.

I have a Wireless Trendnet TEW-432BRP router. My wireless internet connection keeps dropping every 30 minutes. After it drops it usually reconnects by it self in like 1minute. This is getting to be annoying since this occurs a lot while I play online games. This router has been perfectly working fine before. It is connected to the computer using an Ethernet cable

The wireless light is on and wireless is enabled on the computer I'm trying to connect with, the only problem I'm having is that the network won't show up, before there was a few in the list and now nothing. Just found out that my neighbour can access my ISP via my wireless 802-11g connection. And I can access via his connection...Not a good situation. I have checked security settings in both my router and Windows 7 network connection. I have checked that WPA2-PSK security and AES encryption is selected and a 8 digit network security key is current. I have disabled sharing. When connecting the network does not ask for a network security key but connects instantly and functions correctly I can see but cannot connect to another neighbours connection because it asks for a network security key and I do not have it.

I just bought a Windows 7 laptop (I still have my old XP laptop). I am now in Las Vegas and trying to connect to LaQuinta's wireless network from my room. My XP laptop has no problem and stay connected all day long. But my Windows 7 laptop has been having problems. The wireless connection kept getting disconnected every few minutes. I have called LaQuinta Tech Department and they couldn't figure out why either and kept telling me it's my laptop.

Well, i also have the Windows 7. I can connect with Ethernet without any problems. When i atepmt to connect using the wireless Belkin desktop card. i get this problem found by the Windows Network Diagnostics...(Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration) marked as 'not fixed'
So i contacted my ISP and once i told them i was running Windows 7, they no longer wanted to help me. (Frontier)
I have 3 PCs, 2 with Windows 7 and one with Vista.
1**My gaming PC(Windows 7) is connected via Ethernet and connection is fine.
2**My HP laptop (Win Vista) is connected via wireless, and is working fine.
3**My newest PC(Windows 7) was connected with Ethernet, but we cant deal with the wire hanging off the loft, so i got the Belikin wireless card. It installed fine, and sees my home wireless network, the password is correct, as well as the encryption, and security type.
But when trying to connect, i get a "Connecting to the network is tanking longer than usual" followed by a "the connection was unsuccessful"
I run the troubleshooter, and first it tells me to reset my router, which i have dine, and it doesnt help, so i go on to diagnose additional problems, and that is when i get the most important problem.....(Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration) marked as 'not fixed
I read a post by Esparko in this forum, with a very similar problem that was solved by SquonkSC..... Can anyone tell me what is wrong, and how i can fix this plz?

It seems that several people (myself included) are having the Win 7 disabling a wireless router issue. I've searched through this forum and see several threads. If anyone has the solution (other than disabling HomeGroups, I kind of like this feature!) can it just be made a sticky so we don't have to search for it?

Just bought a new PC, it came blank, and i have installed windows 7 64x Professional onto it, but am having some problems with the wirless connection.
I have a realtek 8185 802.11b/g wireless card. Other system specs listed in my system specs.
The issues are as follows: Most annoying: - random slow downs in the connection. just during normal use, i won't be able to load webpages, do any downloads, or loading pages will be extremely slow (1-2 minutes per page, usually with errorrs). will often spontanesouly resolve 5-10mins later, only to occurr again another 5-10 minutes later.
No errors reported in the system tray or on using the windows 7 toubleshooter.
- about 1/5 times i boot up, it cannot connect to the network, with error message in the system tray. trying to 'troubleshoot problems' cannot fix it. if i restart, usually connects straight away
- every couple of days, some sort of error occurs, where the system tray pops up with an error message. troubleshooter is then able to resolve the error.
I have updated the driver through windows update. Driver date 10/09/2009.
We have 3 other machines (all running xp - 2 old lapotps and one netbook) none of which experieince any issues. During periods of slow/nonexistant connection on the windows 7 machine, the xp machines haver perfect connection.
I have tried restarting the router many times, and it doesnt seem to do anything.
ALso, dont know if this is related, but my ethernet ports (which i do not use) - Realtek RTL8186/8111 - are reporting errors in the device manager. when i try to update the drivers, thers is an erorr that the update did not fix the issues.
My thoughts would be that perhaps there is a loose connection inside the machine itself, but i think that network adapter connects straight into the motherboard?
Also, i have two different types of RAM installed (2x 1GB, and 2x 2GG sticks), which people have mentioned may cause some issues (I have problems not being able to come out of 'sleep', and i think the RAM causes this - but this issue doesnt bother me).

My Partner is a professor at a major university and conducts a consulting business from home. We have 2 old desktops and a new HP Pavilion notebook on our home wireless network. The new notebook was set up by a University tech person 12/10 and was functioning properly. All the computers are linked to our older hp Laser Jet 1300 PCL 6 printer. One day the notebook froze and when rebooted it had lost its connection to the printer. I have done everything I know and followed numerous "geek" instructions to reconnect. So far I have succeeded only in losing my own printer access on my old Dell Dimension 2400 desktop. Prior to that, however, both old desktops were printing, even as the new notebook did not. Connection to the Internet is fine and the signal strength from the new Belkin router is "Excellent".

Acer Aspire 7745 Notebook (purchased 10/25/2010)Win 7 HP 64-bit (build 7600) (last update 11/11/2010)Broadcom 802.11n Wireless Adapter (5.60.48.35)Since the last update, the wireless network keeps dropping its connection randomly. Windows Network Diagnostics says it can't connect. Status shows limited connection. Manual disconnect and re-connect says "Not in range" although it shows in the available networks with strong signal. Disable and re-enable causes the entire system to lock up and I have to power down. The only reliable way to reestablish a connection is to reboot or wait some random amount of time until the system decides to recognize the wireless network again.

I have Desktop A upstairs unto which a wireless router is connected for various devices.Downstairs I have a laptop that I use to connect to the wireless network. I also have Desktop B downstairs. I have an ethernet cable connected from my laptop to Desktop B.There is no drop downstairs so I wanted to connect the desktop somehow. I've enabled the wireless adapter to allow other computers to use its connection to connect to the internet. However, 2-4 times a day the connection simply stops.I don't have any of the computers on Homegroups or anything. All network drivers for all devices (wireless and wired) are updated. Using a Belkin N3000 wireless router.
