How To Stop Win7 From Trying To Install Device Drivers ?
I installed Windows 7 RC. Initially, my HP Officejet J6480 printer did not work (the printer did, but the scanner and fax did not). As recommended on this site, I reinstalled the HP drivers using compatibility mode "Windows Vista" and everything seems to be working fine. However, every time I boot up, Windows 7 trys to reinstall the HP device drivers and after a few minutes, reports failure to do so. Is there some way to shut this off? The attempt to install the device driver delays my ability to do other things on the computer. I noted a similar post and the suggestion that the user install the "Windows device driver". However, I am not sure how to get the "Windows device driver". Isn't that what the computer is trying to do when I get the message? Russrich

Custom Install Issue - No Device Drivers
I downloaded the student edition of windows 7 Home Premium, I am currently running Vista Ultimate so cannot do an upgrade and have to do a custom install. I downloaded it fine, ran it, it opens up fine with the blue windows 7 opening screen, I select install, then select custom install. In the next window I have an empty white box which I presume is supposed to list my HD's allowing me to select where I want to install Windows 7. None of my HD's are showing up, I'm given the option to browse or scan, when I select this it gives me the message- No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK Any suggestions?

Allow Standard Users To Install Drivers For These Device Setup Classes Issue
I am trying to allow users to install webcam drivers because as many of you know, new devices come in and it can be a pain to get the drivers installed. Anyway, I've setup the DevicePath registry entry to point to the webcam drivers folder on the network (e.g., domainsoftwaredriverswebcam). I then set the group policy "allow non-administrators to install drivers for these device setup classes" I add the guids of setup classes into this policy. I reboot, so the policy applies and attempt to install the webcam - everytime it shows 2 UAC prompts (for each device)Â with the program name as "Device driver software installation". What else do I need to do to get this working? I've even attepted to create my own certificate and sign the .cat files, imported the certificate to the test workstation and it still shows the UAC prompt. Has anyone gotten this to work? Is it broken in W7?

Install Mobo Drivers Or Keep Win7 Drivers ?
I have a simple question, I recently fresh installed Windows7 and was wondering if I should Install the new mobo drivers from the ASUS site (i have an ASUS P5Q Pro) or should I just keep the current microsoft drives for all the chipsets/lan/etc. The only Thing I installed was the Realtek sound driver. Would there be any advantages to install proper drivers? because right now my computer runs perfectly stable and smooth using the Windows7 ones.

Icons In Device Manager Issue After Installation Of USB Device Drivers
We had a (small) issue when installing our USB device driver on Windows 7 RC. I downloaded the newest WDK, created and signed with Authenticode a new cat file including the new OS, and built a simple installer for installing the drivers. We used the recommended functions like CryptCATAdminAcquireContext, CryptCATAdminAddCatalog, CryptCATAdminReleaseCatalogContext and CryptCATAdminReleaseContext as well as SetupCopyOEMInf. We created a new device class and therefore the drivers appeared in the device manager as "unknown devices". We added the registry keys for displaying the mini icon for "USB devices". This worked pretty well on Vista64. Using the same installer script on Windows 7 (64-bit) still showed the "unknown devices" in the device manager. As we have to prepare now our installers to be compatible with Windows 7 and we need to know if this is a bug or if there exists a workaround.

How To Stop Win7 Using WU Drivers During Install
Finally moving all the main workstations over to Windows 7. In a test run yesterday - I noticed that Windows 7 jumps ahead of me in a big way right after the main desktop appears. In the Vista/XP days - I would actually get to install my drivers in my preferred installation order. In this install - especially for graphics - before I even got to install my preferred nVidia drivers - I see that Win 7 has already grabbed and installed 195.65 - presumably from Windows Update - which I do not want. What's the trick (if any) at "first" desktop to get Windows 7 to hold it's horses and let me install what I want?

i see a lot of drivers pack for win 7, is it neccessery to have a driver cd installed with win 7, or it's enough if i have the drivers for my hardware as win 7 compatible, so is there any need for that extra drivers package cds if i have the right installer drivers?

Cant Find Drivers During The Install Of Win7
I am not sure what my setup should be in the bios stuff:Motherboard: GA-X48-DS5Harddrive: WD1001FALSI dont know what setup I am supposed to use for this Sata setup (AHCI/RAID). And I am very new to this, so those words, I reallly dont know what the mean. I need to know what settings do I use in the bios. And I also need to know where these drivers are and what media I should use to install them. Last night I was using a cd, but I wasn't sure if I had the right drivers. Also, a lot of guides use floppy disks ( I do not have this outdated technology).

Clean Install To Win7, No Drivers Found
I've been searching for an our or so all over trying to find something that helps me with this problem, but nothing seems to be working. I have an HP dv6780se Pavillion Laptop. I put a new hard drive in it to restore and the restore disks are working correctly. It will install windows vista, but then when it starts installing all the bloatware the computer restarts and says OS not found. So, I figured I'd install windows 7 since I was planning on doing it anyway. My problem now is that I'm wondering since restore disks only install vista and don't finish the other hp stuff that the drivers aren't getting installed for vista...hence when I try and do a clean install of Windows 7 it says no drivers found. Any idea what I can do to get my install going?

How Can I Test 64-bit Drivers/2nd Win7 Install
I'm currently using Win 7 RC 32-bit on this comp, and am looking to move to 64-bit by the time RTM comes round. My question is - everything except my scanner has 64-bit drivers. There is this program that included 64-bit compatibility with a large number of scanners, and mine is listed. Is there anyway I could install a second Windows 7 on a third partition (of this same hard drive), and try the driver with that to check it works? As I understand it you can't test drivers etc. in a VM install.

Clean Install Of Win7 Doesnt Find HD Drivers
Ok, i built a "whitebox" for a friend at work and they wanted to windows 7 64bit. So, i built the machine and have been trying to figure out how to get it to recognize the HD for the past 4 hours... mainly thanks to Samsung for making impossible to find drivers on their website for the Spinpoint F1 HD102UJ 1TB hard drive and i am also having problems finding drivers from the Gigabyte website... Anyway, suggestions? I gone through all the suggestions about checking the BIOS for RAID settings, but there is only 1 drive in this machine. Furthermore, after trying to find the drivers online for about 2 hours...i ended up reformatting the drive from the utility disk that samsung had on their website..

Gameport Device In Win7
As this is (and will stay) the main reason not to upgrade from XP, what people need to do to get you convinced to enable gameport support again? Resourses is a silly reason. As a happy user of a MICROSOFT sidewinder FF pro, me and many others deny to buy a new USB breakable device. So unless Gameport with FF is back i would not upgrade (DX is no reason too). Will Windows 7 by any chance have gameport support again?

USB Device Not Recognized Only In Win7
I have a WD Passport 160GB portable HDD, which worked fine in XP on the same computer before I installed Windows 7. As many other people experienced, the once the device is connected, it will show USB device not recognized. However, my mouse and keyboard, which are USB also, are working flawlessly. Besides the Passport, I have a Maxtor External HDD which is not working also, I tried every single USB port on the computer and it just won't work. And this one is powered by a small power adapter, so it should not be anything related to USB power. On the other hand, the Maxtor HDD is visible from BIOS, just not in Windows 7. My computer is single boot Windows 7 RC 64bit, clean install. I'm using Q6600, Foxconn MARS P35 mobo, Seagate 7200.10 250GB HDD, PNY 8600GT, OCZ 2x2GB DDR2 800 ram. I don't think the hardware have any problem since in XP everything worked fine, and all the drivers are up to date according to the device manager in Windows 7. Any advice?

Boot Device Indicator In Win7
I've installed Win7RC on a PATA HD for the purpose of cloning to the SATA HD in several identical machines. This is a technique I've used with XP that has worked well. But when I try to boot Win7 from the SATA drive after the PATA drive has been removed, it stops with an error, suggesting I boot from the install DVD and do a "repair". That worked; but I would like to know if there's a text file (BDC? BCD?) which I could edit to tell it to boot from the SATA drive rather than the PATA drive that contained the original install. I think I could have done this in XP but it appears changed in 7 (I personally skipped Vista).

When To Use This Method: You Dont Want To Waste Another DVD. You Dont Have a USB Hardisk. You Dont Have a USB Pendrive. You Dont Know How to Boot Windows 7 using the PXE Network Option.

Windows XP-32bit > 7-64bit I have now spent many hours now on this and this is the latest error message i get after redownloading and going through all this malarky. I am getting very frustrated and heartly sick of MS. They are every example of a monopoly for the economist and will be for years. It is an absolute disgrace that they never even got 10 students to try and download when they uploaded; it's just basic. The money I have spent buying it have been long exceeded at a personal cost in time. I feel cheated.

Unable To Install Device Driver Software
I have somewhat recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 but my problem occured after having Windows 7 for about a week. I am unable to use my wireless mouse as when I plug the sensor device into the usb port it recognizes it and attempts to install the driver software via searching for it on windows update, but it fails. I originally had it working with windows 7 for a while until one night I shut it down with windows updates to install, then the next morning it failed when I tried to connect the wireless device. It is a logitech wireless mouse that was originally part of a keyboard/mouse combo but I'm just using the mouse portion as I have a laptop now. Here are the things I've done and some conclusions that I've come to: - I have uninstalled,reboot,reinstalled and updated everything in my device manager Including updating the BIOS and Motherboard chipsets - I have tried to get the updates from windows update manullay and it still fails - I have gone to HP's website and installed every update on their for my computer, although its fairly new, 08/09 so there were only a few things to update. - I have done multiple system restores to try and set the computer back before the problem was occuring - I have tried powering off the computer and removing the battery and power sources as a type of full restart to the computer with no effect. - I have gone to logitechs website and downloaded the latest setpoint version which still didn't help the wireless mouse work, unless there are other options in the software that I don't know about, I could use some information on that. Finally I bought a new optical wireless mouse thinking that the problem might be its incompatibility with Windows 7 (even though it was working at one time) and the new wireless mouse had the same problem, plugged in the usb driver and the device software fails to install. So the usb ports recognize the devices, as I have an external Harddrive that I attach via usb and that recognizes and works fine. I have also tried a flash drive that installs the software fine and works. My guess is that its not the usb ports directly but something with where windows installs the updates, I don't know if its been cluttered with stuff that it can't install anymore or what. But I am out of ideas and have searched all over the internet for answers.

W7 Installation: Device Drivers Not Found
I bought a W7 Home Premium, the discounted version for students, and I'm trying to install it on my Acer 6930G (500GB, ram 4GB, ...right stuff for W7). I'm actually running W Vista x86, and I know that in order to run W7 x64 (the one I bought) I must do a custom installation from the boot. And I'm doing so, well trying to... After the window asking for my location and keyboard input, I continue but then I get stuck. A new window pops up asking me for a device driver...it stated "device driver not found"... I read a lot on the internet, but that's driving me mad... how can I solve the problem and having that OS running?! I'm going to sue Microsoft if that OS is not gonna run... xD

No Device Drivers In The Installation Media
I just downloaded the iso file from microsoft site, then popped it in the cd/dvd drive. When the installation was just about to start, I get this msg saying: "There's no device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK" Can anybody help me understand why these drivers are not included in the iso file I downloaded from MS? What should I do now?

currently running Windows 7 RC on my old laptop. Everything goes pretty well except an unknown device in "Device Manager" Location: on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) ACPIACPI0001 *ACPI0001 Looks like a power management driver problem. My laptop is ASUS L4R (5 years old)any help will be greatly appreciated.
