Win7 Crashes When I Turn Off The Monitor

I'm using the RC1 (build 7100 I believe). I have an nVidia GeForce 8600 GT connected via DVI to an Acer p223w monitor set at 1680x1050 resolution. Windows 7 always crashes (reboots) whenever I turn off the monitor (i.e. I press the power button to turn it off). It doesn't crash if the monitor sleeps (via power saving feature); only when I physically turn the monitor off.

It doesn't crash Win XP when I turn off the monitor. And after I installed the June 18, 2009 nVidia (beta) Win 7 WHQL drivers, the problem seemed solved as it no longer crashed (tested only twice and on the same day though) when I turned the monitor off but after about a week or so, it started crashing again.

I'm currently using the 64 bit version of Win 7 RC1 but I had the same problem with the 32 bit beta version of Windows 7. With the launch date of Windows 7 coming soon, I hope to have this problem resolved by then.

Dual Monitor Bug - Monitor 1 Crashes
My primary monitor (1)  now causes system to be unuseable after it reaches the sleep mode.  I just converted to Win 7 Premium from  32 bit VISTA, where everything worked ok.  Windows stays alive if I duplicate the 2 screens because my second monitor still works.

Both monitors are DEll E207WFP.  The card is a NVIDEA 7300LE.  Everything was ok until I upgraded 2 days ago.

After reaching the sleep time, the monitor becomes DEAD.  I setup the screen saver, but the monitor 1 would not awaken, even though it shows the pictures until I use the mouse to awaken the system.

Mon 1 is DVI.  Mon 2 is VGA connected.

System might stay up if I tell monitors to NEVER sleep --- a waste of energy.

I first noticed the problem when I went away while backing up the system and my primary monitor never could recover.  The monitor sleeps forever so a power off / power on is mandated.

Monitor Does Not Turn Back On After Sleep
I've been running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM on a Dell E1505 with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz, 2GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 for a few weeks now.

My 1 and only problem is that ever since the fresh install of the OS, my Sleep/Hibernate has not been resuming properly BUT only in certain instances.

If my monitor is open (whether or not it is on or off), if I manually go into sleep or if it goes timeout to sleep, then it can resume perfectly and the monitor turns back on. However, if my lid is closed (whether my monitor is on or off - as I have tried it both ways with drivers that don't turn off the monitor when lid closed), after going timeout to sleep/hibernate, the resume comes back (since I can hear everything working and use keyboard shortcuts to works programs) but with a BLANK SCREEN (not just black, but off like it didn't turn back on).

I have ATI drivers v8.593.100.0 and intel motherboard chipset drivers version 9.1.1.

Any ideas or suggestions, and especially info from users who have an e1505 with Windows 7?

Win 7 Won't Turn Off Monitor
I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my MSI PR200 (MS-1221). Intel (R) 965 Express Chipset Family . Current Latest Bios Version 1.5

It works perfectly.

However, I want to program my screen to shut down after 2 minutes (either plugged to AC or battery mode). But it does not work. I've installed the drivers available online, at the MSI web site. Yet, the problem is not gone.

Any idea on how can I solve this issue?

Secondary Monitor - Turn Off - Disable Windows From Opening It
I use both of my dual monitors for development work and have a bunch of folders and other things open on the secondary monitor when I am working on stuff.

When I stop working on stuff I usually just turn the second monitor off to save power as it is otherwise completely unused.

The problem then is that windows and other things like to open on my second monitor because that is where it was last used and I have to constantly move things back to the main screen to use them.

I don't want everything that is currently on the secondary monitor to move to the primary when I shut it off, but I just don't want to keep having to turn the secondary monitor on to move things back.

Is there anything I can use to prevent windows from opening up on monitors that are turned off?

Win7 Crashes And Reboots On Laptop
I have a Toshiba Satellite A300 model and Windows 7 RC 32 Bits.

Usually when I have nothing opened and I disconnect the power cord of my laptop, windows 7 gives me a windows kernel error and it restarts. The chance of this error increases when I have software active, and nearly 100% when I'm gaming, with any game.

Why this happens?

Win7 64 Bit Crashes After Install On First Reboot
OK so after buying 64 bit, dual core laptop(l305-S5934 Toshiba) I had a copy of Win 7/64 bit, and after a partition of the drive loaded the 64bit version, and it lo0aded  and updated perfectly no issues, down loaded antivirus and few other neat things I wanted, and restarts to a blue screen crash dump.So figured it was bad load, formated that partition reloadd, did it again, ok figured it may be updates and drivers, does it even if I dont update, it just crashes only way ot bring it up is in safe mode.

so my quiestion is this as I am sort of a newb on lap tops, could this lap top not like the 64 bit version, yet even though I can up grade to Vista 64 bit?Toshiba Satelite,L305-S5934, 2.0 turion X2 64, RM-70, 3 GB pc-6400 DDR2 Ram, 250 gb hdd.Now its has ran perfectly with Win7 32bit since loading , in fact the Vista partition is having shut down issues and & is stable as a rock. Thanks for any ideas that might give me chance to get the 64bit version going is appreciated.

Win7 Crashes When Try To Boot Win98 In Virtual PC
So I wanted to install 98se in windows virtual PC just to test it out.The install process didn't go to well, but I finally managed to get to the "loading screen".And then windows 7 gave me a Blue screen that said that the 2nd core did not reply with a clock signal in the alloted time or something of the sort.I realize that WVPC doesn't support 98 (and I was just testing it out not really planning to use it too much) , so I'm not really asking for a fix, rather just alerting Microsoft about this.

I have an ASUS M2N68-VM MB with 4GB Ram and a 1TB HD. It will continue to do that infinitum. If I try and go to "Safe Mode" windows says it has not finished installed yet and will not let me.The PC was running Unbutu up until now, and has been a stable box working as a Video Server. Nothing wrong with the hardware.

EXPLORER.EXE Crashes, MMC.EXE Crashes, Moviemaker.exe Error
I want to love Win7 so badly, but this is just crazy. I'm about to go back to good old XP, simply for the stability. I'm about fed up with Windows 7 after only using it for two weeks. Off of a brand new and formatted clean install, with only Norton NIS 2010, Itunes, Adobe Reader, and Firefox 3.5.7 installed, I get constant explorer.exe crashes.

Shortly followed by an mmc.exe crash, then it just gets caught up in a never-ending explorer.exe crash that only a reboot resolves, for a short time. All drivers are up to date, and all Win 7 updates have been applied.

I've even formatted and re-installed Win7 only to have explorer begin crashing a day later. This is all on a stock Dell Inspiron 545 quad core, 8GB RAM, etc. I'm very tech savvy and am about jump off of the Win 7 bandwagon. Maybe the Apple Mac commercials are correct, another fumbled attempt at a stable OS from Microsoft?

After extensive reading, it appears that many others are suffering through this ____ also. Some get it while attempting to right click any icon, some when launching apps, some, like me , for no apparent reason at all. I don't ever get the BSOD, but the computer is essentially non-functional due to explorer restarting all the time.

I've done a ton of reading and have tried sfc /scannow, which found no errors. I've tried shellexview, to no avail for the context handlers. I've uninstalled and re-installed all non-MS apps. I've tried everything that I've read, and it eventually starts crashing again. It is very random, and I can find no patterns that cause the explorer crashing.

It works for two days, then goes haywire. Sometimes it only works for an hour before the explorer crashes begin. And yes, this is a fully licensed and legal copy of Win 7 Pro that I purchased through CDW. A side note, this computer ran WIN XP perfectly. All hardware has been tested and is perfect. If anyone has found a fix for this issue, then please chime in! Below are the errors that populate the Event Viewer:

Activation context generation failed for "c:program files (x86)windows livephoto galleryMovieMaker.Exe".Error in manifest or policy file "c:program files (x86)windows livephoto galleryWLMFDS.DLL" on line 8. Win7 Always Starts On The Wrong Monitor
I'm not sure where to put this post, so I'm putting it here. I have a dual monitor setup, an HP LP2275w as my primary monitor and a Viewsonic P95F+ CRT as my secondary monitor that I switch on from time to time. My problem is that when windows starts, it always goes to the secondary CRT monitor, even if it's off.

I have them set up correctly in the display settings where my LCD is the the main monitor, 1, and the CRT is 2. I also have this set correctly in the nvidia control panel, but I get the same problem every time windows starts.

Is there a way to fix this?

Make Win7 Recognzse Monitor
I have just installed windows 7 ultimate. When I had Vista Home Premium I had dual screen set up with my laptop screen as Main and my external screen as Second . Now, after installing windows 7, it only mirrors the laptop screen and when I click "Identify" they both come up with "1". I re-installed from the 64 bit to the 32 bit and nothing has changed.

How can I make Windows 7 "Recognise" my monitor?

Win7 Always Chosing Wrong Monitor
I install Win7 (x86 or the 64-bit), no matter if it was one of the Betas, or the RC, it always chose the TV connected to the HDMI-output of my nVidia GeForce9500GT, as the main screen = when it finalize the installation, I'm left with a blank monitor...Due to that I normally use the Monitor connected to the DVI.It still shows picture on my regular monitor while doing the first parts of the installation.

It doesn't matter if the TV is totally without current, it seems it's enough that the HDMI-cable is connected to the TV and the Graphic card.If I unplug one side of the HDMI-cable, then the Monitor returns as the main screen again, and I can finalize the installation.

This has NEVER EVER happend when I install XP or Vista, ONLY with Win7, so the problem must be with Win7.And the very same thing also happens at a Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H with Integrated ATI Radeon HD3200, when a friend of mine tries to install Win7 RC.So, what is wrong with Win7 ?

Desktop Does Not Fit Monitor After Win7 Upgrade
I upgraded my computer yesterday to windows 7, my resolution was set at 1920x1080 and after the upgrade there are black borders all around the desktop where it should stretch to fit the screen.  I have a HP w2338h monitor, with a ATI Radeon HD 4350 the OS says my resolution is set to 1920x1080 but the monitor is saying it's set to 1080p and the recommended setting is 1920x1080.

This used to work in Vista, i have called HP and they don't understand what I'm talking about and I have updated all the drivers for the video card with no luck.  The monitor does not have the option to adjust the setting like the old CRT monitors did if the desktop was not fitting to the screen size.

Cannot Change Refresh Rates On Win7 ( CRT Monitor )
Now Im using an old monitor LG 700s, and for some weird reason I cannot change the resolution to 1152x864 on 75 hz...I just get 60 hz (lot of screen flicker) option and nothing else, updated to the latest win 7 nvidia drivers released today...updated the monitor drivers as well, but Im not getting that refresh rate.

The funny thing is the monitor does support 1152x864 75 hz according to the monitor specs and I have it tunning on that resolution on both Win XP sp3 and Windpws Vista SP1 both 32 bit....

What am I doing wrong.....or is it just an issue with the drivers since its a new OS and its gonna take a lot of time for nvidia to fix...if it is an issue on their part?

Prevent Win7 From Blowing Up Windows On Secondary Monitor
I recently received a new laptop that came installed with Windows 7.

The recommended resolution for the laptop screen is 1920 x 1200 and this is what it is currently set at. I can't pick any other resolution shown within the options list as they do not have the correct ratio.

With my laptop, I usually use a secondary monitor onto which I extend the desktop. The recommended resolution for this monitor is 1280 x 1024 and this is what it is currently set at. This is the highest resolution provided for this monitort.

The text size is set to Medium (125%) although I have tried this with Small (100%).

The problem I have is that the scaling that appears to be done on the windows and text is configured for the large laptop screen. So when I drag a window onto the secondary monitor it continues to maintain the same pixel size as it had within the laptop screen. This means that the secondary monitor displays everything at a very large size and is almost unreadable.

- Setting the font size to Small (100%) is significantly better than Medium (125%) on the secondary monitor, but the text is then unreadable on the laptop monitor as it is too small.
- I would set the screen sizes on both monitors to compatible values, but it won't let me as stated above.

Is there anything I can do without getting a new monitor as this is happening at work and I doubt they will buy me one :)
