Win7 Multi Channel Support For Digital Connections
Does windows 7 support multichannel digital output? I have a couple audio interface cards and a 5.1 digital receiver but when I connect my PC to it with digital connections, coax and optical, Win7 only gives me stereo output options.

Multi-Monitor Taskbar Support
Any suggestions to deal with multiple monitors in Windows 7? I was using UltraMon in Vista and really liked what it did. With all the changes to the taskbar in 7, UltraMon has lots of issues. Is there anything new in 7 dealing with the taskbar (across multiple monitors)?

No Multi Physical Cpu Support
My system is a Asus L1N84 WS SLI FX74 This system has two physical processors on it. So its two dual cores making it 4 cores.(this is the main focus of this thread being started) I have had this system since vista was new. When I biult this system I ordered a copy of Vista Home Premium When I got it up and running I noticed that when I went to system info it said I had 2 processors. Well I called Asus and AMD and Microsoft. And all of them said that the reason I was seeing two processors is because I have two processors. Me not wanting to hear it did alot of research until I found one thing that told me I was just being told what they thought would get me off the phone with them. And I am having the same issue with Windows7 RC1 What I told them is that is not a good answer because my previous system said I had 2 processors and that system was an AMD 4200 X2 So it said 2 processors and it was just ONE dual core. Not to mention that this board got a horrible write up against Intel which caused AMD to trash the whole 4x4 idea. Bad for them because this is one hell of a system with all four cores running. Which were not running during those benchmarks against the Intel quad 6700 at the time. Remember I said I installed Vista Home premium. Well it turned out while I was searching Microsofts web site I looked at the differences between Vista Home premium and ULTIMATE. There was my answer staring me right in the face.... Ultimate was the only version that had MULTI PHYSICAL CPU SUPPORT! So I then purchased Vista Ultimate and checked the amount of processors in the system window and also In CPUZ . And there they were......4 processors... Needless to say that I quickly benchmarked it again on pcpitstop and 3dmark 06 and on pcpitstop my numbers doubled!!! Literally DOUBLED. Because now the other processor was being utilized. I add in here about the issue with the Intel benchmark just to say that this system is and was totally comparable to any intel system at that time and AMD scrapped it because of a faulty test!!! The sites that did their reviews were only running one of the dual cores which is why it was only slightly better then one FX 60 in there reports!! THIS is over DOUBLE and FX 60 with all 4 cores running! Anyway... Now to the issue about Windows7 ULTIMATE........ THEY didnt put that support in Windows7 Ultimate making it no good to use with a server board!! And now I have this OS in here and am only running on 2 cores AGAIN!!! What will microsoft do to fix this issue for all the people that want to run Windows7 in their servers boards INSTEAD of the new WINDOWS SERVER 2008? How do I get my processors to show up?? Anyone have any answers? The Microsoft technical support told me that they cannot answer that and I would have to call technical support after I purchase Windows7 and have the issues!! WHY WOULD I WANT TO PURCHASE IT WITH THIS ISSUE !!! ANYONE?? Help please? Microsoft? Just to clarify the post above for anyone that says it.... I have ULTIMATE . that IS the RC1. And it says 2 processors and cpuz which said 4 before I installed this NOW says 2!

Multi Touch Screen Support
Sounds like Windows 7 have multi-touch screen support, my question is, does it need new type of touch screen support? Or current Tablet PCs will automatically have it after installing Windows 7?

Multi Language Support In Win 7
I'm planning to buy a new PC with Windows 7 (English) and not sure what version I should buy. I need to be able to switch into Japanese language mode for writing Word documents and composing/reading email sometimes. I do not need the desktop, menus etc. to be displayed in Japanese, however. I've found some info on the Internet and MS web site but still confused: 1) I have read that LIPs can be installed on any version of Win 7 but looks like Japanese must be installed as a full install (no parent language). If this is the case, can I setup 2 user accounts and configure one for English and the other for Japanese? 2) Do I need to have Win 7 Ultimate or Enterprise edition to do what I want to do?

N Trig Multi Touch Support
I was hoping for native support for my duosense(both ben and capacitative) Ntrig Display(came as part of my business Latitude XT2) to be natively supported by Windows 7 since one of the features advertised is the multitouch capabilities, and the Ntrig being the only capacitative touch tablet out there and Ntrig working with Microsoft. Of course, the only native support is single touch. Multitouch support is not native, its only for 32 bit and it doesn't support the pen feature. Now ... who can I complain to to get this working? LOL or how can I request for them to work on this.

Where's The Extended Multi Monitor Support ?
I thought Windows 7 was supposed to have improved support for multi-monitor. OK, it's nice that each monitor can have it's own Cleartype and colour settings, but what about wallpaper and the taskbar. Tiled wallpapers always start from the primary monitor - not the left most monitor. As a result, it's impossible to have a panaorama image stretch across the desktop all the way from left to right, unless you have the primary monitor as left-most. The Taskbar only appears on the primary monitor. The new Snap options for positioning windows just don't work very well with multi-monitor. There seems to be no way of setting up a half-screen view if it isn't at the extreme left/right edge of the whole space. It'd be really nice to be able to (say) drag to a corner and have a half-screen view on that monitor.

Multi Monitor Support Using Nvidia Go 6100 Graphics Issue
When windows installed it found the drivers for the graphics from nvidia via windows update and everything operates as expected. When an external monitor is connected, the laptop display will turn off and the external will become the primary monitor, this happens regardless of the external monitor is on or off when connected. Additionally it happens on any monitor new or old connected and it does correctly detect and set the resolution and frequency for the monitor. In the Nvidia control panel it does not display the laptop display as existing and the only option for monitors is single display (no other options are shown). Using the windows monitor controls yeilds no different results, it simply acts as if there is no built in monitor at all. One other interesting quirk is that when the external monitor is disconnected the process will not reverse, the computer still acts as if it is connected and the laptop display remains blank. The only way I have found to reset it so that the laptop display can be used is to restart the computer after unplugging the display. Is this a driver/windows issue or a hardware problem? Any thoughts?

Support True Multi Monitor RDP Session (as A Server)
We're using 3 monitor setups with both portrait and landscape monitors. I did initial testing of the new "true multi monitor" feature of RDP 7. It worked great as long as I was connecting to either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 Ultimate (both in trial versions). Based on additional research of microsoft websites that noted that true mutli monitor remote desktop connection is support by Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise, we have purchased 5 new computers with Win 7 Professional. Now I'm trying to connect to Windows 7 Professional from Windows 7 Professional system and I can only get the RDC session on one monitor only. Quite frustrating. I contacted both Dell and Microsoft but neither could tell me if Win 7 Professional can host true multi monitor session. Did any of you try this? I'm trying to determine if it is Win 7 Pro limitation or some system setting that I'm missing?

Xp And Win7 Network Printer Connections Issue
I have all my printers connected to Windows 7 machine. I have an Xp machine connected via home network that I want to use the printer(s) over the network. Once I get the printer network connection established, it works fine except when I shut down the computers and restart them the next day. Even though the desired printer is showing "ready" on my Xp machine, I cannot print to it. I believe that the Windows 7 machine is changing the printer Share name some times as I found out today. Once I make sure all names etc are the same and re-booting both machines it seems to work once again. Today I had no luck until I went to go to the shared file folders on the Windows 7 machine, Windows 7 asked me for sign in/password, then the printer started working. I need to fix this, got something not configured correctly? Should not matter what machine is turned on first to get both machines networked together?

Unable To Use Digital Copy Of DVD Movie Win7
I have a Sony pc (Sony Vaio vgn-NW270f; comes with a Blu Ray drive) that I purchased less than a month ago. It came with Windows 7 and Windows Media Player (version 12.0.7600.16415). I recently purchased a Blu Ray DVD that came with a digital copy of the movie. The Blu Ray plays fine in my computer. However, I cannot get the digital copy of the movie to work in Windows Media Player. When I follow the onscreen instructions to start transferring, I get this message "Message from Web Page Warning – this software requires Windows XP or Windows Vista to operate correctly" I have done all the Windows updates except for two optional updates (Microsoft Silverlight KB974331 and Update for Internet Explorer 8 Compatability View List for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems KB975364). What do I need to do to make this work?

One-click Minimize / Restore Missing For Multi-window Or Multi-tab Programs
The new taskbar is fabulous, but it has lost one really valuable feature: the ability to minimise and restore multi-tab programs like IE8 with one click on the taskbar icon.  Restoring from the taskbar ---------------------------- Programs with one window work perfectly. Click the taskbar icon, and the program minimises/restores perfectly well. But programs with multiple windows or tabs - such as IE8 - force you to use the Preview feature, and then select a window/tab to open. The preview feature is wonderful, but it shouldn't be FORCED upon you. If you just want to restore IE8 back to as it was before you minimised it, you should be able to just click on the icon. Minimising to the taskbar --------------------------- I can no longer minimise a multi-window/tab program (such as IE8 again) by clicking on its taskbar icon. This is often much more convenient than navigating to the little minimise button in IE8's title bar. In fact, when IE8 is open, clicking on its icon in the taskbar has exactly the same effect as hovering over it. So really its behaviour is inconsistent and puzzling. (IE8 is just my example; all multi-window/tab programs suffer this). Summary ---------- The new taskbar is fabulous, but it really does need these two little glitches sorting out. For multi-window/tab programs, if the user chooses not to use the Preview feature, then simply clicking on the taskbar icon should do the minimise/restore action, just as it does for single window/tab programs, and just as it did in Vista, XP, et al.

How I Made A Bootable Win7 Install DVD From The Digital River Download ?
How to make a burnable iso is covered in another thread... it requires downloading a Microsoft tool and running it through the command prompt. I haven't tried that way yet, but I did make a bootable dvd another way that was very easy, in case someone feels like doing it another way. Step 1: download the Digital River download. Run the install program which will extract all the files to a directory called expandedSetup. Cancel the install program. Step 2: download Imgburn , which is free, and install it. Step 3: Go here and follow the instructions to create the bootable DVD.. tahdah! Just another method I discovered.. dunno if there are any particular advantages to either... maybe someone other than myself could say.

Wrong Drive Letters In Multi Boot XP,Vista, Win7
FIX (with SavePart, tried other partition utilities and editing MountedDevices to no avail) Hope this helps someone else with Wrong Drive Letter Problems Installed Windows 7 RC and all was well with XP Dual Boot. After some experimenting(BSD,LINUX,etc), Windows 7 would not boot, so popped in the DVD and let Windows 7 repair the boot. Windows 7 now booted, but when booting XP on E: , it was now assigned the wrong Drive letter D: and would boot to just before the Logon Prompt and hang(same in safe mode.) After much research and trial (including editing the HKLM/SYSTEM/MountedDevices hive of the XP install from within Windows 7 to change the drive letter) this was the fix. This particular XP boots from Partition/Drive E: in Windows.0 directory (yeah, i know, been this way for years) FIX: (FREE!) downloaded SavePart "AKA Partition Saving " Partition Saving Boot from a FreeDOS Floppy or USB stick and run SavePart.exe within SavePart (navigate with TAB key, Selected items turn BLACK) Choose: Update Windows 2000/XP/Vista Registry then Choose element where boot configuration are stored (Disk number 0, in this case) then Choose element where boot configuration DATA are stored (Partition) where the XP(2000 or Vista) is located then Select the Directory where the XP (2000 or Vista) is located (Windows.0 on D Drive, in this case) You then have access/ability to the change Drive Letters for that particular Windows Installation: In this case: Drive D (which needed to be E) and Drive E(which needed to be D)

Dual Channel RAM Or Not
I may want to up the memory on my machine from 1 GB to 2 GB which is the mainboard's maximum. It is an MS-7211 from MSI. Here is the only thing the manual says about memory: Main Memory • Supports two memory banks using two 184-pin DDR DIMM. • Supports up to 2GB PC3200 (DDR400) SDRAMs. • Supports 2.5v DDR SDRAM. I want to get dual channel ram. Can anyone tell me if they know it is guaranteed to work? Or do you need a special motherboard for dual channel?

How Many Cores Will Win7 Support?
I have an HP Z800 with Dual W5580's and 48GB of memory. As many of you know, you can enable the "Hyperthreading" to get 16 virtual cores. Does anyone know if Win 7 will see all of these cores? If not does anyone know of a Vista or Win 7 hack that will allow the full use of all the cores? For those that care, this machine is part of a larger distributed farm that runs traffic simulation software. Benchmarks on equivalent DL160G6 w/Server 2003 R2 have shown worthwhile improvement in runtimes with "hyperthreading" enabled, so we are inclined to have it enabled on the Z800. The workstation does not support a Win Server install (several attempts have failed) and so we are limited to XP 64, Vista 64 and Windows 7.

Bind A Channel To A Key On The Keyboard
I have a keyboard with 1-5 labelled universal purpose keys. The software lets me bind various commands to them, either from a list, or a shell command. I would like these keys to 1. open WMC in Live TV mode (if not open) 2. change channel to the specified one (e.g. if I press "2", pop up channel 2, like a normal TV if I press a number on the remote). I know the numpad can switch channels, but only if WMC is running and active. And I know WMC has a command line inteface, which is very poorly documented. For example, this command opens WMC in Live TV mode (with the last channel selected before it was closed): Code: C:Windowsehomeehshell.exe "/mcesuperbar://tv?live=true" Does anybody have any clue how to achieve this?

I assumed the memory was defective and ran Both Memtest86+ and the windows alternative. Also, reinstalled all my drivers, but it still happens when I move to Dual Channel! Any solutions?

Driver: Primary IDE Channel

Windows needs the driver for device [Primary IDE Channel]. Click 'Load Driver' and load the required device driver." I have only one hard disk in my desktop and it's been no problem with XP. I looked all the places for the driver, but no luck. Can anyone tell me where to get the driver? Isn’t windows 7 supposed to recognize the disk automatically? Also, my 4-year old desktop does not have the BIOS bootup choices for DVD and USB, so I have to run the installation DVD disk in XP.

TV Channel Issue In Media Center
Just installed the latest RC build and am having a strange TV issue in Media Center. I can only get a TV signal on one channel at a time in between reboots... i.e. If I reboot PC, select channel 1 in the guide, the channel displays correctly, then if I select any other channel I get a no TV signal error. If I reboot the computer and try with a different channel it will work for that one channel and will get the same no TV signal error with the rest. I'm using a ASUS U3100Mini DVB-T USB TV Tuner. Anyone experiencing anything similar? I have tried just installing the driver through device manager and also tried running the Setup package using Vista SP1 Compatibility.

WLAN Channel 13 Network Not Found
I´m using Windows 7 on a MSI-VR630 notebook with an integrated Realtek wlan-adapter. My wireless network sends over the channel 13. My network is not in the list of found networks. If I turn my router to channel 11 Windows finds the network instantly. I´m using the driver which was installed automatically with Windows 7. So i think there is an driver problem with the integrated driver. In Windows Vista with the driver from Realtek there isn´t this problem. Do you already know this problem?
