Win 7 Support Of Dynamic Disks
I understand there will be a preorder of Windows 7 comming out, but I haven't found informaiton on which version(s) will support Dynamic disks?Â
Background: I had Vista 64 Home Premium and installed Windows 7 (now RC) after adding two 1.5 TB drives which I wanted to run stipped. I couldn't get Dynamic disk to function in Home Prenium and from what I read on the web, I needed Ultamate. Windows 7 was available and worked.
The public betas are only Ultimate, so it's dificlut to determine what functionality is lost on other versions. I haven't found a detailed feature list that indicates which versions will support Dynamic disks (Supersite for Windows, searching Microsoft forums).

Dynamic Disk Support
Is Windows 7 going to support "dynamic" disks? The problem I am having is that my external USB drive was set up as a dynamic disk on my Windows XP computer. I backed up everything onto the disk and then installed Windows 7. Now I can't access the contents of my backup disk. If I plug the USB drive into a different Windows XP computer, and go to Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management, I can see the drive as "Disk 1 - Dynamic - Online" and my data is accessible. On Windows 7, under Disk Management, I see "Disk 1 - Dynamic - Invalid". When I right-click the drive, I am given the option to "Reactivate Disk" but clicking it displays an error message "This operation is not allowed on the invalid disk pack". Is there any way to gain access to my backup disk from within Windows 7?

Dynamic Volumes - What Versions Support Them ?
I'm amazed that I could not find an answer for this after hours of searching the usual suspects. LoL I have Win7 Home Premium ordered for 4 PCs but need to have dynamic volumes. I can't find out what versions of Windows 7 support dynamic volumes anywhere. Our PCs are all XP Pro on a home network. And the budget says no to Win7 if I have to pay for Pro just so I can keep all my videos on one volume. If MS didn't include dynamic volumes in Home premium I think they made a mistake because even TB+ hard drives are puny for storing large video collections. I know about libraries but am not ready to risk everything on them as I roll out the upgrades over time.

English Win 7 Key + German Install Disks, Will It Work ?
I have an OEM version of Win 7 Pro (English) currently installed on my system. I am currently upgrading my Motherboard and CPU, building another system with the old parts. As the recipients of my old setup are German, the OS needs to be in German for them also. Here is my dilemma. When I pickup a new copy of Win 7 it will be in German (as I am living in Germany). They need a German instillation of 7 and my current OEM key is locked to the old motherboard. Will I be able to use that English OEM key with a German instillation, then use the new German key with my current English disks?

Upgraded From XP Pro To Win 7 Pro, Lost Access To My Spanned Dynamic Drive
I just upgraded to Windows 7 Pro from Windows XP Pro. In my XP Pro setup, I had two 500GB drives set to dynamic and spanned as one drive (drive letter F). It has worked great for years. Well, I pulled the existing XP Pro harddrive (80GB), just in case I had any problems, and installed a new 320GB harddrive for my new Windows 7 Pro install. The install went great, however, I cannot see my old F drive (the two 500GB spanned dynamic drives). I did pull off my critical data before the upgrade, however, there's still a lot on those two drives I would really, really like to have. Anyway, when I realized something was wrong, I put my old 80GB harddrive (with XP Pro) back into the computer and pulled the newer 320GB harddrive with Windows 7 Pro out, but to no avail. Now my old F drive isn't available there either. There's gotta be a way to re-activate my old spanned dynamic drives on my new Windows 7 Pro setup.

Dynamic Disk Status Errors
After dual booting my drive, it was suddenly changed to an offline dynamic disk. My problem is, I can turn it back online, but it gives me the status of "errors" I checked around for the past 12 hours, and everything says the same thing, turn it back online (it is) Reactivate it (That command is grayed out) Use Dynamic disk converter 2.1 (Says offline even though CMD says it is online) Now, I am a bit frustrated, after 6 hours or so, my entire PC crashed, I did nothing special to cause this but hey it did. When I would boot up it would give "error loading OS" I checked all my drives, they're working PERFECTLY fine so I have no idea what is causing this. After I inserted my Windows 7 CD it seems to boot up fine now. I have two separate drives, one to handle my main OS being Windows 7 and the other to handle all my media which is the one that I cannot access anymore. After reading dozens of articles I cannot find any solid answer that work for my case. I am using the Windows 7 disk manager not a third party program, also, I have read all the 'help' from the microsoft website there is to deal with this problem. But nothing seems to work. To help literate a bit more this is what my Disk Manager looks like: Disk 0 Primary partition Basic 38 GB Online Disk 1 Dynamic errors When right clicked on Disk 1 everything is Grayed out except properties, help, and Offline. I don't know if any of this information will be of any help, I am trying to literate as much as I possibly can and give any evidence that might help. Anyways, this entire thing has given me a huge headache and I have a huge term paper due x_x...

Dynamic Network Adaptor Selection?
When at home I generally have my laptop connected over WiFi but sometimes I need to transfer a lot of files with my desktop so I use a direct gigabit ethernet connection for that. I've set up the gigabit ethernet to use a static IPs on a different subnet from my home network then need to connect through the shared folder using this IP explicitly. What would be better is if I could just use the computer name to connect and have Windows 7 automatically use the gigabit adapter if it's connected, or fall back to WiFi if it's not. Is there any way to do this?

Create Both A Static And Dynamic Network
I am trying to create both a static and dynamic network for my computer to choose from when I connect my notebook to one of two locations. I want to create a LAN 1 which picks up the static info specific and an LAN 2 for my dynamic connection. This is possible to do with operating systems such as ubuntu and it is very easy, however is it even possible with Windows 7? I tried this with Vista as well and failed. Can anyone help. I am tired of going into the TCP IP settings and reconfiguring this everyday.

Dynamic Volume Failed Upon Import To Win7
I had an existing, healthy and fully functional raid 5 dynamic volume. As I understand Windows 7 supports RAID 5, I booted up Windows 7.It sees all the drives and the volume, I run the foreign import wizard, no errors. But my array immediately goes to "failed", even though it reports all drives online and the array was fully operational plugged into the same controller less than 5 minutes ago. I attempted to import them back into the orignal OS but it warns me about missing disks and I may lose data if I import. So I stopped there.I've loved Windows 7 from the day I loaded the beta's.But this is a simple process I've done 100 times, why Windows 7 can't handle it without what appears to be destroying my array I don't know...And that's current status, anyone have any ideas?

Win7 Compatibility With DDO [Dynamic Drive Overlay]
Along with trying out the Beta of Windows 7, I puchased a new 250BG hard drive for my Ferrari 3200 laptop. I've found that only 130 GB is available due to a lack of compatability with 48 BIT LBA. I've tried updating to the latest BIOS for my machine, but that has not helped expose the larger size. I think my only option is to install a dynamic drive overlay that updates the MBR. However when I tried this with Windows 7 it corrupted. I spotted this thread http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whshardware/thread/2d97fffc-44b9-4286-b636-1e8241160c40/ which seems to imly that there is a compatbility issue with DDO and Windows Server 2003 as thet both modify the master boot record. I wonder if there is the same compability issue with Windows 7? Does anyone know if there is any way to allow DDO and Windows 7 to coexist? Any ideas on how I can that the full hard drive working with Windows 7?

Could Not Retrieve Information About The Disks On This Computer
As usual, the Microsoft installation programs DON'T WORK like they should! And getting GOOD and TIMELY information about the error encountered FROM MICROSOFT is damn near impossible! Here's the situation, as reported by me and many others: When I put in the Windows 7 installation disk into the drive and click "Install Now", it goes to a full-screen setup page, which reads: Setup is copying temporary files... Setup is starting... Then an error window opens stating, "Windows could not retrieve information about the disks on this computer." That's it. No help, suggestions, no nothing! Just an "OK" button that closes the installation session completely! WTF???This appears to be a pretty common problem for a lot of users, and should be easily identifiable and resolvable by Microsoft! Why is it happening?

Error 0xc000000f After Reconnecting Additional Disks
I have XP, Vista and a data disk, on separate SATA II drives connected to a 6-port Intel isrc 1.07 controller on a Gigabyte EP-35-DS3P mainboard. I have successfully changed between each OS by altering the disk boot order in the mainboard BIOS for 2 years (including previously, an installation of Fedora making 3 OS choices). I also have a separate mirror set on a second Gigabyte RAID controller on the mainboard. I disconnected all drives and installed Windows 7 beta alone on another separate disk. Windows 7 beta installed and ran fine on the single drive. I reconnected the XP and data disks, ensured the Win 7 beta drive was first in the BIOS boot order, booted Win 7 beta and got this Windows Boot Manager message: "Status: 0xc000000f Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible". Changing boot order back to XP first and XP boots fine, I can see and access the data drive and the Win 7 beta drive under "My Computer". On the controller, SATA II Port 00 is a CD, Port 01 is XP, Port 02 is the data drive, Port 05 is Windows 7 beta. I suspect Win 7 beta wants to be on a SATA Port higher than XP but don't want to try this without further investigation. Anyone have any ideas?

Raid Disks On ASUS M2R32-MVP
I experience problems with Raid 1+0 after Win 7 installation: My configuration: SATA Slot Disk Size Raid Array # 1 320Gb 1 2 320Gb 1 (mirror) 3 1Tb 2 4 1Tb 2 (mirror) So, after installation on disk configuration 1-2(full mirror) + 4(half mirror) everything works fine, but if I remove 4th disk or add 3d disk, Win7 reboots after "windows starting" logo(without BSOD). The same problem, if I remove 1st or 2nd disk. I have the latest drivers for Raid, installation end without any errors. Any ideas, how to solve those problem?

Upgrade Disks And Bit Version Question
I want know about the Windows 7 upgrade disk, if I want to format my PC further down the line can I format the drive and use the windows 7 disk to reinstall Windows? Or will it need to be installed on Vista. If that is the case, how can I get round that. And secondly, I have hardware and software that runs on 32bit vista, but not on 64 bit vista, I want to get 64 windows 7, but will it be the same case on Windows 7? as it was with Vista? If so is there anyway of testing it first, by download 64 bit and 32 bit for free?

Hard Disks Write Protected After Upgrade
After upgrading form Vista ult to Windows 7 ultimate (without any problems), all my harddisks are now write protected except the system harddisk. I have an Asus P5K Pro motherboard with two WD SATA 1TB harddisks (configured as two separate disks, no RAID) and 4 USB harddisks (1TB and 3x 500GB). I have tried to take ownership but that did not help (medium write protected error). I et the readonly values on disks and volumes with the diskpart utility to 0, but no results. If I connect teh USB drive tot my laptop, I CAN write to it, but when connected to my desktop computer, it fails to write any data. I have no clue. I can read the disks but I cant write to it. I had never any problem with write acces to my harddisk with Vista. What is the problem, how can I fix it. I don;t want to do a clean install !
