Win 7 RTM Won't Install On Drive With Plenty Of Space
I am trying to install Windows 7 RTM on a Gateway P-7811 computer with lots of space left open on the drive, and Windows 7 Setup keeps on giving me the message that there is "Not enough space available on the hard drive to install". I had this same problem with the Windows 7 RC1 and Beta versions, and I traced it back to using Easeus Partition Master on the drive to remove a OEM Recovery Partition and combine that space into my primary partition.
While I could do a clean install, there is a lot of information on this drive that I do not want to lose, simply put, and was wondering if anyone else had this problem and, if so, what the fix is for it?

Old Installed Still Won't Give Up Hard Drive Space
Before I begin, I want to mention that my XP Partition of my 250GB HDD is my D:/ drive, and my storage partition is my C:/ drive. Originally, I was excited about Windows 7, and I installed it on my C partition, because I figured with no Windows install on that partition, it should be fine. With about 25GB free, I installed Windows 7.  It installed fine, but when I went back into XP, I noticed it moved my Documents and Settings (I do use the C partition for My Documents, by that, I mean, I have Windows use that as My Docs instead of on the D partition) and Program Files to a folder "Windows.Old". So, at that point, I managed to move everything around so that I had my program files and docs/settings back, and I ordered a 500GB HDD to partition and install Windows 7 on, seperately.  I figured, the only good way to get rid of the old install on the C partition would be to format, so I copied all files/folders except for "Windows", "Program Files" (the Windows 7 one) and "Program Files (x86) to my 500GB hdd, formatted my C partition, then installed Windows 7 on the other partition on my 500GB HDD, and copied all the files back to the C drive. Here's the problem: Before I installed the original install of Windows 7 on the C partition, I had 25 GB free - now, after formatting, I only have 11GB free...  When I moved the files around to get XP working normally again (before I reinstalled 7 on the other drive), I renamed 7's Docs/Settings, and I'm not sure if I deleted it, or if it just disappeared.  The files I copied over are bigger than what they were before the original Windows 7 install. Where would big files be hiding?

Win 7 Clean Install Won't Detect SATA Drive
I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my desktop that is currently running Vista and XP on a dual boot. I want to eliminate the dual boot and do a clean install with Windows 7. I have a Western Digital SATA drive WD2500KS. If I try to install "custom" it will not detect the drive and wants to load drivers. If I try to upgrade it shows the drive and both partitions and want's to know which partition. I ran the Windows 7 compatibility program and it shows the drive and no issues pertaining to installation. How do I get a clean install to recognize the hard drive? Processor is Intel Core2 Quad CPU 2.4 Ghz.

XP And 7 Install Issues (Won't Boot Into Win 7 Install)
I have XP SP2 installed. I used EASEUS Partition Master to split my drive in half, one half being XP, the other half being a future install of Windows 7. Put DVD in, selected the blank partition, began the install. Once it gets to the first reboot, it will reboot and go straight into XP. There is no option to choose Windows 7. The XP boot.ini has only one entry for XP. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking I need to add an entry for Windows 7, but have no clue what to put and I'm also guessing I'd have to add a few special tags because it's booting into the setup process of Win 7.

Unattended Install - Win 7 RTM - Can't Format Or Partition
I just downloaded Win 7 RTM from Technet. I also downloaded Windows AIK for Windows 7 as well. I have spent hours trying figure out how to use the AIK, and finally after much reading I thought I had got the autounattend.xml right. The problem I'm facing is that the my unattended installation isn't formatting or partitioning my hard drive according to the settings within Autounattend.xml file. Which means every time I have tried running my unattended install, the old files from my previous Vista/7 OS Windows and Program files, are moved into Windows.old folders. Notes: The setup and unattended installation is working , as I haven't had to touch or type anything after I've run setup.exe from the Win7 DVD. The account, computer name are all being set. I haven't encountered any errors during the installation process.

Most 32-bit Programs Won't Run In RTM
I've been using Win7 since the beta, and not once have I had this problem 'till now (and I've used builds 7000, 7100, 7229, and 7260 without issues). But starting with build 7600.16384 (I have the RTM now (7600.16385)), I've been having trouble getting 32-bit programs to work. At first they were slow to start--now they won't start at all. Originally I could work around it by running them apps as Admin w/compatability for Vista SP2, but now even that doesn't work. 64-bit apps startup fine (Photoshop, IE8, any built-in app, etc.), but anything 32-bit will just sit in the Task Manager all day, with the memory usage never above 3-4MB, and simply fail to start. No error messages, no abrupt termination, just nothing. The only exceptions have been FL Studio 8 and Steam (but Steam games won't run), both of which run perfectly despite being 32-bit. I can only last so long using IE and not being able to play any games.

Computer Won't Recognize Any CD Drive For Win 7
I'm building a new computer. I have the following specs: EVGA 790i motherboard Intel Quad Core 2.66 8gb ram 500gb western digital HDD I installed an 'upgrade' copy of windows 7 on my new HDD and it installed perfectly. The problem, of course, is that I needed the full version, and the product ID wouldn't work. So once I realized that I had an upgrade version, I figured that I would just install Vista and then upgrade to 7. I tried this, but Windows 7 wouldn't allow it. so I formatted the HDD in order to start over. Now when I turn on my computer, Windows 7 tries to boot but says that it's missing the bootmgr files, and to insert a bootable CD. But now my computer isn't recognizing ANY CD Drives. I have three different CD drives that I'm working with. Two are IDE and one is Sata. None of them are recognized by this computer, but all of them work on my other computer using the same cables. I have gone into my BIOS and changed the boot priority to CD Drive and disabled all the other options. I have unplugged my HDD completely on reboot. I have unplugged my motherboard battery and left it out for some time and tried again. I'm out of ideas and very frustrated. I feel like if I can get my system to recognize ANY of my CD drives then I will be able to reinstall windows.

Matrox Win 7(x64) Display Driver Won't Install
I'm having problems installing my Matrox driver on windows 7(x64) version. I've been using the 32bit version of windows 7, and i managed to get the matrox driver installed no problem. (i used the windows compatibility mode) I've tried the same method again (Windows compatibility mode) and downloaded the Vista(x64) version of the driver. It suggests the right diver to install but then says i have an incompatible version of windows. I have read up on the problem, and i have seen suggestions to check that the device ID is listed in the display drivers .inf file. I've checked that and my device ID does exsist in the driver .inf file. So now i'm stumped, is there another way to install my driver? Does anyone have any suggestions as to why my driver won't install.

RTM Won't Go Back To Sleep After One Wake Event - Network Driver Issue
I have a licensed MSDN Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit RTM build 7600 installed to test out some media center software. It will go to S3 sleep and wake once successfully with powercfg -lastwake showing the correct wake event. Having woken once, then subsequent attempts to sleep result in the PC resuming instantly with powercfg -lastwake not showing any reason for the wake event. powercfg -devicequery wake_armed was showing only the network card being armed, as we want to use network events to wake the PC. The network chipset is Realtek RTL8111C Lan running the WHQL driver installed by Win7 RTM. This is an Asus P4-P5N9300 Barebone PC with 4GB RAM and E7400 CPU. It has an external USB Hauppauge dual tuner DVB-T tuner; PS2 keyboard and mouse; an X10 interface connected to the Com port. It has the BIOS set to S3 sleep; plug&play OS; all wake events disabled in the BIOS. When it wakes the network shows incorrectly as no internet connectivity, but it does work when you use IE. I saw a suggestion of only using magic packets to wake the PC, so set the pattern match to disabled and made sure magic packets were enabled and selected the checkbox in the power management tab to require magic packets. Same problem - once it wakes after the first magic packet it won't go back to sleep. The only way I can get the system to sleep more than once is to stop the network card waking the PC, which won't work in our desired use case of using WOL. Having established that it was a network card, I tried the latest Realtek drivers for Windows 7 - newer than then ones installed by RTM build, but this driver still prevents sleep after the first wake event. I know NDIS 6.2 was introduced in Win7, so it looks like the WHQL testing needs to cover S3 sleep tests, as the Realtek RTL8111C driver is clearly broken ! Does anyone know if it's possible to install a Vista network driver under Win7, as this doesn't add the new packet matching support, or alternatively are there any registry overrides for the network wake events?

Win 7 Won't See Drive Partition / Chkdsk Finds No Problems
I have a bizarre problem in that every time that my machine boots it wants to run chkdsk for my second drive (assigned letter d:), chkdsk runs through and finds no errors but when windows finishes loading the drive shows up but as "Raw" or unformatted. I can again run chkdsk from a cmd window including with /f /r and it finds no problems. I should also add that the windows event viewer has constant entries of error 55. If there is anything else that I can provide, please let me know. This really has me stumped and I really appreciate any help that anyone can provide. My google-fu is also not strong enough for this. The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume D:.

SB750 RAID Drivers Not In RTM.can't Install.slipstream?
So like half the world I got RTM from MSDN yesterday, with hopes of installing today. Well for the past 10 hours I have been trying to get this OS installed on a Asus M4A79T Deluxe motherboard with the AMD SB750 RAID drivers and unfortunately I have come upon some woes that I hope you all might be able to shed some light on. In the RC the drivers were not present, as is the case with the current RTM, the process I would have to go thorough is as follows: 1. Click Next at the Language select screen 2. Click Install Now at the Install screen 3. Accept Terms and Next 4. Choose Custom install 5. It is at this point where I run into the lack of a driver with the RC, no drives are listed at theWhere do you want to install Windows?screen. 6. Click Load Driver 7. A message box pops up indicating To install the device driver needed to access your hard drive, insert the installation media containing the driver files, and then click OK.It is at this time that I click Browse 8. The browse for folder menu pops up and I navigate to my USB drive (have used a CD in the past) and select the AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controllerand click Next At this point everything is good, the driver gets loaded and I continue on my merry way with the install of the RC.

Losing Hard Drive Space With Win 7
So, I've done what I *think* is standard to check this; no spy junk or viruses, did a scandisk and disk cleanup, but I'm still losing a few gigs at a time to the air- 3 gigs today, 3 last week, and a gig here and there- Is there a way to trace what your computer's downloaded during the day (nothing intentional, I assure you)? I also saw something about a 'shadow file', but I don't know where to check/change the settings to keep my comp from being gobbled up by gnomes. BTW,this is 64 bit Windows 7 beta, dell studio, and my computer is black (that should help).

All Programs Won't Display And Speech Recognition Won't Start
My speech recogntiion won't start. I don't have a system restore that far back, but it hasn't been working since 3, maybe 4 updates back and I am now just getting around to it, since I have had other concerns lately. The error I get is "Speech recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported. The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options." I go there and press certain buttons and I sometimes get the error message "The requested task can not be carried out because the neccesary engine can not be created. Please select a different engine and/or audio device." I have tried changing the laguage and then restarting and it still won't work. I am using the same mic I was using before when it worked. I have not installed any new sound drivers when it stopped although I have looked for the sound drivers since and there are no new ones. I also had two other problems after the same Windows 7 update with the All Programs not displaying in the Start Menu, but I have dont a temporary fix with that, but it is still not working the way it is supposed to as I had to make a new sub folder in the Programs folder and change the location to that folder every time I start up Windows and so now I go into All Programs and then a second folder, which is ok for now, gonna write a batch file to do it for me anyway. The other problem is that my sidebar wouldn't start, but I think I fixed that last night. As my gadgets are now working.

RTM Install Fails - Can Not Format New Hard Drive
Windows 7 will not format a new hard drive if there is a second internal hard drive attached. The 2nd drive is a logical drive and both drives are displayed properly during the start of the Windows 7 install. XP has no problem with a new unformatted drive but 7 fails to create the small 100MB system partition. In my case after some hair pulling I removed the second drive and then 7 could create both the 100MB system partition and the primary partition needed to install the OS. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Network HP Printer Won't Install
Trying to install an HP 2100 tn printer through a Linksys router to a Win 7 62 Pro machine. Win 7 drivers for Asus MB, Marvell Card and latest firmware for Linksys router. Used HP latest network diagnostic but it can't find the printer. Used latest PCL 5, 6 and PS drivers from HP - nothing. Used netsniffer with HP diagnostic and it looks like the diagnostic sees the printer (reports the correct i.p. address) but doesn't identify it as a printer. Went back to XP where the printer works and found it is currently working with IPX protocol. Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to buy a new printer, or stick with XP.

CD Drive Won't Display
Recently I've been installing/uninstalling DVD burner programs because the DVD maker that came with Windows 7 didn't seem to work for me. Of course, I had to uninstall many of the programs that I installed because it wasn't compatible with Windows 7. I think it was after I uninstalled the program Imgburn that I was no longer able to view my CD (F:) drive under my computer. I found out that one of the drivers was disabled (code 32), so I tried repairing it following the solutions online. I mostly found that I could fix it by enabling the drive, but that wouldn't work. I tried disabling the drive and reenabling it, and even trying to edit it from regedit. Can someone help me? I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. The operating system is 64-bit and the processor is Pentium(R) dual core T4200. The driver that's having problems is TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L633B ATA Device.

Sigmatel Audio Drivers Won't Install
Have a tablet PC that I just installed Seven onto. Even though it's an old box, Windows update found nearly all of the drivers. The one it didn't find is for the AC97 Sigmatel audio. So, I grabbed the drivers I used for Vista (they're actually XP drivers) and tried to install them. Did this again and again, using different compatibility modes every time. Got no indications of failure, but never worked, either. Tried removing the device and having Windows Update search for a driver. No luck. Tried installing driver from selecting from list. Only Sigmatel driver in the list is for HD -- which I don't have. Even tried the MS WDM driver -- and it refused to install it. I read in another thread that there are supposedly generic AC97 drivers --but I can't figure out how to install them. The relevant driver files from Vista are STAC97.sys and staco.dll -- which tells me this is a STACS AC97 audio chip. But I just can't figure out how to get a driver installed.

Does anyone have any other drivers for the Conexant CX20468-31 AC97 Audio that might work with Windows 7?

The connection has not been restored. Here's the kicker, I have another computer on my network running the SAME EXACT version of Windows 7 RC1 Build 7100 x64 from the same disk no less and it reconnects with no issues. I also have another computer on the network running XP Pro x32 and it reconnects with no issues as well.Â
