Win 7 Clean Install Won't Detect SATA Drive

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my desktop that is currently running Vista and XP on a dual boot. I want to eliminate the dual boot and do a clean install with Windows 7. I have a Western Digital SATA drive WD2500KS. If I try to install "custom" it will not detect the drive and wants to load drivers.

If I try to upgrade it shows the drive and both partitions and want's to know which partition. I ran the Windows 7 compatibility program and it shows the drive and no issues pertaining to installation. How do I get a clean install to recognize the hard drive? Processor is Intel Core2 Quad CPU 2.4 Ghz.

Win 7 Unable To Detect SATA Hard Drive
I recently embarked on the journey of building my first custom PC. Everything was going well, until I hit a speed bump of installing Windows 7 64 bit. So like usual I boot from the CD drive, and stick Windows 7 in. When it gets to the point where I'm going to install, it is unable to find my SATA drive to install Windows 7 on.

It then asks me to "locate drivers." So it gives me an option to browse, and when it does so I put in the disk that came with my mobo, but it's unable to find any drivers. I tried downloading drivers from my motherboard's web site, sticking them on an external HD, and locating them from there, but that still didn't work.

I checked in my BIOS, and my SATA type is under Native IDE. I tried switching it to AHCI, and my HD was no longer detected in the BIOS, switched back to Native IDE and it found it again. Also, Onchip IDE Channel is set to Disabled, and Onchip SATA Control is set to Enabled, does this matter any?

I was wondering, though, is it possible that if I set the SATA type to AHCI, move the SATA cables into ports so that the drive is recognized by my BIOS, use the AHCI drivers I downloaded, Windows 7 will detect it?

Win 7 Won't Detect Second Graphics Card Nvidia
I recently upgraded from windows vista and i have to say everything runs so much better in windows 7 than vista except for the fact i cant get it to detect my second video card. One card is a 8800gts and second is a 6800gt both nvidia. I have switched the card slots and whatever card is in the first slot detects and installs normally but the card in second slot does not detect at all.

I have tryed both windows 7 drivers and vista drivers wich dont fix anything. Ive tryed to manually install the second card threw hardware but i keep getting an error installing the device. Has anyone had this problem or know a solution?

Win 7 RTM Won't Install On Drive With Plenty Of Space
I am trying to install Windows 7 RTM on a Gateway P-7811 computer with lots of space left open on the drive, and Windows 7 Setup keeps on giving me the message that there is "Not enough space available on the hard drive to install". I had this same problem with the Windows 7 RC1 and Beta versions, and I traced it back to using Easeus Partition Master on the drive to remove a OEM Recovery Partition and combine that space into my primary partition.

While I could do a clean install, there is a lot of information on this drive that I do not want to lose, simply put, and was wondering if anyone else had this problem and, if so, what the fix is for it?

Won't Detect Another Partition
I installed Windows 7 earlier today and I like it so far but I have a question: I partitioned 25 GB out of a 140GB HDD through Vista(I have Vista and Win 7 dual-booted), and Windows 7 will not recognize the partition of the hard drive that I have Vista installed on. Is anyone else having this problem and if so, do you know any fixes other than just reporting the error to Microsoft?

Won't Detect Primary Monitor
I'm using a Sager 3790 notebook with 2 GB of memory, a Centrino 1.7 Ghz and a Mobility Radeon 9700.

Installation went perfectly. The card was detected by Windows Update and drivers were isntalled for it. They're from December 2008. Okay, that's fine and dandy... BUT...

As soon as the drivers install the highest resolution available on the primary display is 640x480. Why? Because Windows won't/can't detect my primary monitor. It shows up as an "Unknown display device."

I can attach an external monitor and adjust its resolution all day. I can also remote into the laptop and that works fine.

I am nearly 100% confident that I cannot change the display resolution because the monitor won't detect correctly. I can't manually force an install of a monitor or change the "Unknown display device" driver because that section is grayed out in the "Advanced Settings" under the Display Resolution tab.

Any ideas?

Win7 Can't Install To Empty SATA Drive
I am trying to install the win 7 beta both 64 bit and 32 bit on my ASUS mobo amd phenom based system on a blank fujitsu SATA hdd. I have tried with the bios set to ahci and to non ahci.  I have tried without and with the drivers from my mobo for vista 32 bit or vista 64 bit where appropriate for ahci and non ahci installs.

In all cases it gets to the point where the formatter appears. It always sees the drive and can format it, but only as a primary partition.  It has no facility to create a system partition. When you click next, it says it can't find or create a system partition to install on.

If I use an external utility to create the ntfs partition and make it bootable, the win 7 partitioner sees the system partition, but still gives the same error message about not being able to find or create a system partition. The drive is a blank freshly formatted drive with 118 GB free on it.

After backing out of the install, the drive is formatted as NTFS and works fine for data storage.  I have tried with the drive as unallocated space and after the installer creates the partition and formats it, it still gives the same error message. It also says there is additional information in the log files, but I can't find any way to view them, if they even exist at all.help?

X64 Won't Detect GeForce Card, Only VGA
So, I upgraded from 32-bit Vista to Windows 7 RC. All went well, except for my computer now only detects (under Display Adapters) a Standard VGA Adapter. I have a Dell XPS M1530 notebook, and it came with a nVidia GeForce card, I believe it was a GeForce 8600M GT. I right-clicked and told it to check for hardware changes, but it will not detect the graphics card.

Because of this, it is not displaying any of the Aero effects, etc, and my second monitor is not receiving any signal although it is properly connected.

Does anyone know how I would be able to fix this?

XP And 7 Install Issues (Won't Boot Into Win 7 Install)
I have XP SP2 installed. I used EASEUS Partition Master to split my drive in half, one half being XP, the other half being a future install of Windows 7.

Put DVD in, selected the blank partition, began the install. Once it gets to the first reboot, it will reboot and go straight into XP. There is no option to choose Windows 7. The XP boot.ini has only one entry for XP.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking I need to add an entry for Windows 7, but have no clue what to put and I'm also guessing I'd have to add a few special tags because it's booting into the setup process of Win 7.

Computer Won't Recognize Any CD Drive For Win 7
I'm building a new computer. I have the following specs:

EVGA 790i motherboard Intel Quad Core 2.66 8gb ram 500gb western digital HDD I installed an 'upgrade' copy of windows 7 on my new HDD and it installed perfectly.

The problem, of course, is that I needed the full version, and the product ID wouldn't work.  So once I realized that I had an upgrade version, I figured that I would just install Vista and then upgrade to 7. I tried this, but Windows 7 wouldn't allow it.

so I formatted the HDD in order to start over. Now when I turn on my computer, Windows 7 tries to boot but says that it's missing the bootmgr files, and to insert a bootable CD. But now my computer isn't recognizing ANY CD Drives. I have three different CD drives that I'm working with. Two are IDE and one is Sata.

None of them are recognized by this computer, but all of them work on my other computer using the same cables. I have gone into my BIOS and changed the boot priority to CD Drive and disabled all the other options. I have unplugged my HDD completely on reboot.

I have unplugged my motherboard battery and left it out for some time and tried again. I'm out of ideas and very frustrated. I feel like if I can get my system to recognize ANY of my CD drives then I will be able to reinstall windows.

Matrox Win 7(x64) Display Driver Won't Install
I'm having problems installing my Matrox driver on windows 7(x64) version.

I've been using the 32bit version of windows 7, and i managed to get the matrox driver installed no problem. (i used the windows compatibility mode)

I've tried the same method again (Windows compatibility mode) and downloaded the Vista(x64) version of the driver. It suggests the right diver to install but then says i have an incompatible version of windows.

I have read up on the problem, and i have seen suggestions to check that the device ID is listed in the display drivers .inf file.

I've checked that and my device ID does exsist in the driver .inf file. So now i'm stumped, is there another way to install my driver?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why my driver won't install.

Win 7 Won't Recognise My 3rd Hard Drive
I have 3 hard drives installed on my Pc with windows vista. Everything runned perfectly well. Then I decided to install Windows 7 RC. It installs properly on my first drive and also shows my second hard drive.

But in my computer there is nothing about the third hard drive. Is there a way so that Windows 7 can recognise it as well? When installing windows 7 it also showed it as a drive that could be used to install the windows but now that I installed them in another drive it does appear under my computer at all.

Won't Detect My Blank Disc For Ubuntu Image On Disc
I have a blank rewritable cd from office depot that I have not gotten my computer to detect while its blank, nor when I put ubuntu onto it.

I know that its detected on my dad's 32 bit vista, which is the same computer I used to burn the image on Roxio. And I know that it boots with the burned on ubuntu on his computer.

But it will not detect it after multiple tries on my computer. Neither during bootup or after bootup. Regular CDs and DVDs are detected and play fine though.

Specs:

I have Windows RC on this computer. The drivers say they are updated and working. This is a laptop that originally came with Vista x64, that I have reformatted first with Windows 7 Beta 32 bit, then Windows 7 RC 32 bit.

(at the moment I prefer 32 bit cause its compatible with my printer)

Troubleshooting: I already tried everything in this link. Vista Blank Disc Issue

Win 7 Won't See Drive Partition / Chkdsk Finds No Problems
I have a bizarre problem in that every time that my machine boots it wants to run chkdsk for my second drive (assigned letter d:), chkdsk runs through and finds no errors but when windows finishes loading the drive shows up but as "Raw" or unformatted.  I can again run chkdsk from a cmd window including with /f /r and it finds no problems.

I should also add that the windows event viewer has constant entries of error 55. If there is anything else that I can provide, please let me know.  This really has me stumped and I really appreciate any help that anyone can provide.  My google-fu is also not strong enough for this.

The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume D:.

HP Can't Detect DVD/CD Buring Drive
I just purchased a dv7-1261wm and installed Windows 7. But in Device Manager, it shows 5 drivers that didn't install. There are 4 listed as "Base System Device" and 1 as "Unknown Device". I've installed all the drivers from HP's site, but that didn't help.

The main issue though is the CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Rom drive doesn't detect in any burning programs. It shows as installed fine, but burning programs can't access it.

Install Win7 On SATA Drive
I have a HP m7667c, which has two SATA drives. The motherboard is ASUS P5BW-LA (or Basswood-UL8E). I've never successfully installed vista before because of it kept asking for SATA drive. I wonder if there is a solution for this problem with Window 7?

I think I have RAID on in the BIOS configuration but I don't really want to turn it off because in that way my old WinXP would die. I just wanted to give Windows 7 a try before I completely change to it. Could anyone help me? I could provide more information about the desktop if necessary.

All Programs Won't Display And Speech Recognition Won't Start
My speech recogntiion won't start. I don't have a system restore that far back, but it hasn't been working since 3, maybe 4 updates back and I am now just getting around to it, since I have had other concerns lately. The error I get is "Speech recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported.

The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options." I go there and press certain buttons and I sometimes get the error message "The requested task can not be carried out because the neccesary engine can not be created. Please select a different engine and/or audio device."

I have tried changing the laguage and then restarting and it still won't work. I am using the same mic I was using before when it worked. I have not installed any new sound drivers when it stopped although I have looked for the sound drivers since and there are no new ones.

I also had two other problems after the same Windows 7 update with the All Programs not displaying in the Start Menu, but I have dont a temporary fix with that, but it is still not working the way it is supposed to as I had to make a new sub folder in the Programs folder and change the location to that folder every time I start up Windows and so now I go into All Programs and then a second folder, which is ok for now, gonna write a batch file to do it for me anyway.

The other problem is that my sidebar wouldn't start, but I think I fixed that last night. As my gadgets are now working.

Install Error, I/O Communications, SATA Drive
i am not sure it's windwos 7 problem or my configurations

i tried to install windows 7 RC on the below setup (all new), but failed

1. SATA harddisk, WD Cavier 1T

2. mobo, Gigebyte GA-GM-785-S2H

3. SATA optical drive. LG-GGC...

the last two components work fine if i replace the SATA HD to a IDE HD, meaning the existing system (xp) started normally. no windows 7 installation

but, when i try the 3 componenets togehter to install windows 7 (the SATA HD was not even formated). the scenarios were:

1. if i configured the cmos to see the SATA HD as AHIC mode, the system would freeze at "verifying DMI pool", not even bothering to start the windows 7 installation disk (even i defined only one start-up device, my optical sata).

2, if i configured the cmos to see the SATA HD as Native IDE mode, the system would go to the optical sata and found windows 7. THE PROBLEM came during "windows is loading files". after like half min, the error message popped out, saying an I/O error occured, either i had a external usb drive corrupted or a storage fault.

The problem came out when i had no usb devices attached at all. then i also tried to copy SATA mobo driver to a usb stick and connected to the system. but still the same problem.

i also tried clear cmos, load default profie,

My questions:

1, how to solve this....

2, should i set native IDE mode before installing windows 7(also other windows systems?)

3, what is at least the correct way to install this.

4, is this a windows 7 installation issue or what?
