Why Does Computer Lag Randomly
Nov 3, 2012
So I have this computer which lags. It starts lagging after a while after I switch on my computer. I play Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty 4. The problem is that the framerate gets really choppy and it drives me crazy, especially when I am about to takedown someone. So i rage-quitted and found out that Windows is lagging too. A usual web page takes less than 10 seconds to load, but with the lag it takes about a minute. Closing programs also takes longer and sometimes it freezes for a while. I figured that it might be caused by overheating but I checked the temperature with EVGA Precision X and the temperature is only about 40-50 degrees Celsius. Here are my specs:
Intel i3-530 2.93Ghz
Nvidia GeForce GT 610 2GB DDR3
4GB DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2

Computer runs very slow. Computer freezes randomly. Does not want to boot past windows startup except for in safe mode(SOMETIMES). IF IT BOOTS takes and an incredibly long time to get to the desktop (20-45min). Does not want to run programs. Runs EXTREMELY slowly (makes a windows 95 pc look like a speed demon.) Random restarts, restart loops, and shutdowns. Sometimes after turning on it will immediately shut off then turn back on. Keeps recommending windows repair on startup. Wants to run chkdsk, then freezes on it.Malware detection programs. Hardware diagnostic programs. registry tools. disk defrags. Driver updates. Windows updates. BIOS update. System restore. Windows repair tool. Repair installation (twice). WINDOWS 7 CLEAN INSTALLATION (twice).Exactly the same as the first day it started happening. So not only did I lose all programs and files, but my pc still runs like crap. Also, this is a higher end pc under a year old. [code]

For the past month or so, my laptop has been randomly shutting down with no warning whatsoever. It doesn't even restart, it just completely turns off. I can be doing anything and it will happen.
At first I thought it was overheating but then I installed SpeedFan and it's still doing it (and I can tell from feeling under the computer that it's no longer overheating).
I've run virus scan after virus scan (Malwarebyetes and Microsoft Security Essentials) but it's not finding anything wrong with my computer.

I've got a relatively new custom PC (around 3 months old) and I have problems with it. It was put together by the same shop that sold the parts. It recently started to crash constantly at seemingly random times. Sometimes it would run fine for 5 days without any issues, at other times it would crash once every day for a few days. Even the cause isn't always the same. It would either give me a BSoD or simply shut down without any message and restart itself.

I have a problem with my win 7 computer randomly shutting down. I experienced overheating from graphic card and CPU or a bad HDD where the computer would just freeze and shut down (from my other computers), but this one shuts down as if I clicked on 'shut down' button on my start tab.
It closes my open applications first then shows 'logging off' screen to 'shutting down' screen and than shuts down. This happens pretty randomly. I use this computer mainly for web surfing and watching videos. I never use it for gaming. Sometimes it would shut down within 5 minute of usage and some other times it would not shut down at all for hours.
Its a HP compaq machine with 2.7ghz AMD Sempron, 2GB SDRAM, and Window 7 home premium 64bit. I added a Radeon HD X1300 graphic card and been using it for about 2 years without problem.
I ran all diagnostic programs and ran Malwarebyte AntiMalware and Microsoft Security Essential and found no problem. CPUID HWmonitor showed all components were around 30-45 degrees. My only guess left is the power supply.

i've somewhat recently built myself a new gaming rig due to my old system being horribly outdated and unreliable and from day one of using the new computer i've had some problems with crashing.basically, the computer crashes at least once per day and is seemingly undetectable as to when this happens, the only thing intensifying the crashing seems to be streaming videos online, ie. Internet, facebook, dailymotion videos etc.a friend of mine had compiled the list of parts that i would use to build the computer, and also did the majority of assembling (which i cannot notice any problems with by looking at the inside of the tower). this same friend, after hearing about constant crashing problems and unreliability as to when it would crash had suggested a problem with the system's memory, but after swapping out hdd's and even installing an ssd? here is a list of my system specs.
corsair 8gb ram
western digital 2tb internal hdd
ocz agility 60gb ssd (boot disc)
win7 ultimate 32-bit os
lite-on dvd drive
intel core i5 2500k processor
asus geforce gtx 560 directcu ii top 1024mb video card
antec 650w power supply
aerocool vx-e pro case
asrock z77 pro 4-m motherboard

I reformatted my computer a couple weeks ago in order to install my new 40GB SSD drive and ever since, my computer has been randomly crashing. It has never happened when I was actually using it, but it has happened a couple times when I'm sitting next to it. It seems to just shut off and come back on. When it turns back on, I get this dialog...

so my computer is starting to randomly restart and I'm not sure why. I thought it was my video card and switched to the integrated video card and pulled out my other one and I still get it. I tried a memtest and got no errors also.no heating issues at all. speedfan showed nothing overheating. ( I have 4 fans installed) now the problem I'm wondering is a MB short or the PSU. I tried enabling BSOD but it just reboots. it just started happening today.

I just recently bought my computer, It's been only about 4 months. I spent about 3k on it. It has 16 gigs of ram, Asus motherboard, ATI firepro v7800 which is a $750 graphics card, liquid cooling for my processor and I have a 120 SSD. Since a week or so I've been noticing my computer do weird stuff like if I'm listening to music and doing some work with 3d softwares the sound randomly lags a bit for about 1-3 seconds. And sometimes it messes up my mouse cursor.I spent quite a bit of money on my computer and bought all the parts that were top of the line 4 months ago. I would expect a new computer worth 3k to work exceptionally well and not be slow or anything. Does any have any idea what might be causing this problem? Do you think a part might be deffective and is not working properly and so how would I test it to confirm?

It just did it again 2 times in the last 30minutes and now im on chrome. It would usually black out for 1 second then the BSOD comes on for another 1s then the screen totally blacks out like theres no system unit connected to it and yet the sound coming from the unit can only indicate its still running!is something burning out in my computer or is it just firefox? on windows 7 btw, computer bought in june 2010.Ran memtest and after 7 passes and 7 hours there were no errors.

i will be listening to Internet and playing a game (minecraft) while having a skype conversation. all is working fine, no cpu spikes, no high memory, then everything just stops.all audio is cut, all screens display what they had and nothing more (no update/movement), the mouse doesn't move and keyboard does not respond either.according to the hard drive activity light, there is no activity either.pressing the reset button on the case has no effect until pressed about four/five times in which then the computer will reset.system log has no relevant data on the complete stop, crash happened around 5:15pm and no log between 4:57:56pm - 5:26:36pm except for logons and logoffs.will be picking up canned air and removing all dust from the machine to rule out over heating.this is not really a constant issue, just keeps happening randomly, no really pattern.

Since last month my computer (Windows 7, 64-bit) has been randomly freezing up for a long time. When it gets frozen, I get the busy icon (like a rotating circle) in place of my mouse pointer. I click anything nothing works, it completely freezes. I have a habbit of opening too many tabs (maybe more than 50-60 on 2-3 windows)on my chrome and firefox. So i used to think that it was happening because of that. So i stopped opening so many of them and started using IE and opens maximum upto 5 tabs at once. But the system still freezes. Sometimes when it freezes I leave the system as it is for about 20-30 mins then it comes back to normal again for few mins then restarts it to come back to normal. Many times, i did the forced shut down but when I start it again, the OS is still frozen; sometimes before logging in (i.e when WIN-7 starts) but most of the times, just after logging in (after entering the password and clicking the log in button). I tried the memory scan by Avast free AV but it showed no errors. I have MSE installed before I disabled it and started Avast. Also I got MalwareBytes Anti-malware installed. I ran full scans for all three but to no avail. Also my HDD (500GB) is 45% free so no issue in that area.
Also, when it freezes upon startup i sometimes see just a header of a window titled as SSCKbdHK.exe. Searched it and found that it is not a virus and just a Samsung keyboard process. Also earlier, sometimes when after 20-30mins, system comes back to normal state, after 1-2 flipping of screens an error which was something like "NVIDIA GeForce 310M driver ver 8.16.189.11 had encountered problems and had been restored back." I tried searching for drivers on OEM website and saw that this was the latest driver available there. but on Nvidia site, the latest driver is 301.42 (may 2012 release). Should i try installing it and check??

[SOLVED]couple of curse words and a sfc /scannow seems to have fixed the problem :DMy HDD has some bad sectors on it (I already ordered a new HDD because I think this one is going to fail soon) sometimes when I boot up in my BIOS after the POST I will get a HDD not detected error if I cold boot it goes away and I am presented with my GRUB (I dual booted Win7 & Linux Mint). Is it possible that these random hangs are caused by my HDD?Mod Edit:Removed DDS log, not applicable/allowed in this forum, issue resolved by OP

I can't seem to play a certain game without the computer freezing and shutting off on me, but it doesn't end there. After using system restore and trying to run windows update my computer did the same thing again. The symptom that puzzles me the most is the system will refuse to boot into windows for a bit after a shutdown. It will get to the Starting Windows screen and stop loading during the logo formation, ending in a shutdown. This seems to happen regardless of Last Known Good Configuration, Safe Mode, etc. My computer is a Toshiba Satellite a505 laptop. I have run sfc /scannow, chkdsk /f /r, and two memory tests. sfc found nothing, chkdsk found one bad cluster in the free space, and the first memory test made the computer shut down towards the beginning. The second memory test was Windows Memory Diagnostic and that shut down in the 6th area of the first pass. I'm suspecting it's the RAM, but I can't be certain, especially since both sticks boot up the computer just fine by themselves. This started happening about 3 days ago after the laptop fell from my lap on accident. I really hope I don't have to buy a new computer...

I am getting really tired of my computer crashing constantly. The main concerns are: ntoskrnl.exe, atikmdag.sys and dxgmms1.sys. I have fresh installed four times, updated all of my drivers and DirectX, too. Nothing helped. I have send my PC back to it's manufacturer 2 times, and they said it was fine. I have also run Windows Memory Diagnostics without any errors. It happens randomly, even though what I am doing on my computer (work, games, surfing the interwebs etc.

For the last month my computer has been freezing randomly e.g. at the login screen or sometimes every 10-15 mins, and its becoming very frustrating for me. Today after searching the internet i found out that disabling some of the services might solve the problem. So after an hour of disabling and enabling services i have found out that the power service is causing the problem, however disabling it removes the option of having sound.what the power service is and what can i do to fix it so that i can enable it and have sound.
ps this is my computer spec's:
windows 7 home preimum 32bit
3.20Ghz intel pentum 4 processor
2Gb RAM
Ati Radeon xpress 200 series (graphic card)

Recently my computer randomly shuts off, then it tries to turn itself on by itself and it keeps rapidly turning on and off like simultaneously, after like 10 sec it finally shuts off, during the on and off process the power light blinks yellow to white. It can take little as 3 hours before it happens to a whole day, so during all that time i am mostly playing WoW or League of Legends, so the 3 hours to a day seems odd in when it does it. It only happens when i am watching a movie or show or playing a game. If i just leave my computer alone it never does it. I have a cpu temp program and gpu temp program and the temps are no where near the max temp.

So about a 3 month ago my computer started to freeze 3 - 10 times a day, at first i thought the problem was GoogleChrome, because out of coincidence it would freeze when i was watching a video. i was looking at 100's of forums for some kind of solution but nothing helpedi recently checked event view after 3 simultaneous crashes and the little error icon showed next to it Bonjour (an apple software), i proceeded to uninstall all of the apple related software on my computer and it obviously didn't help.my computer recently freezed so i checked event view and on the time it freezed i got 3 errors and 1 warning Error 1: A duplicate name has been detected on the TCP network. The IP address of the computer that sent the message is in the data. Use nbtstat -n in a command window to see which name is in the Conflict state. Error 2: A duplicate name has been detected on the TCP network. The IP address of the computer that sent the message is in the data. I have been having this problem ever since I built my PC, my computer will randomly freeze, and everything will become unresponsive. The only way I can get it to work again is to force a shutdown with the power button on my case, ctrl+alt+del doesn't work.I have done a memory test and it was all clear.System Specs:i7 960 Asus Sabertooth X58EVGA Geforce GTX 460Corsair TX750GSkill 6 gb DDR3 1600 (3x2gb)Not entirely sure how I figure this out. I'm not familiar with Event Viewer so I can't really tell if what I'm looking at is the problem.
