What Is Trustedinstaller.exe
Nov 8, 2009
Sometimes I see exessive hard disk activity, and when i check Task Manager I find a process called TrustedInstaller.exe. I've heard it has something to do with Windows Update, but it's not installing or downloading any updates (I check this in Control Panel).

I'm at a friends house trying to get connected to the internet. (currently on a mac, but brought my tower over). He says that windows vista, Xp and mac can connect to his wireless router but my tower wont do it.
When I put in the username/password it says error 651. I looked it up and a page told me to change the raspppoe.sys file to raspppoe_orig.sys, but then it says i need permission from trusted installer, how do I go about doing this?

I recently took ownership of the explorer.exe file so that I could modify my Windows 7 start orb. Everything went well and my new orb looks great. I am now trying to give ownership back to TrustedInstaller using NT SERVICETrustedInstaller. It appears that ownership does in fact change to TrustedInstaller, however, I'm still able to change and modify the explorer.exe file, even though I'm not the owner anymore. I've gone into permissions but I can't "allow" any control on the administrator account. (it's all grayed out) I can only "deny" control. I remember seeing a warning about inherited permissions on that file but when I unchecked it, the only account remaining in the accounts list was TrustedInstaller.

When I try to delete this program from the program files and program files(x86) folderes, I get a message that I need permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes. So I went into the properties and changed the sharing settings, to share with myself of course. I have only been able to give myself permissions in one of the folders. After doing this, it lets me begin deleting. It begins going through several screens informing that it is a shared folder, that deleting it will affect other users but it eventually comes back to the message that I need permission to get rid of something on myown computer!
