Vista's Version Of Movie Maker Is Deleted When You Upgrade To The Win 7 RC
I cannot find Vista's version of Windows Movie Maker now that I upgraded from Vista to the Windows 7 RC, so I assume it was deleted in the process even though it is compatible from what I understand. Windows Live Movie Maker Beta remained, but this is a very basic editor right now as it currently doesn't allow splicing, doesn't allow editing of audio tracks, and has very limited output choices (two).

No Upgrade Path For Movie Maker Videos Created Under Vista
After upgrading to Windows 7 I can't believe MS just dropped the Move Maker feature with no upgrade path. I have tried the new Windows Live Version but it is limited in functionality and doesn't support projects that were created in Vista. I also tried the 2.6 version also, but it seems to only be XP compatible and doesn't support Vista created projects either. So, how do I continue to work with my Vista created Movie Maker projects on Windows 7? I was hoping that there was a Vista version of Movie Maker that I could download, but all I can find is the 2.6 version or the live version. I am running Windows 7 Pro.

Upgrade From Win XP / Vista To Win7: Product Key Language Version
We currently run 3 PCs at home (all 32 bit): PC 1: German Windows Vista Home Premium PC 2 & 3: English Windows XP Home I'd like to purchase the Windows 7 family pack (English) to upgrade all of the PCs (clean install preferred). Questions: 1. Can all 3 PCs be upgraded to the English version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with the family pack, despite the different language versions? 2. When performing a clean install, is it sufficient to enter the product key of the previously installed system when using the upgrade disk/key or is the old system required on the harddisk? 3. Just to confirm: The family pack comes with both, the 32 bit and 64 bit version for Windows 7 Home Premium?

Movie Maker Program
I need a GOOD Movie Maker Program. My setup is Windows 7 64-bit with 12 GB RAM and 24" Flat Panel Monitor. The Windows Movie Maker Program that came with the computer appears to only import files in AVI format and appears to only BURN to DVD in WMV format. Here is what I am trying to do. I have many old VCR tapes of family events. I bought a converter box that lets me convert VCR tapes onto DVD's. I also have a newer camcorder that records on Mini-tapes. I can use the firewall cable and import those directly into the computer with Windows Movie Maker but as previously mentioned they get saved on the HD as AVI files ONLY. My goal is to be able to take all those files and cut/paste whatever pieces of each individual files that I want, reorder them in whatever order I want (probably chronologically) and then splice them together to make a movie. Finally I want to be able to burn these movies to DVD in whatever format I want (not just WMV as Windows Movie Maker insists on) I already have the following programs on my machine. (All came in the machine) Windows DVD maker Windows Movie Maker Roxio Easy CD & DVD Burning I don't mind putting in some time to learn a new program but I don't want to find out that I wasted my time because the program just can't do what I want it to do. Any advice or which movie maker program to get/use would be greatly appeciated. If one of the programs that I listed above already does everything that I said I wanted to do, then don't hesitate to write back, call me an IDIOT and tell me which program does what I want.

Upgrade Path From Localized Version Of Vista To MSDNAA EN US Version Of Win7
I'm running an OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium, and since I'm a class B netizen I only had access to a localized version of my operative system. The MSDNAA graciously makes a copy of Windows 7 Professional English and a copy of Windows 7 Multilanguage Pack available to me. Howerer there is no localized version of the former and no WinVista equivalent of the latter. The Windows installer aborts pointing out the localization conflict and links me to this unhelpful page. My OEM seems to have disabled the option of using Windows Anytime Upgrade, so I will not pour money into this option just to get the option to relocalize my OS to English 'just in case'. Also, I would really rather not lose a week into driver scavenging, clicking through programs installers, staring at progress bars getting filled (multiple times). I'd really want to just upgrade. Is this a dead end? Do I have to cross my fingers and wait for Godot err a localized version of Win7 to appear on MSDNAA? Or is there a way around this?

Error On Movie Maker When Trying To Use The Mic
I'm running xp,with service pak 3,  and trying to make a short video with voice over. Everytime I click on the mic, I get a error msg that simply says, " Unknown error has occured", no error number or any info as to what to try and fix. I can't delete and re-download it, keeps saying the program is in use by other programs. Any Ideas on what needs checking?

Mail / Movie Maker Question
That question would be, instead of using a USB thumb drive to copy the Windows Mail and Movie Maker 6 folders, could I use an SD card instead? An SD card is more convenient for me anyway, so that's why I ask.

Live Movie Maker Import Problem
I'm having a problem with Windows Live Movie Maker. Before, when I used Windows Vista, I would plug in my camcorder (firewire), the import video wizard would pop up, and then I would have an option to choose between AVI and WMV. This was really really good for me, because an hour of AVI takes up 13 gigabytes, whereas an hour of WMV takes up 1 gigabyte. However, this option is no longer there with Windows Live Movie Maker, or Windows 7 in general. It simply defaults to AVI and I then have to convert it later, thus doubling my time spend on the project. Does anyone have any idea how to re-enable WMV, or perhaps of another Windows program that would do the job? Basically, I want it to import the video directly to WMV, or any other format that doesn't take up 13 gigabytes per hour, without sacrificing quality. (WMV is great in that regard by the way. The quality is great) .

Movie Maker Unable To Work With Widescreen Content
Imported video from a Sony digital-8 camcorder. The video files (720x480) playback fine in WMP. When WLMM project settings are 4:3 aspect, everything works fine. When I try to switch the project to "widescreen" movie maker locks up. If I start a new project and set it at widescreen from the start, the videos will not import and also results in WLMM locking up.  Is this functionality still a work in progress? I also notice a lack of DVD compatible output formats (only .WMV as far as I can tell).  Windows movie maker in XP had the option to output to uncompressed video, which I consider acceptable for video to be re-processed onto a DVD. Do tell me this important feature hasn't been intentionally stripped away! At the moment I've been handed home video from a friend's wedding which needs a moderate amount of cleanup editing and a title added before it can be burnt to DVD, it's shot in widescreen and needs to remain in that aspect without black borders. Would it be advisable to turn to 3rd party software to accomplish this in a timely manner?

Symbolic Links (symlinks) Deleted During Upgrade To Win 7
I've just upgrade two systems from Windows Vista SP2 to Windows 7 (both Ultimate). On both systems, I have symlinks throughout the system for various purposes, and on both systems, symbolic links were removed as part of the installation. Not all symbolic links were removed. Symbolic links in the root seem to be untouched. Additionally, some symbolic links in folders not created by Windows were untouched (e.g. c:vmsMyVMBackup.vmdk). However, it appears all symbolic links were removed from the following directories and their children: - C:Users - C:Program Files - C:Program Files (x86) - C:ProgramData No mention was made during the upgrade advisor of symlinks being removed. Neither was any indication left of which symlinks were removed. Therefore, I'm left to just see what breaks, track it down, and replace the symlinks. Is this by design? If so, it would be nice for Windows to at least inform the user that they will be deleted and report on what symlinks are affected (even a text file on the desktop indicating "deleted symlinks" with the location and target).

Win 7 Won't Boot Past Wallpaper After Vista Upgrade
I just updated from Vista to 7. With only one admin account with no password, the computer boots up to the wallpaper image but doesn't load icons or desktop. ctrl alt del leads to a black screen, the computer shuts itself down if i hit the power button. i can boot into safe mode, actually got the system to fully start with normal startup after restarting from safe mode, but is now back to having the same problem. i added another user account and the computer shows the same symptoms, only it doesn't load wallpaper, just a black screen. i ran the repair feature off the windows install disc and it found no problems, diskchk also finds nothing.

Upgrading W7 From Vista Upgrade Version
I currently have the full version of XP Pro 32. I completely skipped Vista. I'm now thinking of buying Vista Home Premium Upgrade version because of the offer to get a free upgrade to Win 7 when officially launched. So I have a few questions: Is XP Pro -> Vista Home Premium -> W7 Home Premium a valid upgrade path? I understand that the W7 DVD will have both 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Would I be right in thinking that I can install either, regardless of the fact that I started the upgrade path with a 32 bit XP? And that I can only install 32 bit OR 64 bit - I can't have both on different PCs. Since I'm upgrading an upgrade, will I need to do a minimal XP install, followed by a minimal Vista install, followed by a W7 install or can I just show W7 the earlier installer disc on a clean installation? Will my copy of W7 replace the Vista copy - in other words will I still have a single license, or can I install W7 on my main PC and have the Vista installation on the spare PC in the corner?

WMP Plays Mp4s But Win DVD Maker Won't Import Them
I made some mp4 movie files on my new Ubuntu 9.04 Studio box using the Flash Video Resources Downloader FireFox pluging to capture videos off YouTube. Works great! But the Brasero Linux burner failed to properly burn a DVD to play in a DVD player on my USB connected burner, so I went searching for a Win solution. Tried to play the mp4s on XP WMP 9, not recognized. My Nero wouldn't import them either (maybe it wanted money). Win 7 did play them but the Win 7 DVD Maker choked. I figured wrong that if one Win 7 product handles them, then another would too. For that matter, if MS left Mail out of Win 7 due to anti-trust issues, why is WMP still here?

Perfectdisk Version 10 Stops Upgrade Of Vista 32
I went to upgrade my Dell XPS M1730 notebook from vista 32bit and when running the combatibility test it said that I needed to uninstall Norton 2009 and Perfect Disk 10 which I did. Restarted and tried the install again from within Vista and it still asked for Perfect disk to be uninstalled even thone driveugh it was not on the system any longer. I even went to regedit and made sure there were no registry items left behind and there were not. So a suggestion in the final code is somehow to make sure that when Perfect disk is installed and uninstalled as suggested the upgrade can go ahead. I did a clean install of the 64bit project deleting the previous windows without issue and all went well and all drivers except for the Nvida 9700 GT mobile series were installed which is nice. Great job. Fast and resonsive for the most.

Installing 7 To SSD With Upgrade Version, Vista On Another HDD
I searched for a solution to my issue and could not quite find anything exactly like it. Here is what I have and what I am looking to do: I currently have a HDD in an HP system, with OEM Vista loaded on it. I just purchased a retail copy of Windows 7 Home premium upgrade and a SSD. I plan to use the SSD for boot, windows, and World of Warcraft. What I want: To do a clean install of Windows 7 on the SSD. I plan to wipeout the HDD afterward and use it as a storage drive, as I have no use for Vista. Question: What is the easiest way to do this? I was planning to just hook it all up, pop the Windows 7 disk in, start it up, and do a custom install to the SSD. Load up windows, activate the thing, then wipe the HDD. However, someone said that might not work and I might have to call Microsoft with my Vista key.

No 'explorer' After In-place Upgrade (to Win7) From Vista Ultimate (both 64-bit)
After installing Windows 7 on a well-working VISTA Ultimate 64-bit machine with Window 7's 64-bit upgrade, a couple of hours later all seemed well - UNTIL ...The Welcome screen (normal - and in high resolution) 2550 x 1600 - then a black screen with only "Windows 7<new line> Evaluation copy, Build 7100".Never any progress after this - explorer won't load (or exits right after it loads).Ctrl-Alt-Delete brings up Windows Task Manager, and you can run virtually anything by selecting "New Task" and browsing to the appropriate executable. Office 2007, Outlook, the Internet, etc. can all be run without problem using this method. There are NO icons anywhere - no task bar - no start button - NOTHING. Have tried countless times. I cannot get to Windows Update (because there is NO start button).I DO get explorer to run in "Safe Mode" - but can't get resolution high.I did dual boot VISTA Ultimate and Windows 7 for several months. It was only when I delete the previous beta and tried to install Windows 7 that all "H" broke loose. I tried upgrading the video drivers (from ATI for 4890) and those installed OK - but can't get to the control panel for those either.I've tried everything. Explorer (NOT INTERNET EXPLORER) will not run in 'normal mode.'I don't want to do a complete reinstall on a 'clean' HD unless I have to. I can access all my data now using the Task Manager - but I have so many programs installed it would take days and days to redo everything from scratch.Any suggestions?
