Video Driver Stopped Responding

Apr 6, 2011

I recently upgraded to windows 7 from vista to try and solve an issue I have with my video drivers crashing whenever i do something graphically intensive.I opened up a thread on the vista forums here: Video Drivers Crashing - Vista Forums. But it doesn't seem that anyone can help me. I tried all of the basic troubleshooting steps, and have updated all the drivers on my system. The problem I am having is that I upgraded my graphics card recently to an Nvidia 430GT. I have done numerous checks (RAM, CPU, power supply, updated every driver on my system, etc.), and have had the graphics card replaced, but am still receiving the same issue. When I load up video games I will receive the message "Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has recovered" at random intervals.Sometimes my system will completely freeze because the drivers won't recover. I contacted nvidia about the drivers and they had me try out a few driver versions (which i had already done), before telling me to get the graphics card replaced.

Display Driver Stopped Responding

I have a dell inspiron 1501 Laptop that came with the vista platform. However, I have upgraded my computer since (and it's been years now as well) to windows 7 ultimate. For months I have been able to use my computer fine with no problems whatsoever pertaining to my Display, but of late, since about 3 months now or so, my computer has been delaying when I am watching movies and now every time I am on it, my display driver keeps on stopping and then displays this message

"DISPLAY DRIVER STOPPED AND HAS RECOVERED"

I get this message I would say almost every 2-5 minutes when I am using my computer. It is getting frustrating because it makes it harder to watch movies, and burn any kind of dvds on my computer.

Display Driver Has Stopped Responding

May 3, 2012

I am currently having an issue with what I think is my graphics card. When I run online games the game runs for about 2 minutes, crashes and says "display driver AMD has stopped responding and has been repaired." I've googled this problem and none of the solutions that I've found have worked. I've downloaded Microsoft fix it center and it says nothing it wrong. I've tried to update the card but it says it's already updated.

-My graphics card is: AMD Radeon HD 6630

-My computer model is: Sony VIAO SE

AMD - Display Driver Stopped Responding

Sep 14, 2012

I have a fairly fresh install of Windows 7 (< 1 month), because I found a good deal on a SSD I couldnt pass up, and it has been running nice. I mostly use this machine for working and as such used the on-board graphics card of the motherboard (GA-880GM-UD2H), however with the great reviews on Guild Wars 2 I figured I would get back into gaming and bought a XFX Radeon HD 6870 for the occasion. As my Thermaltake TR2-450 would not be sufficient for this FX card I swapped it with a TR2-500 I had on another machine. I can play GW2 for hours at best quality and it works great no slugginess or stuttering at all. However if I start the machine and open up a browser I can within 5 min get 2-3 errors (Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.), and eventually the system will reboot. It is not limited to one browser and has also happened with Windows Live Mail.

System OS: Windows 7 Home Premium Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 440 Processor, 3000 MHz, 3 Core(s), 3 Logical Processor(s) Ram: Kingston Hyper X DDR3 16GB 1600 PSU: Thermaltake TR2-500W Graphic: XFX Radeon HD 6870 Corsair Force 3 SSD [Hard drive] (90.03 GB) -- drive 0 ST3500418AS [Hard drive] (500.11 GB) -- drive 1 ST3250620A [Hard drive] (250.06 GB) -- drive 2

Display Driver Has Stopped Responding

Nov 21, 2009

Sometimes, after having been on for a long time, my screen will go black for a few seconds. It comes back a bit awkwardly, with different parts of the screen appearing separately. Once everything is back, I get a little popup saying that the display driver stopped responding, and has recovered. It's only a minor annoyance, but I'd like to know if there's any way to fix this? In my device manager, it says that I'm missing a video controller, which could be the cause of this.

but has recovered...is the message i get right after my games freeze for about 5 seconds. My games never crash when this happens, screen flashes then comes back as if nothing happened. I get this maybe 1 or 2 times every three days or so.I get this message when im gaming sometimes after my computer wakes up from sleep mode(only seen it do it once though).I have tried catalyst drivers 9.11, 9.12, and 10.1. It has been doing this ever since i got my computer a month ago. I have the newest drivers for just about everything. In the beginning i would get this issue half a dozen times a day but now its much more rare for some reason. I have had this issue in every single one of my games at least once.

Nvlddmkm Driver Has Stopped Responding

Feb 2, 2010

As of late I've been thinking about upgrading to windows 7, simply because I've encountered the dreaded "nvlddmkm driver has stopped responding" message, which leads to a lot of crashes and a lot of f'ing and blinding!!! Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I've read about it is, it's a vista only related issue.

My question is, has anyone else experienced this error? And if so would I be right in thinking that installing windows 7 would eliminate this problem? And also have a less glitchy experience with windows?

I've tried so many fixes without luck, I even read that running 1 x DIMM would solve it, which it didn't..

I've changed literally everything in it. From memory (4gb Kingston) and mobo (GA 990FX) to processor (AMD 1090T) to GPU (6870 Asus), have done multiple clean installs with win7 64bit, edited registry by adding a QWORD Tdr value and finally disabling it with TdrLevel 0 and im still getting god damn display driver recovered message.. the amount of money and time alone I have spent on this is rediculous

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
AMD PHENOMII 955 (4x3.2GHZ)
GEFORCE GTX470
1000GB SATAII WD 7200RPM

I am writing this from "safe mode" since my system is not stable enough to run and write this at the same time.My problem started when playing League of Legends (Dominion) Normally i would not have a problem, but once in a while the screen would freeze, occasional artifacts would show on screen. Screen would go black for a second or two, and a pop-up lower right corner would show, saying: "Display driver Nvidia version xxx whatever stopped responding and has recovered" This was not so much of a problem really, since it only happened in the beginning of the game, i searched the forums (league of legends) and noticed other people complaining about this as well, so i figured it would be dealt with at some point by someone else.

The problem is this started happening more and more often. So i decided to update my nvidia drivers to the newest version. Changed nothing, it actually made it worse from what i could tell.. So i downgraded to some older drivers.. didn't change a thing. And yes i did everything by the book, deleting all folders, safe mode driver sweeper etc. I also updated windows 7 completely, since i had the bug where a certain update would "jam" the windows updater, i updated it manually.I then tested different stuff. If i opened Nvidia control panel, and marked the section where you see a slowly spinning logo, after 20-40 seconds my screen would flash black a couple of times, and the message "display driver stopped etc" would pop up.I tried running furmark stability test, i could hardly see the first "image" when running the test, it would shut down instantly. When running minecraft, just running the exe and logging in to the menu, would cause strange artifacts after 10-40 secs and also jamming the system, flashing black and responding with: "display driver stopped etc" (in this case i downloaded Ntune, to monitor the graphic card temperature, it climbed from around 40C to 70C)Currently i'm at a point where i boot my system, and when i hit(as in arrive at) desktop, my screen starts flashing b"l"ack and forth. As in showing the desktop and showing a black screen, flickering.. and then rebooting automatically.

It runs amazing with one major exception.

The screen will occasionally black out, then work fine again after displaying this error

"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"

"Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 195.62 stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

It happens more frequently when I play games.

My friends think my video card is dying, but I am unsure and figured Id check on here.

Display Driver Atikmdag Has Stopped Responding

Nov 10, 2009

I keep getting the message:

"Display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has successfully recovered." I have received over a dozen warnings in the last 14 days, all when browsing the Internet. I have read a couple threads in regards to the atikmdag errors. I currently have all up to date drivers (10-13-09), Mobo Bios, have ran test on my hardware etc.

I have ruled out faulty hardware and my GPU is running at or around 37c to 45c. I am not sure if this warning is result of a faulty driver from ATI? I am RMAing the card back to Newegg and will try one more, if the problem persist looks like I will go a different route.

Also re-installed my printer drivers. Anything else I can try?

ATI Display Driver Stopped Responding And Has Recovered

Dec 12, 2009

I have just installed windows 7 on my pc (a clean install from xp) my pc and hardware was running fine on xp but since I upgraded to win 7 I keep getting a “Display driver stopped responding and has recovered” warning pop up, its really bad its happens 50 something times in the last few hours!!! You get a freeze and or a black screen then it works again for a few minutes.

As soon as I try and go on the internet with IE 8within seconds it does it. It will also do it if I start doing stuff on the desktop as well or even if I am typing a MS word doc so its not just IE 8.

The graphics card is a Sapphire HD 3850 AGP I have tried the latest 8.671.0.0 drivers but it is really bad with these installed it completly crashes and blue screens and restarts so I am currently using the ones windows update put on which is 8.632.1.2000, it still freezez lots but no blue screens so it is a little better.

Has anyone got a fix for this because my new win 7 pc is currently unusable until I get a stable driver sorted.

Display Driver Nvlddmkm Stopped Responding

Dec 24, 2009

During the first 4 days of my new Windows 7 install I was getting constant "Display Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has recovered" events (Event ID 4101 - Level 3 - Task 0 - 0x8000000000000). The best I can recall these events occurred when changing display settings. These events are occuring much less often now. The only instance in the past day or 2 was trying to start Autocad Lt 2010 (separate, bigger issue).

When I installed Windows 7 it loaded the 186.18 driver. That driver folder still exits in C:NVIDIADisplay Driver. I installed the latest nVidia driver - 195.62 - right after the motherboard drivers (second thing). The driver version in device manager is 8.17.11.9562. The option to roll back the driver is grayed out. There are no hardware conflicts.

Memtest and Prime95 tests are clean. I have 6GB of 1333 memory "overclocked" to 1333 in bios. This is because the i7-920 is a "fixed" processor and only defaults to 1066 memory.

Originally (day 1-2) the event occured when trying to switch to an aero theme. Today (day 5) I am using a modified aero theme and have no problems. Is it possible that Windows 7 applied a bug fix transparently?

I have researched and there are many possible solutions offered. The most common is to to re-expand the nvlddmkm.sys file in System32. What do you folks here think/suggest I do?
