Upon Startup, Black Screen With Mouse, No Logon Screen

Okay, I did my research, but it hasn't helped.  I've tried:

1.  F8, enable low resolution video (didn't work)

2.  F8, safe mode (didn't work)

3.  F8, last known good (didn't work)

4.  Startup repair (didn't work) Anybody got other ideas?

I can't login at all as I don't ever get a login screen.

Black Screen WITH Mouse Cursor On Startup
I've just installed the beta, and everything worked fine.I'm after several reboots, and it was always OK, but for the last time it was stuck, so I've went into repair mode, and tried autorepair. It'd made corrections to the file system. OK, I've restarted, now the bootlogo showed up, then keyboard initializes, monitor blinks, changes resolution to my native (1280x1024), mouse cursor appear, and thats all. Blank (black) screen. Cannot logon.

It is not frozen, i can move mouse cursor, turn on and off numlock, even can hibernate (and resume) my system with keyboard smart key, but cannot logon. The last time before this happened I've set up MS Outlook 2007, I've enabled the Administrator account (for network using reasons), typed a new Administrator password, and restarted.

I wanted to run SFC (system file checker) to check if some files are damaged after the filesystem repairs (made by chkdsk), but i can't. In repair mode it says 'cannot run in repair mode', but the /runonce switch is not available, to run it on next boot.I've tried safemode, vga mode, every mode available in F8 menu. None helped.

Black Screen Instead Of Logon Screen
I use the bios selection to boot from either drive A or B.I use Windows dual-boot menu on drive B to select between Vista and 7RC.

The black screen problem was first observed with both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions of the Beta distributed at the Installation Festival. I had taken only one monitor to the festival and everything appeared to be working fine then. Once home, I noticed that I had no sound. I downloaded drivers for my SPXFI card and got sound but, got the black screen on reboot. I asumed that the SB driver was the cause. I had configured the Display on DVI 2 as my main display.

I then tried the 32-bit version with the same results. I had purchased a brand new 1TB drive for my Win 7 experimentation. I had disabled my main drive (A) throught the BIOS for installation. I hastily concluded that W7 was not quite ready for my system. I installed Vista Home Premium on my B drive using the same method and everything worked fine.

When RC was announced, I downloaded the 64-bit version, created a partition on my B drive and installed it there while my A drive was disabled from the BIOS. Installation went fine but I encountered the same black screen problem on the final reboot. However, I observed the odd disk activity and did not want to turn of the computer while this was going on. I tried Ctrl-Alt-Delete and other things and managed to get some voice from the computer.

I had activated the Access functionality from the invisible logon screen. I did another Ctrl+Alt+Delete, typed my password and followed by Enter. The monitor connected to DVI 1 immediately came on. I did not have a menu bar because I had specified the other monitor as my primary one. A right-click on the screen brought up the contextual menu, from which I selected Personalize > Display > Change display settings.

Clicking the "Detect" button turned on the second monitor. I plan on altering my connection so that my main display will be on DVI 1 instead of 2. In the mean time, I will blind-type my password and restore the settings.

Black Screen Of Death On Logon
you guys wouldn't know a fix for a Windows 7 RTM Ultimate every time they logon its a black screen but they can see the logon screen until it goes to the desktop. I'm pretty sure its the video card driver or the video card itself.

Computer Type: Desktop

Video Card Type: ATI Radeon 4870

Works in safe mode with internet

Alt Ctrl Del works but doesn't show taskmanager Cannot logout only shutdown.

Fresh install (today)

Tried reinstalling the vista driver and then the windows 7 driver.

I heard something about BIOS could be a factor but i don't think so.

Black Screen Before Logon / Cannot Boot
I've had this issue multiple times -- usually startup repair restores to an earlier point, but it appears that the system did not create a new restore point in between the past two times this occurred, so currently I can't boot to 7.After the "Starting Windows" screen with the glowing logo, I simply get a black screen with the mouse on it (which I can control). An interesting thing I noticed is that when it gets to the black screen, the backlight on my screen dims. I can't bring up task manager, anything. End up just having to hard restart the laptop.

Remote Desktop, After Logon, Black Screen
I am able to Remote Desktop fine from a laptop running Windows 7 into my desktop running Windows 7, the problem is that once I LOGOFF (or disconnect) and go to my desktop, all I see is a black screen with the mouse movement. CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing. I can go back to the laptop and RD into my desktop and it lets me login just fine.

But I have restart the system again by pressing the POWER BUTTON (soft, not hard 4 sec) and it goes to shut down, with nothing to show on the screen other than black and mouse cursor. anything I'm doing wrong?

Black Screen At Startup
I have encountered a problem that is starting to annoy me. The other day my laptop froze and I restarted. After the flash windows screen it goes black and I can see nothing, doesn't get to the users screen. I have had windows 7 on for 2 months and all has been perfect.

I have tried to install the Nvidia drivers again (re downloaded drivers 179.48 and 186.82 with mod .inf). Both said installed correctly but after the restart still got black screen. Currently I am in safe mode on video controller as the display card. I uninstalled the old drivers as well.

the 179.48 were on previously and I have had no problems until the other day. I am stuck for any other solutions on what to do. I have a dell m1710 with a 7950 gtx. Win 7 build is 7201 64bit. All help would be greatly appreciated as I am at a wits end...

Black Screen After Startup
Today I was playing a match of Counter Strike: Source on my Windows 7 32-bit pc. During the game my computer had frozen and I was required to reboot my pc, after the reboot had completed and the windows 7 loading screen finished what I was left to see was a black screen... stunned I restarted my pc again and again this black screen. The computer keeps giving me the option to "recover" the start up files but when I click on this option it says windows is loading the files but when that completes it just goes to the windows loading screen then black again.

I have tried putting my windows 7 disk into my drive and using it to restore my pc but it does the exact same thing, loads up and goes straight to the windows loading screen then to the back screen.... I have been trying for hours now to get this to work! What I have: Windows 7 32-bit install disk, Windows 7 32-bit system repair disk, Laptop with windows 7 32-bit and windows 7 32-bit installed and running. Anything you can say to help will be appreacheated.

P.S Sometimes there is a 2x2 pixel green box in the top left hand corner...

P.P.S If there is a solution that requires all files deleted then that option is fine by me.

Its midnight and I'm kinda tired, but after removing all usb devices startup repair has appeared and is trying to fix my errors.

Booting Into Black Screen Upon Startup
Every time I boot up Windows 7 RC (7100) from a fresh boot (no restarts or resets), I get the "Starting Windows" screen, then it skips past the "Welcome" screen into Windows itself - the problem is is that I see nothing but the wallpaper along with the "Windows 7 Evaluation Copy. Build 7100" in the corner, no icons, no taskbar - I can access the right click menu and the gadgets window, but that's it, anything else I do just opens a window that I cannot see nor select.

Also, if I try to bring up the ctrl-alt-del menu, I just get a black screen until I hit escape. The strange thing is is that if I do a hard reset at this point, then boot into Safe Mode, then restart from within Safe Mode, Windows boots up properly and normally. I've already tried reinstalling, but that didn't help at all.

Black Logon Screen On Hibernate Only, Resolved By Unplugging Monitor
After running Windows 7 RC since June I have encountered a problem over the last week which I am unable to resolve.  If I boot the machine from Hibernate mode the logon screen appears black.  The monitor is receiving signal, but it is not displaying anything. If I unplug the monitor from the back of the computer and plug it back in then Windows 7 makes its installing new hardware sound and the logon screen appears.

I do not experience this black screen when using Sleep mode or a standard Shutdown, only Hibernate.  I have only recently experienced this problem and can only assume it was caused by a recent Windows 7 update, as I have not installed any new hardware etc.

I am running an Intel Core 2 duo and Nvidia 8600GTS on a 17" Illyama LCD monitor.  It is a single monitor setup.  I have tried installing the latest Nvidia drivers and this has not affected the situation.  Does anyone have any idea what has broken hibernate mode on my PC?

Black Screen At Startup - Sleep Mode
I installed windows 7 a few days ago, everything seemed to run fine until this morning. Last night i updated windows because some updates where finished, during shutdown the update was installed. This morning i turn on my computer, it beeps once(loud beep not a soft beep) The screen doesnt flicker and goes into sleep mode.

I tried disconnecting the videocard and reconnecting the wires, still doesnt work. I pressed F2, F8, F12, doesnt go to BIOS screen or Boot. I have no idea how to get the connection back. Has anyone has this problem and can help me find a solution.

Upgrade: Black Screen On Startup - No Dual Monitor
I just upgraded to Win7 professional, everything installed correctly and I can work in it and everything is great, until I shutdown or restart. Once I attempt to turn the computer back on I get a black screen immediately, sounds like the hard drive and fans are running though. The only way I can get into Windows is to let the battery on the computer go dead, which takes awhile.

Then when I plug it in and turn the power on it boots up normally and goes into Windows and everything is great. I installed a hotfix 266368 I think, which looked like it dealt with my problem but no deal. Cntrl-alt-del doesn't do anything, neither does F8 or anything else. I've also installed all the updates. Anyone know what I can do to try to find the problem?

Screen Has Black Lines During Startup, Shutdown, And When UAC Pops Up
I am using Windows 7 ultimate 32-bit edition. I have a GeForce 6200 video card and have updated the drivers to the most recent one that says it is compatible with Windows 7.  Every time I startup or shutdown Windows, or when UAC pops up with a question, my screen gets all these black lines all over it and I can't see what I'm doing.  After I press yes or no on UAC and when I'm doing anything else all is fine.  Anyone got any ideas on how I can fix this?

Is there a working WDDM driver for this card?

Black Screen With Mouse Curser
I wanted to upgrade from Vista to 7, but I didn't want all of my programs to save. I bought an external HDD, and put all of my games and programs which I didn't want to get lost into the HDD. Then, I reinstalled Vista, so I had no data on my PC, but only on my external HDD.

After that, I installed Windows 7. Everything went well, until I had to boot my PC. It said it was loading windows (7), and than the screen turned black, and I haven't seen nothing exept of the mouse curser.

What could the problem be and how could I fix it?

I think the internet drivers are lost too. How can I reinstall them to have my web working?

Black Screen With Mouse Pointer
Recently my computer has not been loading windows 7 up intill the login screen. I get to see the little circle color things swirl around with the "Loading Windows" text, but were the login screen usually appears, I get a totally black screen with a movable mouse pointer. It is a brand new rig with 4g RAM (2g sticks) and I am running the 64 bit version but wounder if this is causing the problem.

Also when I try to do a system restore using the windows disc, I must first go into the settings (by pressing DEL on start up), then set my bay drive to boot first rather then my SATA to get the "Press any button to boot from disc... " prompt. Otherwise windows will ignore the disc. However when I load the disc and try to go into restore points, there are none to choose from.... I have no clue what to do and am willing to just install windows complelty again ext.

Black Screen With Mouse Cursor
Any one experienced a problem with Acronis 2010.

Didn't had time to look in to it, hope you guys can save me some time.

I used the Acronis 2010 System Cleanup for the first time. My windows 7 stopped responding, and I had to do hard reset.

After reset windows boots as far as black screen with mouse cursor.

I can move the mouse and Caps Lock respond, but that about it.

Same in safe mode.

Had no luck with Sys Restore, Boot recovery, Chkdsk didn't find any problems.

Ram Fine, swapped dims, memtest pass.

Didn't had time to do more.

UD5, I7 920, 12GB RAM, 260gtx
x2 750 in Raid 0

Black Screen At Boot With My Mouse Cursor
I have a problem when booting up Windows 7.

When I boot, I see the 4 particles, but after that, i get a black screen with my mouse cursor, but that's all.

If i wait for about 7 minutes, i get the login screen and everything works fine.

I haven't installed anything or done anything that could cause this.

Is this normal? I hope not because i hate waiting :P

I have read some other topics that seemed to be almost the same problem as mine. Some say you have to get a new videodriver. have done that, didn't

work. Restoring to a restore point didn't work either.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: Forgot to say, it is a dual boot (win xp/win 7) (maybe usefull information)

Black Screen With Mouse Cursor Error On Restarting
I installed CA Anti-virus plus on the new microsoft 7 OS and after restarting it would boot into windows and then just remain at a black screen with the mouse cursor positioned within the center of the screen. I was able to move the mouse cursor but the system continued to just hang on this black screen. I'm reinstalling microsoft 7 but is there anything I could do to solve this problem if it should happen again? I tried rebooting in safe mode and the same thing occurred.

Setup Install - Black Screen, Mouse Flashes Briefly
I'm doing a fresh install of Win7 RC1. I formatted ALL partitions on my harddrive, and created a single 80gb partition to install onto. Here's how my installs (tried a few times) progressed:
 - It goes through the normal format, file copy, and "expanding" of files. After the progress bar fills, it goes for the first reboot.

Screen Becomes Corrupted And Logon Screen Changed Color
This is so strange. My screen resolution is corrupted and my logon screen changed from Green to Blue.

Steps:
1) Using Office Word 2007, Outlook 2007, IE 8 Beta, and Live Messenger on Windows 7
2) Pressed Ctrl + Alt + Delete to lock my computer

Observation:
1) Screen is corrupted (resolution becomes 640 x 480 from 1280 x 800 and colors become 16 bits)
2) Logon screen is now Blue instead of Green

I was able to change the resolution of the screen. However, still don't know how to switch my logon back to Green color.

Post Is Fine Then Black Screen After Windows Start Screen
After a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit everything is great until I shut it down. When I turn it back on the boot is normal until just after the startup screen then the Monitor goes black and into sleep mode while the PC seems to continue on. It doesn't do it all of the time. I have loaded all the latest drivers for Win 7 for all the hardware I have.

I post mentioned the CRT Monitor had to be shut down for and hour then he could see the windows screen. He also said the LCD monitor was fine. So, is this the fix? a new Monitor? or is there some setting I can adjust to get past the black/sleep screen issue?

Video Games Black Screen That Crashes While In Full Screen
All the games I had when I used Windows Vista were playable. Now with Windows 7, whenever any of my games starts in full screen mode, my monitor turns black and does nothing else. The monitor still detects my computer because the monitor gave me no error of a missing input. I cannot alt+tab or Ctrl+Alt+Del or even WindowsLogo+Tab and I am forced to cut the power and restart.

After long tiring research giving me such suspects like DirectX 11, disabling Aero, to the all popular lacking computer requirements to play the game I could play before I installed Windows 7. My conclusion was I could play games as long as there are not in full screen mode or in other words Windowed Mode.

Why must I play all my games in Windowed Mode to play them on Windows 7? Is there a way to fix this problem?

I have already tried to play a few games in compatibility mode and it does not change anything.

Black Screen After Coming Out Of Screen Saver
I have a lenovo X61 which I removed all partions of and installed W7U x64. downloaded the lenovo update utility and the combination of lenovo auto download and windows update installed all necessary drivers. Machine was working beautifully for at least 4 weeks. Then once I was working without the power plugged with over 50% of charge left. Went away for a while came back and the machine was I assume in blank screen saver mode.

I moved the point tracker, typed some keys but the deep black screen would not go away. tried forcing to go into sleep by shutting the cover. that didn't work. Tried for force it into hibernation by pressing the power button once that didn't work. Hard reset it by pressing the power button until it went off.when rebooted it allowed me to login but Symantec NIS2010 gave me an error that it is was not activated although it was.

I restarted the machine and this time it will not boot. Tried safe mode. No luck.I had to reinstall everything again 4 days ago.Yesterday again, I got the black screen when my laptop went into blank screen saver mode with no power connected to it.Hard reset was the only solution. This time I started up in Safe Mode then restarted and it is working fine.

However, I do not want to risk going through the same issue again. We are configuring a volume mirror replication at work to recover faster if something happens again. But this is very troubling, time consuming and frustrating. any ideas what the issue might bet?
