Upgrade From Win XP / Vista To Win7: Product Key Language Version
We currently run 3 PCs at home (all 32 bit):
PC 1: German Windows Vista Home Premium
PC 2 & 3: English Windows XP Home
I'd like to purchase the Windows 7 family pack (English) to upgrade all of the PCs (clean install preferred).
Questions:
1. Can all 3 PCs be upgraded to the English version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with the family pack, despite the different language versions?
2. When performing a clean install, is it sufficient to enter the product key of the previously installed system when using the upgrade disk/key or is the old system required on the harddisk?
3. Just to confirm: The family pack comes with both, the 32 bit and 64 bit version for Windows 7 Home Premium?

Upgrade Path From Localized Version Of Vista To MSDNAA EN US Version Of Win7
I'm running an OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium, and since I'm a class B netizen I only had access to a localized version of my operative system. The MSDNAA graciously makes a copy of Windows 7 Professional English and a copy of Windows 7 Multilanguage Pack available to me. Howerer there is no localized version of the former and no WinVista equivalent of the latter. The Windows installer aborts pointing out the localization conflict and links me to this unhelpful page. My OEM seems to have disabled the option of using Windows Anytime Upgrade, so I will not pour money into this option just to get the option to relocalize my OS to English 'just in case'. Also, I would really rather not lose a week into driver scavenging, clicking through programs installers, staring at progress bars getting filled (multiple times). I'd really want to just upgrade. Is this a dead end? Do I have to cross my fingers and wait for Godot err a localized version of Win7 to appear on MSDNAA? Or is there a way around this?

Upgrade Vista To Win7 - Changing Language
I am living in Beijing, China at present and am about to buy a new Lenovo Ideapad Laptop. This comes with Windows Vista Home Premium Preinstalled (Chinese Version). I then intend to use the Free Windows 7 Upgrade Program to acquire Eglish language media It is clear in Microsoft's documentation that this is not a supported upgrade path. However, assuming I can get Lenovo to provide the English Language Windows 7 upgrade media, I should be able to do a clean install as per Doing a Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version and Paul Thurrot's Method. In fact this would be the method for achieving any unsupported upgrade path, eg: Vista 32 -> 7 64 Vista 64 -> 7 32 Chinese Vista -> English 7 Can anyone confirm that this is true, particularly for the language upgrade.

Product Key Error - Invalid Key For This Version Of Windows
Just successfully installed Win 7(RC) on a partition I created on a Vista(32-bit) Home Premium machine,so now I've set up a dual-boot. Anyways,as I am going to enter the product key that was given with my download it's giving me an "invalid key for this version of Windows" error. And along the process of identifying the cause,I realized I've installed a "Home Premium" version of the RC download;is this how it's supposed to be? This RC,a Home Premium version? Just want to verify because on the Computer's property page it's saying it's only a "30-day eval copy". How am I going to get another product key for this version of th RC?For what I've read through forums, this RC is supposed to be an Ultimate version? Anybody?

Deactivate Win 7 Upgrade Product Key

Activate Win 7 Upgrade Using XP Product Key
I am interested in Windows 7 and I am currently running the Windows 7 release candidate. I have in my possession a Windows XP Pro product key. It is not activated on my current computer, due to the fact that it's OEM, and previously activated on an older computer that got fried. If I were to purchace a Windows 7 upgrade package, would I be able to activate it using my XP product key? or would I have to purchase a 'full' version of Windows 7?

Student Version Product Key
This isn't something I'd do necessarily, but in theory would I be able to install Windows 7 Home Premium RTM (x86 or x64) and then use a legit product key from, for example the $30 student edition? I'd think it'd work, because the only thing different from the $30 edition and the full ~$200 edition is the price. It's the same OS otherwise. I ask also because what if I lose the ISO / burned disc of the digital download that's found here: http://www.win741.com/ ? The product key I'd be getting with the $30 Home Premium would be legit, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Are student edition product keys VLKs? I'm not proud of this nor am I condoning it, but when I needed a copy of XP Pro I obtained via torrent. It was Windows XP Professional Student Edition, and the key was a VLK. Is that the same with Windows 7 keys when sold as a student edition?

Vista's Version Of Movie Maker Is Deleted When You Upgrade To The Win 7 RC
I cannot find Vista's version of Windows Movie Maker now that I upgraded from Vista to the Windows 7 RC, so I assume it was deleted in the process even though it is compatible from what I understand. Windows Live Movie Maker Beta remained, but this is a very basic editor right now as it currently doesn't allow splicing, doesn't allow editing of audio tracks, and has very limited output choices (two).

Will Product Key For Win 7 64 Bit Business Upgrade Work With 32 Bit Install
I purchased several copies of Windows7 including the upgrade offer deal from Microsoft for Business. The upgrade CD came as a 64 bit which I will eventually install on my machine, but for the next several months I need to run 32 bit (legacy software which we are phasing out). Will the product key for the the 64 bit upgrade work with 32 bit install (I have a 32 bit Business which I have already installed on a different machine with its own product key).

Upgrade Vista Ultimate - Win 7 Ultimate: OS Language
I heard that an in-place upgrade to Windows 7 is only possible within the same language (e.g. EN-US). Now I worry that I'll buy the wrong Win 7 version.I know that my current Vista Ultimate is English, but how to find out which one (could be British as well)? Ist there a native OS language at all besides the language I set in the "regional and language options" in the control panel? And is this important at all? As far as I know Windows 7 Ultimate supports 35 languages, so does it matter at all as long as I accept to install Win 7 in the same language like my Vista is?Sorry, maybe I'm a bit confused *ggg*.

Student Upgrade - Product Key
My problem is that I have a desktop with Windows XP installed. For Christmas I decided to purchase the Windows 7 offer as a Student off Microsoft. My hard drive however, was rather small so it suggested upgrading hard drive and because I was upgrading from XP I had to do a clean installation. Because it said this I assumed I could just install it onto my new hard drive and type in the product key that I purchased! However, when I tried to enter my product key it stated that the key was only to be used for Upgrades and not clean installations..even though I would of had to do a clean installation on my old hard drive. I do not have an installation disk for my windwos XP so I am struggling to find a way to activate my Windows 7 on my PC! And its going to expire in 20days and I have Uni work to do and pending examinations! I am not able to purchase a new product key as it will cost too much, and seems as I have both an XP and Windows 7 liscnse I dont see why I should have to pay more.

Cheapest Full OS With Product Key To Upgrade
From what I've gathered here, I need to have an OS of some kind with a Product Key to replace with my new Windows 7 Upgrade disk--at least that's the safest thing to do. Since I'm starting with a barebones computer and have no computers running 2000, XP or Vista which have a product key, I need to get my hands on a legit OS for cheap. Where would be a good place to start looking? Would I be better off buying the complete OS instead of trying to make use of my $8.00 educational upgrade disk?

Upgrade Path Problem - Win 7 RC To Vista To Win7 Upgrade
I installed Win 7 RC on a new build and purchased Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM with upgrade to Win 7 Home premium. The Win 7 upgrade disc has arrived. I understand that Vista must be installed and activated for the upgrade to work. Attempts to install Vista with Win 7 RC running or booting from the Vista disc lead to error code 0x80070103, insufficient free space. My HDD has > 450 Gb free space in 2 partitions. Do I need to reformat the HDD in order to install Vista over Win 7?

Upgrade 7 Home Premium To Professional With Product Key Initially Purchased
We have a laptop that currently runs Vista Home Premium. We purchased Windows 7 Professional and proceeded with a clean install. After several hours of working with the drivers supplied by the laptop manufacturer (who shall remain nameless) the machine was having significant problems and lost functionality of several components. So here is the question now that I restored the laptop back to Vista: If I purchase Windows 7 Home Premium and perform an "upgrade" install (vice the clean install) thereby preserving the drivers and programs, can I then upgrade 7 Home Premium to Professional with the product key I initially purchased? From reading the Windows 7 site, I know I can upgrade Home Premium to Professional via the Anytime Upgrade function, but I was not able to find any information on performing the same upgrade using my previously purchased product key.

Can I Use OEM Win 7 HP Product Key To Install 64-bit OS Off Of Retail Disc ?
I purchased in June a new computer from Dell with a free upgrade to Windows 7. Â I wanted 64-bit but was not given the option. Â I received my 32-bit upgrade disc from Dell. My brother purchased a retail upgrade and so he has both 32-bit and 64-bit upgrade discs. Â I know that I must do a clean install. Â I want to know if I can use his 64-bit disc to run my install but then use my upgrade key from Dell. So in the end I have 64-bit OS using my product key that Dell gave me.

Upgrading W7 From Vista Upgrade Version
I currently have the full version of XP Pro 32. I completely skipped Vista. I'm now thinking of buying Vista Home Premium Upgrade version because of the offer to get a free upgrade to Win 7 when officially launched. So I have a few questions: Is XP Pro -> Vista Home Premium -> W7 Home Premium a valid upgrade path? I understand that the W7 DVD will have both 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Would I be right in thinking that I can install either, regardless of the fact that I started the upgrade path with a 32 bit XP? And that I can only install 32 bit OR 64 bit - I can't have both on different PCs. Since I'm upgrading an upgrade, will I need to do a minimal XP install, followed by a minimal Vista install, followed by a W7 install or can I just show W7 the earlier installer disc on a clean installation? Will my copy of W7 replace the Vista copy - in other words will I still have a single license, or can I install W7 on my main PC and have the Vista installation on the spare PC in the corner?

Perfectdisk Version 10 Stops Upgrade Of Vista 32
I went to upgrade my Dell XPS M1730 notebook from vista 32bit and when running the combatibility test it said that I needed to uninstall Norton 2009 and Perfect Disk 10 which I did. Restarted and tried the install again from within Vista and it still asked for Perfect disk to be uninstalled even thone driveugh it was not on the system any longer. I even went to regedit and made sure there were no registry items left behind and there were not. So a suggestion in the final code is somehow to make sure that when Perfect disk is installed and uninstalled as suggested the upgrade can go ahead. I did a clean install of the 64bit project deleting the previous windows without issue and all went well and all drivers except for the Nvida 9700 GT mobile series were installed which is nice. Great job. Fast and resonsive for the most.
