Upgrade Vista To Win7 - Changing Language
I am living in Beijing, China at present and am about to buy a new Lenovo Ideapad Laptop. This comes with Windows Vista Home Premium Preinstalled (Chinese Version). I then intend to use the Free Windows 7 Upgrade Program to acquire Eglish language media It is clear in Microsoft's documentation that this is not a supported upgrade path. However, assuming I can get Lenovo to provide the English Language Windows 7 upgrade media, I should be able to do a clean install as per Doing a Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version and Paul Thurrot's Method. In fact this would be the method for achieving any unsupported upgrade path, eg: Vista 32 -> 7 64 Vista 64 -> 7 32 Chinese Vista -> English 7 Can anyone confirm that this is true, particularly for the language upgrade.

Upgrade Vista Ultimate To Windows 7 - OS Language
My Notebook comes from the U.S. with Vista Ultimate. Now I want to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate here in Europe. I heard that an in-place upgrade to Windows 7 is only possible within the same language (e.g. EN-US). Now I worry that I'll buy the wrong Win 7 version. I know that my current Vista Ultimate is English, but how to find out which one (could be British as well)? Ist there a native OS language at all besides the language I set in the "regional and language options" in the control panel? And is this important at all? As far as I know Windows 7 Ultimate supports 35 languages, so does it matter at all as long as I accept to install Win 7 in the same language like my Vista is?

Upgrade From Win XP / Vista To Win7: Product Key Language Version
We currently run 3 PCs at home (all 32 bit): PC 1: German Windows Vista Home Premium PC 2 & 3: English Windows XP Home I'd like to purchase the Windows 7 family pack (English) to upgrade all of the PCs (clean install preferred). Questions: 1. Can all 3 PCs be upgraded to the English version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with the family pack, despite the different language versions? 2. When performing a clean install, is it sufficient to enter the product key of the previously installed system when using the upgrade disk/key or is the old system required on the harddisk? 3. Just to confirm: The family pack comes with both, the 32 bit and 64 bit version for Windows 7 Home Premium?

Language Packs For W7 - Import From VISTA
Anybody know if during the RC other language packs will be available. If not could I "Poodlefake" or Backport the language packs from the VISTA system. I'd like to try the Icelandic pack so some of our "Normal" i.e non technical users back home can check / try Windows 7. (Of course they all speak excellent English -- like most Scandanavian countries English is a mandatory language in Schools here and even as adults around 90% here speak it fluently but it would be nice to test Windows 7 in a "Working environment" away from the IT testing areas to see how it performs in day to day work. (Maybe not 100% mission critical stuff but for reasonably robust office situations).

Upgrade Xp In Other Language Than English
I am a XP user in Holland, so I used Dutch as a language for my computer. I know I could use the English, but so it is. I tried to upgrade my computer to Windows7, but it says that an other language is not possible. When I read the dixtionary files online then I red that it is still possible with some extra actions. Is this true or do I red it wrong?

Can't Do An Upgrade Install - Different Language
I'd like to do an upgrade install of Windows 7 Beta. Unfortunately, my current OS (Vista Ultimate 64) is in Italian, thus I cannot upgrade. I even tried to install the English language pack and I made sure to set the language in English. The problem is I cannot uninstall the Italian language as Windows tells me that it's the system language. Is there any way to make Windows think that English is the default language of my computer? I really don't want to make a clean install.

Digitalriver Student Promotion: Wrong Language Upgrade
I recently purchased Win7 x64 upgrade through the Canadian student promotion I got through e-mail. Download worked fine, everything worked fine until I started installing the upgrade... I got the promotional e-mail in English, my Vista version is French... Nothing in the e-mail and the purchasing process mentionned that there were multiple language versions... So now I can't upgrade since we can't upgrade fr-CA to en-CA... Anyway to get an fr-CA upgrade download in replacement? I sent 2 messages to digitalriver with my order number and never got any reply (that was a month ago). And a suggestion: the language issues should be clearly indicated on the website, I didn't even know I had an english-only version before I started installing it.

I understand that Vista must be installed and activated for the upgrade to work. Attempts to install Vista with Win 7 RC running or booting from the Vista disc lead to error code 0x80070103, insufficient free space. My HDD has > 450 Gb free space in 2 partitions. Do I need to reformat the HDD in order to install Vista over Win 7?

Will Be A Win 7 Upgrade DVD Be As Crippled As A Vista Upgrade DVD ?
As a Windows user of many years, I'm sure I wasn't the only one caught out by Windows Vista's novel upgrade DVDs which didn't allow a clean install of the OS. It astounded me at the time that Microsoft could contemplate rewarding loyal customers by selling an upgrade DVD that doubles reinstallation time of Windows in the event of any problems (I returned my DVDs as soon as I discovered the limitation and, somewhat annoyed, purchased full version DVDs... what business user has the time to waste installing an OS just to wipe it again?)Given that every other Microsoft upgrade product in history (including the recent ones - cf. Office 2007 Upgrade but right back to Windows 3.1 days) has been capable of asking for a previous product CD/DVD to prove upgrade eligibility, will Microsoft be punishing loyal users with this same irritating limitation on Windows 7 upgrade DVDs? Having built up an *old* laptop with Windows 7 RC and my full software profile, I shall be wanting to get Windows 7Â the day it comes out so would like to know the details of the upgrade DVDs in advance!

Upgrade From Vista And Drives
I'm running Vista Business (32 bit, with sp1) and I'm going to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional (32 bit, from msdnaa). I have two hard drives set up, C and D. I have D for all my data. Now, the option to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista says that I'll get to keep all my files, programs and settings. but what exactly does 'all' mean? Does it include those in both drives c and d? Will all my data in D stay there and be accessible after upgrading to Windows 7? Also, upon searching here in the forums, I've seen several cases where the upgrade is unsuccessful where it stops at a certain percentage, if this happens, will the operating system revert back to the previous one (in my case, vista) or will i have to install vista manually? and how do i make sure i have a problem free upgrade? Edit: can i actually do an upgrade? I mean, will the product key for the windows 7 professional work/register successfully after upgrading and not doing a clean install?

HP Laptop Upgrade From Vista
I am trying to install on an HP DV6-1063TX laptop computer. I have runs upgrade adviser it reports 1 issue although I am not sure what it is, In the System report I get two notices one about MS Mail & Web filtering and one suggesting a visit to HP website, everything else is green ticked so I don't think there are any serious problems here. In the Devices section there is a ? againnst the HP DVB-T/Analog TV-Tuner but again all else is green ticked. In the Software section I get a 'Yellow Triangle !' against Adobe Shockwave Player version 10.2.0.023, everything else has green ticks. The problem is that as far as I can see there should not be Adobe Shockwave version 10 as I have uninstalled not only this program but all the other Adobe software as well. I have tried updating to version 11.5, I have used Adobe's standalone uninstall tool for Shockwave but Windows 7 UGA insists it is still on the computer. I have run CCLeaner but all to no avail. Is this the problem? On the first attempt I had a problem with HPs Keyboard Filter which I understand is related to the HP Quick Launch Button software, I have uninstalled the software and have upgraded to the latest version. I have tried the installation 3 or 4 times now with the HP software upgraded or fully installed. Each time the installation goes through all the on-line checks, system checks, file expansion etc... only to find that it fails during the final stage. During the last attempt I had the upgraded Keyboard Filters installed and this again caused a problem so I am going to uninstall the upgraded software and try another install although I hold little hope for success. The fact that the Windows 7 UGA reports a phantom Adobe Installation leads me to think the problem may be there but I have no idea how to solve this as it is not on the machine. I would prefer to do the upgrade installation if possible as it will save many hours of software installation (after hours of time already wasted on Windows 7 installation), and I am worried that being a laptop Windows 7 may fail with some of the drivers it does not help that I cannot find this laptop on HPs website even though it was bought just over 12 months ago. I really want to get rid of this Vista installation and hope that someone here can be of assistance, in the meantime I will be trying one more attempt to upgrade after uninstalling the HP Quick Launch Bitton software.

Upgrade From Vista HP 64 To 7 Pro 64
I was to find that I couldn't do an in place upgrade from Vista Home Premium (64-bit) to 7 Professional (64-bit) after I'd already bought Professional. It seems that I can do an in place upgrade to either 7 HP or 7 Ultimate, but they skipped over Pro. Is there some workaround for this, or failing that some way to reliably back up my applications and data? I have already either upgraded the incompatible software, or uninstalled it, so I only have compatible software left on my Vista HP64 system.

Vista To 7 Upgrade Hangs At 62%
I've been having some difficulty getting the upgrade from Vista 64 to Windows 7 64 to happen. Twice I tried it and it hung at 40%, but then I uninstalled iTunes and updated my RAID drivers and it progressed further. Now it's hanging at 62%. I've seen the article about 62% here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/975253, but my log files don't contain that information. The logs contain a lot of information about not being able to get attributes for this or that directory, but it seems to get past those so it doesn't seem like that's the problem. A zip of setupact.log and setuperr.log is here: http://tinyurl.com/yh8348h When it was still getting stuck at 40%, I ran the setup advisor and it told me that iTunes should be uninstalled, and that there was an upgrade available to Steam. I uninstalled iTunes, but I seem to have the most recent Steam client available.

Vista 64 Upgrade To W7 Failure
I decided to upgrade my existing 64 bit Vista installation to W7 instead of a clean install.Installation proceeded smoothly (if about 2.5 hours long!) until the last step which appeared to complete but left me with a blank screen, no reboot, no message. After waiting around 30 minutes, with no disk activity, I decided to reboot. After the "welcome" screen, I had a blank screen with the "evaluation copy" message on the bottom right hand corner of the screen and nothing I could do would give me a desktop display. Cntrl alt delete worked to enter the Task Manager but canceling brought me back to a blank screen (even the "evaluation copy" mesage disappeared.Safe mode did load and displayed correctly.Does anyone have any ideas as to the "disappearing" desktop? I would be willing to try again if I had some answers (I have reverted to Vista 64 via a backup). How Many Partitions With Vista To 7 Upgrade ?
I have a question about my 7 upgrade disk, which I will receive in Oct. While upgrading, one question that I will be asked is about the number of partitions or drives that I desire. My choices will show C, D (restoration drive) and E and F (DVD drives). I do not care to multi-boot etc. How do I answer the question? Do I just hit next on the screen, or do I delete D, E and F and then hit next? I of course, after (clean upgrade) I want a restoration drive and DVD drives, just like, I have now on Vista Home Premium. If I delete all but C, will the OS, replace the restoration and DVD drives? How many GB, do I need on C, devoted to 7?

Vista To 7 Upgrade Questions
I am on Vista Home Premium at present. I bought the upgrade to Windows 7. I have two questions: 1) Is it true that when you upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, all of your installed programs basically remain intact and working, or do you have to re-install everything again from scratch? I believe that the documentation in the box said that if you are on XP, you would have to reinstall MS Office and some other programs. What is the situation in upgrading from Vista? 2) Partly in order to find out the answer to the above, I decided to upgrade my laptop first because it has relatively few installed programs on it compared to my PC. I tried on three separate occasions to do the upgrade. On each occasion, it went all the way through to the very end, completing all of the listed steps. However, it then stated that Windows 7 could NOT be installed on this computer and then unwound the entire thing, leaving me with Vista again. Why, is a mystery to me because when I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it did not highlight any problems that would prevent the installation. Yes, it did point out one printer driver which might not work after the upgrade and advised me to uninstall it (which I did NOT do - might that be the problem?), but apart from that it seemed to be happy with the situation. 3) Do I really need a skilled technician to do this upgrade or can I not just do it all myself? If some major backup and re-installation of complex drivers is necessary, then maybe I need one. But is this really going to happen, or is the whole thing as self-explanatory as it seemed while doing it on my laptop?
