Upgrade From Win XP / Vista To Win7: Product Key Language Version
We currently run 3 PCs at home (all 32 bit): PC 1: German Windows Vista Home Premium PC 2 & 3: English Windows XP Home I'd like to purchase the Windows 7 family pack (English) to upgrade all of the PCs (clean install preferred). Questions: 1. Can all 3 PCs be upgraded to the English version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with the family pack, despite the different language versions? 2. When performing a clean install, is it sufficient to enter the product key of the previously installed system when using the upgrade disk/key or is the old system required on the harddisk? 3. Just to confirm: The family pack comes with both, the 32 bit and 64 bit version for Windows 7 Home Premium?

Upgrade Path From Localized Version Of Vista To MSDNAA EN US Version Of Win7
I'm running an OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium, and since I'm a class B netizen I only had access to a localized version of my operative system. The MSDNAA graciously makes a copy of Windows 7 Professional English and a copy of Windows 7 Multilanguage Pack available to me. Howerer there is no localized version of the former and no WinVista equivalent of the latter. The Windows installer aborts pointing out the localization conflict and links me to this unhelpful page. My OEM seems to have disabled the option of using Windows Anytime Upgrade, so I will not pour money into this option just to get the option to relocalize my OS to English 'just in case'. Also, I would really rather not lose a week into driver scavenging, clicking through programs installers, staring at progress bars getting filled (multiple times). I'd really want to just upgrade. Is this a dead end? Do I have to cross my fingers and wait for Godot err a localized version of Win7 to appear on MSDNAA? Or is there a way around this?

Radeon 3850 AGP Version - Driver Fails
Having spent hours trying everything from the Vista drivers that came with the card, to latest ATI Catalyst drivers, to those for similar cards from other manufacturers (mine is from HIS), the adaptor is still shown as "not working properly" in the device manager and reverts to the standard VGA driver. Interestingly, the Catalyst app is also bringing up an error stating that the ATI driver is not installed. Has anyone else come across this and have a solution?

Upgrade Xp In Other Language Than English
I am a XP user in Holland, so I used Dutch as a language for my computer. I know I could use the English, but so it is. I tried to upgrade my computer to Windows7, but it says that an other language is not possible. When I read the dixtionary files online then I red that it is still possible with some extra actions. Is this true or do I red it wrong?

Can't Do An Upgrade Install - Different Language
I'd like to do an upgrade install of Windows 7 Beta. Unfortunately, my current OS (Vista Ultimate 64) is in Italian, thus I cannot upgrade. I even tried to install the English language pack and I made sure to set the language in English. The problem is I cannot uninstall the Italian language as Windows tells me that it's the system language. Is there any way to make Windows think that English is the default language of my computer? I really don't want to make a clean install.

Upgrade Vista To Win7 - Changing Language
I am living in Beijing, China at present and am about to buy a new Lenovo Ideapad Laptop. This comes with Windows Vista Home Premium Preinstalled (Chinese Version). I then intend to use the Free Windows 7 Upgrade Program to acquire Eglish language media It is clear in Microsoft's documentation that this is not a supported upgrade path. However, assuming I can get Lenovo to provide the English Language Windows 7 upgrade media, I should be able to do a clean install as per Doing a Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version and Paul Thurrot's Method. In fact this would be the method for achieving any unsupported upgrade path, eg: Vista 32 -> 7 64 Vista 64 -> 7 32 Chinese Vista -> English 7 Can anyone confirm that this is true, particularly for the language upgrade.

Upgrade Vista Ultimate To Windows 7 - OS Language
My Notebook comes from the U.S. with Vista Ultimate. Now I want to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate here in Europe. I heard that an in-place upgrade to Windows 7 is only possible within the same language (e.g. EN-US). Now I worry that I'll buy the wrong Win 7 version. I know that my current Vista Ultimate is English, but how to find out which one (could be British as well)? Ist there a native OS language at all besides the language I set in the "regional and language options" in the control panel? And is this important at all? As far as I know Windows 7 Ultimate supports 35 languages, so does it matter at all as long as I accept to install Win 7 in the same language like my Vista is?

Digitalriver Student Promotion: Wrong Language Upgrade
I recently purchased Win7 x64 upgrade through the Canadian student promotion I got through e-mail. Download worked fine, everything worked fine until I started installing the upgrade... I got the promotional e-mail in English, my Vista version is French... Nothing in the e-mail and the purchasing process mentionned that there were multiple language versions... So now I can't upgrade since we can't upgrade fr-CA to en-CA... Anyway to get an fr-CA upgrade download in replacement? I sent 2 messages to digitalriver with my order number and never got any reply (that was a month ago). And a suggestion: the language issues should be clearly indicated on the website, I didn't even know I had an english-only version before I started installing it.

Upgrade Fails At 66%
I want to test out W7 so badly but I can't get the install to get past 66% in it's final phase. I am upgrading from Vista Ultimate 64bit and I do have a 9800GTX - Once it hits 66% an error box pops up and my Vista gets rolled back. So the good news is the rollback feature is working like I charm! I've done 8 failed installs over the last few weeks and it rolls back perfectly. Things I Have Done: 1: Searched every service of the Internet for a solution. Haven't found a solid one yet. 2: Downloaded and burned (at the slowest speed) a freshly downloaded RC to see if maybe the first one I got was bad. 3: Took out my 9800GTX, uninstalled the drivers, used on-board video to try and finish the install. 4: Tried the new beta drivers from NViDIA currently on their site. Every single attempt the Upgrade fails in the exact same way. Now I have seen alot of suggestions of work around. Well not a lot actually, or else I wouldn't be posting here. Most of them were some crazy things that I had no clue what they were talking about. So I am coming to you genious computer gurus over here at the MS TechNet forums for hopefully a solution - From what I read there are an over-abundance of people that are having this issue and therefore cannot experience W7. In plain English (read: I'm not a computer guru by any means, so I can't translate some of the more advanced computer lingo) is there a way to finally install W7 on my machine?

Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade Fails
As a retail IT professional, I recieved my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate today. I tried twice to install to no avail.  The first time it hung it hung right after the reboot, at 21% expanding files. The second time it went a little farther. Both times (I think, for sure it was the second time)  the message was that it could not write to the registry.  The install cancels and reverts the system back to Vista. Facts:Compatibility Check Checked OK Current OP System - Windows Vista Ultimate Hardware HP Pavilion dv9000 Processor, AMD Atholon(tm) 64x2 Dual-Core Processor TK-57(Not many programs on a fairly clean install of Vista) IE, MS Office, Photoshop and a few chat programs Signed on as Administrator when starting the install Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Full Or Upgrade Version ?
I am Currently running Windows XP Pro. I know I qualify to buy the Windows7 upgrade editions. I plan to install it on a new hard drive but the old hard drive will be there for upgrade verification. What happens if I later decide to wipe out my Windows 7 installation and do a fresh install? Or if my hard drive craps out and I need to do a fresh install? At that time I will not have an activated Windows XP os. Would I be better off with a full version of Windows 7?

Upgrade Or Full Version
The cost of the full version of Ultimate makes me want to throw up but I may not have a choice. I'm running Win 7 Ultimate RC. I do have Windows Vista Home Premium but haven't installed it since the first Win 7 beta came out. I do a lot of experimenting and frequently have to reinstall the OS. It's fun. I like to do it. My question is if I bought the upgrade would I have to install Vista first everytime and then use the upgrade? Since I do frequent fresh installs I'm betting that the full version is the way for me to go.

Upgrade From Vista Home Premium Fails
I purchased a student edition of Windows 7 and downloaded it from the Microsoft website. I attempted to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 last night, but received an error message just after the first time my computer rebooted during the installation (during the third phase, called 'Expanding Windows files' at approximately 21%). I checked the error log and found that the setup had failed to find a file. I attempted the installation this morning and it failed again at the same place, though this time the error log is empty. The compatibility advisor finds no problems with my computer upgrading to Windows 7. I'd appreciate any help you could give me. Edit: attempted installation a third time; it gave me the same error as last time. The error log says: 2009-11-11 13:43:14, Error     [0x06413c] IBSLIB FindVolume: Unable to find volume marked as [$Setup_InstallVolume$][gle=0x00000002] 2009-11-11 13:43:14, Error     [0x064225] IBSLIB FindVolume: Failed while looking for [$Setup_InstallVolume$]; hr = 0x80070490.[gle=0x00000002]

Upgrade Fails At Expanding Files Point
Just as in previous post on this problem, system then fails to restart "Windows 7 Setup", with error: ".....winload.exe" missing or corrupted. The file is in the expected location in the temp W7 file setup location. I followed the instructions to reboot to DVD, chose "Repair" on the "Setup" OS choice, it reports unable to repair. Have done all other expected things: complete chkdsk, no av running, etc, and have tried four times now with exactly same results. Obviously, there is some issue. Using Vista Ultimate (6002 SP2). Have updated BIOS, Motherboard drivers, Intel chipset drivers, the whole kit and kaboodle, and it is still no go.

Clean Install Using Upgrade Version
Having followed the numerous threads carefully, confusion occurs with CLEAN install. There is a subtle, but important difference between a CLEAN install that is done as part of an upgrade to XP and one that is RETAIL clean  install. An UPGRADE, run from within XP (whether that is OEM or Full retail) has to be checked that it is validated XP before the Win 7 installation will run. The Win 7 will then install by reformatting the disc/partition containing XP, ie.. it's a CLEAN install onto a re-formatted drive/partition. If you purchase a RETAIL version of Win 7, then that will do a CLEAN install by BOOTING from the CD/DVD, it will install on a PC that doesn't have ANY previous OS, so it clearly can't be run from within one. That's also a CLEAN install, but the 2 are very different.I was searching this issue because at our Computer Club we have 16 machines with all sorts of variations in OS's. We want to create Dual Boot with existing retail XP one one partition and retail Win 7 on another. My understanding is that procedure is perfectly possible.
