Upgrade Option - Upgrade The Vista Or Clean Installation
If I sell a computer with Vista (OEM) with a Windows 7 Upgrade Option, will the customer be able to really upgrade the vista installation or do they have to do a clean installation of Windows 7?

Can Only Upgrade - No Clean Install Option
I have completely removed my mbr, wrote 0/1's to the entire harddrive, removed every partition.... blah.Everytime I start setup I only get the Upgrade/Advanced Option.Anyone else getting this? I'm using 'en_windows_7_ultimate_dvd_x15_65922'. I've tried burning it 3x. My RC disk gives me both options.I'm redownloading the iso, to see if that's it. I deleted the partitions using a linux bootcd, as windows repair > cmd > diskpart refused to remove the drive it created. Thanks!Hardware: Asus p5k, p4 3.8, 2x500gb sata wd hd's, 4gb ddr2. pci-e 9800gt. Using dvd on sep sata channel.Beta, RC, now RTM. Same machine.Oh and it would be awesome if there was a BACK button in the setup options =)

Upgrade To Win7 From Computer With Vista / XP Option
i bought a new computer (dell optiplex 330) in dec, 2008, with a configuration called "vista premium downgrade relationship." basically, what this means is that the computer came with XP/SP3 installed but that i have a separate disk that will install vista instead if i decide i want to (i can't remember if it uninstalls the XP or exactly what happens with the XP if i do switch to vista). what i haven't been able to figure out from the articles that i have read is whether, with programs that will be available either now or when win7 is formally released, i can upgrade to win7 -- (1) directly from my currently-installed XP, or (2) by switching from XP to vista by means of the vista installation disk that i have, and then upgrading to win7 from there, or (3) either one, and if so which route is the least hassle and the least likely to bollix up my computer. or maybe i should start from scratch -- scrap both XP and vista from this computer, and just install a clean win7? does anyone know about this issue?

Upgrade Or Clean Installation ?
Do you guys still do clean installs for each build leak? I'm sure MS has made upgrade installation much more stable than what it was previously known for. Just that I'm kind of tired of doing clean installations all the time and don't feel like doing a clean installation for 7137

Will Win 7 Professional Upgrade Allow A Wipe / Clean Installation ?
I'd like to know whether Windows 7 Professional UPGRADE will allow a user to upgrade an existing system by installing clean on a fresh drive attached to a system with an upgrade-qualified previous OS such as Vista Ultimate Edition. For our environment, it's important to preserve the ability to revert to the previous system for a while until confidence in the released Win 7 product is established. So the preferred upgrade path would be, install clean and migrate user state.

Student Upgrade From Vista Ultimate 64 Bit Without A Clean Install
I purchased the academic version of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit under an apparent misunderstanding that I could upgrade and not have to do a complete reinstall which would cost me 3 days of thesis development time to reinstall the Autodesk, Adobe & other software that I use. Could someone please explain to me why (after paying a higher price for Vista Ultimate in the first place) I cannot purchase a student version of Windows 7 Ultimate or upgrade without a clean install which requires a complete reinstall of all of the programs on my computer? Is there something that I am overlooking?

Upgrade XP To Pro Using Same Vista Installation
I was running Vista HP and planned to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro before I realized it would require reinstalling programs. So I called Microsoft and cancelled the Windows 7 Pro order and purchased Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade locally. But I'm having problems running all Call of Duty games with hard crashes. Meanwhile, Windows 7 Pro Upgrade arrived in the mail despite my having cancelled it and I found that indeed, Microsoft billed my credit card. Now, I've a mind to install Windows 7 Pro on my desktop and just do the resinstalls, and then use the copy of Home Premium Upgrade on my laptop. I'm sure I'll have no problem running COD in virtual XP mode on Windows 7 Pro. So, a couple questions: - To install Windows 7 Pro, I assume I have to first install my earlier version of Vista? Can I do that if it's already "linked - if that's the correct word" with the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade I've had in place for a couple of weeks and is registered? - Can I then install the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade on my Vista HP laptop, despite that it has already been registered on the desktop? Or do I need to call Microsoft?

Upgrade Media - Clean Install From Installed Win 7 Upgrade ?
I did an in place upgrade of Windows 7 home premium and I am thinking about trying to do a clean install since the start up time after the upgrade is brutal (about 10 minutes). My question: I know you can do a clean install using a custom install but do I have to re-install vista first or can I just boot up to my working Win 7 install, put the disk in and do a custom install?

Upgrade Option Question
So, I've got a question or two. I have a laptop that came with Windows Vista Home Premium, with the free Windows 7 upgrade. However, I noticed that Vista Home Premium upgrades to Windows 7 Home Premium, but I want Windows 7 Professional. Also, I have only the 32-bit (it looks like they crippled my OEM disc, as it doesn't even give me a 64-bit option)... so would the upgrade disc have 32-bit only? How would you guys suggest going about getting Windows 7 Professional? Should I use Anytime Upgrade to get myself Vista Ultimate so it upgrades to 7 Ultimate? Or should I just get the upgrade as-is and hope IT has some sort of upgrade option? Additionally, do you know if I could get a pro-rated upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional? And, does anybody know if the upgrade disc I'll get will have the 64-bit? Or would I get a crippled 32-bit only version? Since I have 4GB of RAM in this laptop, I really want the 64-bit version of Windows 7. Or do you guys just think I should sign up for the MSDNAA site for the $19 student fee (I'll be a student at the University of Michigan in about two weeks) and get Professional that way? I guess I'd just not rather waste the upgrade option I have, it's the whole reason I paid for Vista on my laptop and not just XP.

Windows 7 Upgrade Option
I've been hearing about something called "Windows 7 Upgrade Option", but I wasn't sure if it was true. What I heard was that this "Windows 7 Upgrade Option" was a free upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 when it came out, but you could only get it if you had Vista before a cetain date. I wasn't sure if this was true or not. Could someone verify it for me?

Win7 To Win 7 In-place Upgrade Is Not Option ?
I have a IBM Lenovo laptop which has a 7b boot device blue-screen error now in Windows 7 RTM. I am unable to repair this using windows repair. I tried to do a boot from DVD in-place upgrade but this appears to not be an option for my configuration. It keeps telling me that I must reboot with the existing Windows 7 install and run setup from inside of Windows 7. Unfortunately due to the blue screen error I m unable to boot into the OS and launch the setup and run an in-place upgrade. I tried to do that already which got me into this mess and the infinite loop associated with repairing windows on every re-boot. Is there anyway to run setup with some type of command that forces the upgrade to occur?

Upgrade Path Problem - Win 7 RC To Vista To Win7 Upgrade
I installed Win 7 RC on a new build and purchased Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM with upgrade to Win 7 Home premium. The Win 7 upgrade disc has arrived. I understand that Vista must be installed and activated for the upgrade to work. Attempts to install Vista with Win 7 RC running or booting from the Vista disc lead to error code 0x80070103, insufficient free space. My HDD has > 450 Gb free space in 2 partitions. Do I need to reformat the HDD in order to install Vista over Win 7?

Upgrade Allows Clean Install ?
Can you fresh install with an Upgrade version of Windows 7? I want to save some money by buying the Upgrade. However, if I have to install my old OS first then upgrade, that isn't really a clean install. I'm wondering if you simply have to prove you have an older Windows version so that you can upgrade, or if it literally has to be on the PC for it to work. Second, does anyone know if the Upgrade trick works with Win 7? As in, you install the Upgrade without entering a key, then "upgrade" your upgrade?

Upgrade Vs Clean Install
What is the difference between Upgrade vs Clean Install ? Which one will be the best option ? The screen of my Toshiba laptop turns black every 1-2 minutes, and it stays like this for almost 30 seconds. Sometimes, it turns pure white screen and then I've to restart the system. Does anyone know why is it going this ?? Is there any solution for that ?
