USB Driver Can Not Be Installed

I am running a Windows 7 RC 64 bit system. I would like to run Bang & Olufsen (B&O) BeoPort with a B&O PCLink 2 on this machine. B&O does not provide an 64 bit USB driver. They provide only 32 bit version fro XP and Vista. My idea was, I run Virtual XP and run the BeoPort on this virtual system.

Installing BeoPort software works until the USB drivers for the PCLink 2 should be installed. There it stops and nothing else happens. Why does the same problem occur under virtual XP as it would be if I want to install the BeoPort on the 64 System? What can I do to get the BeoPort software and the PCLink System run.

Usb Virtualization Connector Driver Not Installed With Xp Mode
I have installed XP mode and it's working but without usb support. In device manager on the host, there is no "USB Virtualization" node. How is this device installed? Where is the technical documentation for it? Where do you get the driver? If xp mode is already installed, how do you repair it or force the installation of this device?

Can Win 7 Be Installed TO A USB Hard Drive ?
1. I have read through many threads here and have not truly found anything useful. The closest things I have found were installing to an internal disk as a VHD, and then migrating to a USB HDD and modifing some settings; or connecting the HDD via eSATA.DO YOU NOT THINK THAT PEOPLE MIGHT WANT TO INSTALL TO USB BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO THE OBVIOUS!!

2. I have a netbook (Dell Mini9). I don't have eSATA, nor am I willing to spend the money on a large enough half mini-PCIe SSD to install via VHD. If my internal HDD was large enough to install one OS, then the VHD, I would either dual boot, or just install the OS on the internal drive.

3. The problem with the half mini-PCIe SSDs is that the Sequential Read/Write Access 40MB/sec / 15MB/sec respectively. With a 7200rpm USB drive, I should get about the same performance, slightly less on the read, but slightly better on the write, and balancing out the read/write times would make lag less noticeable.

4. If you answer the question with "it should theoretically install" or "it depends on your BIOS settings" or "just take out your internal hard drive" then you need to stop posting. If you have not tried to perform this task, then you probably don't have much of an informed opinion of this. We aren't looking for it should, we are looking HOW.

Please understand what the question is before posting. The question is "Can Windows 7 be installed TO a USB Hard Drive? If so, how?" There are plenty of posts on installing FROM a USB drive.

Driver Could Not Be Installed
As you know there are 5 steps to installing W7 RC.

During step 3 (Expanding windows files) it had completed 471 of 2200 files. At step 472, I saw a message that the computer needed to be restarted. The process tried 3 times to complete this procedure and failed to shut down and restart as required.

After approx 1 - 2 minutes, I received a message stating "windows installation could not continue because a required driver could not be installed."

I tried to install W7 4 times, and it failed all 4 times at step # 472 of 2200

Getting Host OS To See Driver Installed In XP Mode
If I have a piece of hardware that doesn't have and will never have Vista/Win7 compatible drivers, can I install it in the VM and have an application in the host use it?  Our company uses a fax driver that has no Vista or 64-bit support.

I can install it in XPMode and it works there, but an instance of Word opened from the host doesn't have that driver available to it.  Only an instance opened from within XPMode can use it.  Is there a tweak or settings change to have host applications use drivers that only exist in the virtual machine?

Unable To Keep Installed 8800 GTX Driver
I installed Windows 7 64 Bit 6 days ago and Im still trying to find a solution to my nvidia drivers. I have a dell xps 1730 with nvidia's 8800 GTX SLI. I have been reading several forums and posts and Ive done just about everything theyve said to do and still no luck.

Here's the scoop, so I have downloaded 186.03_notebook_win7_64bit_international_whql from the nvidia site and 18172_win7x64 from nvision along with the modded inf file. Have installed both as described on both sites.

Ok, this portion happens with the nvidia site driver. It installs just fine the restart where the issues begin. Once it reboots and begins to load Windows 7 it freezes up the goes back to the bios and on to where it asks to do the starup repair thing or start window normal. So Ill hit start normal, same thing will happen. I choose to fix then I proceed to install all over again. Again, reboot same thing, I choose star normal and this time it goes to the screen where you see the cursor and it says welcome then suddenly crashes.

Now for the nvision site driver. Install is same both ways. Restart, goes thru bios now on this driver it hits the Windows 7 and immediately gives BSOD. So I reboot, again same thing. Once more only this time it goes thru and Im able to get into Windows 7 like nothing. Ok great, well not really. No nvidia panel, so I adjust the resolution go into driver manager to check the status and it says that it not working because it needs a restart, ok so I restart. Again BSOD over and over.

After every attempt I have to fall back to a previous restore point and still have had no luck.

Am I getting the wrong drivers? Is there something Im missing? Could it be just a Windows 7 issue?

Update Installed An Older Driver To My System
Windows 7 64 bit RC

I checked for updates and there was an updated driver for my onboard NIC. I installed it and lost internet connection, even after reboot. Rolled back the driver and all is okay again.

Device is Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)

Working Driver is Microsoft- Date 2/26/2008 Ver. 7.2.1127.2008

Update Driver that doesn't work is - Driver Provider Realtek Date: 1/15/2007 Ver. 6.190.115.2007, Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows ...

So, why would Windows Update try to install an older driver on my system?

I Want Auto Trim But Installed Matrix Storage Driver!
I installed yesterday my new Windows 7 32bits i put it on my new Intel 160gb gen 2 with 02HD firmware and started installing drivers.

I installed Intel SSD Toolbox - v1.2 just for curiosity because i know i didn´t need it for trim, i read agood part of the manual (requirements and similar stuff) and i thought i was ready to install the Intel SSD Toolbox - v1.2. AFTER other stuff i decided to see a little more of the toolbox manual and I FOUND IN PAG 13!!!!!!! THAT ONE SHOULDN´T INSTALL matrix storage driver BECAUSE THEN ONE REALLY NEED TO USE THE TOOLBOX for trim!!!!!!!! IT SAYS THIS IN THE Schedule SECTION!!! (INSTED IN THE BEGIN WITH EG THE TITULE I M P O R T A N T):

6. If your PC uses Microsoft Windows 7 and the Intel Matrix Storage Manager version 8.x (which can be used in place of the Microsoft AHCI driver), then the Intel SSD Optimizer tool is required to enable the ATA Data Set Management Command (Trim).

NOW I LOST LOTS OFF HOURS AROUND THESE, INSTED OF EXPLORING MY NEW OS AND SSD ONLY TO FIND THAT althoug i uninstaled this matrix thing I NEED TO REINSTALL THE OS BECAUSE matrix storage driver MANUAL SAYS THAT TO REMOVE THE DRIVER ONE NEEDS TO REINSTALL THE OS!!!!!!!!!

Does someone knows a workround this ANNOYNCE? i have already lots of stuff installed and configurated

i don´t use raid but i want AHCI (I HAVE IT ENABLED IN THE SATA CONFIG IN THE BIOS before the OS install) I cant see Intel(R) SATA AHCI Controller in the 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' entry in device manager but i see this:

Wonder why it took so long to decide it doesn't like my network adapter?

I tried to donload the catalyst driver centre for vista 32bit for my card and run the installer package in compatibility mode and as administrator. Installation process ends and looks as if the control centre was installed correctly but it did not. When I go to Ati folder on computer it is empty.

USB Driver Error - USB Ports Do Not Work
I'm not sure if any other specs needed to solve this problem.

I upgraded from vista 32bit to windows seven 32bit a few days ago, ever sense i have upgraded i have never been able to use any usb ports. i have went into the device manager and uninstalled and reinstalled the usb port drivers, they will start to work for about 30 seconds then will fail.

This is the error in the properties under usb port:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I have installed my motherboards new drivers and bios for windows 7. also have updated windows and installed all major updates. I have been working on fixing this error for days now and i have had no success.

Get Stuck At The "select The Driver To Be Installed" Screen
I've been using build 7100 for awhile now and its been great until it started blue screening. So since the RC was close to release I figured I would stick with my XP partition till the RC came out (bleck).

I have just downloaded the RC today and I'm having trouble getting it installed!

I get stuck at the "select the driver to be installed" screen.

First I get this: "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

Second I get this (after scanning for drivers): "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media conains the correct drivers, and then click OK."

USB Driver Explosion
I am running Windows 7 x64 build 7600 on a Compaq laptop. I am having a specific problem with external devices. When I go to burn a DVD, whether the data rests on an external device or elsewhere, I start getting very high DPCs (split between interrupts and DPCs 50/50 CPU usage). It basically causes the computer to become completely non-responsive and I have to hard reboot.

I do not get this kind of error under any circumstances besides burning or R/W to USB devices.

I have tried running stack traces but its a little difficult when the CPU is maxed out. I ONLY get this particular crippling effect when burning or occassionally when I access external USB devices.

This only happens in Windows 7!!

Is it possible to use the USB driver from Server 2008? Has anyone with a fix? Could I switch files from another OS?

No Driver For USB-UIRT
Not sure if this is a real problem or not, but Windows 7 installed all my other hardware devices so smoothly that this stood out.  My USB-UIRT is basically a IR transmitter/receiver that can be used to control IR devices (TVs, DVD, cable box...).  Windows 7 was unable to find a driver for it, but I used the old driver that I had for XP and it worked perfectly.

USB Virtualization Driver
While trying to get an external HD (SATA-to-USB) to be recognized again after it disappeared, I read a suggestion to uninstall the USB drivers. After a reboot they were to reinstall automatically. Well, I also uninstalled the USB Virtualization driver (since it said USB...) and it did not reinstall.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the XP Compatibility Mode, and tried to do the same with Virtual Machine, but it's an update and not a program. I read on a thread here that I can remove it and reapply it. Would that solve my problem?

(I'm trying to use a USB scanner and when I try to attach the USB with the tab in XP Mode I get an error that the USB Virtualization Driver is missing.)

The problem is that the manufacturer (Premier) doesn't even have a website, because it's probably some cheap sub-brand or something. Eitherway, I can't find suitable drivers! Is there a multi-device driver for usb handsets or something, or should i throw the thing in the trash and get a newer one (which ofcourse I don't want to do)?
