Trouble Getting A USB IRDA Reader To Wok On Win 7
I have loaded windows 7 on a virtual machine (using VMware Fusion) on my Mac. One of the main reasons for doing this is to be able to use a PC based program that uploads data from my Polar sports watch. The up load can only be done via infrared. In the past I had no difficulty doing this on my PC with XP OS.

Polar IrDA 2.0 USB Adaptor Drivers
After having to do an clean install of Windows 7 to get my graphics adaptor working properly the only outstanding hardware issue left is the Polar IrDA 2.0 USB adaptor. When I plug this in it doesn't plug and play and remains as an unknown device. I've had a look at other posts on this subject but can't quite seem to get any to work - can anyone give me a hand with this please? I managed to manually install unknown device (actually a Sigmatel STIr42xx) and it now recognises it as a IR adaptor, but the vista driver is not working...

USB Trouble
I have been using Windows 7 with no issues since July. However, a couple of days ago a couple of problems all cropped up at once. The first is a failure to detect any USB devices connecting, such as an mp3 player (creative zen), mouse, and calculator. I also noticed that windows is unable to access the integrated SD card slot. The other issue is explorer-related; if I right-click on the background, explorer hangs indefinitely and needs a full reboot to restart working. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anybody else with similar problems.

Trouble With Rear USB Ports
I'm having a strange problem with my mouse. This is the first wireless mouse I have ever used. At first I thought is was my mouse that was acting up. Now I am pretty sure it is my USB ports in the rear of the computer. My problem is my mouse pointer stops moving constantly. It resembles a trashy ball mouse the way it stops moving with the exception that my pointer suddenly catches up with where it needs to be. During all this time I was considering the possibilities that it could be my mouse or a glitch in windows 7 build 7229. A few nights ago for the first time my mouse quit responding. I was forced to check it out and try a different port. Non of the rear ports seem to work so I tried a front port. I did not have any trouble with the mouse on the front port. After a few hours I tried a different rear port and after a while the same thing started again. Now for the second time switching back to the front port without any problems. I am curious if anyone else has had this problem. What do you think it could be?I realize this could be fixed in the Retail versions of Windows 7? Maybe a driver update is needed. Does this sound like a problem with the USB chip? Could there be interference with my wireless network adapter? I'm not really sure where to start diagnostics. I don't really want to pull my adapter if I can get out of it. What do you guys think?

Trouble Copying Files From Usb Flash Drive
Using a Sandisk USB flash drive. Windows recognizes drive, shows contents, everything seems fine, however, when copying from flash to hard drive, it halts and I get a message stating file is no longer on the flash do I want to continue or cancel. Sure enough when I cancel the operation and refresh, the drive shows files missing. When I reinsert the flash drive, I am able to see all files once again. I can start the copy process again but I get the same results. Has anyone else experienced this?I should add that I am running 64bit edition.

But When I try to connect it to my current Windows 7 x64 install, it justs gives me an I/O device error, I think it might have something to do with the Device driver for Win 7 It might not be compatible, I don't know just thought somebody might have an idea if I can get it to work in Windows 7.

Shuttle Card Reader PC 23 (USB) - Error Code 10
I have tried several times to use my Shuttle Card Reader (PC23) that is connected to my mainbord on a free internal extended USB connector. Error message : Error Code 10 - can`t use device. If I insert a SD Card in the SD slot on the Card Reader, and use the hardware trobleschooting in Windows 7 RC : Win 7 can reconise the SD Card and I can use it, but only during the session. Next time i start the system I have the same error as before. For this 4 in one Card Reader there is no Driver for Win XP or Vista nesesary, so i think there normally no driver needed for Windows 7 RC either.Â

Broadcom USB Smart Card Reader Not Working
After upgrading my Vista Business SP2 (32-bit) to Windows 7 Ultimate RC (32-bit) my Broadcom USB smart card reader does not work any longer (Dell Latitude E6400 with built in smart card reader). The newest available driver from dell support was already tested (Broadcom, driver date 09/23/2008, version 1.0.0.1, digitally signed WHQL, released by dell in March 09), but the device can not start (Error code 10) with Windows 7. With the Microsoft WUDF Driver (Usbccid, driver date 06/21/2006, version 6.1.7100.0) the device starts but whenever I insert my smart card an additional device is detected (other device - smart card) but no driver found - Error message is: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). What else can I try to get this reader working again (with vista sp2 the smart card reader was working fine with the broadcom driver)?

Dell USB Card Reader Not Working Properly
I have a Dell XPS Studio 435T that was running Vista Home Prem. 64 bit. My card readers were labeled G:, H:, I:, and J: and were there when I got the machine. C: and D: are the Dell Vista Home Prem. 64 bit OS and the Dell Restore partition, E: and F: are my DVD drives. These drives always appear. The system was built early May and was the A07 BIOS. When I needed to read an SD card, I plugged the card into the proper slot, nothing happened? Discovered the drive was NOT on Explorer nor COMPUTER desktop icon when double clicked. I have a Canon printer with card slots, put the card in the printer after I turned it on and I can read the card, so it isn't the card (unless the 435T's slot can't read 8GB SD cards). I don't get any errors when starting the system and nothing apparent in the Event Viewer. I called Dell figuring they'd be aware of this problem and have a suggestion. Wrong, they claim it isn't a common problem and is either a h/w problem or I 'did something' to the system that caused this. Suggested fix was to restore the system to the shipped state and I was not too happy about that. The Rep. then agreed to get on my system and look at it. I showed him the drives and the Device Manager that had an 'Unknown Device' and that it had no driver. I showed him that when I tried to update the drive it said I had the correct driver. I deleted that device and then had Device Manager search for changes and it found the same 'Unknown Device'. Now the Rep. thought I had a driver problem and proceeded to re-load the Intel Chipset drivers. I think I did replace those with more recent ones, but I let him. It installed INSTANTLY and the rep. said it meant I had the drivers installed... Checked the drives again, not there. Next step as for me to shut-off the system and restart into the BIOS screen and RESET the BIOS to the factory default. OK, but when the system booted, didn't do anything for the problem. Now the Rep. asked if I could open the case and check the cables to the reader bar. This was after he came back on-line after checking what to do next. By this time I decided I wanted to try something, I have a USB single card reader. I put the SD card into it and inserted it into the card readers USB connector. It found the device, although it didn't assign a drive? Put that same device into the USB connectors behind it and it had the same results but the Rep. was now convinced I had power to the card reader and wouldn't need to open the case. I then used a real USB Flash drive, put that in the card bar and it worked and could be read (and the Rep. wanted to connect and open the flash drive to be sure, which I allowed). So, the Rep. wants to REPLACE the h/w. From the reports I've seen, this is a waste of time. His response was he's never seen other reports of this failure and my only other choice is to restore Vista to the shipped state. So I OK'ed the h/w replacement. I know I've seen the drives as recently as 2 weeks ago. I was surprised one day when I opened Explorer and saw additional drives and then determined they were the card slots. As suddenly as they appeared, a few days later they were gone. Dell eventually replaced the device, cable from motherboard to it, and even the motherboard. In all cases, replacing that component had the card slots reappear on boot, only to disappear sometime later. This had been ongoing since July when I first discovered the problem. Only after I installed Win7 was the true problem discovered. I had a random BSOD under Vista with DVD Flick. Not often, but it happened. All I had to do was re-boot and it worked fine. Assumed it was a memory problem. After installing Win7 and booting after a BSOD from DVD Flick Win7 reported a USB device was not working properly and showed a list of USB devices. The suggestion, unplug and re-plug the device and if it didn't fix it, replace the device. Well, looking in Explorer, the card slots were gone. Unplugged the cable and put them back in (case had to be opened to do this) and booted, problem was gone. I've since removed DVD Flick and the problem has not come back. So, the question is why wasn't the USB port working properly? I assume an initialization problem, and I see a HOTFIX was just released for Nvidia systems with 4GB's of memory and USB devices stop working so I wonder if the USB drivers could be at fault here?

Trouble With Live Mail And Win 7
I am running Windows 7 evaluation copy 7100 and have several problems with Windows Live Mail. This is my one and only email programme and I have two accounts. My webmail provider is Windows Live Mail and this is set as default my other account is my original POP3 provider. I use my Live mail for personal emails, the other one is used for all the normal junk.  I have set up Windows Live Mail to accept both of these accounts and I have put additional folders in both accounts i.e., misc. and receipts. I have noticed that over the past few weeks the Live account appears to receive all the emails that I am getting and stores them under my Live accounts settings, these messages are then duplicated in the POP3 account so I now get the same message twice. This did not happen before, the Live mail went into the Live Mail inbox and the POP3 messages went into the POP3 inbox. I am wondering if I have got everything right, I think I have as it worked OK before. I have now reverted to using Outlook 2007 for both accounts using the Outlook connector service and am wondering if I can delete the Live Mail programme from my computer.Â

Installation Failed When Internal Card Reader Was Connected To USB Connector
I tried to install Windows 7 on a computer where the internal card reader was connected to the USB connector on the MB. This lead to an error message like "Windows could not terminate the system configuration..... please reboot. This message came up after each new reboot. Even boot in safe mode didn't change anything. I deleted the HDD completely and disconnected the card reader and restarted the installation. Then it worked fine. The problem came probably from the drive letter. The 2 DVD drives were now D: and E:. At the first installation D: to G: was taken by the card reader and the DVD drives got I: and J:Maybe this information will help others with the same problem.

Lastest Nvidia Driver For Win 7 Trouble
I just installed the latest Nvidia driver for Windows 7. I restarted and now have a black screen with the watermark in the lower right corner and a mouse pointer. How do I even roll back the driver? Should I hard shut down and try again? Forgot about trying in safe mode...hope that does it. Roll back in safe mode did it but I would be careful using these drivers for x64 Win 7. They say that's what they're for. Edit more info: If you're looking at this...don't try to uninstall the driver that didn't work form "programs and features". It took ALL display drivers off my system and I went through hell again trying to get any display driver to work.

Random BSOD And Trouble Installing Win 7
Well the heading of this thread interested me a lot, but my problem is somewhat different. I had a hell of a time installing Win7. Had to borrow a friends Geforce to finish installation since my ATI card (and I read in many places that the ATI drivers bundled with the win7 installation can cause trouble with HD4850). The installation would go to the final setup screen then BSOD every time. Plugged in the Geforce and voila, I entered windows. I then switched back to the HD4850 and updated the drivers in safe mode. However, the stability was short-lived and I got recurring Power-Kernel critical errors (0x124). So after a week of complete instability and replacing every single driver I could think of, I gave up and went back to XP. NOW the trouble started. I'm getting random resets and powerouts when running the same WinXP installation I had used before with no problems at all. I would think that a PSU either goes or doesn't, but is it possible that something has reduced its voltage output? I'm pretty worked up about all this, since my computer was 100% stable before I tried Win7, now I can't even revert to XP. I can get into the OS for a few minutes, not even enough time to install chipset drivers. Safe mode just BSODs.

Win 7 Not Recognizing Internal Memory Card Reader
"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. I have 4 USB ports in the back which are connected to my printer, mouse, keyboard and external hard drive which are all functioning fine. I have two USB ports on the front which are unoccupied. I have an internal memory card reader in this desktop, and that's the only thing I think it can be. To resolve the problem it is asking me to reconnect the device or replace it. I have disconnected and reconnected th memory card reader while the pc was on, the pc recognizes a device has been disconnected and reconnected, but not what it is. Under device manager, it says, "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" I have therefore disabled it for now, but would like to get it working. Do you think this problem wil be fixed automatically in an update sometime. When I go to driver details, it says "No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device" And when I click on update driver, it says I have the latest driver.
