Vista Work Properly, Win 7 No, On Same Hardware
on my pc with Vista Home Premium I installed in dual-boot Windows 7 RTM on a dedicated partition. While Vista works perfectly for two years, never a blue screen, never crashes, W7 does not want to work. Gave me now a blue screen error, now another one. Then I tried to install it, leaving only the original Ram removing the RAM added by me, I disconnected the USB stick, and everything worked beautifully. I left the PC on for a whole day installing programs, antivirus, various tools, all ok!

The day after I entered the second bank of memory and the problems begin: Errors "PCI Express", Pc locked, BSOD frequently. Why with the same hardware Vista is practically perfect and with W7 crashes? I downloaded the drivers from the mainboard site, from the site of the video card, but not useless.

Getting Win 7 RC To Work Properly With A DVI Monitor
I know the beta would not connect properly to a DVI display, meaning no vga <-> dvi adapters. it simply would not display on a straight dvi display.

Anyone having better luck with the RC.  before i go through the process of the install i'm hoping to see someone with some good news.

If MS can get that part right i'll be the first guy with cash in hand at the store...

Network And Sharing Doesn't Work Properly
I have a Windows 7 laptop connected via a WRT54G2 wireless router to an XP SP3 desktop. Both the laptop and desktop can see shared resources and both can connected to the internet.

In the Laptop's Network and Sharing Center, however, things are not correct. The Laptop has two connections to the router, lan and wireless. The lan's connection appears OK, but I cannot generate a map. I get "Windows cannot discover any computer or device." The wireless network is public.

I don't know why and I don't know how to change it. Also, when I try to create a new network connection, the laptop sees only a WRT160N router (which I don't have; perhaps I did a while ago, when the laptop ran Vista). No place to add a new one.

I have Cisco's Network Magic and it can correct see everything, including the right router.

Keyboard Does Not Work After Install Win 7
On 10/25 I downloaded Windows 7 and it turned out to be a big mistake. I lost all of my files except for the ones I put on my flash drive (now I will take the blame for this part because I did not know I had to back-up my stuff) I thankfully still had my office 2007 disc and at first.

I was able to use office 2007 without the product key, but I just now retrieved my product key from the office team but it seems to be to late for it will no longer ask me for it and no longer allow me to use Office at all [it will load up but will not allow to type anything].

The worst part about this is that I am taking online classes at University of Phoenix and cannot do my work. Another major problem is that my (C) drive is completely full now and I do not have room for anything outside of Adobe and Office.

Keyboard And Mouse Don't Work
I installed Windows 7 and everything appeared to be working properly. I installed it on a separate partition with Vista on my previous partition. The problems began with the mouse and keyboard not working at the login screen. After a few off and ons I got it to work. I then downloaded the latest Intellipoint and Intellitype drives (7.0) and it seemed to work fine. Then it stopped I cannot log into Windows 7 anymore. I am using wireless keyboard and mouse but I unplugged them and plugged a simple USB keyboard and mouse but the problem is the same.

They work in Vista and they work so that I can select Windows 7 or vista during boot up but neither work at the login screen.

KeyBoard Doesn't Work After A Minute Or So
if I restart my computer, about the half the time my keyboard stops working after a minute. I get the chance to log-in, I open internet explorer, and start typing in a URL and it randomly stops. I can't do anything else with the keyboard. So then I have to restart and see if it works from there. If it continues to work I can keep typing pretty much forever.

I went to get the driver for my computer, but when I install it I get an error message "Operating System is not supported, Set up will now exit." That is the windows vista driver. Currently I am running a Dell XPS1530, it had Vista 32bit and I installed 32 bit 7 on here. Any ideas?

Taskbar Keyboard Shortcuts Don't Work
I've read that the shortcut to access items in your task bar is windowkey + (1-9) depending on the placement of the app from the start button. I've tried it, but no luck. When I press the combination, nothing happens. Does this work for anybody else? Am I doing something wrong? I love the idea of this working, but it does me no good until I get some kinda success with it.

Keyboard Doesn't Work After Leave The PC For Hours
I'm running Windows 7, the keyboard works fine as long as I'm using it but when I leave the PC for hours and try to work after that, the keyboard doesn't work and I have to use the on-screen keyboard to login and continue working on the on-screen keyboard only. The only way for the keyboard to work again is if I restart the PC.

Is there an option that I have to check or something? Anyone knows how to resolve this problem ..

Certain Programs Dont Start Up Automatically

1. Fraps
2. Steam

For some reason they wont startup automatically when Win7 starts up. I have selected the option within each program for it to start when windows starts, where this option is available, or creating a shortcut and adding it to the startup menu, but nothing works.

Any ideas?

Video File Thumbnails Dont Show
As the title says, for whatever reason Windows Explorer no longer generates picture thumbnails for my video files (just .avi, .mpg etc files), although it did work before (for the same files). It isn't the "show only icons, not thumbnails" option in folder options, I already checked that. It isn't a general problem with picture thumbnails, they do show up for for example .jpg files. The files themselves work fine, the file association with Media Player doesn't appear to be impaired in any way either.

A second problem which seems to have cropped up at about the same time is with the recent files list for Media Player when I right-click it on the task bar. Video files aren't added to the list anymore. The list does show recent files I opened about a week ago, but if I open another file it isn't added to the list. If I click on one of the video files already on the recent files list it does move to the top of the list, however.

The problem is specifically with video files, if I play a folder of mp3 files it does get added to the recent files list. I've searched the net for solutions but although I have encountered similar sounding problems (mostly with regard to the thumbnail issue), none of the proposed solutions (like rebuilding the Icon database) have worked.

Mouse And Keyboard Does Not Work From Time To Time
I already searched for threads here related to the mouse and keyboard not working. However, their issue is that their mouse and keyboard really don't work after installation.

Mine however, is different. I have a Samsung Pleomax Keyboard and Mouse. (both USB)  They do work after installation and for some time now. BUT there are times that when I restart my PC (not Shutdown and turn on again) the keyboard and mouse does not work.

This happens only when I restart or open the PC for the first time on the day.

Anyone having the same problem?

Boot Messages Dont Show At Boot / Post Time
Because of this I cant select which system to boot on my dual boot system. The display lights up only after Windows  7 has booted.

However, the monitor shows all boot messages when plugged into my XP SP3 desktop so I know the monitor is not the issue.

Problem is, I now have a new computer build, ASUS P7P55D-E mobo.

My video card is now a Sapphire Radeon HD 4670. I had the same missing boot messages problem with a previous video card which I already RMAed so it is hard for me to point to a defective card.

I am using a DVI-D cable which is factory attached to my monitor. To try and understand my situation, I tried an HDMI cable to my plasma TV with the same results. I.E. No boot messages.

I called ASUS to make sure there is not a BIOS setting that might be wrong. They say the MB is plug and play and there are no setting that would affect monitor operation.

The sapphire website has a support page that deals with this issue. It says to update my video cards BIOS. Problem is, I am already at the latest firmware point. The next item they say to check is that I might have the "incorrect monitor type selected in windows".

I have tried to load in the Monitor type IBM_T55D.INF file to replace the "Generic PnP Monitor". The Generic has a driver date of 2008.  This did not work. Win7 says:

The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with windows for x64 based systems.

Again, a connected 25yo VGA monitor is fine and I see all the boot messages.

What should I do to get my LCD moni working?

Period Keyboard Lockups / Toshiba Satellite M40 Keyboard
Toshiba PSM30 Satellite Laptop
1.25Gb Ram
Centrino 1.5Ghz

when using windows 7 on this laptop periodically the keyboard input will freeze - it will freeze for up to two seconds after which the keypresses will "catch up".

Ive hunted around for a solution to this and only managed to find a issue for some installs upgrading form winxp...

The sugestion here http://www.watchingthenet.com/windows-vista-tip-how-to-fix-slow-keyboard-response-after-upgrade-from-windows-xp.html

suggests adding a new regrsitry key which I have done and it has made ZERO difference (its not made it any worse either)

At the moment this is making this laptop pretty unusable in that it locks out keyboard input about once every 30 seconds....

Note that this lockout is not tied to any particular program (it even happens in notepad with no other programs running).

Ive preorded win7 for this laptop prior to installing the RC, and I am now starting to worry i may not be able to use it on this laptop.

if i keep the cpu gadet running "always on top" I can see that when the keyboard input is getting buffered its not the case that the CPU is maxed out at 100% in face i can see it happening when the cpu is running at less than 20 percent.

Dunno if this is a driver issue or an issue with my particular hardware setup. This is not the newest laptop but its not the oldest either, and apart from this win7 runs at an ok rate. Memory utilisation is around 45%.

Very occasionally when typing it seems that windows will issue an alert sound when the keyboard locks out but its not every time and there is no alert message associated with the sound - all in all its hugely frustrating.

Keyboard Input Causes Audio Skipping, No Keyboard Repeat
I'm having a strange issue with Windows 7, involving keyboard input and audio playback. I find that when I'm typing something (like this message, or anything else) and listening to music through any media player, the audio output skips as I type. There doesn't seem to be a real pattern to it, but it is definitely noticeable skipping only when I'm typing.

I also noticed that if I try to use a repeating key function, such as holding down the backspace key, the audio output stops completely, and the key does not repeat; the cursor just hangs until I let go of the key, at which point the music starts playing again too. Is anyone else having this issue?

Only the standard English layouts work. In all Linux version this has been working so far -- however why not in Win7?

Beside that Win7 seems quiet nice.

Computer Not Shutting Down Properly
I have a dual boot computer running Vista Ultimate and Windows 7 RC.

I recently built a new computer for my wife and loaded it with just Windows 7 RC pending delivery of the full retail version in October.

Both computers have a similar problem. Sometimes - but not always - after shutting down the computer using the Start>Shut Down button it appears to shut down but has actually gone into a deep sleep with a blank black monitor and will not wake up no matter what keyboard buttons you press. It will also not reboot when you hit the computer power button.

The only way you can switch the computer off is to hold the computer power button down for about 10 seconds - then press it again for a normal reboot.
