Base System Device Drivers Not Installed
In Device Manger under "Other Devices" there is an entry titled "Base System Device." The message is " The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver." Also "pci bus 9, device 3, function 2" appears. Needless to say, the "Update Driver Software" nor the Sony Support Website seem to list any drivers. However, everything seems to work but perhaps I haven't used whatever function this driver runs. I'm running a Sony laptop, Model VGN-FW351J. 2.00 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo, 64 kilobyte primary memory cache, 2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache, 64-bit ready, Multi-core (2 total), Not hyper-threaded.Any suggestions to update (or install) the driver will be greatly appreciated.

Base System Device Drivers Not Installed After Win 7 Pro 64 Bit Clean Installation
I've just clean installed Win 7 Pro 64 bit on a Dell Inspiron 640m laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 processor (original OS was Vista Ultimate). All appears to have gone well but on checking Device Manager there's a Base System Device entry in Other Devices group which is showing an exclamation mark. On opening this entry it shows "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" Clicking Update Driver and searching the Internet fails to locate a driver. I didn't install an Intel chipset after the Win 7 install (this computer is almost 3 years old and Dell haven't provided a chipset for Win 7 so I'm assuming chipset support is included in Win 7 out of the box).Could anyone advise if the above is likely to cause any significant problems?

Error Code Error Code 0x80070017 And Device Compatability Issue
I have not been able to install W-7 on a factory installed Vista OS. Into the 3rd phase of the install i get an error code 0x80070017. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Also, and perhaps related, after doing the Compatability Check, I get a message that the "Key Board filter" may not work correctly after the install and advises to open the Control Panel and search for "update driver". I have done this and have checked my keyboard device settings and it says all my keyboard drivers are up to date. Any suggestions on how I can resolve or work around this device warning?

Icons In Device Manager Issue After Installation Of USB Device Drivers
We had a (small) issue when installing our USB device driver on Windows 7 RC. I downloaded the newest WDK, created and signed with Authenticode a new cat file including the new OS, and built a simple installer for installing the drivers. We used the recommended functions like CryptCATAdminAcquireContext, CryptCATAdminAddCatalog, CryptCATAdminReleaseCatalogContext and CryptCATAdminReleaseContext as well as SetupCopyOEMInf. We created a new device class and therefore the drivers appeared in the device manager as "unknown devices". We added the registry keys for displaying the mini icon for "USB devices". This worked pretty well on Vista64. Using the same installer script on Windows 7 (64-bit) still showed the "unknown devices" in the device manager. As we have to prepare now our installers to be compatible with Windows 7 and we need to know if this is a bug or if there exists a workaround.

Windows Has Shut Down This Device (code 43)
1. First in the device manager, my "Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter is getting and error that says "Windows has shut down this device (code 43)" 2. The speed of the internet spikes between normal speed(10k-18k bytes/s to around 40 bytes a second 3. In the event view there is a warning that says: "NtpClient was unable to set a domain peer to use as a time source because of discovery error. NtpClient will try again in 3473457 minutes and double the reattempt interval thereafter. The error was: The entry is not found. (0x800706E1)" 4. Another problem in the event viewer: "Name resolution for the name isatap.ktechsystems.ca timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded." 5. Yet another problem, at this point my internet slows down to an unbearable speed: "This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain KTECHSYSTEMS due to the following: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator. Otherwise, this computer sets up the secure session to any domain controller in the specified domain." If anyone has a suggestion on how i can fix this, it would be greatly appreciated. ps. -internet worked fine while hooked into the router through a cable -im network retarded -I apologize for my ignorance

Code 12: This Device Cannot Find Enough Free Resources That It Can Use
I've just upgraded from Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit)Â - now have a problem with the Intel 945 Express Chipset - the troubleshooter says "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)" which is why I am assuming my external monitor won't work. Windows update has downloaded the lastest driver for the 945 chipset - I think this is what caused the problem in the first place, but older drivers not won't resolve either. Have also download the latest generic driver from intel download centre and does not resolve. I'm using a Sony Vaio VGN-TZ17 - anyone got any ideas on how to resolve this?

PCI Bus 15, Device 0, Function 0 Error Code 28
I have Windows 7 RC on my Dell XPS M1730 (actually made it triple boot with XP Pro and Vista home premium, dual hard drives). So far everything seems to work, but device manager shows an unknown PCI device with error - PCI bus 15, device 0, function 0 error code 28 (no driver installed). I cannot figure out what the device is so I can get the driver for it. I have run "driverquery" in Vista and Windows 7 RC and they look about the same. Device manager in Vista and XP show no errors, only Windows 7 RC. Anyone have any ideas, so far all my hardware seems to be working ok..

I've tried downloading the driver form intel as of 1 April 2009 (rather ominous date for a release), that would no install on Windows 7. This one shoudl be good "in the box" as they say. Highpoint Raid 172x Device Cannot Start (code 10) Error
Ok I have spent the last 2 hours or so troubleshooting this myself and I am rather exhausted at this point so forgive me as I write this up.  I just installed Windows 7. 081212 32bit. I have a old 20 gig IDE drive I installed to no problem. I have 2 750gb drives on a Highpoint RAID (not implementing RAID) 1720 SATA controller. This controller works on Windows 98-Vista. After windows starts for the first time one of the first things I try to do is install drives for the RAID controller because those drives host my antivirus and driver files for everything else. So I go online and download the latest Highpoint drivers available for both Windows Vista, XP, and 2003. Vista drives install without glitch. I restart when it asks and then nope, I get the device cannot start error. So I try the XP and 2003 drivers, restarting each time. Same thing happened on all accounts. Finally I think I'll go into safe mode and try something there cause that helps sometimes. So as I start hitting F8 to get into safe mode I see a couple of new options in the list. One of the last ones is something (I cant quote) about disabling driver signatures or force loading with improper driver something so I try that option and nothing changes. So I restart and choose safe mode. GUESS WHAT!? In safe mode device manager does not show the device cannot start error for the Highpoint controller. In fact, its completely operational. I can access my SATA drives and everything. So at this point I know it has something to do with the drivers and how Windows is accessing them in normal mode. I do some more digging and find out all the ways you can disable driver signing in XP and Vista and tried several things, none of which worked. So why would my SATA controller work in safe mode but get an error starting when i'm in normal mode? I cant figure it out and I cant stay up anymore to keep troubleshooting. FYI the driver I left installed that worked in safe mode and are currently installed is the Vista 32 driver.

USB Device Detected Won't Start (code 10)
I've done a fresh install of Windows 7 yesterday on my desktop PC and I want to use the virtual PC for some USB hardware that doesn't have any x64 drivers. I can choose the USB devices fine in the virtual machine, they are detected and XP starts the usual hardware install wizard. However one of my devices gets the yellow exclamation mark in the device manager with a code 10 (device cannot start). The virtual machine runs XP SP3, my laptop runs XP SP3 as well and there is no problem on there with this hardware. This leads me to believe that it might be a windows 7 Vmachine issue that is causing this. I've tried removing the hardware and installing it again, but that didn't solve the problem. Any ideas for a possible solution?

No Sound, No Sound Device Detected, Drives Installed
I'm in a pickle with my machine and Windows 7 after this latest update. On startup I get an error from MMDevApi.dll saying that it might not run on Windows or... something else. This also occurs anytime a program tries to use the sound card ie. WoW, Yahoo IM, Live IM, SL, etc. I've updated my sound card drivers to the newest ones. I still get an error that says the device is detected when going to "Sound Devices" in the control panel. Trying to adjust the sounds themselves leads me to the Windows Audio thing... which won't start even from the component list.

Drivers Installed With Every Logon
Every time I logon, Windows 7 installs drivers for two PCI standard PCI-to-PCI Bridge devices; I don't know why there are two of these devices listed in Device Manager - if I delete them then both come back. Also, Windows 7 installs a driver for an 'unknown device' - Windows 7 gives no clue as to the nature of this device. Does anyone have any idea why Windows 7 installs to these three with every logon and not just the once?

BSOD On Restart Whenever Drivers Are Installed
Whenever I install drivers, on restart I get a BSOD stating something about a stack overrun due to a driver (I assume it is the driver recently installed). The only way to get Windows 7 to boot is via the System Restore after it fails to boot twice. Drivers I've tried to install are the Nvidia GeForce 8 series beta drivers for Windows 7, the official Vista drivers for the Creative Audigy 2 ZS, the official Windows 7 beta drivers for the ZS, and a set of unofficial drivers. All result in the same BSOD after reboot. As mentioned I've tried multiple drivers. I've also tried reinstalling Windows 7 and install drivers on the clean OS, resulting in the same BSOD.
