Terminal Services Windows Won't Support A Second Display

Using build 7000, I've had the same result using the Citrix Web Interface to access a Server 2003 and the TS Web Access interface to access a Server 2008 box (no Citrix). In both scenarios, the session windows will only operate in the primary display.

They will not maximize to fill both displays and they cannot be dragged between displays (the edge disappears as though the app were being pulled off-screen). I have an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M adapter, and have had the same results with driver prerelease - WDDM 1.1 and the one before that.

If it's relevant, I'm using a Dell Latitude D630 with 4 GB RAM.On XP and Vista I didn't have this problem.I've tried a variety of settings in the nView Desktop Manager - including turning it off; no change. This is not a serious problem, but it would be nice to run my apps in my secondary display, which is much larger than the notebook's.

All Programs Won't Display And Speech Recognition Won't Start
My speech recogntiion won't start. I don't have a system restore that far back, but it hasn't been working since 3, maybe 4 updates back and I am now just getting around to it, since I have had other concerns lately. The error I get is "Speech recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported.

The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options." I go there and press certain buttons and I sometimes get the error message "The requested task can not be carried out because the neccesary engine can not be created. Please select a different engine and/or audio device."

I have tried changing the laguage and then restarting and it still won't work. I am using the same mic I was using before when it worked. I have not installed any new sound drivers when it stopped although I have looked for the sound drivers since and there are no new ones.

I also had two other problems after the same Windows 7 update with the All Programs not displaying in the Start Menu, but I have dont a temporary fix with that, but it is still not working the way it is supposed to as I had to make a new sub folder in the Programs folder and change the location to that folder every time I start up Windows and so now I go into All Programs and then a second folder, which is ok for now, gonna write a batch file to do it for me anyway.

The other problem is that my sidebar wouldn't start, but I think I fixed that last night. As my gadgets are now working.

CD Drive Won't Display
Recently I've been installing/uninstalling DVD burner programs because the DVD maker that came with Windows 7 didn't seem to work for me. Of course, I had to uninstall many of the programs that I installed because it wasn't compatible with Windows 7. I think it was after I uninstalled the program Imgburn that I was no longer able to view my CD (F:) drive under my computer.

I found out that one of the drivers was disabled (code 32), so I tried repairing it following the solutions online. I mostly found that I could fix it by enabling the drive, but that wouldn't work. I tried disabling the drive and reenabling it, and even trying to edit it from regedit. Can someone help me? I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. The operating system is 64-bit and the processor is Pentium(R) dual core T4200. The driver that's having problems is TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L633B ATA Device.

Matrox Win 7(x64) Display Driver Won't Install
I'm having problems installing my Matrox driver on windows 7(x64) version.

I've been using the 32bit version of windows 7, and i managed to get the matrox driver installed no problem. (i used the windows compatibility mode)

I've tried the same method again (Windows compatibility mode) and downloaded the Vista(x64) version of the driver. It suggests the right diver to install but then says i have an incompatible version of windows.

I have read up on the problem, and i have seen suggestions to check that the device ID is listed in the display drivers .inf file.

I've checked that and my device ID does exsist in the driver .inf file. So now i'm stumped, is there another way to install my driver?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why my driver won't install.

Roaming Profiles Issue With Office SharePoint Services Support
Running a Windows 7 x64 Enterprise install, with a user with a roaming profile / folder redirection.  When attempting to access sharepoint resources that require the office integration, I'm getting the ". requires a Windows SharePoint Servides-compatible application..." error. This normally indicates a problem with the Office installation (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833714), however if we log in to the same computer with a non-roaming profile it works fine.

The profile in question was originally created on an x86 machine (user actually logs in to both an x86 and x64 computer). I know we can delete the profile and fix the issue, but I'd like to just correct the particular issue. My guess there is a problem with the "program files" and the "program files (x86)" ..

Printers Issue - RDP To Windows 2000 Terminal Server
When making an RDP connection to terminal servers running Windows 2000 server we find that all of our existing printer drivers are not recognized.

A Windows 7 RC client PC cannot print when RDP connected to our  terminal servers which are running Windows 2000 Server.  When using any of the standard printer drivers that were operational under Windows XP or Vista, such as the basic “HP LaserJet 4” driver, they no longer work through terminal services.  Curiously these same printer drivers do properly work when RDP connected to a Windows 2003 Server…but not to a Windows 2000 Server.

The event log on the Windows 2000 terminal server shows no printer related entries at all when the Windows 7 PC makes the RDP connection.

The “printers” checkbox is checked but printer redirection is not working.

Additionally I installed the new virtual Windows XP mode package on this same Windows 7 PC and noticed that the virtual Windows XP mode session automatically added the same printers to the virtual XP mode session as exist on the Windows 7 PC without having to manually install any new drivers.  And  when I RDP connect from the virtual Windows XP session to my Windows 2000 Server, the printers are properly recognized and useable in my terminal services session!

This seems to indicate that this is not simply a printer driver mismatch situation as the very same printer drivers match and work properly when connecting from the virtual Windows XP mode session running on the same Windows 7 PC.

I also manually disabled the new default Windows 7 policy “Execute print drivers in installed processes” but it made no difference.

Also, there is a significant performance hit when connecting to a Windows 2000 terminal server.

It looks like something is out of whack with RDP connections from a Windows 7 PC to a Windows 2000 server.

Windows Backup Won't Increment
For some reason, today, though, it stopped working as expected. I haven't made many changes to my system since my last backup, but for some reason Windows Backup is trying to make a NEW backup set, instead of adding an incremental update to the previous one. No matter what I do, it tries to make a whole new backup of 60+ GB, instead of adding the 1-2 GB additional to the existing backup.

Is there some way to specify that I want to increment, and not make a new copy?

Windows Upgrade Advisor Won't Install
Trying to install Win 7 Upgrade Advisor on a two-year old Vista machine (DELL XPS 420). Clicking the setup icon to install gets me nothing. No installation screens, no warnings, no errors, nothing. I tried installing on an older XP laptop and the software installs there just fine. I've checked the other related topics and they seem to be related to problems installing on XP, not Vista. Any ideas what I'm missing? I've never encountered an installation that fails before it even starts.

Error Code: 0x80070017, Now Windows Won't Start
I downloaded the 32 Bit Version of Windows 7 RC today and burned the ISO to a DVD using ImgBurn, but when I booted from the disc to install Windows 7 using the custom option, it got to 81% and then I got an error message. The error message reads as follows:Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for instatallation are available, and restart the installation.Error code: 0x80070017

After I click OK, my laptop restarts. It shows the Acer Logo and the Microsoft Corporation loading screen as usual, but then it shows a light blue screen (which looks something like the Windows Vista login screen but with no text and no login options) and restarts. It keeps restarting and showing the same things until I turn it off by the power button.Does anyone have any idea what is wrong? I can't get onto Windows Vista and am stumped and rather annoyed.

DivX 6 Encode AVI's Won't Play In Media Center
I am having a very odd problem. I have a bunch of files on another computer that I used to stream to this computer when it was Vista Ultimate running in Media Center. Now, with 7 RC Ultimate, when I try to stream the very same files within Media Center, Media Center itself crashes and has to be restarted.

This seems to be on ANY AVI that I have that is DivX 6 or XviD encoded (I think XviD anyway, I have definitely narrowed it down to being a DivX problem). I can go out to Windows Explorer and choose the very same file and play it perfectly fine in the regular Media Player application. I am not understanding why it plays in Media Player, but not in the much more desireable Media Center.

Multiple Display Swapping Support
On one of our workstations we were able to successfully install Windows 7, it is excellent, however there is a feature missing from the Display properties that was available in Vista.

We need the ability to swap monitors assignments. Vista had an option to select which monitor was on the left, and which monitor was on the right.

We have a 24 inch HP monitor we use as the main monitor on the right, and a 19inch Samsung monitor we use as a secondary on the left.

While Win 7 does give the ability to choose which is the primary, it does not allow us to select which monitor is on the right or left of the other.

Unfortunately Win 7 has detected the HP as the left monitor. With the desktop setup it's not a matter of just switching the physical placement of the monitors. We need the ability to select position as it was offered in our previous setup.

Until we find a way to swap them, we will continue of course to use the RC, but hope this will be addressed in one of the service update releases before Win7 goes RTM.

If anyone has seen a solution to this issue outside of 3rd party software such as ultramon, we would be interested in hearing from you.

Intel 82945G Drivers / Support For Independent Dual Display
I can not seem to find a way to engage the Intel 82945G chipset in dual independent display mode, which worked natively in Vista.

I have tried installing the Windows 7 Beta:

As a fresh 32bit installation
As a fresh 64bit installation, and As an upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit version. where the display was fully functioning in dual mode.

It seems none of the publicly available drivers for Intel 82945G integrated graphics chip that are Windows 7 compatible support the independent multi monitor mode. this includes:

The Windows 7 Beta drivers supplied natively by the Microsoft install, The latest downloadable drivers from Intel: v7.14.10.1504), This is quite disappointing, as the native drivers used by Windows Vista, support dual independent displays, SEAMLESSLY. It appears as if this shortcoming has to do with WDDM 1.0 support vs. WDDM 1.1, although it isn't entirely clear to me if this is the case.

SDVO (Serial Digital Video Out) or ADD2 Dual-Display Expansion Card in the PCI-Express slot
1600x1200 capable Viewsonic P95f+ CRT using 15pin VGA Cable
1680x1050 LCD widescreen using DVI Cable

Please let me know if drivers (even beta or non-public versions) are available that support independent dual display mode, or if there is some way to enable the previous generation Vista drivers to manage the graphics shics chipset such that it supports independent dual displays.

WordPad Improved, But No More 'Scraps' Support
One of the features I used a lot in WinXP was:

- open WordPad for typing a quick text, or pasting something

- CTRL+A to Select All

- Drag the selection to the Desktop, creating a 'Scrap', a 'torn-text-icon' for instant access, opening with WordPad (IMHO, better than QuickNotes, for the text could have any lenght, keeping the formating, but still just an icon on the desktop)

In Windows 7, WordPad was revamped, 'New & Improved', with more MS-Word-like features; but...

- Scraps are no longer supported with WordPad

My WinXP partition is still accessed thru Windows 7 Windows Explorer ('Documents and SettingsUserDesktop'), but the scraps '*.shs' files are also no longer supported by Windows 7, unable to be opened.

At least drag-n-drop the browser URL icon to the desktop is still supported (pages I don't want to bookmark, just save to read then latter).

Hyper Terminal Or An Equivalent Program
Ever since Windows Vista, there has been no provisions for a basic terminal program. Now, a person is forced into finding a third party program to be used as a replacement. In all previous versions of Windows, there has always been a terminal program available. In my line of work, a terminal program is necessary to configure and diagnose equipment used in two-way satellite data systems.

Computer Won't Stay Off
I am about at wits end when it comes to this computer. I just built it like last week, and everything runs beautifully about it; that is, except that the dang thing won't stay turned off! I tell it to shutdown, and it turns itself back on after about two or three seconds. Let me clarify: the computer itself does NOT randomly shutdown, nor am I having problems with sleep or hibernate (haven't used them yet).

Ok, so I have tried about everything on every help forum I've read from here to knittingforums.com. I have disable all wake events, including the ones in regards to network adapters. I have disabled automatic restart, and even fooled around in the BIOS, disabling all wake events. I've even flipped around between BIOS commanded and OS commanded event wakes in the BIOS. About the only thing I can do is log off of my user account, and then do a hard shutdown. Even did the thing where you specifically set what the power button does.

So... please help! I will be most gracious, and will give any more information if necessary. The only thing I have NOT done is flash the BIOS; it won't recognize the USB device I have the updated drivers on.

Computer Won't Start
My problem is the system goes through regular BIOS Startup, and shows everything as working, then when it gets to the windows startup screen (where the 4 colored dots turn into the windows symbol), it does one of two things:

1. it just keeps waving there (you know how the colors kind of come out and in etc.)

2. it goes to a black screen, and none of my inputs work (ie. no keyboard mouse, ctrl+alt+del, anything)

The only way to get out of these two situations is to reset directly on the case.

Sometimes it will not go to the startup screen, and will give me the option of "launch startup repair" or "start windows normally". If I choose start windows normally, it goes to one of the top two problems, if i choose startup repair, it begins loading windows files, then the bar stops halfway (and doesnt move for over 8 hours).

The last thing i tried was starting from my windows 7 dvd, and that also begins loading files, then stops halfway.
