Task Bar On Top, Start Menu Is Always Full Screen Height
I prefer my Task Bar across the top of the screen, rather than at the bottom. I also like it to autohide. This is my preference.
This seems to work okay but for one thing. When I click the Start button the start menu expands to the full height of the screen, making the thing I'm most likely to want to click on ("All Programs") as far away from my mouse as is possible!
I've been told by various fanboys not to crave the Classic start menu any more, as clearly I am a dinosaur for wanting that. Fair enough, I'm trying to use what's given to me by Windows 7.
Is there a setting or trick that will allow my Start menu to be only as high as it needs to be? Even if it's only half the height of the screen that will be a relief.
And don't say I should move my Task Bar to the bottom, that's not gonna happen.

Black Menu Bar In Full Screen
I have a strange problem with the Windows 7 themes. When I use F11 to make an explorer window (both ie and file explorer), the top menu bar (or maybe title bar) becomes black. This does not happen with Firefox or if I change the theme to Windows Classic or Windows 7 Basic. I've looked for help everywhere, but not been able to find any. This is really annoying! I'll attach a screen shot to visualize my problem. Has anybody else experienced this behavior?

Desktop Display Not Extending Full Monitor Width/height
Just updated from Vista 64 to Windows7 64 build7100 . Using DellWFP 32" monitor and ATI v7200 video card. My desktop will not extend all the way left to right or top to bottom on my monitor. It has black bar around desktop extending to edges of monitor. When I set screen resolution to max 2560x1280 or recommended 1280x800 , then desktop goes full height and width of monitor. However these settings do not work for me at all. Any other resolution setting and desktop is centered on monitor, very small with black all around it. Here is image I took with my camera, as a screen shot only displays the desktop. This shows how the desktop is residing within the monitor. I've tried every resolution setting there is for this video card , checked to make sure I had the latest drivers also.

Black Screen - No Start Bar - No Icons
First I have read someone comments about issues regarding missing Start Bar issue however this one seems to be a little more challenging. I have been using Window 7 RC for approximately 6 weeks and everything was working (generally speaking very good). However, yesterday upon power-up I log on as usually and after the login I have a black screen, period. No Start Bar, No desktop icons, No Sidebar, just a black screen. Mouse right click does nothing, Ctrl Alt and Delete brings up Task Manager and from there I can run all programs without problems. This issue occur both in the Admin Account and the Guest Account. I can open the sidebar and then see the Icons however on a re-start I'm back to the black screen same issues. I have done another install of Windows 7 RC yesterday and again the same issues occur. I have completely Virus checked and Malware checking the machine prior to yesterday's install and found nothing abnormal. Whereas I have two montiors I 've checked out whether it maybe defaulted to the 2nd - Not - Re installed the Windows Graphic Drivers as well. I also tried system Restore before I re-installed windows 7 same result with the black screen.

Live Dual Programs On Task Bar
I do not like having my programs "group" themselves in the taskbar as I do not run 100 things at once. Since I turned off this option I now have (2) applications running when running Live Messenger. As seen in the picture the (2) programs are "linked" as one when you rollover and use AeroPeek. It appears the left side program is actually a Windows Live application of sorts...and the right side window is of course Live Messenger. I found this annoying personally and am wondering if A) Is it possible to have this go away via an option somewhere if not.... B) Is this a final design decision by MS relating to Windows 7? I think the concept of the windows live application being there for quick access to all things Passport is a good concept I just don't know/want that program cluttering my taskbar. Edit: I've found via another post running Messenger in compatility mode with older windows (Vista SP2) fixes the double programs issue..but still am curious is this dual program is a design choice or bug.

Adding Folder And Drive Shortcuts To Task Bar
On XP, I would put shortcuts to my different hard drives and folders on the taskbar for quick access. Seems like Windows 7 task bar doesn't let me do this and only allows me to put program files only (yes task bar is unlocked). is there a way to add hard drive and folder short cuts?

How Can I Place New Programs On The Start Bar ?
I'm trying to figure this out. I use programs that are not on my local disc, but on a network, on windows servers. I created a shortcut and placed it on my desktop, but now I wan't to have those next to the start button. I am unable to drag them to there, because a red symbol shows up that contains a round and a line through it. When I open the program i normally see "Pin to start menu", but not with this. It only gives me the option to close it.

Can't Search Programs In The Start Bar
I recently installed windows 7, and it generally runs great, but... apparently there is supposed to be a little search bar in the start menu so when you click start you can just start typing to search for a program... but mine doesn't seem to exist. Where can I enable it?

Do you now have 2x notepad on the startbar like me or does it combine into one ?? Turn Off Auto Maximize Screen When Dragging Screen To Top Of Screen
Trying to Find a way to turn off the Auto Maximize Screen when you drag it to the top, this option is making it so I cannot play EVE Online with windowed mode and moving the top part of the screen flush with the actual screen, allowing me to not see the window options. I.e. Minimize, Maximize and Close and the bar up top. How do I turn this feature off?

Remote Desktop Full Screen Mode Not Going Full Screen
Running Windows 7 RTM x64 on both my PC at home and my workstation at work.My PC at home has a square monitor and my work PC has a widescreen monitor.I used webapps (citrix) from home to get into work environment then remoted to my workstation.Since doing that, when I am physically at the workstation (at work), I can no longer remote desktop to servers in full screen mode. Instead, it does a smaller window with "full screen settings". Basically the full screen remote desktop is about 3/4 size of the monitor, not 100%.

Bug: Drag And Auto Snapping Function Snapp Top Of Screen Left On Screen
I love the funtion when i drag a window by clicking with the mouse on the top of the window and then drag the window to the left side (or right side) of the screen its snaps to it and makes its easy the window to become half of my screen. But here is the bug that i found, after i snapped it to the left side of the screen and want to snapp it to full screen, i cant just pull the window from the top of the window and go up with the mouse to the top of the screen and its maximized, i need to start dragging the window and then pull the window down just a little bit then i can drag it to the top of the screen for it to be maximized.. I think it would be better if i can just directly snapp it to full screen by clicking on the top of the window then pulling strait up then its already snapped on maximized screen position. But keeping the size of the window if i just drag the window to the right like it is now,..

Cool Toolbar On Top Of Screen
Been testing Windows 7 since yesterday on 2 PCs and I admit they run as smoothly as no other Beta so far...I'd give Windows 7 to be the best release after XP, but I guess time will tell. Anyways, I got a question...I've been seeing this nice toolbar on top of the screen on some screenshots of yours, does anybody know what it is and where I can find it? I'm submitting a picture with a small, discreet arrow pointing at what I mean exactly. Any ideas?

Top Of Screen Not Fully Open
I noticed that after I downloaded an extra Google search gadget that my desktop has changed. My search engines and photos are leaving a small gap on top of the screen, and the the task bar hides and goes away. I did a system restore but nothing changed. It is driving me nuts. I have uninstalled the Google gadget, but no difference.

Adding A Toolbar To The Top Of The Screen
I just installed windows 7. In vista, xp and windows 2000 I added a second tool bar to the top of the screen which had all my quick launch icons and an address bar for quick website entry. In XP I could create a bar at the top of the screen by pulling the quick launch or address bar out of the task bar and then placing it at the top of the screen. In vista I could create a bar at the top of the screen by dragging a folder to the top of the screen for a second. Window 7 removed both of these methods. Can I get it back? If not, this is a deal breaker and windows 7 is garbage. Example Triple monitor setup with secondary toolbars at the top of the screen in vista:
