Status Bar Disappears After Monitor Is Off

When my computer, Win7 RC x64, comes back from sleep or monitor was powered off the status bar disappears. The only thing that I can see is the start button. I have to restart or log off to get it back. Any idea?

Explorer 8 Status Bar
I was trying to find out the meaning of the messages that appear on the lower left of the Internet Explorer 8 windows (in the status bar). I was visiting a site (pcguide.com) and I got a weird icon in that spot. I am worried I might have picked up a nasty bug from that site, because I had a hard time closing it (windows kept popping up).

File Explorer Status Bar Lost Important Size/space Info From WinXP
The Status Bar no longer shows the total size of all the files within the folder/drive you're in.
It also does not show how much free space you have.

When multiple files are selected, the total size is not displayed.

These features should also be included in the Details Pane, so we can use that or the Status Bar.

Status Bar right now is pretty much useless, it only shows how many items the container has.

Epson 880 Status Monitor
The Status Monitor that monitors Ink Levels & Print Progress in Windows 7 does not work. I've looked in Program Files, Windows & System32 and can't find the application. The printer drivers work so printing is OK. Anyone know where this application may be so I can change Compatability to see if it works using another operating system?

Canon Pixma Printer Status Monitor
I have Windows 7 (7000) installed. Everything working except Windows 7 did not recognize my Canon Pixma iP8500 printer. OK under Vista. I manually selected a driver for Canon Pixma Pro 9500 and then re-configured the printer as an 8500 via the "advanced" tab in printer properties. Printing seems to be OK, but the Canon status monitor application can't seem to talk to the printer over the USB interface. Any ideas?

Taskbar Disappears When Monitor Turns Off
On my laptop, whenever the monitor turns off (and sometimes when I put the computer to sleep manually), the entire taskbar disappears, leaving only the the orb. Back in the beta version, I only had to toggle the auto-hide option on and off again, and it would come back. Now, in the RC version, that doesn't work for me anymore, and moving the taskbar around doesn't work either. Any ideas?

Mouse Status
Windows 7 RC - My mouse status remains in a Busy mode, but functions normally as a pointer. To correct, I need to change status to pointer, then functions as pointer until either taken out of hibernation or new boot sequence. Is this a bug?

Backup Misreporting Status
I just tried the new Windows Backup program today and found it to be extremely easy to use.  My problem with it, is that it's reporting that my backup did not complete successfully, when, as far as I can tell, it backed up just fine. What's going on here is that I let Windows back up my computer using system defaults.

Using defaults means that all Libraries are backed up.  One of the libraries that I created includes two folders on my D drive.  When backing up to drive D, these two folders in the library weren't backed up (a smart move if you ask me - the data's already on drive D, it doesn't need to be backed up to drive D).

The problem is that Windows is now reporting failure for my Backup - specifically "Your last backup did not complete successfully.  Your files have not been backed up."This is more of a discussion on why, when following what it says in the wizard (it won't back up files already located on the backup device), would Backup report failure?

Network Icon Status
The reason for my post is that the status indication is all screwed up on one the two clients I upgraded from XP to W7.

One client has a yellow exclamation mark and indicates there is no Internet. There is of course.
The other client does not have the exclamation mark and indicates there is Internet.

Both clients are connected to Small Business Server 2003 SP1!

I also am in support of having the netwerk icon be an indicator of traffic moving through.

Status Of Key After Upgrade
I have a series of questions:

1. if I have win2000 and upgrade version of XP, then do I upgrade using XP Upgrade licence, or Win2000 licence?

2. Suppose I have win2000 on my desktop and XP upgrade on my laptop - but laptop was upgraded with the same win2000 licence being used on desktop (didn't know that was against EULA... thought upgrades were just MS being nice to loyal customers), then could I purchase 2 Windows 7 Upgrades and install it on each? Or would activation fail because XP upgrade was using win2000 key that was already used for another Win 7 upgrade?

3. Once I upgrade to Win 7, then my keys for Win2000 and XP won't be valid anymore, correct? Does that mean that my Windows 7 Upgrade key will become Full edition key and be able to install it clean in the future?

4. if the answer to question 3 is false, then how would I reinstall Windows 7 in the future, after my computer gets infected by virus or something? Presumably I can't reinstall XP or win2000 because their keys aren't valid anymore?

Dynamic Disk Status Errors
After dual booting my drive, it was suddenly changed to an offline dynamic disk. My problem is, I can turn it back online, but it gives me the status of "errors" I checked around for the past 12 hours, and everything says the same thing, turn it back online (it is) Reactivate it (That command is grayed out) Use Dynamic disk converter 2.1 (Says offline even though CMD says it is online)

Now, I am a bit frustrated, after 6 hours or so, my entire PC crashed, I did nothing special to cause this but hey it did. When I would boot up it would give "error loading OS" I checked all my drives, they're working PERFECTLY fine so I have no idea what is causing this. After I inserted my Windows 7 CD it seems to boot up fine now. I have two separate drives, one to handle my main OS being Windows 7 and the other to handle all my media which is the one that I cannot access anymore.

After reading dozens of articles I cannot find any solid answer that work for my case.

I am using the Windows 7 disk manager not a third party program, also, I have read all the 'help' from the microsoft website there is to deal with this problem. But nothing seems to work.

To help literate a bit more this is what my Disk Manager looks like:

Disk 0 Primary partition
Basic
38 GB
Online

Disk 1
Dynamic

errors

When right clicked on Disk 1 everything is Grayed out except properties, help, and Offline.

I don't know if any of this information will be of any help, I am trying to literate as much as I possibly can and give any evidence that might help.

Anyways, this entire thing has given me a huge headache and I have a huge term paper due x_x...

Network Icon Status Not Accurate
I have a simple home network, with one physical NIC connected to my D-Link router. However, I have VMware workstation 6.5.1 which installs a couple of virtual NICs to support VMs. Under Vista the computer network icon in the system tray would show the world globe, denoting full Internet access, which made perfect sense.

Under W7 I no longer get the globe and just see a white Ethernet cable next to the monitor icon. If I hover over the computer icon I get:

Network
Local and internet access

Unidentified Network
Limited Connectivity

It seems MS changed the health status logic and even if one network has full Internet access, you don't get the world globe. Personally I like the Vista behavior more because I can immediately tell if I've lost Internet access without the need to hover.

MS, please reconsider and change the connectivity status back to how it is in Vista (I never thought I'd say that!).

Status Backup Canceled After Image Restore
Today, this morning, I did a system image restore, just to test if it works.

The system image was included in the backup of yesterday, 11/5/2009.

The image restore went smooth, Windows 7 is correctly restored and is running like it always did.

One thing I do not understand, the status of the backup is The last backup was canceled, and also the size of the backup is Not available

I hope someone can explain why this is?

Status Code 13 Connecting To A DI-524 Dlink Router
I'm having a strange issue with my Windows 7 Lenovo S10 netbook and a friends WEP enabled router. I am able to connect to my home network wr54g linksys on WPA and at the office there's a guest network running (oddly) a 104bit WEP that I can use. However at my friends house I was trying to connect to his DI-524 Dlink router and recevied some very strange (to me) messages.

I'm wondering if Windows 7 has some kind of issue with older versions of WEP and possibly lower encryption? Potentially could it be simply that if we kick up the encryption it will work? I'm fairly confident that if I convince him to kick it to WPA it will work - but where's the fun in that.

Mouse Pointer Disappears
Don't know whether anyone else has had this problem but my mouse pointer disappears in Media Center.

It never used to, this problem only started over the last few days.

I have a Roccat Kone mouse and I know that Windows 7 doesn't like it. I've had to download a fresh driver for each of the many builds I've installed over the last 6 months i.e. it won't install a stored driver.

Anyway. I can't think why this should have suddenly started. I've not installed anything new.

It makes Media Center virtually impossible to use for watching TV, using the guide etc.

Desktop Disappears / Freeze
Turn on monitor & all looks normal but when I try to open a program like ie or others in the start menu nothing happens( start menu does open & so does control panel). If I go to shutdown in start menu everything on the desktop disappears but it dosen't shut down.

So, I try crtl-alt-del & nothing happens again, crtl-alt-del doesn't work prior to clicking shutdwn. Have to hit reset buttton. This happened with vista also, wondering if Windows 7 has inherited this problem from vista?

Printer Disappears After Hibernation
When my computer wakes from hybernation when using Win 7 Pro and Ultimate, my network printer (HP Officejet Pro 8500) periodically disappears from the "Devices and Printers". I'm using a HP laptop. Here's what happened: I shut down my computer and went to a client's site. I connected to their network wirelessly. When I left their site, I put the computer into hibernation. I connected it to my network (wired) and woke the computer from hibernation.

My Officejet printer was missing. The Officejet FAX device was still there. When I previously had this problem (using Ultimate on a different laptop), once the printer disappeared, it started disappearing more frequently. Even when I was shutting down the computer. The solution was to rebuild the computer.  (I'm going to try to do a system restore).

Realtek LAN Driver Disappears
For the most part Windows 7 has been running ok so far on my computer. The only issue that has me puzzled is my Realtek RTL8168C(P)8111C(P) Family PCI-E GBE NIC (onboard) just disappears after a reboot or a shutdown. I have to power the system totally down just to get it back.

I have updated to the lastest driver ( 1/20/2009 from Realtek.) Windows update tells me I have the latest driver installed. I also have tried disabling the power managemant and the driver still "disappeared" in Device Manager. I have IPV6 disabled as well.

Since my computer is fairly new and Vista Ready.. I thought I would try the driver that came on the motherboard install CD and same result. I am using a linksys USB wireless adapter and suprisingly it has proven to be more stable then my onboard Realtek. Not a major issue just a puzzle I would like to solve.
