Service Difference Between XP, Vista, Win7 - Error 1053
We're testing out Windows 7 and it looks like some of our software that works on XP (64 bit) doesn't run properly on Vista or 7 (64 bit). In particular, several services are returning a 1053 error when I try to start them. I looked into it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839174
The difference however is that it's not a timeout - the error occurs instantly when trying to start the service. I installed and updated .NET 1.1 as a suggestion to solve the problem, but it didn't do anything. I also tried to run the service executables and the program executables in compatibility mode (XP SP3), to no avail. This leads me to believe that there are some fundamental differences in how services are handled in XP, Vista, and 7.
Can anyone explain what these differences are and what possible steps I can take to get our software running on 7?

Unexpected Error During Vista To Win7 Upgrade
I got Windows 7 for Christmas yesterday, so I was all excited and started to install it last night. I did the compatibility checker and there were no major issues, just some minor ones that seemed innocuous, so I proceeded. The install process was pretty seamless until I got to a point about 3/4ths through where an error message popped up. You guys are probably familiar with this so far. The message says an unexpected error has occurred.. etc, etc. When I restart my computer, I get the same thing. When I boot from the install disk, it asks me to pick a language to install and all that, but when I choose to install Windows 7 it tells me it cannot find drivers or something to that effect, and there's a choice to browse or cancel. It appears I'm caught in between Vista and Windows 7 and neither of them are useable. I can't get to either of them. The Roll Back option simply doesn't work, for whatever reason, and here I am, caught in Windows Purgatory. Any help would be very appreciated. Keep in mind I am on a laptop, not my desktop which is experiencing these issues.

Win7 + Vista X64 Dualboot Inst.error
I´am using Windows 7 X64 b7057 primary on C: (second partition D: for data). I tried to intall Vista 64bit for dualboot, but after GUI of installing Vista finished and FIRST restarted an error black screen appeared after dual b. selection, when I select Vista: failed to start windowssystem32winload.exe status: 0xc000000d And nothing helped /tried to repair from Vista DVD/. I installed Vista to a partition created on the same HDD as Windows 7 as a "logical" (it shows Windows 7) with 33GB free space /I think it should be enough/. So the intaller of Vista didn´t finished installing Vista. Any idea how to fix it? I read some articles about EasyBCD,etc but I´am not shure if my problem can be fixed with there utils. Can I install WinVista to a "logical" partiotion? /win 7 is on "primary"/

Dual Boot - Vista 64 / Win7 64 - Winload.exe Error
I have 3 hdd's. 1 x 160GB (SATA) - Partition: ~149GB - Win Vista64 1 x 300GB (SATA) - Partition: ~220GB - MISC - Partition: ~58.5GB - Windows 7 64 1x 1TB (SATA) - Partition: ~931GB - Games I ended up taking my 300GB drive, created a logical partition, then booted into the Windows 7 dvd I have. (win 7 - 7100?, straight off ms) Firstly, it takes about a couple minutes just to load the files. Then once it finally gets to the splash* screen and the cursor appears.....it takes about 5-10minutes for the "install" window to appear which seems VERY odd since my machine is VERY fast. It takes quite a bit of time to accomplish installing from loading to finished (40minutes maybe)... After everything installs when I go to choose the Windows 7 option on the boot menu, I get this black SOD Windowssystem32winloader.exe error 0xc000000D Something about the file being missing or corrupt. I took my Windows 7 disk, and entered command prompt through recovery tools (which takes at least 5 minutes due to loading time to get to each time). I ran DISKPART, then did LIST VOL, so it would tell me the partitions and letters. Then I took another window, and entered bcdedit. The letters matched up with the partition letters and the file DOES exist. I've tried 3 different sources on 3 different DVD's to see if perhaps I had a bad image (1 x microsoft/2 x torrent), but that's not the case. I've tried setting the path's again through bcdedit to make sure there was no data corruption in the settings, and that was not successful either... So when I need to figure is out why it tells me the file "winloader.exe" is missing or corrupt, when in fact it is pointing to the right harddrive, on the right partition, on the right location. Yes, they all show up on the BIOS post, yes it recognizes the 300GB drive in the setup without extra drivers. The only hdd it needs extra drivers for to see is my 1TB, but I'm not using that for the Windows 7 installation.

Win 7 Doesn't Register With KMS Service - Error DNS
When installing windows 7 doesn't register with KMS service. Gives error DNS name not found while Vista do register. The KMS service is installed on a Server 2003 SP2. Everything I have been able to check regarding the DNS seems to be ok. Vista workstations register nicely, but Windows 7 does not. Everything seems to be ok with the DNS, but the KMS service doesn't log any registration quests from windows 7 systems.Did run /skms nameofdns.domain on W7 client. This produced the result that Win7 does not activate with the error code 0xC004F074 instead, ie that the KMS service can't be contacted. I can neither find any loggings of the W7 registration attempt on the KMS host, but Vista workstations do register as they are intended to do, ie the W7 registration key must have registered correctly with teh KMS, otherwise the Vista clients would fail, too.

Vista Ultimate To Win7 Ultimate RTM Upgrade: Incompatible App Removal Error
Disk copy of Vista Ultimate used for upgrade attempt. First upgrade attempt identified several issues with apps needing to be uninstalled. First removed Trend Micro Internet Security 2008, but deferred reboot to complete, until rest of problem apps were uninstalled. After reboot, restarted upgrade install with check compatability online test (Win7 Upgrade Advistor Beta) - no problems found. Then, "install now" option taken: completed temp file copy, setup started, accepted option for "go online for latest updates...", accepted license terms, then, very quickly received the following "Check Compatability" errors: Windows needs to be restarted so necessary changes to system files can be made before continuing. For these items, make the following changes: Uninstall these programs. Open Control Panel and search for "uninstall a program". Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 - Examination of registry and installed programs and features list shows no sign of uninstalled app.

Removing Vista From Dual Boot - Vista On C: And Win7 On D:
I installed Windows7 as a dual boot on a Vista computer. Windows7 is the default operating system because it is listed first in the boot menu & launches automatically after 30 seconds. I realized that everything in Windows 7 is installing under D:etc. When I remove Vista & revert to one larger partition what will happen to all the installed programs that have a path to D:? Won't the one drive become C:|? When installing Windows 7, I deliberately created a partition at the front of the drive & moved Vista to the 2nd partition assuming that whichever OS I booted into, it would use C: as the letter for their individual partition.

Upgraded Vista Ultimate To Win7 Ultimate RTM Ok, But Boot Screen Is Still Vista's
I got my copy of Win & Ultimate and a legal key from TechNet, did an upgrade of my Vista Ultimate computer. All went well and other than my new copy of Norton Internet Security 2009 not working (long story for another thread). The problem I'm having is that the boot screen (Starting Windows with the 4 colored balls and the windows logo) did not change, I still have the old Vista one with the boring green progress bar. I never dual booted this system and I have tried the fixes out on the net - using an administrator command prompt to send: bcdedit /set {current} locale en-US or bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US Neither one worked. This is not a fatal flaw, but it is annoying in an otherwise perfect upgrade. Is there a registry setting I can change or another fix to try for this? It used to be easy to change the boot screen in XP and not too hard in Vista, how do I get my correct boot screen back in Windows 7?

Difference Between US And EU Hardware
just wondered if theres any difference between hardware bought from the US and their EU equivalents. this is specific to RAM and Graphics Cards, but other info would be much appreciated also. EDIT: Lets make this a multi subject thread. This here is my upgrade list: Processor: AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition Deneb 3.0ghz AM2+ RAM: 2x2 240pin 1066 (havent chosen a particular brand yet) Graphics: HiS ATI Radeon HD4870 1GB Crossfire Ready (if i have enough to get 2 at the same time...) Mobo: ASUS M3A79-T Delux A black suit. Parts kept: PSU : 700W something. HDD : 350GB 7200 samsung something Optical drives : CD/DVD burner, DVD player, multi card reader Case: Xclio something something. My main query is related to wether if i get certain products from the us (gfx and ram, prolly the processor too) do they differ from the EU versions? is there a reason why the UK seems hellbound on overcharging me? ALSO im looking on advice for Mobo and Ram, since I dont REALLY know enough about them/various companies to make an edumacated guess.
