Generic USB Keyboard Driver Issue After Screen Lock Or Sleep
The generic HID keyboard driver in Windows 7 seems to be broken. After sending the system into sleep mode or letting it lock the screen, my keyboard will stop working properly. It's a generic USB keyboard which has always worked on every other OS without added drivers. I've used the keyboard with various flavours of Linux and Windows.

Post screenlock/sleep under Windows 7 certain keys will suddenly start enter extra characters ex. typing an "a" will enter the chars "as", "q" will enter "qw", "@" will enter "!@".

The duplicate keys seem to always be horizontally close to each other on the keyboard i.e. for "a" generating "as", "a" and "s" are right next to each other on my keyboard.

This completely confuses the user because the only hint they have anything wrong is the login prompt refuses their password if it happens to contain one of the keys entering extra characters. The only work around I've found is pulling the USB cable for the keyboard and replugging it in will reset the keyboard/driver and keys will work properly again.

Does anyone how I can fix Windows 7? (I'm not interested in replacing a perfectly good keyboard.)

I'm running the x86_64 build of Windows 7 RC on an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 using an i7 920.

Screen Resolution On Hanns G HG281D Monitor
however Acer F-22 monitor has full resolution choices up to 1920x1200, Nividia 7950 gt ko graphics card, W7 x64.  I have tried everything I can think of to troubleshoot this problem alas to no avail.  I am able to run dual monitors, and extend the F22 (running at 1680x1050-native), but max resolution on HannsG is only 1024x768.

I can run both monitors in clone mode, but forces F22 to run at 1024x768 as well!  I have updated all of the devices drivers to the proper recommended versions for W7x64...and nothing.  I have called Hanns G customer service daily for a week, checking in to see if any new "solution" is available or even known about-nothing.

(Hanns G customer service was attentive, understanding, american located (and no trouble "understanding speech"....hear that HP!?).

But here I am with an awesome monitor that is not able to dazzle, and captivate like it had the three months prior to installing W7, when running Vista home premium x64.

Forgot to mention, I had been not getting any signal on the HannsG monitor at all, until driver updates from Nvidia for w7 x64 build 7100.  Now just experiencing screen resolution "cap" from the Hanns G 28" monitor.

My Monitor Gets Reset To Generic PnP Monitor
I am running Windows 7 using a Nvidia GeForce 7200 GS video card. After every time the computer goes to sleep, it loses its display settings for my monitor (a ViewSonic G22fb CRT), and resets to the default Generic PnP monitor.

To return to my display settings, I need to go to the control panel, adjust resolution, and click on the "detect" button.  After that, the computer recognizes my Viewsonic G220fb again, and returns the display settings, including resolution to my adjusted settings.

Monitor Is NOT A Generic Non-pnp
I have a Samsung 191T 19" monitor that has a native resolution of 1280 x 1024. Vista Ultimate and Win7 Beta recognized this, but the RC does not and insists it is a Generic non-pnp monitor, and thus limits the resolution to 800 x 600, 1024, 768 and 1280 x 720. I have tried all versions of nvidia's drivers from 181 up to the current 190.xx for my 9800 GTX+ video card.

Everything else is as up to date as I can get it. I am running Win 7 x64 and using the nvidia x64 drivers. I cannot change the resolution to the native 1280 x 1024 with either the windows CP or the nvidia one. How can I get this monitor to be recognized, or at least use 1280 x 1024? I tried to install the 191T drivers from xp but they weren't recognized by the install drivers exe.

Generic PnP Monitor Flapping
The Generic PnP Monitor driver is flapping like there is something wrong with the monitor. It keeps trying to redisover the monitor and blanks out the screen every 30 seconds or so. Very irritating. I am running a Westinghouse LCM-22w3 22" HD monitor through a Belkin KVM Switch. This does not occur on my XP machine or my Linux server only Windows 7.

Generic Non-PnP Monitor On Startup
Small startup issue. When I get to the login screen, the resolution has defaulted to 1024x768.  After I login, I modify the screen resolution by clicking the Detect button on the Screen Resolution page.

The Detect button picks up my monitor name (KDS Visual Sensations VS-190i) and resets the screen resolution to 1280x1024.  The monitor runs on a Nvidia GeForce 5500 FX AGP card with Vista drivers.  The video card information is known by the system at startup.  Then when I restart the computer the monitor resolution is back to 1024x768 and Generic Non-PnP Monitor.

I've tried to update the monitor driver, but to no avail.

Generic PnP Monitor (yet Video Card Knows What It Is)
Win 7 detects my Mitsubishi 930SB monitor as a "Generic PnP Monitor" instead of properly identifying the monitor. The video card knows exactly what the monitor is. Vista .inf drivers can't be used with Win 7 to inform the OS as to what the hardware is when attempting to update driver or install hardware. Same problem with a Linksys USB Ethernet adapter. Any way around the problem?

Generic Pnp Monitor - Low Refresh Rate
new to the forum and new to Windows 7 and new to laptops so please be patient.

I bought a lenovo g550 laptop a few weeks ago.

it came with Windows 7, I have downloaded all the relevant Lenovo drivers and updates

and installed all of them!

My problem is that Windows 7 recognizes the screen as generic pnp monitor and doesn't let me change the refresh rate above or beneath 60hz.

My screen is flickering in the background and it is annoying as hell!!

is it because of the refresh rate or is it something else?

I cant find drivers for the screen anywhere !!!

Generic Non-PnP Monitor On Standard VGA Graphic Adapter
OK as Ive been looking around the site Ive noticed that there are many issues like this one, and Im sure there are plenty of people out there that have this problem.

My "Windows Experience Index" is at a 1.0 only because my Graphics, and Gaming Graphics rating are at 1.0. Everything else is at 5.9 which I can live with.

When I look at my adavanced settings for my monitor it Shows my Nvidia GPU but only running with 14 MB total avail mem. And I know that NOT right. Unfortunatly when I went to Nvidia's site and ran the auto detect it said that I didnt even have their product and that I had the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

I can't seem to find the right drivers for this to fix it all, and I would love to be able to "Experience" Windows 7 at its fullest. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully the attached photos will give you an idea as to what Im working with. Also When i toubleshoot Aero Ive received this message:

"The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDDM-compatible driver."

And when I try to change my screensaver to a 3D one it states that I either need a newer graphics card or one that is compatible with Direct3D.

Ghost Generic Non Pnp Monitor Installed On GeForce 8800GT Issue
Every time I install NVIDIA's drivers past 182.50 (which I believe is when they started making them officially compatible with Windows 7), my computer thinks it has another monitor installed, which it considers a generic non-pnp monitor. This happens either on Windows Vista or Windows 7.

So every time I install a Windows 7 compatible driver, Windows thinks that a generic non-pnp monitor is now plugged into the primary output of my graphics card, overriding any monitor that was previously plugged into it.

Even if I reboot with a monitor plugged in, Windows still thinks that there's some ghost monitor hardwired to that port. I can plug my monitor into the secondary output, work with the settings, and go off like nothing happened, but I can't see POST and boot stuff then. I can try and uninstalling the ghost monitor, but it just comes right back and the graphics card seems to refuse to not see it.

Warning: Generic 64bit Driver Made Win7 Unrecoverable
Just wanted to warn other 64bit Win7 users. I have a couple of legacy 32bit PCI cards in my computer for which there are no 64bit drivers available. The 32bit drivers didn't work, so I searched online for some Vista64 compatible drivers. The only ones I could fine were "generic".I went into the Device Manager and set my hardware to use the generic drivers, which Win7 accepted.

I then tried to install the software to use them. Upon rebooting, Windows7 said it needed to "Repair" my installattion. The system sat & sat for 20 minutes with no sign of disk activity before I finally gave up. I then tried the Win7 install DVD, which did the same thing.I eventually had to reinstall Win7 again.

While it "copied" my personal files and Windows installation to a folder called "Windows.old", I had to re-setup my installation from scratch, re-installing all my programs, reinstalling the drivers I knew worked, and re-setting my preferences from scratch.Beware installing any driver not from the manufacturer. Hopefully, MS will add "32bit driver" support to 64bit Win7.

Monitor Problems / Resolution
I have a dual monitor setup running from a GeForce 8800GT.  My primary monitor is a 19" viewsonic CRT and my second monitor is a 17" Samsung CRT both using the DVI->VGA dongles.  Previous to installing Windows 7 x64, I was running Vista x64 and was able to set my Samsung monitor to a resolution of 1152x864 at 75Hz.  However, now I simply cannot.

If I set the resolution to 1152x864, Windows forces down the refresh rate to 60Hz and I can't seem to find a work around.  I've updated the nVidia drivers to the newest version, 186.18 as of this posting, but to no avail.  Any ideas what changed between Vista x64 and 7 x64?

I'm also encountering issues with which monitor is the primary desktop and which is the extension when resuming from sleep.  They sometimes flip flop on me when I wake the computer from a sleep and the resolutions are all changed as well.  Occassionally clicking the "Detect" button in the Screen resolution menu will fix the issue.  Other times, I need to reboot.  Anyone else seeing this issue?

Incorrect Resolution On Monitor
I am using a kvm switch to work between two computers. One is running Vista and the other runs Windows 7.  Both use the same monitor.  The correct resolution for the monitor is 1280x960.  That works well when I am running the Vista pc. That monitor driver is listed as 6.0.6001.18000 from 6/21/2006.

When I switch to the Windows 7 pc, the resolution is set to 1280x1024.  When I try to change the resolution, 1280x960 is not listed as an option.  It goes from 1280x1024 to 1280x768. The monitor driver in Windows 7 (the same monitor) is listed as 6.1.7100.0 from 6/21/2006.

The monitor  is a Samsung 932B.  I'm not sure how to go about fixing this, but I plan on switching to Windows 7 as soon as possible and hope to have the problem resolved by then.

Monitor And Resolution Reset On Startup
I've got Windows 7 Ultimate (x64), my graphics card is an ATi 4670HD and my widescreen monitor is a 22inch Samsung SyncMaster 225MW.

Everything looks and works perfect. When I go to display, I click detect, and ofcourse it finds my monitor and sets it to its native resolutiob (1680*1050.)

But when I restart my computer, it will be set back to 1024*768 and it will be listed as the generic monitor.

The latest ATi drivers are installed on a fresh copy of Windows 7 and there were no hitches at all. Also to add, I've got 2 seperate DVI cables used to make sure the cable wasn't at fault and they both give me the same result.

What is the problem? This is one I can't quite get my head around.

Resolution Not Sticking On LCD Monitor
Grandma's computer - trying to troubleshoot from Chicago for a computer located in California. About to kill myself. Please help.

Graphics card on computer is an integrated Intel G33/G31 Express Chipset Family adapter. I purchased a VGA splitter so that she can connect it to her LCD monitor and Plasma TV.

The monitor's native resolution is 1680 x 1050. HDTV is 1280 x 768.

My grandma complained that the resolution was messed up (I later learned that it was set to 800 x 600). I asked her to set the resolution to 1680 x 1050, but when she does, she gets the message that "the current input timing is not supported by the monitor display." I checked the refresh rate -- it was set to 60hz. None of the other 1.6 ratio resolutions would even show up on the available list of resolutions.

I had her plug the LCD monitor directly into the computer (sans splitter). No error message. The resolution stuck right away.

So, how do I use this splitter and still get 1680 x 1050 on her LCD? I don't even want to know what will happen to the TV's resolution when we do this, but I can pray.

Monitor Resolution Options Incorrect
I recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and everything went flawlessly, but I am only allowed to run the monitor as a Generic Non-PnP Monitor.  (Vista and XP always recognized it as a Westinghouse LCM-22w3)  I am only allowed up to 1440x900 resolution. ( Although 1680x2100 appears on the resolution drop down)

this is a Compaq SR5710y with GeForce 6150SE nForce430 on board video.  I have been to the Nvidia site and installed 3 levels back of drivers, per suggestions to no avail.  I have also picked up GeForce 7200GS and installed, but get the same results.  I have looked at many forums, seeing this issues, but they all point to drivers.  Changing drivers for both the onboard graphics and the PC Express card contiue to provide the same results.....

Monitor Not Displaying Native Resolution
I'm having trouble getting my monitor to display at its maximum resolution and I cannot for the life of me figure out what's wrong.

I have an ASUS VH242H 23.6" Monitor which has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080. I originally had windows xp and it could display this resolution just fine. Now, after installing windows 7, when I hook the monitor up to my laptop, I can only get it to display up 1400x1200. Going past this point causes the monitor to flas an out of range message. Furthermore, my computer won't let me designate the refresh rate as far as I can tell. I updated the driver for my graphics card and that didn't seem to make a difference.

I have an HP nw8440 Mobile Workstation with a ATI FireGL v5200 GPU.
