Samsung HM080II Usb Hard Disk Issue
I have a Samsung HM080II usb portable hard drive (80gb capacity). In can be detected and installed using Windows 7, but not all files are accessible. Some files are only accessible.

Copying Large Files To USB Stick Or USB Hard Disk
I have a problem with Windows 7 RTM and copying to a USB device. All devices are correctly detected by Windows 7. When I start a copy of some small files, normally this works. However, when I want to copy some large files (500 MB - 2 GB), Explorer will "freeze" and after a while Windows becomes unresponsive, I can only do a reset of my machine. THis happsn both on usb sticks or usb harddisks. On Vista, these devices work perfectly. The other way works, so when I want to copy something from an USB device to my pc it works. Also copying between internal harddrives does'nt give an issue.What can be the cause? I tried removing the usb host / hub devices from Windows, so that these would be reïnstalled. I also removed Antivirus software. Further more, I reformated the usb sticks and hard drives without luck.

Installing Win 7 From A USB Hard Disk
if I asume that a machine can boot from a USB harddisk, is there a way to install windows 7 from a USB harddisk without having to format my USB Hardisk? I read a tutorial for installing windows 7 from a USB Key, and I assume it works with a USB Hardisk too, but since the drive size is 250GB it would be crazy to format all of that to create the ISO image. would it be possible to create let's say a small 4 GB partition and make it active/primary and write the ISO to that partition, and boot from it?

Can I Install Win7 On A New Hard Disk Using A Upgrade Disk ?
I have few questions on Windows 7 Upgrade. Currently I'm using windows vista home premium 64 bit and I bought an windows 7 home premium 64 bit upgrade disk. first thing is I want to format my previous operating system and all the data in my laptop and install windows 7 in it using the Upgrade disk. second thing is I don't have my vista installation disk with, my laptop was pre-installed with vista so in future if I want to switch can I get back VISTA using system restore. third is can i install windows 7 on a new hard disk using a windows 7 Upgrade disk?

Win 7 On Disk 1 (internal), Vista Ultimate On Disk 2 (ext USB)
Installed Win 7 on fresh SATA internal HDD on Thinkpad T60 (very impressed especially for beta) and attempting to access the previous Vista SATA HDD via USB drive enclosure. HDD appears in Dev Mgr but not in Explorer. Disk Manager will show the drive but prompts to initialize the disk (see image below). Two concerns - this drive has existing data on it and do not want to format drive and lose it and second disk is a functioning Vista drive (I can remove disk from enclosure, reads to notebook and boot). Hard Drive Speed - Samsung Spinpoint
I have just put together a new PC and have 2 Samsung Spinpoint (sata300) hard disks installed. I have had a look at Windows 7 performance utility and although all the other components rate very well, the disk data transfer rate is the same as my previous PC. Very disappointing to say the least. I have an Asus P7P55 motherboard with 4Go RAM. Am I to believe this low rating (5.9) or is it not very reliable? If it is, do I need to tweak something?

Hard Disk Corruption Errors
I have just installed Windows 7 as dual boot with XP, but continually end up with corrupt hard drive. For several months, I had the beta installed with no problems, then this waw replaced with the RC1, again no problems until recently, when after installing some incompatible software in error, I started getting problems. I ended up re-formatting the partition and leaving it blank until the Windows 7 DVD became available. This too is causing problems and yet had no problem when Vista was installed. Currently, XP is in C: drive, W7 in G: Drive, and a third partition- E: Drive contains data. The three partitions were created with Acronis Disk Director. I am continually running chkdsk and that resolves the issue for a short while, then I once again get messages saying the hard disk is corrupt.

SCSI Hard Disk Compatibility
I have a bit of a problem with my PC. The system has a SATA primary hard disk dual booting between Windows 7 RC 64bit and (real) Windows XP 32 bit. In addition I have an Adaptec 29320 SCSI card with two old SCSI2 drives (320mb & 2GB) an Ultra2Wide drive (18gb) and an Ultra320 drive (147gb). The SCSI2 drives are on the standard 50 pin bus along with a SCSI CDRom and SCSI ZIP drive and the Ultra2Wide is on the 68 pin section of the same bus, whilst the U320 drive is on the LVD bus. The three older drives and the SATA drive work perfectly, but there is something strange with the Ultra320 drive, a Fujitsu MAW3147NP. Under Windows XP the drive works perfectly, no matter how its partitioned, formatted or otherwise used. However, when running Windows 7 I get frequent SCSI bus resets when trying to use the drive, and it makes no difference how I partition it. I can usually get it to start on reset cycles by running a disk check or trying to read or write large amounts of data (a couple of GB is usually enough). Sometimes the resets go on for a few minutes, then stop, and I am able to carry on, other times the bus just keeps resetting and the only way out is to shut down Windows. Even then I have to wait for an idle period between the resets where the SATA drive isn't being written to and reach for the reset button. I have tried reconfiguring the drives so that the two 68 pin drives are on the same cable using the LVD or standard bus connections, I've tried various partitioning arrangements and disk formats and nothing makes a difference. I've also run a full scan of the drive using the manufacturers tool which reads and writes to every sector and no problems were found. Since this only occurrs in windows 7 (I've also had Linux sucessfully running on the PC without any SCSI problems) I can only assume its a driver issue, but the only driver in existence for the Adaptec 29320 card is the one that comes with Windows 7, so I don't have any alternative drivers to try, and it looks like Adaptec will not be writing their own driver either as they've stopped making the card. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Unknown USB Device When Connecting Samsung F480 Phone
My Samsung F480 mobile phone is not recognized as a working usb device when I connect it to my laptop. I'm running Windows 7, and all my other usb devices work perfectly, except this one. I have downloaded and installed the appropriate driver package and software (updated as well) over and over, but everytime to the same effect. The usb driver from Samsung does not seem to work under Windows 7, but used to work in Vista.

Hard Drive Partitions - Disk Managment
I have just installed Windows 7 on a new hard drive. If i click on My Computer i see a C drive (Windows 7) with just the one partition as i expected. But if i right click on My Computer and go to manage then go to disk managment is see that the hard drive with Windows 7 on has two partitions one called System Reserved and is 100Mb and then the C Drive with Windows 7 on.

Hard Disk Drive Loud Noise
I am experiencing the strangest behavior from Windows 7, and I cannot seem to find any post that addresses it. When I run Windows 7, my hard disk drive is significantly louder than under Windows Vista. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW290 with a 2.5ghz Core2 Duo, 320GB 7200RPM HDD, 4 gigs DDR2, 512 meg Radeon HD3650, and Sony bluray burner. Under the Vista factory install, the hard disk is almost completely silent. Only in a quiet room with your ear close to the machine can you hear any hard disk activity at all. As soon as I choose Windows 7, however, from the boot menu, my hard disk makes a loud grinding noise any time it is accessed, including during boot up. The noise is similar to what I remember my old desktop drive sounding like. I am not sure if this is related, but Windows 7 also sporadically accesses my bluray drive for no apparent reason. Every 10 minutes or so, the drive will spin up as if I have just inserted a disc (though I will not have) and then go back to sleep.

Boot Error When Changing Hard Disk
I have a problem with booting Windows7 right after I changed disks. I work with removable harddisks (2 with Windows XP and now 1 with Windows 7 RC1). Working with XP is alright. Working with Windows 7 is also OK. I can startup, shut down as many times as I like. BUT, when I put a drive with XP in and startup it's OK. THEN, put the drive with W-7 in, it won't startup. Screen stays black. When starting in safe mode, the computer stops with the file "WindowsSystem32DriversClassPNP.SYS" and hangs. Then I start with the repair disk, and that says "Boot sector code for system disk partition is corrupt" Then "Boot sector repair" and the drive is OK again. I myselve think it is because Windows 7 sees a different harddrive in the BIOS. Any idea what I can do?

Second SATA Hard Disk Drive Not Recognized
We are at RTM already for Windows 7 ads still no update on this issue. Meanwhile I found this procedure worked for me so I hope others will also find this fix helpful. Even in the latest build (7600) additional HDD's are not installed after a clean installation of Windows 7 (ie: drives other than the system drive Windows installed to). I hear of many people (like myself) going as far as using forensic tools to establish if their precious data remains intact which of course it is, as are the partition structures. This can be simply verified by connecting the drive to another system with XP or Vista installed which will then show up in my computer. The drives appear in the machine BIOS however may or may not appear in the Windows7 Disk management Utility. If it is an old drive with existing data it may appear initialized but not formatted and may ask to format the drive! If it is a new drive then you may initialize it but find it impossible to format!! The problem appears to be the disk and or volume drivers which Windows refuses to install automatically for additional SSD's and HDD's. While searching for drivers by any method provided (search online & manually) does not produce any positive results, it is possible to load the drivers if you know exactly what to look for, which is the pnp disk driver and Volume manager driver located within C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository So far of two methods I have found, method 1 has proved the most successful inwhich you use the 'Update Driver Software' option of the unknown device (your drive) found in the Device Manager. 1a. Open The Device Manager Select 'Other Devices' and then the drive Select it and 'Update Driver Software' or from "properties - Driver TAB - Update Driver" select 'Browse My Computer' then 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer' scroll to 'Disk drives' and select it and next if needed select 'Have Disk' and browse to disk.inf within the: "C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositorydisk.inf_x86_neutral_b431b61a11f8df6c" folder select it; click 'OK' select the appropriate device if presented. Your hard drive will now show up in Device Manager under 'Disk Drives' 1b. Under 'Other Devices' you may find 'Storage Manager' select it and 'Update Driver Software' or from "properties - Driver TAB - Update Driver" select 'Browse My Computer for driver software' Check 'include subfolders' and browse to: 'C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository' folder, then select 'Next' allow Windows to install the driver Your HDD or SSD will now show in 'My computer' (or 'Disk Management' if it is a new drive where the disk can now be formatted). 2. If in doubt as to which 'Other Device' is your drive, then select each unknown device in turn and select 'Update driver'. Use the 'Browse My Computer for driver software' Check 'include subfolders' and browse to: 'C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository' folder, select 'Next' and allow Windows to install drivers it finds. Still have problems, then return to step 1 3. The other method (still confirming it's success rate) is updating the device in the new 'Hardware and Printers' selection from Windows Start Menu (which I believe is new and improved in Windows7) Hope this is useful to all those having this issue and also if anyone would like to enlighten us on why this is happening, we'll all be much appreciated.

How Do I Get ISO File From Hard Disk Onto A DVD ?
I am trying to install the Windows 7 beta on my laptop (which has no Internet connection). Here's what I have done: 1) Downloaded the W7 beta to my desktop machine. 2) Used IsoBuster to create the .ISO image and *.cue files When I try to copy these to my CD/DVD drive, though, it doesn't want to work. I get an err msg that there is no CD in the drive - that's true, it's a DVD, not a CD.When I look at "DVD/CD-RW Drive (R:)" in Explorer, the files (*.iso and *.cue) are categorized as "Files Ready to Be Written to the CD". Bluescreen Error - Boot From The Hard Disk The First Time
The drive had windows xp on it from another build so i just used it to test. It booted xp fine. It only showed 3gb of ram but i think that was due to it being 1066 and needing me to change bios ram settings. So i took my full version of windows 7 professional that i have used to install on my laptop too and tried to install. I formatted the drive completely and chose to install. It goes through the paces installs. Then when it is supposed to boot from the hard disk the first time it give me a brief blue screen PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA so i research it and see it can be linked to hard disk or ram. So obviously its not the disk its been running xp fine and so has the ram. But just in case i switched out the ram with 1gb of old ddr2 800 i had from another build. Same error. I then tried my new ocz ram with a single chip thinking its a dual channel problem. Same error. So then i reburn the microsoft professional image to a new dvd r go through the process again and reformat and still the same error. I have tested all i know to test. Any other ideas?

Installed Program In XP Mode, Cannot Find On Hard Disk
I am running windows 7 ultimate. I installed XP Mode. I installed a program in XP mode, but I cannot locate where the program is stored on the hard disk. I want to back it up. I literally have looked everywhere.Where are programs installed on the hard disk when they are installed in XP mode. I tried looking at the properties of the program to see where it pointed. It only showed System32 with the gibberish, and then the program name. It does not point to where the program is stored.

Hard Disk Drive Not Recognized During XP Or Win 7 Setup
I recently purchased a WD Scorpio Black 320GB 2.5" HDD for my Gateway MX6920 notebook. I wanted to upgrade to this larger, faster HDD and replaced it into my notebook and attempted to install Windows 7. During setup it stopped and gave the error 0xc00000e9 for "unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive ......". I tried installing Windows XP and it gets to a blue screen to choose a Repair of Windows or a fresh install. Choosing either one returns a blue screen that says system can not find a Hard disk connected. I put this drive into an enclosure and formatted it in another computer. Also it is recognized in BIOS. I'm running BIOS version 77.08 if relevant.
